Planet Fitness Southeast 100th Club Opening

Sunshine Fitness is Planet Fitness’ first franchise group and it continues to experience steady growth across the Southeast amid pandemic with plans to open nearly 15 more clubs in 2021

Sunshine Fitness Growth Holdings, LLC (“Sunshine Fitness”), a leading owner and operator of Planet Fitness clubs in the Southeast United States backed by TSG Consumer Partners (“TSG”), today announced its 100th Planet Fitness club opening with new locations simultaneously opening in South Carolina and North Carolina.

“Opening our 100th club during this challenging year is not only a testament to our franchise group, but also the desire of the communities to prioritize physical and mental wellness as an essential part of their lives,” said Shane McGuiness, co-owner and CEO of Planet Fitness Southeast. “In 2021 we will continue bringing jobs to local economies, while prioritizing the health and safety of our members and employees.”

Since March, Sunshine Fitness has focused on adapting to the current pandemic while maintaining plans for expansion.  Additionally, Planet Fitness has taken several steps to strengthen existing cleanliness policies, introduced touchless check-ins and “Social Fitnessing,” created its Clean Thumb Club™ policy, and implemented a “crowd meter” available on the Planet Fitness app for customers to see capacity levels in real time. Throughout the year Planet Fitness has taken several steps to strengthen existing cleanliness policies, introduced touchless check-ins and “Social Fitnessing,” created its Clean Thumb Club™ policy, and implemented a “crowd meter” available on the Planet Fitness app for customers to see capacity levels in real time.

Sunshine Fitness has been one of the fastest growing Planet Fitness franchisees in the U.S. and has opened multiple locations since the start of 2020 with strong plans to open 13 additional clubs in communities across the Southeast in 2021. The momentum is driven by the more than 113 million check-ins to Planet Fitness since May 2020, when gyms were cleared to reopen by local officials after the pandemic forced their doors to close.

Jaime Harrison criticizes Sen. Lindsey Graham on SiriusXM

Today, Jaime Harrison, candidate for U.S. Senate from South Carolina was a guest on SiriusXM’s “The Laura Coates Show,” where he discussed his feelings regarding the recently postponed debate with Sen. Lindsey Graham.

During the interview, Harrison told host, Laura Coates: “This is probably the most historic Senate Race in the history of this state, and to have Senator Graham ducking and dodge [the debate], is really sad, but it’s a testament to who he is.”

Transcript from SiriusXM’s “The Laura Coates Show”—

“Well, you know, he’s saying scheduling, and then he even said something about September debate. This is October, you know, I can send the Senator a calendar if he doesn’t have one. I know he doesn’t have a smartphone, he still uses a flip phone, but this is October. We are two weeks away from the election and the people in South Carolina want to hear from their Senator and the candidates about this particular race. This is probably the most historic Senate race in the history of this state, and to have Senator Graham ducking and dodge [the debate], is really sad, but it’s a testament to who he is. He believes that he represents the interest in Washington, D.C. Instead of representing the interests of the people in South Carolina. And that’s why he’s on the verge of getting that one way ticket back home. We are building something because we are focusing like a laser on the people in the state. As I said, so many times on this campaign trail, we’re about to close the chapter on ‘the old south’ and write a brand new book called ‘the new south,’ one that is bold, that is inclusive and diverse. And it’s a movement that we have spawned here in South Carolina, and it’s one that I hope people continue to invest in. Volunteers, sign up, go to Jamieharrison.com if you want to be a part of this movement and to give Lindsey Graham his one way ticket home back to Seneca, South Carolina.”

Parson James Releases Single with Visual – ‘High Tide, Low Tide’

Multi-platinum selling artist Parson James has returned today with his brand new single ‘High Tide, Low Tide,’ also marking the first release since signing to his new record label 12Tone Music.

‘HIGH TIDE, LOW TIDE’

“‘High Tide, Low Tide’ actually came about during the throes of quarantine. It’s clearly been an exceptionally odd year for everyone and personally it’s forced me to look inward and face things about myself in a way that I had never done before.” Parson James confesses. “As always, a hunter for silver linings, I am thankful for what I’ve learned during this time. The opening line of the song is “my empathy is killing me” & what I mean by that is that my empathy is always getting the best of me. I’m always trying to help others before ever helping myself and more often than not this does not work in my favor.” Read Parson James’ full interview and learn more about the inspiration behind the song in V Magazine HERE.

With his cathedral-size vocal range, confessional lyricism, sharp sense of soul, and pop ambition, South Carolina-born and Los Angeles-based platinum-certified singer and songwriter Parson James transmutes trials and tribulations into inspiration.

