Private collection of King Charles III’s interior decorator these pictures are remnant of them.

Dreweatts is delighted to declare open, from tomorrow, the long-awaited public viewing of the private collection of King Charles III’s interior decorator and the man known the world over as a ‘titan of design’, a polymath, and the ‘great assembler’ of beautiful things, Robert Kime (1946-2022). The three-day auction will take place next week on October 4th, 5th & 6th, 2023 and is a celebration of the most respected and loved decorator of his generation. The sale will offer the opportunity to obtain works from Robert’s very own personal collection, which he meticulously amassed over his lifetime, through his travels around the country houses of the UK, to Europe, the Middle East and beyond.

Robert’s fascination with objects grew from his childhood; he was collecting and selling antiques even as an undergraduate. His passion and broad knowledge encompassed Middle Eastern art, including textiles and antiquities, European antiquities, modern art, ceramics, gardening, architecture and interesting objects from around the world.

This intellectual engagement created wonderfully varied, fascinating and comfortable interiors filled with the exotic and every day. King Charles III said of his unique aesthetic sensibility: ‘’You often hear of people who are said to have ‘a good eye’, but Robert Kime’s must surely be one of the best’’

This ‘eye’ and academic rigour drew the Royal Family and collectors from around the world to ask for his help in designing their homes and building their collections. Despite this he was unpretentious and believed in creating comfortable, homely interiors, whether a small cottage, palace, flat or country estate. It was this keen eye that enabled him to alter a room, not just by adding decoration in the form of textiles and harmonious pieces, but in his own words he was an ‘assembler’, who could create a ‘lived in’ look, to even a newly refurbished room, as if it had always been that way. He cleverly combined a sense of history with a fresh approach in designing their homes and building their collections.

The collection, which has been laid out in recreated rooms from Robert’s homes in London and Provence, are on display at Dreweatts stunning Berkshire salerooms ‘Donnington Priory’ in Newbury. The rooms housing his collection give us a close-up view of Robert’s passions and show the man through his objects. His collection includes furniture, rugs and textiles, books, art works and ceramics to one-off stand-out pieces that had a personal meaning to Robert.

Hella Dope Toys

Our Head of Global Business Development and avid toy enthusiast, Rodney Ramlochan, continues his ongoing series on the action figure community, highlighting key manufacturers, retailers, and YouTube podcasters. In a recent interview, Ramlochan sat down with Ted Yeakel and Aaron Yancey, the co-founders of the e-retailer Hella Dope Toys, to delve into the expansion of their online store and their associated podcast.

Childhood Friends Redefining Toy Collecting

In a world where nostalgia blends seamlessly with the thrill of the hunt, childhood friends Ted Yeakel and Aaron Yancey, from Columbus, Ohio, embark on a journey to rewrite the rules of toy collecting. They are the dynamic duo behind Hella Dope Toys, a unique enterprise in the ever-expanding world of collectibles. As we sit down for an exclusive conversation with them, it’s evident that their story transcends toys – it’s a tale of enduring friendship, entrepreneurship, and unwavering passion.

Aaron and Ted’s middle school encounter sparked a lifelong friendship that endured through shared experiences. Over nearly three decades, their bond strengthened, and they became each other’s confidants, even standing as best men at each other’s weddings. Their journey eventually led to their mutual passion for toys, but first, let’s explore their Ohio roots.

Aaron and Ted grew up in a northwest Columbus, Ohio, neighborhood that had seen better days. Despite the challenges posed by a shifting landscape and increasing crime, they were fortunate to have spent their formative years in a relatively safe environment. Their enduring friendship was rooted in shared interests, starting with a love for cheese pizza and professional wrestling. Aaron recalls a pivotal moment, saying, “I visited his house, and he was enjoying his usual cheese pizza. Surprisingly, WCW Nitro was on, and I exclaimed, ‘Oh my God, I love wrestling too.’ That’s when our friendship solidified.”

Their enthusiasm for toys also played a significant role, especially because access to toy stores was limited. Aaron explains, “Toy stores were a rarity for us, mainly limited to Christmas and birthdays. So, we spent our time outdoors, channeling our youthful energy into creating adventures with neighborhood kids.” While their love for toys would re-emerge in their adult lives, let’s save that part of the story for later.

