THE MANDALORIAN SEASON 2, VOLUME 2 (CHAPTERS 13-16) AVAILABLE ON DECEMBER 18

Walt Disney Records releases the digital soundtrack from Season 2 of “The Mandalorian,” Lucasfilm’s multiple Emmy®-winning live-action series, streaming exclusively on Disney+. The Mandalorian Season 2, Volume 1 (Chapters 9-12) digital album features score by Oscar®, Grammy® and Emmy® winning composer Ludwig Göransson (Tenet, Black Panther) and is available HERE. The release will be followed by The Mandalorian Season 2, Volume 2 (Chapters 13-16) digital album available on December 18.

Earlier this year, Göransson won his first Emmy for “The Mandalorian” “Chapter 8: Redemption” in the Outstanding Music Composition For A Series (Original Dramatic Score) category.  For the first season of “The Mandalorian,” Göransson released eight full-length albums, one album per episode, with recurring themes throughout the season. This season, he will release the soundtrack in two volumes containing new musical themes, sounds and ideas.

The score and character themes feature instruments played by Göransson including the bass recorder, woodwinds, drums, guitars, piano and percussion. The organic elements from those instruments are then infused with tech sounds and a cinematic orchestra.

About Ludwig Göransson

In a career spanning only 12 years, Ludwig Göransson has amassed an impressive resume in both the recording and motion picture industries, earning an Academy Award, an Emmy Award, multiple Grammy Awards and countless other nominations. After working as an assistant to composer Theodore Shapiro, Göransson got his first big break writing music for the NBC television series, Community. This led to a friendship and collaboration with Donald Glover, who performs under the stage name Childish Gambino, on several studio albums including Because the Internet and Awaken, My Love. Göransson has been nominated for six Grammys with Childish Gambino, and won two in 2019 for the Billboard Hot 100 Number One hit song “This Is America,” which became a cultural phenomenon and garnered world-wide acclaim.

While pursuing his masters degree in film scoring at USC, Göransson met his other longtime collaborator, director Ryan Coogler, when he scored his short film, Locks. Over the next nine years, Göransson would score all three of Coogler’s feature films. Much like iconic filmmaking duos Hitchcock and Herrmann or Spielberg and Williams, Coogler’s diverse filmography has allowed Göransson to show his range as a composer, writing understated melodies for Fruitvale Station, hyping up audiences for Creed, and infusing African percussion into his themes for Black Panther.

Göransson has accumulated success in a variety of other films including the box office smash Venom andPixar’s Inner Workings. In 2019, Göransson earned multiple awards and nominations for his score for Black Panther including a Golden Globe nomination, a Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack, and an Academy Award for Best Original Score. He won two Grammy Awards for his song “This is America”, which he co-wrote and co-produced with frequent collaborator Childish Gambino.

Most recently, Göransson completed the score for Season 2 of The Mandalorian, LucasFilm’s first Star Wars live-action series helmed by director Jon Favreau, streaming exclusively on Disney+.  In September 2020, he won his first Emmy Award for his work on the series. Göransson also composed the music for Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, which premiered late summer 2020. In addition, he co-wrote and co-produced the songs for DreamWorks’ Trolls World Tour with Justin Timberlake, which exceeded expectations with its history-making digital release in April 2020, racking up nearly $100 million in sales in just three weeks.

About Bongo ByTheWay

Uforo “Bongo” Ebong, better known as Bongo ByTheWay, is a Grammy-winning platinum record producer originally from Nigeria and raised in both Florida and Rhode Island (currently residing in Los Angeles, CA). Bongo became known for his unparalleled talent with production; he also plays bass, piano and a multitude of other percussion instruments. As a child who grew up in the church, Bongo took to music as an outlet early on and received teaching from his musically inclined older brother beginning at age eight. By the time he was eleven Bongo began creating his own beats and got his first major placement on a Musiq Soulchild track when he was only 18. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of North Florida, Bongo relocated to the entertainment epicenter of Los Angeles to focus on his music full-time. But despite his early expression of talent and validation from big names in the industry, Bongo ByTheWay never stopped striving to get better and better and merge his instrumentalist background with the wave of new technology available. As the rising super-producer has explained, I grew up appreciating organic sounds. I played in the church, I grew up listening to Erykah Badu and The Roots, people that really have that feel of the instrumentation. But at the same time, I do appreciate the nuances of technology because they allow you to express yourself in a new way and have different soundscapes that are cutting edge.”

