Doja Cat – Freak

Today, multi-platinum, chart topping rapper/singer/songwriter/producer Doja Cat officially releases “Freak” at all digital service providers via Kemosabe/RCA Records. The track, which Doja initially uploaded to her SoundCloud last year quickly became a viral sensation on TikTok with over 1.2 million original creations. With over 5 million streams on SoundCloud, she treats fans by releasing the full track across all platforms while she works on new music.

Earlier this week, Doja was announced as one of the first wave of performers for the VMAs which are set to air live on MTV on August 30th at 8pm EST/PST. Doja is also nominated for 3 awards: PUSH: Best New Artist “Song of the Year” for “Say So” and Best Direction for Hannah Lux Davis on “Say So.” The nominations mark Doja’s first major award show nods continuing her breakthrough year. Born and raised in L.A., Doja Cat made her first upload to Soundcloud in 2013 at just 16-years-old. She developed a knack for music by studying piano and dance as a kid and listening to the likes of Busta Rhymes, Erykah Badu, Nicki Minaj, Drake, and more. Soon, she went from obsessing over Catwoman (the Halle Berry version) to “crate digging” on YouTube. The budding talent taught herself Logic and how to compose on a midi controller.

Kylie Jenner Appears on Vogue Hong Kong Cover

In recent months, the metropole Hong Kong appears almost daily in news feeds: ongoing protests, clashes with Beijing, the impacts of the new security law, and more. This week, however, Hong Kong finds itself in the news with a less then predictable name: Kylie Jenner.

The 22-year-old makeup and reality television mogul graces Hong Kong Vogue’s self-titled “Action Issue.” She poses in cranberry latex with white hot nails with the text “Act Now” printed across her lap. While the imagery of the cover is elegant, many are calling into question the decision to have Jenner fronting the issue, citing the ongoing dynamics currently in Hong Kong. The cover reveal comes just two days after Hong Kong delays its election, in what many are calling an effort to support the growing pro-Beijing presence in the city and cripple pro-democracy candidates. Both revelations follow years of protests in favor of democracy, with heightened tensions over the last few months due to the coronavirus and a new national security law imposed at the end of June.

Vogue Hong Kong cites on Instagram: “At the age of just 22, her beauty brand #KylieCosmetics has achieved far reaching success, and she is also active in charitable causes including funding surgeries for children with cleft lips and palate through Smile Train” as its reasons behind making Jenner the cover star. Similarly, Jenner gushed about her excitement on her own Instagram, but made no reference to the current political situation in the region. The cover appears especially interesting in context of the September issue of Vogue U.K. which features 20 different activists photographed in black and white.

Diet Prada on Instagram, a notorious critic of the fashion community, writes “Y tho?” when questioning the “Kendall for Pepsi move.” The latter statement is in reference to Kylie’s older sister Kendall Jenner’s own brush with controversy. Severe backlash and accusations of political tone deafness followed her now infamous 2017 Pepsi ad. In the ad, Kendall Jenner hands a police officer a Pepsi at a protest, seemingly in reference to the ongoing Black Lives Matter protests.

Comments, especially on social media, have called out Jenner and Vogue Hong Kong for the decision. “$5 she doesn’t even know what’s going on in Hong Kong,” joked one Instagram user. Another argued for criticism to be steered away from Jenner and instead towards the magazine: “How about you actually put an activist on the cover that stands for the message you’re trying to portray?” Currently, neither Vogue Hong Kong nor Kylie Jenner have commented on the criticism.

Grammy-nominated hip-hop artist, Tyga, joins forces with renowned restaurateur Robert Earl and Earl’s son Robbie, for the launch of TYGA BITES, a celebrity-owned virtual dining concept. Now available through Grubhub, TYGA BITES is a delivery-only concept that specializes in antibiotic-free, oven-baked, boneless chicken bites. Grubhub will be offering free delivery on orders of $15 or more for the entire month of August to new and existing customers on their first purchase of TYGA BITES*.

With the idea conceived by Tyga, Earl paired the artist with acclaimed chef, author, and TV personality, Eric Greenspan, to create a carefully crafted, bite-sized all-natural chicken that’s baked, not fried. Tyga curated TYGA BITES by adding his own specialty spice dusts that sprinkle the chicken with the right amount of sweet and spice, along with a wide variety of dipping sauces to further enhance the flavors.

“I wanted to make sure the whole menu, flavors, and even the packaging was on point,” said Tyga. “The bites are baked just right; choose a dip then take a sip! I even threw in some chocolate chip cookies for dessert.”

TYGA BITES’ online menu offers crispy, oven-baked chicken bites in three different spice dusts including Black Garlic, Lemon Black Pepper, and Peri-Peri, a mix of tangy, sweet and spicy. The bites will also be served with the option of twelve different dips, along with regular or sweet potato Tyga Tots, chocolate chip cookies, and beverages.

Today, NEON16 and Interscope Records release Tainy and J. Balvin’s “Agua” music video following last week’s inaugural digital track launch. The video offers a glimpse into the upcoming Paramount Animation/ Nickelodeon film ​THE SPONGEBOB MOVIE: SPONGE ON THE RUN with J. Boundary-pushing producer and artist, Tainy, and globally renowned artist J Balvin release “Agua,” the first single off of the official soundtrack from the upcoming animated film The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge On The Run. The song is out on NEON16/Interscope Records and available on all streaming platforms today.

The multiple Latin GRAMMY winning producer collaborated with J Balvin to create a song that captures the true essence of the beloved animated children show’s new feature film. The video which is set to release in the coming weeks, was directed by 36 Grados and filmed using the same cutting-edge animation seen in the film to help further bring to life the infectious beat created by Tainy that perfectly pairs with J Balvin’s signature silky smooth flow. Despite the fun beat and lyrics of “Swag,” the music video has a political undertone to it. In the video, fans can spot Tyga and Snoop Dogg dancing along to YG’s bop, continuing the energetic message of the song. But, the video also shows YG honoring Colin Kaepernick as YG kneels in a jersey. This homage follows YG’s intertwining of the BLM movement and police brutality with his music, as seen earlier this summer in his song “FTP.” “FTP” includes lyrics about racism in the U.S. and the music video was shot at a BLM protest in LA. “Swag” and “FTP” demonstrate a powerful connection between art and politics, which YG proudly delivers and listeners eagerly await to stream.