Clearancing and the Birth of Hella Dope Toys

Hella Dope Toys had a surprising origin, rooted in what Ted calls “clearancing.” It began with selling discounted items from big-box stores to finance a coveted big-ticket item: the Hasbro Marvel Legends Sentinel figure. Ted’s resourcefulness came into play as he sought affordable toys due to limited spending capacity. He realized he could buy cheap and sell for a profit. However, what truly transformed their venture was the heartfelt gratitude from customers. Ted remembers, “People were thanking me, which struck me as odd. Mothers would say, ‘This figure was hard to find, and my kid wanted it for Christmas.’ People were genuinely appreciative.” Aaron chimes in, “We came to realize we weren’t just flipping toys; we were providing a service that brought happiness to people’s lives.” This newfound sense of purpose fueled their passion.

The duo lives by three core principles from the inception of their business. First, they seek to address issues within the toy-collecting community. This problem-solving mindset drives them to offer unique products, often at competitive prices, meticulously packaged and swiftly delivered. Second, they prioritize customer value. It’s not just about selling toys; it’s about providing a holistic experience beyond the transaction. Exceptional customer service makes purchasing enjoyable and satisfying. Lastly, they embrace continuous improvement, recognizing that excellence is an ever-moving target. They relentlessly refine their operations to surpass customer expectations.

Power-Con and a Turning Point

Power-Con, the annual celebration of all things He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, became a pivotal event in the Hella Dope Toys story. What started as a fan’s trip quickly became an opportunity to network with prominent toy companies. Aaron recalls their experience at Power-Con 2022, saying, “Our original intent was just to go as fans. We didn’t have any toys to sell.” But his fearless approach to networking changed the game. “We walked up to some tables and introduced ourselves, explaining what we were trying to do.”

Their interactions with influential toy companies like NECA and Spero Studios opened doors and initiated conversations that would change their trajectory. Aaron emphasizes, “It took a lot of talking to make people understand that we were serious about this, not just setting up an eBay store.” Ted adds, “We planted our flag at Power-Con and walked away with a stack of business cards. It was the turning point. Suddenly, we had conversations with people we idolized and those who were creating remarkable figures.”

Challenges on the Road to Success

As with any entrepreneurial journey, Hella Dope Toys encountered its share of challenges. Aaron admits that their biggest challenge was the financial aspect. “We started with nothing and relied on our own money to fund everything. Our business model didn’t include a buffer, a safety net.” Additionally, the timing of their acquisitions posed challenges. Smaller retailers often received sought-after items after larger chains like Target and Walmart. Aaron explains, “By the time we get these items, they’ve often gone on clearance at bigger stores. It’s a race to stay ahead.” Another challenge they faced was building brand awareness and trust. Aaron and Ted took the initiative to send gifts to YouTubers and toy enthusiasts to introduce their store to a wider audience. The pivotal moment came when the 3POA Podcast, a popular YouTube channel, featured their products and promoted Hella Dope Toys. This endorsement significantly boosted their credibility and visibility.

Building Trust and Transparency

Aaron and Ted emphasized the vital role of trust-building with their customers, particularly as a small company in a competitive market. Transparency stands as their cornerstone strategy. They’ve humanized their brand through platforms like YouTube and social media, sharing their journey, experiences, and occasional missteps. This candid approach has eased potential customers’ comfort in interacting with Hella Dope Toys, instilling confidence in their brand.

Aaron and Ted initially didn’t see themselves as “YouTubers” when discussing their channel. Their early episodes followed structured scripts, but they soon discovered that the most captivating shows embraced spontaneous, unscripted conversations. In their initial episodes, they sought guest speakers to boost visibility, much like they did for their toy store’s promotion. However, as they delved deeper into podcasting, they recognized the need for a more organic approach. Ted explained, drawing parallels to wrestling events that require a draw to fill seats, “We needed to borrow some clout.” Initially, having guests ensured content, but it became evident that the formula grew stale.

The Hella Dope Toys Podcast underwent an evolution, shifting towards organic, unscripted discussions with guests. They aimed to engage with individuals beyond their toy-related endeavors, making their YouTube channel more enjoyable and strengthening their connection with viewers. Key to their podcast’s success is the interaction with the audience. They emphasize acknowledging and engaging with viewers and listeners by actively participating in chats, mentioning names, and recognizing contributions, fostering a sense of community that keeps people returning. Ted highlighted their desire for the audience to feel appreciated, setting them apart and nurturing a loyal, engaged community.

Looking to the Future

Aaron shared his forward-looking perspective, admitting to living day by day while outlining short-term goals. Their primary focus remains on continuous business expansion, learning from each year’s experiences to enhance their offerings. Approaching the crucial fourth quarter, especially during the Black Friday shopping rush, they’re gearing up for increased demand. Additionally, they’re determined to engage with their audience directly by participating in more conventions and toy shows, having found Power-Con to be a significant event. They’ve expressed interest in exploring other conventions in the future.

