AUTUMN ART COLOURS × PARK HOTEL TOKYO

Autumn ART Colours Exhibition Scheduled at Park Hotel Tokyo to Offer Hospitality Guests a Season of Japanese Aesthetics

Park Hotel Tokyo announced on June 28 that it will hold an art exhibition titled “Daisuke Kagawa Art Exhibition – A Visitor from Afar in Autumn -” from September 2 to December 1, 2019.Park Hotel Tokyo welcomes our hospitality guests with the form of “arrangement”, one of Japan’s aesthetic values, expressed through the medium of art. A series of art exhibitions are held representing the four seasons of Japan. In this 30th exhibition as part of this initiative, “ART colours”, works of Daisuke Kagawa will be exhibited to express “autumn,” symbolising a condensation of the views of nature held by ancient people in Japan.

Twice a year, once each in spring and autumn, there is a period when the sun rises from true east and sets in true west. These seasons have long been familiar in Japan as the equinoctial weeks. During this time in autumn, people give thanks for the blessings of nature while venerating ancestors. It is a time for worshiping the sun, with prayers for the coming year’s harvest. The “Visitor from Afar” in the title is a term that refers to natural phenomena or things (i.e., the gods) that exceed human knowledge, coming from an eternal and faraway world. It is said that this became folk tradition, and that the people of Japan have welcomed visitors with reverence, cultivating methods of warm hospitality.

Daisuke Kagawa is an artist who draws on his own sensibilities and knowledge to create works that express the workings of “Visitor from Afar”. He drew attention with the production of an Artist Room called “Jomon” in the Park Hotel Tokyo’s Artist in Hotel project in 2017. The exhibition this autumn will deepen this Kagawa-style “Jomon” world. Here, “Visitors from Afar” await guests at the Park Hotel Tokyo.

During the exhibition period, guests can enjoy an original cocktail and dessert that complement artworks at the ART Lounge. In the evening, powerful images with a motif of exhibited artworks will be projected on the 30-meter-high wall.

Park Hotel Tokyo General Manager Takayuki Suzuki said:

“Autumn is also a time when we pray for a plentiful harvest after the scorching hot summer. I look forward to being able to meet with the blessings of Japan and feeling of gratitude that arrive with the golden light of autumn here in Tokyo.”

Park Hotel Tokyo Art Project Director Yoshitomo Fujikawa said:

“The work is modern, but it has an atmosphere that serves as a vivid reminder of ancient Japan. This exhibition likens the hotel to autumn through the work of artist Daisuke Kagawa, which enables one to catch a glimpse of Japanese identity.”

Enjoy a tranquil and rich autumn, with its balanced days of equal daytime and night, together with works of art that summon a deep-seated awareness of nature, at Park Hotel Tokyo.

Toby Holguin lives music and gives music life. It was Toby’s vision to create Monsieur Job, a band that will rock you make you move your feet. The band, whose name is derived from “Job” of the bible; a righteous man who is tested by God, enduring many tragedies and hardships while struggling to remain faithful – will make you cry with passion. Formed by Holguin from Cali, Colombia, a beautiful place high in the mountains above the clouds. Toby then asked Charlie Illera from Barranquilla, Colombia, and Leo Jaramillo from Bogota, Colombia to become one musically as Monsieur Job. All of them live and breathe their own style of music combined they are Monsieur Job. Toby, Leo and Charlie spin records as DJs constantly for different pools and venues around the world. Moreover, Toby had the idea to start doing Urban Music besides Chill Out and Electronic Music, which is the vision that created the album “Bass Passi”. They started dropping broken beats with a more festive, shaky, groovy Caribbean Latin flavor turning it into an international exclusive mash up of world talents and a unique blend of genres.

