I-PACE

Jaguar I-Pace: One for the History Books

By Jake Porter × Vaughn Lowery

Possibly no one expected Jaguar to start producing and manufacturing electric vehicles. However, with the rapid onset of consumers searching for an influx of electric powered automobiles, it is not surprising the illustrious British brand provided its very first, all-electric vehicle. Moreover, to the world’s surprise, the antecessor to the Tesla’s Model X, did not emerge from one of the top European mega brands such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, or Audi. Instead the Whitley, Coventry based Jaguar Land Rover, which has been manufacturing gasoline vehicles for over 80 years, has now effortlessly executed a lavish battery-only SUV.

The brand new Jaguar I-Pace is like no other. Once only rivaled by the Tesla Model X, this fully electric SUV is one of the first of its kind due to its groundbreaking features. First of all, compared to the majority of other electric vehicles on the market today, the I-Pace is powered by a 90 kilowatt hour battery that delivers an exceptional 240 mile range, which could outrun over 90% of the fully electric vehicles on the road today. The one-of-a-kind battery has a superb charge time. A typical kW DC charger can power the vehicle 0%-80% in 85 minutes.

Secondly, the I-Pace’s near silent acceleration and smooth braking are just a couple of the safety features included in the vehicle. The general handling of the vehicle and cornering ability only adds to the value of the car by creating a smooth, highly controlled turn on any surface. In addition, the stiff steering makes the car feel heavy and capable. The wider 22” tires along with all-wheel drive allows the SUV to claw windy roads with ease. The two different breaking modes included in the Default Regenerative Breaking system regenerate energy by efficiently converting available kinetic energy to electricity to charge the battery and extend the range. By selecting the “High” regenerative mode as opposed to the “Low” regenerative mode, it enables an intuitive single pedal driving in many conditions. Hood scoop, flush retractable door handles and back spoiler enhance air flow with a .29 drag coefficient. This feature tops many sports sedans and cars in their stable.

The I-PACE also includes a 3-mode system which alters the driving experience. Specifically, the modes of the vehicle including “Dynamic Mode,” “Comfort Mode” and “Eco Mode” – each of which accurately controls the vehicle in a different way. Dynamic Mode sharpens the throttle and steering responses, while firming up the suspension system for more precise handling. While the Comfort Mode can be used for less-spirited or day-to-day driving, the Eco mode reduces battery load by adjusting the climate of the battery cells with safely heating or cooling while eliminating any other non-essential systems. Each mode, changes the color of the ambient lighting inside the vehicle. These modes are yet another wonderful feature that adds to the pleasant user experience.

Furthermore, the vehicle’s exhilarating driving dynamics with its 394 horsepower and 512 lb-ft torque, produced by its twin electric motors (one at each axle), and its AWD, provide an experience that many drivers will enjoy.

The car is packed with ample road presence and turns heads wherever you go. Its bold, muscular, yet sensual lines make it aesthetically pleasing. This is a true driver’s car.

The Interior

Inside the cabin, the I-Pace comes loaded with an abundance of technology and safety features. Top notch infotainment system alongside of impressive appointments will impress most who step inside. The tempered glass and massive panoramic sunroof create an even more roomier and cozy environment for stargazing. The 825 watt Meridian sound system provides a concert-like experience. Of course, the vehicle also includes interior control panels and digital dials that are all extremely simple and easy to operate.

Comfort and Storage

Beyond it’s impressive all-electric range, its spacious and elegant cabin provide comfort for up to 5 people with ergonomic seating with ample storage in the trunk and, as an added feature, the I-Pace also sports space under the hood as well (aka a frunk). All in all, the total storage rivals that of today’s minivans. This attribute makes the I-Pace great for small families.

Conclusion

The Jaguar I-Pace is one for the history books. The vehicle is extremely difficult to find fault with. It truly has the appearance and spirit of a Jaguar. The comfort and the technology inside the car, as well as its sleek design, create a versatile vehicle perfect for an urban excursion or a local road trip. At $93,000 fully loaded, it’s a force to be reckoned with. This extremely driver intuitive elegantly designed SUV is perfect for a modern family and/or a top level executive.

