Wimbledon’s Centre Court

This year, Wimbledon’s Centre Court turns 100. A century ago in 1922, the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club vacated residence at Worple Road to a new home at Church Road, now the spiritual home of tennis.

To recognise the storied history that has unfolded upon the now hallowed turf, the AELTC has announced the release of The Centenary Collection – ten digital masterpiece collectibles, minted on the blockchain, for tennis fans and collectors to call their own.

AELTC Communications and Marketing Director, Alexandra Willis, says the collection aims to edify the decades that have made Centre Court one of international sport’s most iconic stages.

“To celebrate 100 years of Centre Court with these unique digital collectibles, minted as NFTs, is a lovely contrast. Not only does this collection reflect the past, but, through the use of an innovation that has only begun to develop in the last 12 months, we are looking to the future, a timely reminder that how fans interact with sport will continue to evolve.

“It has been a great privilege for us to work on the creation of these artworks, which not only demonstrate a fascinating approach to memorialising these incredible passages of time, but with such beauty and creativity that they are worthy of the walls of the All England Club itself,” says Willis.

The Collection has been curated by Glorious Digital, a New Zealand based digital art studio and marketplace. Chief Executive Tim Harper says the artworks take inspiration not just from the on court history, but also from the culture, art, fashion and events of each decade.

“Wimbledon is treasured by one of the world’s largest and most dedicated assemblage of fans, many of whom will already enjoy an appreciation of digital art. With these fans in mind, Glorious has worked with the AELTC to craft a masterpiece Centenary Collection immortalising the magnificent history and legacy of Centre Court.

“Through the Wimbledon archives, we rediscovered photographs that capture some of The Championship’s most iconic moments. We then returned the images to a film contact sheet and enhanced them with handwritten calligraphy to illuminate the stories within. It was an intensive process, but well worth it – we are very proud of the result,” says Harper.

With each 1/100 for the 10 decades priced at £500, it’s likely the Collection will be quickly absorbed into Wimbledon’s global fanbase of millions, especially when a small number of the editions have already been whitelisted for some unnamed VIPs and a random selection within the Glorious Founding Membership.

Hopeful buyers will need to enter a ballot via HERE for the right to purchase.

Ballot entries will close on Middle Sunday, 3 July. Randomised entries will be drawn in the following days. Successful purchasers will be notified by email and have 48 hours to complete their purchase. If payment is not received within that time their successful ballot will be reallocated to another entrant.

To add to the excitement, purchasers cannot choose which decade of artwork they want to purchase. They’ll discover which masterpiece they have purchased on 10 July, the last day of the tournament, when The Centenary Collection will be officially released.

The Championships 2022 begin Monday 27 June with the Centenary Collection ballot opening on Monday June 13.

Blacc Zacc – Dirty Money

The self-anointed 803 Legend Blacc Zacc zips back into the forefront with his truck-rattling anthem “Dirty Money.” In his newest clip directed by Rook, Zacc heads to the Laundromat to show listeners how he and his team clean up money after a long day of work. With washing machines in tow, Zacc takes the proper precaution to ensure his earnings aren’t gone to waste. Zacc’s motor remains intact as he slings punchy bars about his moneymaking efforts, supplied with a slick hook. Watch HERE.

“Dirty Money” comes on the heels of Zacc’s 2020 album 803 Legend. Released in October 2020, the Carolina Narcos MC tightens his grip on the trap world with his 13-track collection. With features by Kevin Gates, 42 Dugg, Foogiano, Fat Loc, and more, 803 Legend includes a flurry of highlights, ranging from “Tennis” to his bombastic tune “Knew Dat.”

Since his 11-track debut album Carolina Narcos’ release, Blacc Zacc has emerged from the trenches with his trap-infused raps. Featuring his rap compatriots DaBaby, Moneybagg Yo, Yo Gotti, Stunna 4Vegas, fans have gravitated towards Zacc’s street appeal. The album also boasted production by Young Kio, OG Parker, Romano, and more.

About Blacc Zacc

Disney+ Star Charlie Bushnell Q×A

By: Ally Brewster

Charlie Bushnell is an up-and-coming actor that stars as Bobby Cañero-Reed in the Disney+ original series Diary of a Future President. The Disney+ original series produced by Gina Rodriguez’s production company I Can and I Will Productions is told through creator and producer Elena’s narration as written in her diary. The series follows the daily events of Elena’s life and her interactions with friends and family. She lives with her older brother, Bobby (portrayed by Charlie); and mother, Gabi. Elena has a strong desire to become a president of the United States, which is made visible through flash-forwards to her political campaign as an adult. All 10 episodes of the highly-anticipated Second Season is available on Disney+ to watch now.