For their debut release, Chow Chow Eyyy Pow Pow, the record has hit the Euro Indie Music Chart at #1 for 9 consecutive weeks as well as progressive singles; “Kick it” Remix feat. Charly Black, “Pica Pica”, Niña Shake Your Body” feat. No Mercy & Vojke Djans and “Chilliando Hangueando” feat. Cholo reaching the #1 position as well, the Digital Radio Tracker Top 10, and Top 200 for Best Albums, #2 for the Billboard Latin Rhythm Albums Chart, and the Billboard Top 10 Heatseekers Albums Chart for their album “Bass Passi”. This album was recorded in Bogota and Miami at Basswalk Studios, Outta Limits Studios in Miami, and Barba Studios in Belgrade and mastered at Sterling Studios, New York.

LA-BASED DUO MOBY RICH RELEASE OUR FIRST SECOND EP

Los Angeles-based alternative pop duo Moby Rich—made up of Maxwell Joseph and Connor Pledger—have released a new body of work Our First Second EP, featuring their brand new single “Oil Spill”.

Check out Our First Second EP HERE!

On “Oil Spill,” the duo said: “When we wrote ‘Oil Spill,’ we were thinking about how we all grow up with such a warped vision of what the world is actually like, and when we finally make it into the ‘real world’ we are far too often greeted with a swift punch to the mouth reminding us that life is hard. This song is a reminder to look past the bullshit and make a mind for yourself. Don’t drink the oil.”

Our First Second EP follows their recent release “Sabotage,” as well as their 2018 breakout track “Yoko Ono,” which has over 1.5 million Spotify streams to date and received praise from Annie Mac at BBC Radio 1, triple j, Noisey, The Line Of Best Fit and more. After joining BROODS on the Australian leg of their tour last month, the duo recently performed their first-ever headlining New York and Los Angeles shows.

LA two-piece Moby Rich turn melancholy song craft into bold, pop hooks and visuals. The pair—Maxwell Joseph and Connor Pledger—relocated to LA in 2015 from Indianapolis and Atlanta respectively in search of, well, anything. In a moment of synergy, Connor began attending open mic nights around the town in which Maxwell was living. The pair serendipitously met, began writing together, and realized an identifiable sound between the two them. Writing the majority of their tracks on acoustic guitar, they sing every song in unison, a sort of whole-is-greater-than-the-sum-of-parts attitude, which speaks volumes of their close, almost twin-like, friendship.

The first insight into Moby Rich’s unique sound comes in the shape of their 2018 breakout hit, “Yoko Ono,” a melancholy pop banger that combines the euphoria of early MGMT with the laidback beat making of N.E.R.D, which was featured on their debut, Our First EP. Their new single, “Sabotage,” is a hands-aloft ode to fucking up royally; a cathartic anthem for a generation faced with obstacles. “Sabotage” sets the stage for Moby Rich’s second project Our First Second EP out now.

BENEE “FIRE ON MARZZ” EP

Hailing from the suburbs of Auckland, 19-year-old indie pop artist BENEE has made her mark on the world with her debut FIRE ON MARZZ EP out today—listen HERE!

On FIRE ON MARZZ, BENEE noted, “When it came to coming up with a name for my EP, what first came to mind was wanting a phrase that was a big old explosion, because that’s kinda what the EP feels like to me. I came up with the name FIRE ON MARZZ and thought it did the best job at not really relating to any song in the EP. I didn’t think there was a phrase that could sum them all up.”

Coming off the heels of her Gold-Certified hit “Soaked,” “Evil Spider,” and recent single “Want Me Back,” the EP also including three new songs: “Glitter,” “Wishful Thinking,” and “Afterlife.” The EP artwork was created by Ricardo Cavolo and continues the BENEE tradition of artistic collaborations to illustrate her music. BENEE says, “I considered what the EP was going to look like visually when I named it. I wanted to find an artist that could really pour all the colours that I feel from each song into a piece of art. Ricardo Cavolo is this crazzzy coool Spanish artist whose flames instantly stood out to me. We had a phone conversation where I said that I wanted Mars to be on fire in it, but I also wanted him to go wild on a bunch of weird doodles that might come to mind when listening to the songs on my EP and he nailedddd itttt.”