Top 7 Luxury Items Every Man Should Aspire to Own

No matter where you are in life, what kind of job you have, or what your style is, there are some luxury items that you, as a man, should aspire to own. Many people think that others own luxury items simply for the sake of owning luxury items. However, luxury items serve a much bigger purpose.

When you own the right luxury items, you feel better about yourself. You feel more confident, sophisticated, and ready to take on the world. The right luxury items will make others see you as someone who knows what he wants in life and isn’t afraid to chase after it.

Plus, luxury items are luxury because of their quality and value. They’re something you can make use of again and again throughout your lifetime, without ever looking “outdated”.

So, what luxury items should you have on your wishlist? Read on to learn about 7 luxury items every man should aspire to own.

1. A Luxury Watch

While many people view the suit as the ultimate gentlemen’s luxury item, we’d argue that a luxury watch is just as important. After all, you can add a luxury watch to pretty much any outfit in order to look classier. Watches communicate to the world that you mean business, and you’re not afraid to show it. Plus, watches are a great investment because, if you take care of them, they never depreciate in value. Make sure you select your luxury watch with great care, as you want it to be something that you’ll love wearing almost everywhere you go and with almost any outfit. You should consider what color you want your watch to be, as well as what materials and sizes you like. You’ll also want to think about the functions you want your watch to have. For example, some of these Rolex watches for sale are water-resistant, and therefore also work as dive watches.

2. A Tailored Suit

A tailored suit is one of the first luxury items you should aspire to own if you don’t already, as it’s one that is extremely functional. Whether you are attending a formal party or walking into a business meeting, the suit you wear can totally change the way people view you. You can buy all the manufactured suits you want, but nothing will ever top the look of a well-fitted, tailored suit. Once you slip your suit on for the first time, you’ll know exactly what we mean.

3. Piece of Art

Even if you’re not the “artsy” type, you should still own a high-quality piece of art, be it a painting, sculpture, or photograph.

The right piece of art shows the world that you have refined tastes, that you’re worldly, and that you’re a well-rounded individual. Plus, a piece of art can be an excellent conversation starter. The piece of art you choose can say a lot about your style. And if you’re just starting to put together the look of your place, a piece of art can serve as a great foundation for styling the rest of your home.

4. First Edition of Your Favorite Book

A first edition of your favorite book is much like a piece of art, in that it shows people you’re both worldly and well-rounded. It’s especially impressive because it shows friends, family, partners, and whoever else that you have a loyalty to something, and that you have the dedication it takes to tracking that something down. While a first edition exudes plenty of luxury on its own, it looks best when it’s amongst other books, perhaps sitting on a hand-carved wooden bookshelf.

5. Something Leather

Don’t worry, we’re not suggesting that you try and pull off leather pants. (Although if you can, go for it.) But, we do think it’s important that every man aspires to own a luxurious leather item. There is a leather item out there for everyone’s taste and goals.

For example, if you want to impress people when you walk into a business meeting, go for a leather briefcase. Not only is a leather briefcase sophisticated, but it is also extremely functional, in that it will prevent you from trying to stuff your pockets every morning with your wallet, keys, etc. For those men who want something a little edgier, a leather jacket is a great idea. Trust us, you don’t have to own a motorcycle to pull off a leather jacket. While you can certainly go for the biker look by wearing a white tee and jeans, you can also pair a leather jacket with pretty much any basic tee to make your look more luxurious. A third leather item that you should aspire to own is a leather passport book. Even though it’s not an everyday item, a leather passport is perfect for when you want to take your luxurious style on the road. Plus, covering your passport in quality leather shows the world that you know how to take care of your things.

6. A Cocktail Set

If you’re looking for something luxurious that you can use to entertain guests, a cocktail set is your answer. Even if you’re not a pro yet at slingin’ cocktails, a luxury cocktail set will at least show your guests that you’re serious about entertaining. Make sure your cocktail set has all the staples: a martini shaker, strainers, muddlers, jiggers, stirring spoons, and pourers. With these items, you’ll be able to make pretty much any drink that’s requested.

7. Writing Desk

If there’s one piece of furniture that screams luxury, it’s a nice writing desk.