We had the opportunity to ask Charlie about acting on the show and balancing his acting life with his personal, high school life:

You decided that you wanted to act while binging Stranger Things. What about the tv show inspired you to start acting? What other television and TV shows do you look to for inspiration?

Yeah! Stranger Things created such an extraordinary world, and I just fell in love with everything about it – the characters, the story, etc.… It was so unique, and I’d never seen anything like it before. All the main characters are kids around my age, so I could really relate to them. For some reason, even though I had never thought about it before, it just hit me that I could do that too… and now I’m here! It’s been a pretty wild ride so far, and I appreciate every minute of it. Another one of my all-time favorite shows is The Office.

Has it been difficult to balance high school and acting? How do you deal with the busy schedule and still maintain the activities you’ve previously enjoyed?

It can definitely be a lot, but I make it a priority to always create time for myself and relax, even when life is crazy busy. When we filmed season 2, it was during the school year, and as students, we had to do at least 3 hours of school a day on set, so we basically had no breaks besides lunch, lol. When we weren’t filming, we were doing school, and when we weren’t doing school, we were filming. But I LOVE what I do, and even though it can be quite stressful at times, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

What has been your favorite part of acting in Diary of a Future President?

I literally cannot think of one negative thing or experience I’ve had while working on this show, so every part is my favorite part, haha… but if I had to choose, definitely the people. I have made some life-long friends on this show. We all get along so well and always have an absolute blast together on set. I love my Diary family so much! ❤️

Where do you hope your character Bobby Cañero-Reed goes in this next season? Can you give any teasers for what’s next for him in the new season?

In season 2, Bobby is in high school and has everything all planned out. He’s looking forward to joining the varsity tennis team and getting closer to Liam; however, things don’t exactly go as planned. As expected, after entering high school, Bobby’s world really opens up, and he meets a lot of really cool new people.

Diary of a Future President is one of your biggest roles. Has it taught you anything new about acting and the business? What have you taken away from the experience?

Well, Bobby is really my only role (so far), haha… But yes! I have learned so much while working on this show. As an actor, watching pros like Gina Rodriguez, Selenis Leyva, Michael Weaver, Jessica Marie Garcia, and others just do their thing is like the ultimate master class in acting. Everyone on this show is so incredibly talented; it’s insane. But I’ve also learned so much about the filmmaking process as a whole and just how much goes into it. When you watch the final product of a movie or show, you really only see the actor. Still, something I’ve really opened my eyes to while working on this show is that literally every single person in the cast and on the crew – from the lighting department to the camera operators to HMU to wardrobe, etc.… plays such a crucial part in the making of a TV show or movie. It would not be possible without every single one of them—huge shoutout to our Diary crew. You guys are the best! ❤️

About Charlie Bushnell:

Los Angeles-native Charlie Bushnell was born into an artistic family and was always destined to be in entertainment. The son of a musician, grandson of a jazz singer and nephew to a film and television actor, at just 10 years old he started making movies with his friends.

While binge-watching “Stranger Things”, he made the decision to pursue acting. In the beginning, Bushnell self-trained by memorizing his favorite film monologues. He participated in school plays and eventually started taking professional acting classes at John Rosenfeld Studios, Ruskin Academy, amongst others.

Auditions quickly followed and he soon landed the role of Bobby Cañero-Reed in the Disney+ coming-of-age comedy series Diary of a Future President, executive produced by Gina Rodriguez through her production company, I Can and I Will.

The series follows 13-year old Cuban-American Elena in her journey to become the future president of the United States while navigating the ups-and-downs of middle school. Bobby is Elena’s sweet and mischievous older brother, now a freshman in high school.

Presently, you will see Charlie reprise his role as Bobby in the upcoming season on Disney+. You will see him grow and blossom as he navigates high school.

Off screen, Charlie, currently a junior in high school, loves playing tennis, camping, playing guitar, going to the beach, volunteering at a food shelter and enjoying time with his family and friends.

Ash Barty Conquers Wimbledon!

Rado ambassador Ash Barty’s star is rising higher and higher. In an interview last year with ABC News she was quoted: “One day I would love to be the champion here, it’s a dream”. That dream became reality on Saturday when she defeated Karolina Pliskova in the final of the oldest and most prestigious Grand Slam tournament – Wimbledon.

