In 2020, Vy Truong and Han Dang, co-founded the emerging Houston-based architectural design firm, Very Handsome Studio [VHS]. Together, the duo, like Megan and Beyoncé in Savage, has a decade of industry experience, specializing in the areas of housing, education, hospitality and commerce.

Truong was born in Houston and attended Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture and Design, majoring in interior architecture. Truong’s mother was a real estate agent and often remembers visiting open houses, “Not so great homes.” Upon witnessing numerous lackluster spaces, Truong became interested in transforming them, “After you see so many, the first thing you kinda wanna do is [ask yourself the question] … how do I improve this space?” It was then that she started her journey as an interior designer. Thus, once she finished her academic career, she quickly concluded that staying in her hometown would be financially advantageous. After all, this is Act I of their renaissance.

Dang, a Vietnamese native, also studied at Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture and Design and holds a degree in Interior Architecture. In the course of adolescence, her insatiable desire for placement and texture was evident. She has a memory of collecting design magazines and cutting pages. While in college, she studied abroad in Central Europe. This tour was an eye-opener for interior inspiration.

When Covid-19 struck, completely locking down Houston’s city center, it adversely affected multiple businesses within a variety of sectors. On the upside, the economic downturn allowed Dang and Truong to solidify their atelier at a much lower price point. Nevertheless, the design dyad remained positive and became more sensitive to the growth and development of their enterprise, “You win some, you lose some.” To date, their agency has witnessed an increase in new accounts, resulting in more than twenty divestitures since its inception.

Very Handsome Studio enthusiastically works in tandem with a plethora of establishments as well as a myriad of restaurants flourishing in the vicinity of their headquarters. Still in its infancy, Truong and Dang of VHS are far beyond achieving what they never imagined.

About Very Handsome Studio:

VHS projects include a conceptual Smash Burger with a bodega theme, children’s academy, speakeasy slash sushi bar alongside an Italian seafood restaurant. At last, Truong and Dang are ecstatic to share their eclectic conceptions with the world, “We are knocking on wood until the doors open.” And soon, they will be at the podium receiving a Cooper Hewitt, the Smithsonian Design Museum’s National Design Award.

Vaughn Lowery had the opportunity to ride aboard one of Tailwind’s seaplanes. After arriving at the New York Skyports Seaplane Base, the seaport had a waiting room area for guests. Once inside the lounge, snacks and refreshments were available for passengers awaiting to board.

Guests were greeted with a gate/seaport agent upon embarquement to the aircraft. Once everyone boarded the plane, it took a short 15 seconds to rise into the air from the sea. Leaving Manhattan and setting out towards Bridgeport, CT, the stunning viewpoint of the entire city was a highlight of the trip.

After landing and docking, Vaughn was able to enjoy shopping and culinary greatness in Bridgeport.

1/ST EXPERIENCE, curators of world-class entertainment and hometown hospitality for Preakness 147, announces a collaboration with Baltimore’s own Kevin Liles, CEO and Chairman of 300 Entertainment and Elektra Music Group, to launch Preakness LIVE Culinary, Art & Music Festival as part of an expanded Preakness entertainment and cultural celebration set to take place on Black-Eyed Susan Day, Friday, May 20. The festival is just one part of 1/ST’s new long-term campaign, Baltimore 1/ST, kicking off this year.

Taking place in the iconic Pimlico Infield, Preakness LIVE will feature performances by GRAMMY Award winners Ms. Lauryn Hill and Megan Thee Stallion, NAACP Image Award winner D-Nice and Baltimore-bred talent including rising singer Brittney Spencer, Darin Atwater and The Soulful Symphony, plus a performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner” by WanMor and more. Local talent will also perform on the Charm City Stage throughout the evening. Preakness LIVE is produced in collaboration with Karlitz & Company.

Chefs Colicchio, Samuelsson and Simmons will collaborate to develop unique offerings for guests in the Finish Line Suites, Turfside Terrace and the Home Stretch Pavilions. Preakness LIVE will also debut Restaurant Row, made up of a diverse group of local eateries featuring regional culinary delights serving fans on both Black-Eyed Susan Day and Preakness Day.

Baltimore’s vibrant art scene will be given a showcase in the Pimlico infield during Preakness weekend with unique installations throughout the art garden, curated by acclaimed Baltimore multidisciplinary artist and founder of “The Last Resort Artist Retreat” Derrick Adams. The art garden will display works from a multitude of local artists as well as entrants of the Preakness 147 Art of Racing campaign, among other exciting activations. 

To further connect the Preakness weekend celebrations to Park Heights, Park Heights Renaissance will sponsor and lead the first annual George “Spider” Anderson Preakness Music and Arts Festival in recognition of the first African American jockey to win the Preakness Stakes in 1889. The day-long festival on May 21st will feature live music, arts & crafts, the days’ races live-streamed, top food trucks and will highlight community businesses and partners.

During the third running of the George E. Mitchell Black-Eyed Susan Stakes, the recipient of the George E. Mitchell Park Heights Community Fellowship Grant, awarded by Park Heights Renaissance, will be recognized with a special presentation from the Winner’s Circle. The iconic race was renamed in 2020 to highlight the extraordinary legacy of Mitchell himself and to create a platform for the recognition of those in the Park Heights community who share in Mitchell’s vision and leadership towards revitalization of the Park Heights community.

Drai’s Beachclub • Nightclub at The Cromwell has revealed a star-studded April lineup, which includes full-length Drai’s LIVE performances by top artists French Montana, Lil Baby, Rick Ross, TI, Juicy J, Nelly and more. April will also bring Meek Mill‘s first Drai’s Las Vegas performance of his new residency. Artists including Wiz Khalifa, DaBaby and Rick Ross join a jam-packed entertainment roster at Drai’s Beachclub. In addition, as the Las Vegas Strip prepares to host the GRAMMYs and the Draft for the first time, Drai’s has expanded their schedule, with the Nightclub once again hosting performances every Sunday night and Drai’s Beachclub now open weekends Friday through Sunday and set to open daily starting in May. 

Throughout April, Drai’s Beachclub will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday through Sunday. Drai’s Nightclub will be open from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m., Friday through Sunday.

Capella Grey × Nija – Confujawn

Bronx R&B sensation Capella Grey returns with a captivating new single called “Confujawn.” The intoxicating R&B anthem features breakout artist Nija, who showcases her trademark sultry vocals. The rich melodies and sensual vocals of “Confujawn” prove Grey has songs for everyone. For Queen, recording with Big Sean was “a bucket list collaboration.” Released shortly before Valentine’s Day, ”Hate Our Love“ amassed over 4.2 million combined global streams in its first week of release, her biggest debut since 2018’s “Karma,” which is certified Platinum. “Hate Our Love” was produced by Mike Woods (Kehlani, Kiana Lede, Yung Bleu). Not one to rest on her laurels, Shenseea has had an incredible lead up to the new single. She was tapped by Kanye West to add her rap and vocal stylings to two different songs on the now Grammy nominated DONDA (“Ok Ok Pt 2” and “Pure Souls”) as well as playing her first ever U.S. festivals with Rolling Loud in Miami and New York. All while putting finishing touches on the new project, burning the mic on Funk Flex Freestyle and releasing fan favourites like “Run Run” and “Be Good”. “Lick” is Shenseea’s first official single of 2022 and will be off her upcoming debut album coming out this year.