BENEE recently performed her first ever New York and Los Angeles shows with sold out crowds and rave reviews. Look out for more tour dates soon!

BENEE has emerged as New Zealand’s artist to watch with her chart-topping hit “Soaked,” which quickly climbed Spotify’s Viral Charts, accumulated nearly 20 million streams to date, charted on Australia’s Triple J radio’s Hottest 100 of 2018 and held the number one spot on New Zealand’s Shazam Top 100 for two months, not to mention achieved Platinum Certification in New Zealand and Gold Certification in Australia. With endorsements from Zane Lowe and Apple’s Beats1 radio, BENEE went from playing her first small club gig to her first arena show—opening for longtime role model Lily Allen—in a matter of months. Not to mention, her song “Evil Spider” has already hit over 2 million streams and counting!

HipHop artist AK Releases New Single

HipHop artist AK gets emotional on self-produced “Ignorance Is Bliss”

On “Ignorance Is Bliss,” AK gets real and reveals the all-too-relatable truth behind the feelings of the rise to success – claiming it to be ‘a gift and a curse.’ The single sonically mimics the peaks and valleys of this emotional journey. While his quick-witted verses reiterate the raw emotional battle of figuring out who can and cannot be trusted on the rise to the top; AK’s aching chorus evokes the intense desire to remain ignorant to the deterrents discovered along the way in the people and places in life that once felt safe and secure.

With lyrics ‘blessings around me / still feel like I’m sinking,’ AK takes a deep dive into the reality of the rarely touched on emotional side effects that come along with a fast track to success – a track that AK can definitely relate to as he has become quite the chart topper in a mere couple of years since first releasing music.

AK’s series of original singles have garnered the #1 spot on the U.S. iTunes Hip Hop Chart, the U.S. Top 20 iTunes Hip Hop Chart, graced the Top 25 iTunes Charts in four other countries, and landed on YouTube Music’s ‘Flow Superior’ Playlist. With his recent releases “Why Would I?,” “Déjà Vu” and “Like I Got It,” AK has hit a sweet spot of blending Hip Hop and R&B genres that pack the perfect punch of his versatility as an artist in terms of tone, lyrics and vocal range.

While his single “Broken” strikes an emotionally raw chord, with an accompanying music video to match. The single perfectly portrays AK’s masterful vocal ability, carried by a chorus of his raw and emotive vocals. While the dark and dreary music video for “Broken” mirrors the tormented tongue-twister verses and pained falsetto-laced vocals evoked by the feeling of a purely broken heart and the one who broke it. With each music release bigger than the last, it goes to show that AK is the next big thing in Hip Hop.

“Valee is a quiet rapper making a lot of noise.” ——RollingStone

“Valee’s innovative style makes it impossible to predict what might come next.”  ——-Pitchfork

“Valee doesn’t sound like anything happening in Chicago hip-hop right now.” ——-Noisey

ABOUT VALEE:

In an era when aspiring public figures broadcast constantly in an effort to maximize their brand value, Valee’s coolly laconic stands apart. With short songs and a soft-spoken style, his unpredictable raps sketch subjects with a droll eye for detail over a bass-heavy canvas. This is trap music for the connoisseur, for fans of clever lyrics and effortless style. Valee grew up on Chicago’s South Side. When he received toys as a child, he would break them apart to figure out how they worked, a method he applies to his own process with music today:  “Sometimes I rap and cut and copy and paste and move parts around and it changes the whole song, for the better.” His music career began when, intent on buying a gaming system, he stopped at Guitar Center instead. “I just wanted to make beats better than what I hear on my mixtapes or on the radio, and I wanted to rap on it. I wasn’t thinking about anyone else at all.” His counterintuitive approach across five mixtapes and his G.O.O.D. Music debut EP, GOOD job, You Found Me, has captured the ears of artists and music aficionados alike, drawn to his unorthodox approach.