Even before her latest exploit, the 2021 season has been a terrific one for the Australian tennis star. Ranked World Number 1 since June 2019, she has already added three more singles titles to her impressive personal record. After her win at the Yarra Valley Classic in Melbourne in February, she claimed the title at the Miami Open (WTA 1000) in March and won both singles and doubles titles at the Porsche Grand Prix Cup in Stuttgart. With her second Grand Slam title (after Roland Garros in 2019), she consolidated her Number 1 position in an impressive way.

According to Ash’s childhood coach, she picked up her first racquet at the age of 4 and hit the first ball he tossed to her right back to him. A Junior Wimbledon Champion at 15 and three-time Grand Slam Doubles finalist at 17, Ash became Australia’s highest-ranked player at 21 and the World Number 1 at just 23. In addition to her 12 career singles titles, Ash has won 11 career doubles titles, playing with different partners. Now 25 years of age, she enjoys a well-earned reputation as one of the WTA’s most dynamic and talented players.

Ash Barty’s Rado connection goes back to 2017 when she joined the Swiss watchmaker’s YoungStar programme. With Rado, she shares an abiding love of the game, unwavering determination, and a passion for endlessly inventive and creative play. Ash also enjoys the design aspect of the relationship and worked with Rado designers to develop the look of the Rado HyperChrome Ash Barty Limited Edition. After this off-court experience she said: “As a watch lover, I enjoyed working on the design and helping the team create this beautiful piece. I love it!” And so, apparently, do her friends and fans: Ash and Rado have started work on a second Limited Edition Rado that will carry her name.

Ash Barty has renewed her association with the brand and serves today as an ambassador for Rado, which stands with tennis fans everywhere in taking pride in her achievements and stature as one of the greatest players in the game.

Rado has been a committed supporter of tennis and sponsor of international tournaments for close to 40 years and is the Official Timekeeper for a range of high-profile tournaments around the world.

NFL Players Top Highest-Paid Athletes Ranking

The world’s best athletes have plenty of opportunities to bank on their popularity. Besides lucrative sports contracts, most of them earn even more significant profits from heavy endorsement deals.

Although the MMA fighter Conor McGregor grasps the top of this list, most of the world’s highest-paid athletes come from another sport.

According to data presented by SafeBettingSites.com, NFL players top the ranking of the highest-paid athletes with combined earnings of over $837 million.

18 NFL Players Among the Highest-Paid Athletes, Basketball Follows with 13 Players on the List

In 2021, Conor McGregor racked up on and off-field earnings of around $180 million. However, the fighter was the only athlete from his discipline to make it into the Forbes` Top 50 highest-paid athletes list.

Statistics show the National Football League convincingly leads in this ranking with 18 NFL stars who made it into the top 50. However, Dak Prescott, as the highest-paid NFL player and fourth highest-paid athlete globally, earned much more than other NFL stars. In 2021, the famous quarterback racked up $107.5 million, 40% more than Tom Brady as the next NFL name on the list.

Basketball ranked as the second-highest-paid sport globally, with 13 players on the Forbes list. As the highest-paid basketball player and fifth highest-paid athlete globally, LeBron James made $96.5 million in on and off-field earnings this year. Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry followed with $75 million and $74.5 million, respectively.

Although soccer represents the third highest-paid sport with eight players who made it to the list, Lionel Messi ranked as the second-highest-paid athlete globally with $130 million in this year’s earnings.

Roger Federer, Naomi Osaka, Serena Williams, and Novak Djokovic were the only tennis players who made it to the top 50 list, with $90 million, $60 million, $41.5 million, and $34.5 million in earnings, respectively.

18 NFL Stars Earned Over $837 Million in 2021

As the highest-paid golf player and twelfth highest-paid athlete globally, Tiger Woods racked up $60 million in 2021, much more than Dustin Johnson and Phil Mickelson as the other two golf stars on this list.

The Formula 1 driver, Lewis Hamilton, made $82 million in on and off-field earnings in 2021, ranking eight among the highest-paid athletes. Max Verstappen, who arrived in Formula 1 at the age of 17 as the youngest driver ever to have competed in the series, was the second name from the auto racing world to enter the Forbes list with $42.5 million in this year’s earnings.

Statistics show the combined earnings of the 18 NFL stars from the Forbes list hit more than $837 million this year. Basketball players who made it to the list racked up $683.5 million in 2021. Soccer players followed with $527 million in combined earnings.

Naomi Osaka × Mental Health Advocacy

Naomi Osaka, the highest paid female athlete to date, recently withdrew from the French Open and announced on Monday that she will also withdraw from the Berlin WTA 500 tournament. Osaka is 23 and is currently ranked number one by the Women’s Tennis Association in singles and number two in doubles, and is the first Asian player to hold the top rank in singles. Osaka has defeated long time tennis star Serena Williams and made over 37 million in endorsement deals last year.