Hella Dope Toys’ long-term vision goes beyond their podcast. Aaron envisions creating a unified toy enthusiast community, uniting various sub-communities under the Hella Dope umbrella. Their goal is to establish an inclusive space where toy lovers of all interests within the toy world can coexist and collaborate. Aaron believes that their shared passion for toys unites people, both as kids and adults. He hopes to merge different toy-related communities and offer a platform for everyone to share their enthusiasm.

Aaron and Ted are aware that juggling their full-time jobs, family responsibilities, and their passion for toys and podcasting can be challenging. However, their unwavering passion, love for the toy-collecting community, and willingness to adapt drive them to continue. Aaron emphasized that when you genuinely love what you do, it doesn’t feel like work, and that’s what keeps them going. As they look ahead to the future, they understand that success requires providing value, embracing failure as a learning opportunity, and keeping an open mind. They’re excited about what lies ahead and remain committed to their goal of building a thriving and inclusive community of toy collectors. Whether you’re a toy collector or simply curious about their journey, it’s clear that Hella Dope Toys is a company to watch in the coming years.

Environmental Sustainability

The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao hosts an international symposium on environmental sustainability strategies

  • On October 3, the Museum will bring together leaders from museums and foundations from all over the world to share the most innovative environmental sustainability strategies
  • Organized by World Art Foundations (WAF) in conjunction with the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, the symposium will examine environmental sustainability initiatives and good practices from prominent international museums
  • The symposium will conclude with a lecture by the artist Olafur Eliasson

On October 3, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao will bring together the leaders of international museums and foundations with the goal of presenting their environmental sustainability strategies, share good practices, and provide the participants with answers and solutions ready to implement so they can embark upon their own road to sustainability.

The symposium is being organized by World Art Foundations (WAF) in conjunction with the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao within the context of the urgency prompted by the climate crisis. It will conclude with a lecture by the internationally renowned artist Olafur Eliasson on how art can inspire climate action.

Suhanya Raffel, director of the M+ museum of Hong Kong; Whitney McGuire, Associate Director of Sustainability at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum of New York; Rosa Ferré, co-director of the TBA21 Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary Foundation; Juan Ignacio Vidarte, Director Genera of the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao; and Daniel Vega, Deputy Director of Exhibitions and Conservation at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao are just some of the leaders participating in this event.

The symposium will take a practical approach, with a number of sessions that will examine issues like the creation of “green teams” in institutions, the need to create realistic environmental sustainability action plans, measuring the carbon footprint, financing opportunities, strategies to improve buildings’ energy efficiency, recommendations on climate control, proposals to offer visitors a more environmentally-friendly experience, managing exhibitions in line with environmental goals, and more sustainable solutions for packaging and transporting works of art.

In addition, professionals from the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao will explain in depth the environmental sustainability initiatives that have been implemented at the museum.

The symposium will conclude with a lecture by Olafur Eliasson entitled “How art can inspire climate action.” In 2020, the Museum hosted the exhibition Olafur Eliasson: In Real Life, in which the artist questioned the way we perceive our environment and reflected on timely issues like the climate emergency. Convinced that art can exert a considerable influence on the world outside museums, for years Eliasson has been involved in different artistic actions that aim to raise awareness of climate change.

World Art Foundations

World Art Foundations (WAF) is an organization founded in 2014 with the goal of creating synergies between museums and art foundations so they can share ideas, work together to solve problems, and have opportunities to make contacts within the international art community.

Environmental sustainability is one of the main commitments of the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao’s 2021–2025 Strategic Plan, with the goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2030. This international symposium is framed within the Museum’s focus on sustainable development, which entails including a space for reflection on the environment and ecological awareness in its public programs and exhibition and educational programming.

Toronto’s rising rapper JUGGER today announced his anticipated debut album PUPPET MASTER is coming to Red Bull Records/Wonderchild on October 27. Pulling back the curtain on the project, he revealed the official album trailer featuring the new track, “Ventriloquist.” The video sees JUGGER confined in a spacecraft lab where he’s being observed and tested like an extraterrestrial specimen. Grammy-nominated producer and Wonderchild label boss WondaGurl makes a special appearance as a scientist administering a mysterious liquid-filled syringe. Visually reminiscent of Michael & Janet Jackson’s “Scream” music video meets ‘The Fifth Element,’ JUGGER’s signature brand of futuristic horror primes the album for its Halloween-weekend release.