WLabs Smart Oven w/ Katie Lee

By Krishan Narsinghani × Vaughn Lowery

As of late, 360 MAGAZINE paid a visit to the newly imagined Kim Sing Theatre (once the 1926 Vaudeville), which houses an event space, gallery, courtyard as well as hotel.

At this venue, we joined Food Network star, Katie Lee, for the WLabs’ smart oven first look and tasting. Try cooking with an appliance that manages it all for you. Literally, the smart oven can tell what’s inside and let you know when it’s done using a new camera and sensor detector technologies. Witnessing Katie Lee fit a whole chicken inside this 13.5” H x 19.5” W x 21” with a magnetic thermometer (conveniently sticks on the side of the unit) was a shock, more so, that she was alerted by the app on her phone it was ready. Not to mention, the counter space you’ll save in a small galley kitchen within an urbane habitat. De-hydrate limes for handcrafted cocktails, roast asparagus or reheat/bake a 12″ pizza. The personal assistant makes your life in kitchen that much easier. So, take a long shower or a soothing bath with no worries.

In short, the innovative WLabs Smart Oven is ideal for a budding executive who resides in a metropolis and is always in transit swinging from city to urban center while on various assignments. Or, for empty nesters who like to entertain intimate yet memorable parties where this appliance will surely be the center attention.

Merely 2,000 of these bad boys are available for pre-order here.

TJ Porter Releases Debut Album

From Harlem, for Harlem, TJ Porter has established his undisputed street cred with a streak of uncompromising singles and videos – highlighted by “Glowin’ Up,” “Tricky,” “Harder Than Ever,” “Do You Care?,” and of course his hometown celebration “Harlem” – all setting the stage for the release today of VOICE OF THE TRENCHES, his debut album via Def Jam Recordings.

With the release of VOICE OF THE TRENCHES, TJ drops the gritty new video for “Harlem,” which COMPLEX hails as “one of the best songs of the year, so far.”

“Porter’s bravado bleeds New York,” wrote Billboard passionately this week of the former high school basketball star, whose closest friends include future NBA draft prospects Cole Anthony and Julian Newman. There but for fortune, TJ’s career might have been on the court with them, instead of in the recording studio and onstage. As TJ showed during the recent NBA All-Star Weekend, however, at the Coca-Cola stage performance and then at a special 3-on-3 matchup game, the two driving forces of his life will probably always co-exist.

“I’m not a basketball player who makes music, I’m an artist who plays basketball, sometimes,” he told the Billboard reporter. “I make music. I want people to take me seriously as an artist. I’m cool with all the rappers and stuff like Meek [Mill] and all, but I need them to take me serious with the music. I want that longevity. I ain’t trying to go to the NBA.”

Evie Irie “5 Weeks In LA” EP

Sixteen-year-old Sydney-born singer/songwriter Evie Irie unveils her debut EP, 5 Weeks In LA, today.

Listen HERE via Republic Records.

The five-song collection threads together a tale of personal emotions and evocative stories over an unpredictable sonic backdrop. She introduces the project with the undeniable opener “Bitter.” Off-kilter production punctuated by handclaps, glitchy electronics, and strains of guitar gives way to a hypnotic hook as she encourages, “Try not to get bitter.”

Watch the video for “Bitter” HERE

Of the track, she comments, “I’m singing to myself, because in the song I’m the reason why I’m being bitter, because I’m judging myself and I’m thinking everyone is judging me—when really I’m my own enemy. The song is me escaping that mindset.”

Hailing from just outside Sydney, Australia, Evie Irie is quietly emerging as something of an alternative soul-pop wunderkind at just 16-years-old. Grabbing a guitar, she penned fully realized pop anthems rooted in the experiences of her sisters and their friends. With her family supporting, she moved to Nashville and attracted the attention of top songwriters and tastemakers at open mics and performances. As the title reflects, she wrote and recorded 5 Weeks In LA over a 5 week trip to Los Angeles that also landed her a record deal with Republic Records.