Sitting at your writing desk is way more luxurious than sitting on the couch with your laptop propped up on your knees. Plus, writing desks can help increase your productivity. For the ultimate luxury, buy a writing desk that is hand carved out of wood. So, there you have it, the 7 luxury items every man should aspire to own. Is there something on this list that you’re already saving up for? Let us know in the comments below.

Four Ways to Lose Belly Fat

Although it can be hard to target fat in order to burn it off your body, it is essential to your health to get rid of belly fat. This fat, also known as visceral fat, accumulates inside the body around vital organs. Fortunately, several ways to reduce belly fat exist, including those below.

Learn to De-Stress

One of the main causes of weight gain is stress. Many people eat when they are under stress, and their choice of snacks is usually salty, sugary, or processed foods. When people are under great amounts of stress, their body’s release cortisol, which in turn triggers insulin.

The insulin acts to lower your blood sugar, which can make you feel ravenously hungry, so you reach for anything that’s close at hand. It’s seldom healthy food that people binge on, so they end up gaining fat.

By learning to de-stress with yoga or meditation, you can stop the triggers that get you to eat unhealthy foods and gain fat around your middle.

Skip Sugary Drinks

Research has found that sugary drinks, like sodas, sweet tea or added sugar to coffee, can lead to having more visceral fat on your body. Visceral fat accumulates in the organs like the liver or heart, which can block it and result in heart attacks or strokes.

Instead of drinking sugary drinks, try replacing sodas with water and drink tea and coffee without sugar. Another cause of hunger can be dehydration, so if you’re craving food, drink a glass of water to hydrate your body to keep it healthy.

Add Supplements to Your Diet

Fat burning supplements and protein powders with fat burning ingredients like collagen can help reduce the fat gathering around your middle. Also, doing exercises targeting visceral fat will also reduce the fat in your abdominal area.

Losing this fat can prevent several serious diseases and help you live longer. Studies show that people with normal weight but with fat around their middles have shorter life spans than some people who are overweight. It’s not a bad idea to get more information about fat burning supplements.

Get a Good Night’s Rest

Studies show that younger people who sleep less than five hours a night can have much higher levels of cortisol and ghrelin. Ghrelin is a hormone that can make you feel hungry, which along with cortisol, makes it easier to gain weight, especially around the middle.

Getting more good quality sleep, about eight hours or more, can stop triggering these two hormones. It can also keep your metabolism running at a good pace. Poor sleep habits can lead to the body slowing the metabolism to conserve energy, which also causes weight gains.

Visceral or belly fat is bad for your health because it can lead to heart disease, diabetes, and fatty liver disease. Even if you are young and in good shape, having just a small amount of visceral fat around your abdomen can shorten your life.

However, if you follow these four tips and eat a healthy diet and exercise, then you can lose the fat around your middle and live longer.

Busch Light is Here For You Iowa

Iowa has been named the unofficial capital of Busch Light!

The state loves it so much that last year when one of their teams went on the road to Memphis for a Bowl Game, the Iowan fans drank the city COMPLETELY DRY of Busch Light.

In order to ensure this never happens again, Busch Guy has taken matters into his own hands ahead of the 2018 #ValeroAlamoBowl in San Antonio where Iowa will face-off Washington State.

Busch Guy has pulled out all of the stops to ensure the city is prepared for the onslaught of Busch Light lovers that will be in San Antonio for game day. Not only is Busch Guy making sure that more bars than ever are stocked with Iowans number one beer, but he’ll be reporting live from Texas over the next two days, monitoring beer supplies around the city and responding to fans via @Busch Twitter with the hashtag #BuschSafeHouse.

Land Rover Defender Debut In 2019

Land Rover North America today announced something to celebrate in the New Year, the next-generation Land Rover Defender will be offered for sale in both the U.S. and Canada, starting in 2020.

Testing of the new vehicle is already underway around the world with the first development mules and prototypes reaching North American shores earlier this month. Testing on the continent provides valuable data to engineers given the wide variety of terrain and surfaces available in America. Engineers will subject the vehicle to rigorous test extremes to make sure the new Defender is the most off-road capable Land Rover vehicle ever; operating in temperatures from -40F to +120F while driving the test vehicles on- and off-road at altitudes of more than 13,000 feet above sea level.