As his career was taking off majorly beginning in 2013, Bongo became widely known for his production on Big Sean’s number one album Dark Sky Paradise and Documentary 2 by The Game. Bongo’s unique high-caliber production turned heads throughout the industry and has since led him to producing tracks for Roddy Ricch, Nipsey Hussle, Jeremih, Eric Bellinger, Kanye West, Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Ty Dolla $ign, Snoop Dogg and Future among many others. He’s a 4-time Grammy nominated producer for songs with YBN Cordae and BJ the Chicago Kid and his landmark Grammy Award winning production on “Free From It All” by Hip Hop – Gospel crossover star Lecrae and his extensive discography has cemented him as one of THE most sought-after producers for popular urban music. In the summer of 2020, even amidst a global pandemic, Bongo ByTheWay secured two Billboard number ones for his chart-topping production on Teyana Taylor’s The Album and Pop Smoke’s Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon. A high-achieving person by nature, there’s no doubt that BongoByTheWay won’t stop his grind, no matter how many accolades he earns. As this super-producer says himself, If you’re not truly passionate about it, you’re not going to go the extra mile.”

AUSTIN CITY LIMITS – THE MAVERICKS

By Cassandra Yany

Austin City Limits will spotlight renowned rock and country trailblazers The Mavericks on Nov. 21 at 8 p.m. CT/ 9 p.m. ET on PBS. The installment is part of the series’ 46th season and will showcase the band’s chart-topping, all Spanish-language album En Español.

The GRAMMY, CMA and ACM award-winning band reaches a career milestone with this being their first Spanish-language album, which debuted at no. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Pop Albums Chart. The genre-bending group return to their Miami roots to blend their eclecticism with a collection of Spanish language originals and traditional Latin songs that inspired them.

The four core Mavericks members— lead singer and songwriter Raul Malo, guitarist Eddie Perez, keyboardist Jerry Dale McFadden and drummer Paul Deakin— are elevated by horns, accordion and backing vocals for a powerful nine-musician combo. The band celebrates the diversity of cultures with their unique take on classic tracks from the vast Latin American catalog, starting off with the Cuban country track “La Sitiera,” which escalates to an exciting full-band bloom complete with horns and accordion.

Malo— who is a first-generation Cuban American— introduces his late grandfather’s favorite song, “Me Olvidé de Vivir” by Julio Iglesias, which the Mavericks made their own in a country rendition. He also salutes one of his own favorite artists with the mariachi-flavored spin they take on Juan Gabriel’s “No Vale La Pena.”

The group delivers thrilling performances of new originals, including “Recuerdos,” which is backed by horns, and “Suspiro Azul,” which is amplified by standout harmonies. In tribute to performing at the house that Willie Nelson built, Malo gives a solo acoustic take on Nelson’s “Blue Eyes Crying In the Rain.” The band also performed Latin-influenced tracks form their 2013 reunion album In Time, including the lush “Come Unto Me,” featuring dueling guitar and accordion solos, and the energetic, rockabilly-flavored “As Long As There’s Loving Tonight.”

“Showcasing The Mavericks first all-Spanish album on Austin City Limits during the same week as the Latin Grammy Awards is perfect timing,” said ACL executive producer Terry Lickona. “Since I became co-producer of the Latin GRAMMYs, I’ve made it my mission to bring the joy and beauty of Latin music to the ACL stage every year. This show is a great ‘primer’ for that!”

