Erich Strenger × Porsche

No one has shaped the image of Porsche quite as much as Erich Strenger. Introducing a new book, “Erich Strenger: A Graphical Report” from publishers Delius Klasing that is the first ever comprehensive collection of Erich Strenger’s work with Porsche between 1951 and 1988.

Strenger left his mark on Porsche with a design language that continues to bear his signature to this day.
This book showcases a first-ever comprehensive collection of Strenger’s work, created over the course of his collaboration with Porsche between 1951 and 1988. Strenger was instrumental in influencing and molding the image of the Porsche brand as we know it today
Erich Strenger (1922-1993), an author, photographer, designer, and illustrator, left his mark on the look of Porsche during the company’s formative years in the early ’50s and ’60s with a design language that, for the most part, continues to bear his signature to this day. He also created countless print products for this successful sports car maker, including Christophorus Zeitschrift für die Freunde des Hauses Porsche, the brainchild of Erich Strenger and Richard von Frankenberg. Over the course of a collaborative relationship with Porsche spanning more than thirty years, the graphic artist, who started out working alone, founded an advertising agency in the heart of Stuttgart with a staff of up to eleven permanent employees. There, Strenger would later create countless racing posters, much like those he had designed in his early days working for Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG as a freelancer in the early ’50s.
Strenger was instrumental in influencing and molding the image of the Porsche brand as we know it today. This book showcases a first-ever comprehensive collection of his work, created over the course of his collaboration with Porsche between 1951 and 1988. This monographic and monothematic publication brings the noteworthy highlights of his work to the forefront, focusing attention on the designer’s approaches and methods.

The Perfect Halloween Video… “Glizzy”

Newcomer Spiffy Wilds Creeps Onto The Scene With New Visual For “Glizzy”

YouTube: http://youtu.be/4hJbuCARG1E

Between its dark haunting melody, and the low raspy voice of rap newcomer, Spiffy Wilds… this track is pure hip-hop.

The visual for “Glizzy”–which dropped today, just in time for Halloween–is just as gritty; featuring dimly lit rooms, tight spaces and women with heavily painted faces. It’s an experience that will assure you that Spiffy Wilds is here to make a statement. Produced by Ouu Taylor Made, the video was shot and directed by MEENO.

L’ÉTAPE DU TOUR

Sports Tours International Invites Amateur Cyclists to L’Étape du Tour 2018

Sports Tours International, the UK-based provider of vacations built around nail-biting, world-class cycling and running competitions, is taking reservations now for amateur cyclists who want to participate in L’Étape du Tour 2018, an opportunity to tackle a mountain stage of the 2018 Tour de France.

L’Étape du Tour 2018 is scheduled for Sunday, July 8, 2018, in Annecy, France. The finish is at Le Grand-Bornand, a resort in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. This finish was used in the 2009 Tour de France on Stage 17 when Alberto Contador famously went against team orders and left Lance Armstrong on both the Col du Romme and the Col de la Colombière.

Riders experience highs and lows while traversing a distance of 169km and climbing to heights of up to 4,000km, just like the pros when the 2018 Tour de France begins on July 7 and runs through July 29. For example, the Col de la Colombière will be the final climb for Stage 10 (Annecy to Le Grand Bornand, 159km) on July 17.

Riders and their guests will enjoy a festival of cycling over the weekend in Annecy. Lake Annecy is a focal point of Annecy, an alpine town known for canals and cobbled streets. Annecy is well known for the heritage of its buildings and natural landscape. It is situated beside one of the purest lakes in Europe, at the foot of the Alpine massifs of the Aravis and the Bauges, but close to Switzerland and Italy.

Sports Tours International’s L’Étape du Tour 2018 four-day/three-night tour package includes guaranteed entry when booked through Sports Tours International. With direct-to-the-public entries nearly sold out, Sports Tours will become one of only a handful of operators who can guarantee entry to the event. Also included in the package are accommodations at a range of hotels, roundtrip airport transfers from Geneva, overland bike transfer, bike rental and storage, complimentary coach accommodations for traveling companions to witness the excitement, three breakfasts, and, depending on the hotel, three dinners, staff support along the race course and more. Per person, double occupancy rates begin at £519 and go up to £699 for four-star accommodations. Self-drive packages are also available. While guaranteed, an additional cost is the actual entry fee to L’Étape du Tour 2018.

For non-riders, a free coach from Annecy to the finish in Le Grand Bornand is offered with return to Annecy later in the day.