“There are a handful of automobiles that are beloved around the world and stand for a brand, a country and a distinct way of life. The Land Rover Defender is such a singular vehicle,” said Kim McCullough, Vice President of Marketing for Jaguar Land Rover North America. “On behalf of Land Rover and our retailers, we are proud to announce the voices of American and Canadian customers has been heard: The all new Defender will be for sale here starting in 2020. This announcement is a holiday gift to our Defender fans in North America and a hint of what’s to come in the New Year.”

Series Land Rover vehicles have garnered a cult-like following for both their iconic design and reputation for rugged go-anywhere utility, making them among the world’s most capable off-road vehicles. In the time since they were sold in the U.S. and Canada, “NAS-Spec” Defender vehicles have appreciated in value significantly and are widely sought after as collectors’ items for both off-road enthusiasts and those who appreciate the design aesthetic of the vehicle.

The Series Land Rover vehicles haven’t changed much since the idea for the first model was dreamed up shortly after World War II by the Wilks brothers on the shores of Red Wharf Bay, Wales, more than 70 years ago. With each successive design – from the Series 1, 2, and 3 Land Rover vehicles, to the later “Defender” branded vehicles – changes were largely evolutionary, rather than revolutionary.

Even the design of the previous generation Defender remained largely unchanged for the 33 years it was produced. Instantly recognizable by its rugged squared-off exterior, round headlights and signature rear-mounted spare tire, the Defender and all Series Land Rover vehicles have been lauded the world over; driven by farmers, military and police, celebrities, and even royalty. By one measure, it’s estimated that a Series Land Rover was the first automobile many of the world’s population ever saw in person.

With an all-new exterior and interior design, as well as a suite of the latest driver assistance and connectivity features available, the next-generation Defender will be a revolutionary product for Land Rover with even broader public appeal. When it debuts in 2019, the new model will represent 70 years of innovation and improvement in just one model year; honoring the model’s history for rugged durability, while thoroughly remaining a Defender for the 21st century.

All will be revealed in 2019.

Record Turnover For LIQUI MOLY With Lower Growth

During its first year as part of the Würth Group LIQUI MOLY has chalked up a new record turnover. But the growth has been more subdued than previously. The German oil and additive specialist recorded a turnover of € 544 million, just two percent more than the previous year. “International trade disputes, the hot summer and increasing costs, especially the dramatically increased crude oil prices, have all contributed to the significant slowing down of our earnings growth,” says Ernst Prost, LIQUI MOLY CEO.

Whilst previous years have been noted for their high growth rates, 2018 was an exception with much more moderate growth. October was the most successful month in the company’s more than 60 year history, with a turnover of almost € 54 million and growth of 34 percent. A range of factors prevented there being a similarly high rate of growth across the whole year. Latent global trade disputes had an impact on LIQUI MOLY. Business with China, for example, decreased by a third. And trade with Russia, a significant export market for the company, has also decreased rapidly over the last two years due to the substantial devaluation of the ruble. “Such changes cannot help but have an impact,” says Export Manager Salvatore Coniglio. “These setbacks in China and Russia would have had a much greater impact if we were not active in 150 countries. We can offset the reduction in turnover in some countries by opening up new markets in others.”

One of the greatest rays of hope in terms of export was the development of the subsidiary LIQUI MOLY USA, which handles business in the USA and Canada. It posted an increase of 39 percent in comparison with the previous year. This strong growth was no coincidence. LIQUI MOLY invested heavily in personnel, in order to offer its customers a comprehensive service.

The dents in export performance did nothing to cushion the fragile growth in the highly competitive German market. “In present circumstances, a two percent growth in Germany and Austria is a huge success,” says CEO Günter Hiermaier, “after all, the number of competitors has increased but the pie to be shared is still the same size. And so the competition is correspondingly fierce. We continue to rely on a combination of marketing packages and sales power.”

At the same time as turnover growth has reduced, the company’s costs have dramatically increased. On top of investment in additional inventory control strategies, new software and an additional tank storage facility of around eleven million euro, increasing raw material prices added additional costs of around six million euro. The weather also had an impact.  The prolonged period of high temperatures over the summer restricted the use of the Rhine and made it unnavigable at times which, in turn, increased the transport costs for raw materials and finished goods. “Overall, our freight and logistics costs increased by some € 1.2 million. All in all, a cold shower. Of course, a double hit like this, higher costs and lower than planned turnover, has brought our performance to its knees. But that is how it goes in life, and in business, you have to adapt to new circumstances or you’re out of the running. And no two years are the same,” says Ernst Prost.