The Mavericks’ episode was recorded in September and will be the second no-audience taping of the program due to the coronavirus pandemic. This marks the group’s third appearance on the show, being their first in two decades.

During these tough times, ACL continues to provide viewers with a front row seat to live performances. The series airs weekly across the nation and full episodes are made available online for a limited time immediately following the broadcast. The second half of the Season 46 will be announced soon, with six new episodes to begin airing in January. Katy Perry × Coca-Cola

Katy Perry × Coca-Cola

Today, Coca-Cola and Katy Perry announced the launch of a new music project, seeing the two very different pop icons joining forces to refresh the world.

Katy and Coca-Cola have come together to re-imagine “Resilient,” a song from the global superstar’s new album, Smile. Partnering with critically acclaimed DJ/producer Tiësto and introducing the vocal stylings of rising star Aitana, the remix is an uplifting, inclusive anthem for our times. The track launched last Friday, 13th November, with a first play on BBC Radio 1 ‘Best New Pop’. Listen to “Resilient” feat. Aitana (Tiësto Remix) HERE. The accompanying visual  “Resilient” feat. Aitana (Tiësto Remix) – Open To Better Film  premiered today. It was directed by Chloe Wallace and reflects the positivity and optimism of the Coca-Cola ‘Open’ platform. View HERE.

Katy Perry explained: “To me, this campaign is about growing through challenges. I think the song ‘Resilient’ ties so well into that because being resilient is getting back up after you fall, growing from failure, and getting through that challenge. I loved the unity perspective Aitana brought to the song, and how it evolves the message into the importance of being resilient as a group. It’s not always just about personal growth, we need to grow together too!”

Walter Susini, Europe Head of Marketing, explained: “For more than 136 years, Coca-Cola has used its voice to help unite people across the world. In response to the current crisis, we launched the ‘Open’ platform, a campaign highlighting how the world has changed and to appreciate what perhaps was previously taken for granted. As we move towards the end of 2020, we are collaborating with Katy Perry to spread a message of hope and positivity, especially for the next generation. Lock-down has meant that young people have missed out on life-defining moments – from proms and graduations to just being with their friends face-to-face. This song is dedicated to them.”

Tiësto noted: “Whether through my music or my live performances, creating feel good and uplifting moments is my passion! I am thrilled to have the opportunity to join forces with Katy Perry and Aitana for this project with Coca-Cola. Our mission is to inspire much needed optimism and happiness in our world, particularly during this time!”

Aitana explained: “Getting to work with Katy Perry on one of her singles feels like I am dreaming! With the incredible Tiësto involved as well, and Coca Cola’s important vision for this partnership, I hope this new version of ‘Resilient’ provides a moment of upliftment and happiness for people that are facing any challenge, big or small.”

Since last year, “Like It’s Christmas” has already racked up over 130 million global streams in addition to praise from Rolling Stone, Billboard, and Vulture who claimed, “With all this comeback success, every day feels ‘like it’s Christmas’ for the brothers.”  The band recently performed “Like It’s Christmas” for the first time on NETFLIX’s Dash & Lily, which was executive produced by Nick Jonas.

Following a six-year hiatus, Jonas Brothers took the world by storm in 2019 with the surprise release of their critically acclaimed and widely successful single “Sucker.” The triple-platinum single debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100, becoming the first #1 for the band and the first #1 debut from a group this century.  The band went on to release Chasing Happiness, an Amazon Original film documenting the brothers rise and return to music, before going on to deliver their third #1 album debut with the release of their platinum-selling album Happiness Begins (Republic Records). The band continued to soar with their sold-out “Happiness Begins Tour,” with over 1.2 million tickets sold.

What’s more, the album garnered the band a bevy of awards including three awards for “Top Duo/Group,” “Top Radio Songs Artist,” and “Top Radio Song” for “Sucker” at the 2020 Billboard Music Awards, a 2019 MTV VMA for “Best Pop Video,” “Best Duo/Group” at the 2020 iHeart Music Awards, two Teen Choice Awards including their prestigious “Decade Award,” as well numerous American Music Award nominations, a coveted Grammy nomination and more.