How to Spend One Billion Dollars

A new survey from NJOnline reveals the quirkiest ways that Americans would spend ONE BILLION dollars if they were to win the jackpot; it’s safe to say some people had some crazy ideas!

Some examples:

  • Disappear, go into hiding, or buy “at least 5 wooded acres with off-grid underground living in Washington or Oregon”…
  • Drink “all of the piña coladas”. All of them.
  • Buy the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Team
Any idea is a good idea! You may choose to spend your fortune on something practical or you may just want to blow it all on something wacky; it’s up to you!
Dream Big
While many respondents had similar ideas for what they’d do with the money for themselves – buying land, buying new cars, going on holidays – there were a few with some clear goals in mind.
  • 14% Would Buy an Island

25-34 year olds expressed the highest degree of interest in buying an island instead, with 17.4% making that their answer, compared to an overall overage of 14%. It was least popular among 18-24 year olds, of whom only 6.5% considered an ocean-encircled territory something they’d want.

  • 28% Would Buy a Mansion
In terms of indulgences, mansions were the most popular, with 28% of respondents saying it would be their preferred way to spend a big of excess money. This was true across all age groups, both genders, and all locations.
Other Weird and Wonderful Ideas
Americans were nothing if not creative with their responses to the survey, and here are some of NJOnline’s top picks:
  • Invest in a trip around the world
  • Buy an island, a yacht and a self-driving car
  • Create a cat playground worthy of visitation
  • Purchase a pink diamond
  • Hire a bodyguard
  • “Sit on my porch with a cold one and watch the sunset”

The ideas ranged from big scale to small, and there was a huge range of visions for these prospective billionaires.

What would you do if you became a billionaire. You can find more results from the survey here.

The Roots: Tiny Desk Concert

Grammy award winning and multi-platinum hip hop icons The Roots star in the latest installment of NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Concert Series. Check it out HERE.

The band performed their hit “It Ain’t Fair” from the critically acclaimed motion picture “DETROIT”. “‘It Ain’t Fair’ was designed to emphasize the importance of social justice through the prism of late-sixties Detroit, which means many things culturally and politically, and also certain things musically. Music has the power to express both anguish and hope,” explains The Roots drummer and producer Questlove.

From Kathryn Bigelow, two-time Academy Award®- winning director of THE HURT LOCKER and ZERO DARK THIRTY, and Annapurna Pictures, DETROIT captures one of the most terrifying events during the riots that took place over five tumultuous summer days in 1967. The DETROIT Original Motion Picture Soundtrack captures light amidst one of America’s darkest times by illuminating the power at the heart of the Motown, Detroit, and late sixties cultures all at once. It’s the sound of change in the face of oppression and a moment of revolution brought to life in song and on screen.

Innovative Outdoor Shelters for Homeless Cats

Architects for Animals “Giving Shelter” event continues to raise awareness for nonprofit FixNation

One of this year’s most innovative design events, Architects for Animals® “Giving Shelter” exhibit, returned to the HermanMiller Showroom in Culver City on Thursday, October 19. The sold-out event benefits the LA-based non-profit FixNation, which provides free spay/neuter services for homeless cats (stray, abandoned and feral felines).

LA’s top architects and designers were invited to design, build and donate functional and one-of-a-kind outdoor dwellings for cats. The shelters were displayed at a cocktail reception attended by the public, VIPs and media representatives. Also on display were 28 cat food bowls decorated by feline-loving celebrities–including Jay Leno, Charlize Theron, Beau Bridges, Elvira, William Shatner, Clint Eastwood, Tricia Helfer and Morgan Fairchild–all of which are available for purchase via an online auction until 9 pm PST on Oct. 31.

“This year’s cat shelters were extraordinarily creative, and the designers put a great deal of time and thought into how cats would actually interact with the shelters,” says FixNation’s Co-Founder and Executive Director Karn Myers. “They are truly works of art with a practical application, and all the shelters are showcased in our online auction as well.”

Los Angeles is home to one of the nation’s largest populations of homeless felines, an estimated one to three million cats. FixNation is a model for successful Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) and humane colony management programs across the country and around the world. Myers and her late husband, Mark Dodge, founded the organization 10 years ago to provide a more effective and compassionate alternative to mass euthanasia.

Participating design firms this year included Abramson Teiger Architects; d3architecture; ES-EN-EM; CallisonRTKL; HKS; HOK; Perkins + Will; Knowhow Shop; Kollin Altomare Architects; RNL now Stantec; Standard Architecture | Design; and a collaborative project from Formation Association, Terremoto Landscape and Arktura.