Spending on marketing and on research and development have also increased, but this was planned. In 2017 LIQUI MOLY invested € 19.8 million in brand awareness, and almost a million more in 2018. The biggest coup of all is undoubtedly the endorsement contract with the Chicago Bulls. The basketball team is one of the most well-known global sports brands. They boast 175 million fans. “No other professional team in the USA can top this,” says Marketing Director Peter Baumann, explaining the significance of international activities to the German company.

Nationally and internationally, the quality associated with “Made in Germany”, still has enormous pulling power for LIQUI MOLY. And this consistently high quality requires research and development, spending in this area has risen to almost € 6 million. “Modern lubricants are highly complex solutions. If you want to stay at the top of the game, you need the latest technology for development and quality testing,” explains David Kaiser who is responsible for this area and for application technology.

Another figure that has led to increased costs is the number of LIQUI MOLY employees. 24 jobs were created in 2018. A total of 848 people are now employed in Ulm, Saarlouis and the international subsidiaries. “We are more than happy to be spending this money, it is always a pleasure to be creating jobs. We are also happy to pay the additional one million euro for the new wage agreement from the Industrial Mining, Chemistry and Energy Union, as it benefits people in the LIQUI MOLY family,” says Ernst Prost.

Since the CEO sold his shares to the Würth Group at the turn of the year, many have been fearing radical change at the oil and additive specialist. “The opposite is the case,” says Ernst Prost. “My business cards now just say CEO instead of Managing Partner and our long-standing Sales Director Günter Hiermaier has risen to be our second CEO, but otherwise it is business as usual.”

Trailblazing Women in Travel History

It’s not just men who love adventure and trailblazing into the unknown. Yet for some reason it’s men who’ve gained the notoriety of being explorers and adventurers, with the history books filled with pages of their exploits. But women aren’t the wallflowers they’ve been represented as through the years. Women, in both past and the present, have traveled from one end of the globe to the other using horses, cars, ships, planes, and trains. Today women are celebrating women…and all their accomplishments. And why wouldn’t being pioneers of travel be on the list of these achievements?

Most of these female explorers are forgotten when we look at those who have travelled into new territories and gone on amazing adventures around the world. Yet women have been travelling for thousands of years, with evidence going back as far as the 4th century. The earliest mention of a woman traveling is from 381 A.D. when the Abbess of Egeria travelled on foot up Mount Sinai. Her pilgrimage diary outlines her thoughts and experiences from those many years ago.

In the 19th century, wealthy Victorian women began to travel for many reasons, both personal and political. Still others travelled to locations around the world where they felt they could make a difference, engaging in the missionary work that men didn’t have time for. Many women travelled so they could research other cultures, writing books about their adventures. And not only did women travel to see the world, many are known for their efforts to advance feminism, leading the way for other women to follow in their footsteps.

From 1871 to 1885 Marianne North, a British naturalist and painter, travelled to six different continents where she painted flowers and plants. She voyaged by ship to South America, Asia, and Africa…travelling on her own when she couldn’t find a “satisfactory companion” to pursue her passion of painting the different flora around the world. Her paintings and letters to friends about her travel experiences are a great narrative of what travel was like for a solo female traveller.

Another well known explorer in the early 1900s was Gertrude Bell, who travelled all around Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. As a writer and an archaeologist, her books give women today a clear picture of what it was like to travel to foreign countries.

“All the earth is seamed with roads, and all the sea is furrowed with the tracks of ships, and over all the roads and all the waters a continuous stream of people passes up and down – travelling, as they say, for their pleasure. What is it, I wonder, that they go out to see?” – Gertrude Bell.

It’s easy to see that women throughout history have travelled for the same reason we do today – for adventure and to satisfy our curiosity to see the world. Spread across the years, we’re highlighting seven of the most influential and trailblazing women in travel. With their unique backgrounds, and their drive and determination, they’re a true inspiration for women around the globe.