Continuing the journey that began with last year’s Amazon Original documentary Chasing Happiness, Happiness Continues captures the band’s live concert experience and provides an exclusive look into the Jonas Brothers’ lives on the road. Happiness Continues is available to stream now exclusively on Amazon Prime Video, in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide.

Elton John – I Can’t Go On Living Without You

I Can’t Go On Living Without You has been unveiled to celebrate the release of Elton John’s Jewel Box, released today via UMe. Multiple GRAMMY winner Mark ‘Spike’ Stent (Shawn Mendes, Selena Gomez, Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber) has given the unreleased 1968 mix – one of the many gems of Jewel Box – a 2020 polish in time to celebrate one of the most eagerly awaited releases of the year. Watch Here.

The 1968 original captures the sound of a long-lost swinging London and typified the writing-to-order pop that Elton John and Bernie Taupin had been contracted to Dick James Music to deliver for other artists to cover.

Written and recorded at DJM studios in Central London in Spring 1968, “I Can’t Go On Living Without You” was selected for consideration for the UK’s Eurovision Song Contest entry the following year. Six songs were chosen for the public vote for Lulu to take the winner forward to the competition’s final in Madrid that March. To get to the final six for songwriters of that day was prestigious enough. Another aspiring team – Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber – submitted a song entitled “Try It And See,” which, according to Rice, didn’t even make the final 50. A year or so later, new lyrics were provided, and it became “Herod’s Song” in Jesus Christ Superstar.

“I Can’t Go On Living Without You” was sung by Lulu on her BBC1 primetime show Happening For Lulu on Saturday, February 1, 1969. “Back then, Eurovision wasn’t quite the orgy of embarrassment it is now, but still, it wasn’t like Pink Floyd, and Soft Machine were queuing up to get involved,” Elton wrote in his acclaimed, best selling memoir Me. In fact, he revealed, although credited to Bernie, he had written the lyrics by himself. On the following Monday, the composing team Bill Martin and Phil Coulter (who had written the previous year’s Eurovision entry,  Congratulations) reviewed I Can’t Go On Living Without You, the fourth of the six contenders, in the Daily Express. Martin wrote, “I strained my ears to hear a non-existent melody coupled with a pathetic lyric.” Coulter added, “a very unimaginative title for what is just a dull and uninteresting song.” Elton wrote in his diary on Monday, February 3: “Went into the office. General reaction to Lulu – not very good.”

When the final result came through a fortnight later, the song had come sixth in the audience poll. Out of six. It had received 5087 votes. Ironically, it was beaten into last place by a song called Are You Ready For Love? (but not the one Elton was to take to No. 1 in 2003). The song that Lulu did take forward, “Boom Bang-A-Bang,” garnered 56476 votes.

Although Lulu was to be the joint winner of Eurovision that year, “I Can’t Go On Living Without You” did attract some cover versions; Cilla Black recorded it on her 1970 album, Sweet Inspiration; Pickettywitch singer Polly Brown released it on the flip side of “So In Love” in 1973, and Sandie Shaw’s version belatedly came out in 2004.

Now it’s time to hear the Elton original for the first time. ‘I Can’t Go On Living Without You’ is three fabulous minutes of the zingy easy listening pop of the day, with a catchy chorus and a memorable hook.

The track is accompanied by a new lyric video from Ladybug Studios where, like the track itself, the song’s swingin’ 60s vintage will be given a fresh and contemporary twist. It features images of Elton and Bernie from the period.

Elton: Jewel Box is available now as deluxe 8CD and 9LP box sets, standalone 4LP, 3LP, and 2LP breakouts. On streaming services, we’re celebrating its wealth of rarities, deep cuts, and B-sides via a series of regular three-song batches, culminating with the complete ‘Jewel Box’ appearing, in full, in March for Elton’s 75th birthday.