Making enormous strides as a young, non-white female athlete and especially so in an underappreciated women’s sport, it was very shocking to hear of her depart from the French Open and subsequently from the Berlin 500 tournament. Doing what was best for her mental health, most were understanding and many of her competitors gave their praise and support for her decision. Osaka tweeted announcing her initial decision to not speak to the press on Twitter stating, “I’ve often felt that people have no regard for an athlete’s mental health and this rings very true whenever I see a press conference or partake in one.” After her announcement began to garner a lot of attention, she released another tweet explaining her leave from current play, “I think now the best thing for the tournament, the other players, and my well-being is I withdraw from the tournament so everyone can get back to focusing on the tennis going on in Paris.

Serena Williams responded to Osaka’s decision by saying “I feel for Naomi. I feel like I wish I could give her a hug because I know what it’s like… You just have to let her handle it the way she wants to, in the best way she thinks she can.” While many agreed with Williams and shared similar sentiments, Osaka did receive a fair amount of backlash from her decision. Many criticized her for not being mentally tough and encouraged her to just talk to the press. Borris Becker, another tennis star, had a slightly different opinion, stating he was scared how Osaka’s career would fare after this decision and if she could not learn to handle the stress of a professional sports career.

Osaka told the press that she had too much anxiety over post-game press conferences; having dealt with anxiety and depression for a while and feels that interacting with the press increases her anxiety. When Osaka refused to speak to the press after her first French Open match, she was fined $15,000 and could have faced more severe punishment if she continued to ignore the press. Osaka later withdrew from the tournament after and announced her mental health was more important than her playing at this moment.

Many of you may remember a similar situation with the Seattle Seahawks running back, Marshawn Lynch, who would refuse to speak at press conferences. While it was included in his contract that he attends press conferences he told the press in a 2015 press conference that he did not appreciate the media constantly in his face hounding him, and that he felt the media was mad at him whether he spoke or not so he would prefer to say nothing at all. Called to be in compliance with his contract he would show up at every press conference and sit there not speaking or saying no comment. It came to be a joke to everyone and later clips of him at press conferences were turned into viral memes. We can see the comparison here and I wonder if the difference in reaction is because of the difference in sport or the difference in gender of the player. Both players are highly praised in their respective sports, they are top performing athletes and are both old and mature enough to make their own decisions as for what is best for them and their mental health.

Mental health struggles, although not new, have become newly accepted in society and it is a relatively new idea that celebrities, professionals and professional athletes can openly talk about their mental health struggles and hope to not to be put down for them. Although many still are, it is a sad thing to witness someone receive negative comments after claiming they are doing what they believe is in their best interests. We all struggle with mental health in one way or another and if Osaka believes it is best for her to not talk to the press, that should be a respected opinion by the community.

There will always be players, whether that is newbies who want to get their name out there and enjoy the spotlight, captains such as Megan Rapinoe and LeBron James who enjoy speaking on behalf of their team and feel it is in their duties as captains and team members to speak, or just someone who enjoys talking and doesn’t mind speaking to the press, there will never be a shortage of players, coaches, and staff members who are willing to give their opinion and comment at press conferences. All players should not be mandated to speak to the press if it is something they are not comfortable with.

With the negative reaction Osaka received, the fine and the additional media coverage she received after announcing she wanted very little, Osaka was forced to drop out from two major tournaments. Osaka discussed how she feels the tennis community, and higher ups could do a better job of supporting players and ensuring that they have good mental health. She and many others hope this starts the process of bettering all athletes’ mental health and changing outdated rules; hopefully this change does not come at the cost of a young star’s tennis career.

ABOUT K-SWISS

From the beginning, K-Swiss has been driven by an entrepreneurial spirit when two Swiss brothers moved to California to create a footwear brand focused on tennis. As avid skiers, the brothers took inspiration from leather ski boots to create a tennis shoe that supported the aggressive side-to-side movement. Introduced in 1966, the K-Swiss Classic was the world’s first all-leather tennis shoe and powered some of the best tennis players of the time to win major championships. It quickly gained worldwide acclaim and became a style statement both on and off the court, corn casually in country clubs and just as fashionably on city streets. More than 50 years later, K-Swiss is building from its heritage as an American tennis brand and writing new chapters in its storied history. Paying homage to the hard work of our founders and the competitive nature of the game that inspired it all, K-Swiss is dedicated to outfitting and inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs.