Now, with a new label deal and single out titled “High Tide, Low Tide,” Parson James is ready to wear his heart on his sleeve yet again, as he embarks on this next chapter. His rhythmically soulful way of storytelling permeates throughout his new music, setting the stage for Parson James to return with a style that is finally his own.

“It’s a focus on me, now. I’m at this point in my life, where I’m back at a place of total belief in myself,” he says. “I’m stoked to be able to have creative control, clarity and freedom to continue telling my story.”

Parson’s personal journey could be worthy of a novel or screenplay in and of itself. As an openly gay, bi-racial son of the South, who experienced a rocky childhood marked by racism, religion-based homophobia, addiction, and domestic abuse, James has frequently found himself drawn to trying to make sense of his past and how it has shaped his identity. Born to an African American father and Caucasian teen mom in poverty, the music of Otis Redding, Bill Withers, Johnny Cash, and Elvis Presley became something of a refuge throughout his childhood.

Following a whirlwind few years starting in 2015 when Parson James catapulted to the top of the charts and gained instant global fame having penned and sang on Kygo’s major hit “Stole The Show,” he simultaneously inked a major label deal, began releasing his own critically acclaimed solo music, landing on the cover of magazine’s and touring all over the world. “Stole The Show” went on to earn RIAA multi-platinum certification in North America and multi-platinum in 15 other countries, clocking more than a billion combined global streams.

Also, a staunch and outspoken advocate, he capitalized on the opportunity to give back within the LGBTQ+ community and became a board member for the LOVELOUD Foundation, and has been a regular contributor to organizations such as GLAAD, The Trevor Project and AmFAR.

Now, Parson James is back, with more experience, a new perspective and the best music he’s written to date.

South Carolina Protects Voters During Pandemic

In a victory for voting rights, South Carolina took steps today to better protect voters in the November general election during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The action follows a federal lawsuit brought by the American Civil Liberties Union, ACLU of South Carolina, and NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund. The groups challenged a state requirement that forced people who vote absentee to have an “excuse” to do so, as well as a witness requirement for absentee ballots.

South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster signed a measure this afternoon that would allow all voters to cast absentee ballots because of the COVID-19 outbreak.

“Today’s action by Gov. McMaster is an important step forward for South Carolinians who want to vote in the general election without risking their health during COVID-19,” said Ali Titus, director of policy and communications at the ACLU of South Carolina.

The measure signed today does not waive the witness-signature requirement on absentee ballots, which makes voting from a safe social distance impossible for those who live alone.

“We will continue to litigate to remove this remaining hurdle to safe voting in South Carolina,” said Adriel Cepeda Derieux, a staff attorney with the ACLU’s Voting Rights Project.

Woody McClain to Reprise Role in “The Bobby Brown Story”

NAACP-nominated Lead Actor Woody McClain is reprising his role as Bobby Brown in BET’s The Bobby Brown Story, which follows Brown through highs and lows both personal and professional as he settles into new roles as a husband and father. The direct sequel to The New Edition Story is set to premiere in September as a two part television event.

Woody was recently nominated for Outstanding Actor at the NAACP Image Awards for his depiction of Bobby Brown in The New Edition Story, while the show took home the award for Outstanding Limited Series. The New Edition Story pulled record ratings, attracting 29 million total viewers during premiere week, making it the network’s highest-rated and most-watched telecasts since 2012.

Soon after the premiere of The Bobby Brown Story, he will be seen on the big screen in Canal Street playing “MayMay,” set to release in Fall 2018. His recent projects also include a role in USA’s series “Unsolved,” a scripted true crime series based on the murder investigations of Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls.

Woody McClain was born in Charleston, South Carolina, and raised in Jacksonville, Florida before moving to Los Angeles in 2012 to pursue a career as a professional dancer. He has since performed with numerous artists including Chris Brown and Fifth Harmony.

After excelling in his career as a professional dancer, he began creating original social media content and noticed very quickly that he had a gift for making people laugh. In fact, Woody signed with Kevin Hart’s production company, ‘HartBeat Digital’, in December 2015 to produce content after his version of Hart’s “Permission to Cuss” skit went viral and caught Hart’s attention.

Alongside his acting, he has teamed up with Kevin Hart for a streaming series in which he plays Kevin, based on Hart’s most iconic stories and stand-up bits available via Hart’s streaming video service, “Laugh Out Loud”. McClain is the creator, Executive Producer and star of Stories With Kev, with Hart serving as Executive Producer.