On the origins of the new single, JUGGER shares, ‘Ventriloquist’ is a personal look inside what my journey has been like throughout this project. The opening line, ‘PUPPET MASTER, cut the strings,’ depicts the separation from the powers that be. The harmonious intro drifts in like a calm before the storm, anticipating the rebel boy’s return. This is the beginning of a new era, we are in control now!

Having co-produced the track, WondaGurl adds, “As we unveil ‘Ventriloquist,’ a sneak peek into JUGGER’s upcoming album, I couldn’t be more proud. This song is just the beginning of the captivating musical journey we’re about to embark on.

Spanning 13 tracks from the underbelly of JUGGER’s deviant universe, PUPPET MASTER feels like a cinematic experience made for the screen. From front to back, it’s a testament to his artistic evolution as he weaves a cohesive story across radical rap and haunting instrumentals. Earning praise from ComplexThe FADERWonderland Magazine, and CBC Music, JUGGER has brought the record title to life, captivating the masses like puppets on strings. Stay tuned for the official release and more surprises to come next month.

Combatting Nausea: Natural Remedies and Methods to Try

Most people experience nausea at some point. Sometimes, there is a direct cause for nausea such as sea sickness, illness, or food poisoning. Women frequently experience nausea during menstruation or pregnancy.

In some cases, people can experience severe or chronic nausea. This can interfere with their everyday lives. When this happens, it becomes hard to work and concentrate.

There is medication for nausea, but this should be a last resort. Prescription medication can have side effects and usually doesn’t treat the root cause. Here are some natural ways you can treat nausea.

  1. Peppermint

There’s a reason they hand out mints after meals.

It’s because mint helps your body digest food. If you are unable to digest food properly, your stomach will be upset.

After eating this usually results in feeling bloated and full. But it could make you nauseous, especially if you ate something bad.

A cup of peppermint tea is a great way to settle your stomach after a heavy meal. Even if you haven’t had a lot to eat, peppermint can settle your stomach. If you don’t want tea, just eat some mints.

Mints usually don’t have any calories. Another option is to chew sugar-free mint gum. This will help ease stomach pain as well.

Other ingredients that settle the stomach are lavender, chamomile, ginger, and fennel. Find these herbs at your local tea shop or look for a tea that contains all of these ingredients.

Hot tea is the best option, but iced helps as well.

  1. Cannabis

Stress is a common cause of nausea.

Stress can refer to mental as well as physical stress. Mental health issues such as depression and anxiety can also cause nausea.

Cannabis can help settle your stomach as well as treat the root cause. While nausea itself usually isn’t a condition that qualifies you for a medical marijuana card, there are related issues that do.

Here is an article with information on qualifying conditions for a medical marijuana card in Ohio. Other states have different conditions. Thankfully, the legislation in most states is loosening when it comes to medical marijuana.

When purchasing marijuana, it’s always important to buy from a licensed dispensary. It’s the only way you can control the quality of the product.

Buying from somewhere else could only make your nausea worse, and that’s the last thing that you want to have happen.

Certain cannabis strains are better for treating nausea than others.

  1. Sleep

Sleep directly impacts your gut health.

Disrupted sleep patterns will affect your appetite. It will also affect your mealtimes. Eating a lot at night is not good for your stomach.

Most people need at least eight hours of sleep a night. A solid nine hours is actually ideal. Don’t think of yourself as lazy for sleeping so long.

If you sleep well, you will be more efficient and productive. Your stomach will thank you for the rest as well.

When you start feeling nauseous, lie down for a bit. It could be your body’s way of telling you that it’s time for a nap.

  1. Yoga

Your stomach needs to be stretched out like any other muscle.

Yoga will help your stomach relax. Here is a list of yoga poses that will help ease your nausea.

Regular yoga practice will strengthen your stomach. Once you’re already feeling nauseous, you probably won’t feel like doing yoga.

When this happens, choose easier poses. Some yoga can even be done lying down. And if it’s too painful, just focus on taking deep breaths.

Practicing yoga before you go to bed will help you sleep better, too.

  1. Water

Dehydration is a common cause of nausea.

Many people suffer dehydration without ever knowing it. They usually think that their symptoms are caused by something else.

But the culprit is usually water. You should be drinking at least two liters of water every day. If you exercise or live in extreme heat, you need more.

Water is not the only way to hydrate your body. Without a healthy diet, there is no way your body can absorb water.

Eating fruits and vegetables will help increase your liquid intake.

Nausea is a pain, no matter what the cause. But with these natural remedies, hopefully, the pain will go away.
