Faunalytics x Farm Sanctuary

A new study from Faunalytics suggests that people who interact with farm animals at sanctuaries are more likely to consume fewer animal products.

Farm Sanctuary, America’s premier farm animal sanctuary and advocacy organization, joined Faunalytics to release the study, which showed that 70% of non-vegans who went on a tour through Farm Sanctuary said they would make dietary changes to reduce consumption of animal products. Comparatively, only 53% said they would change their diets prior to taking the tour.

You can see the study by clicking right here.

Farm Sanctuary followed up with participants in the survey two months later, and non-vegans reported eating less chicken, turkey, beef, pork, fish, shellfish, eggs and dairy, with many correspondents crediting the tour for that change.

Tourists didn’t only make active lifestyle changes. They also changed opinions. While 52% of participants said humans contribute to farm animal suffering before the tour, that number went up to 69% after the tour.

78% of omnivores said they were willing to cook vegetarian or vegan meals, which is up 12% from the 66% who were willing before the tour. 48% also said they were willing to discuss veganism and vegetarianism with others, but 73% said they’d had conversations with others about the subject at the time of the two month check-in.

The study took place at Farm Sanctuary locations in New York and California with over 1,200 subjects, and Farm Sanctuary hopes to continue progress by showing that tours can be both fun and effective.

Tom Beggs, a Faunalytics research scientist and the lead author of the study, said the public is becoming more aware of the way animals are treated in the food system, and a global shift is happening.

“The results from our study confirm something that most farm animal sanctuaries are already aware of: having meaningful interactions with farmed animals encourages people to empathize with them, and more importantly, to consider them as sentient individuals and not food,” Beggs said.

The study also shows that it’s important to find a balance between light-hearted and educational when sending a message about animal cruelty. The best way to spread the word is to make it easy to take immediate action by doing things like providing recipes, selling plant-based ingredients and foods and offering opportunities to get more involved in the cause.

Megan Watkins, CEO of Farm Sanctuary, said industrial agriculture is a major threat to our current world.

“The critical role that farm sanctuaries play in modeling a compassionate relationship with animals and inspiring positive lifestyle change cannot be overstated,” Watkins said. “Whether you visit in-person or virtually, the best way to glimpse the future is to visit a farm sanctuary.”

Harley-Davidson Museum

The Harley-Davidson Museum is celebrating October with more than just its one-of-a-kind collection of motorcycles and memorabilia, as Milwaukee’s own musicians and artists will be on-campus to provide extra entertainment.

De La Buena, Lex Allen and Trapper Schoepp will take the stage Oct. 11 as part of a Rock the Green event. Tickets cost $10 and benefit Jazz Gallery Center for the Arts, Danceworks and Schlitz Audubon Nature Center.

Artists are also invited to participate in “Drawing in the H-D Museum” as part of Gallery Night and Day. Philip Salamone will take participants through the creative process in the event which will take place Oct. 16.

New all-electric LiveWire motorcycles will be available for demo rides Oct. 17 and 18. In promotion of the new Apple TV+ series “Long Way Up,” everyone who rides one of the motorcycles will receive a limited-edition LiveWire poster.

While guests are welcomed back to the museum, the first priority is safety. To see how the Harley-Davidson Museum is protecting guests, you can click right here.

They also have a few must-see exhibits available for only a little while longer.

Taming the Road in Style shows Harley-Davidson from the beginning. At a time in which motorcycles were nothing more than chunks of dirt, stone and other debris, designers struggled to build a comfortable bike. Many improvements to suspension, seats and frames later, Harley-Davidsons looked nothing like they did at their inception. Taming the Road in Style traces the history of Harley-Davidson motorcycles all the way until the most modern models. This exhibit closes Nov. 8.

“Tex’s Motorcycle” is a painting by Stevan Dohanos, who frequently contributed to the “Saturday Evening Post.” On the streets of Georgetown, Conn. was “Tex” Keller’s personalized motorcycle. He used nickel spots to decorate his saddle bag and put fur on his saddle. While prints of the painting are available all over the country, the original can only be seen at the Harley-Davidson Museum.

Building a Milwaukee Icon: Harley-Davidson’s Juneau Avenue Factory” is a collection of architectural drawings, including plans for the original facility on Juneau Avenue. Pencil drawings and archival photos show how Harley-Davidson grew from producing 1,000 motorcycles in 1909 to 27,000 in 1920. The Milwaukee factory continued to expand and is still the home of Harley-Davidson 100 years later.

“Building a Milwaukee Icon” shows Harley-Davidson in the middle of the period during which Milwaukee was known as the “Machine Shop to the World.” The Harley-Davidson Museum social channels will be providing behind-the-scenes looks at this exhibit.

They also offer tours. Engines 101 is a class taking visitors inside the engine. How does a powertrain work, and what’s so special about the 4-stroke engine? It’s all available to learn in a classroom setting. Ticket are available right here.

The H-D Museum Campus Walking Tour is the best way to absorb Harley-Davidson history and culture in the great outdoors. You can download a PDF of the campus map by clicking right here.

Named for their breakout hit ‘Just My Type,’ the pins are also available for purchase with 100% of net profits going to The American Red Cross. Likewise, Saint Motel has joined with the National Independent Venue Association’s #SaveOurStages campaign to ask Congress to provide aid to their network of nearly 2,000 independent live music venues across the country, many of which the band has performed, that have been 100% shut down with zero revenue due to the pandemic. All profits from a special Saint Motel X Save Our Stages tour t-shirt will go directly to NIVA’s efforts. Both items are available in the Saint Motel Gift Shop.

New iann dior Music Video

21-year-old rapper iann dior released a new music video for his song “Prospect” on Tuesday. It can be seen here!

The song features Lil Baby and was featured on Spotify playlists like Rap Caviar, Get Turnt and New Music Friday, all helping to propel it to more than 41 million streams since its May release.

The gorgeously shot video is directed by Omar Jones and inspired by Chinese landscape, architecture and colors to tribute the obvious inspiration to the beat. According to the press release, dior’s plans to tour in Asia were cancelled because of the pandemic, so the music video was his next best choice to show love to his Chinese fans.

“Prospect” is just dior’s latest in a long line of hits in a short period of time. Growing up in Corpus Christi, he quickly learned he was a talented writer and decided to turn that talent into hip-hop music. His first song earned 10,000 streams and caught the attention of Taz Taylor, the founder of Internet Money.

He released “Cutthroat” in 2019 which racked up 13 million streams on SoundCloud. He then inked a deal with 10K Projects, with whom he released his first mixtape titled “nothing’s ever good enough.”

dior gives credit to J. Cole for inspiring him to make music.

“He showed me that I could use songs to tell my own story, just like he uses his songs to tell his story,” dior said.

“Prospect” can be found along with other hits like “Pretty Girls,” “Sick and Tired” and “Paradise” on his new album, “I’m Gone,” which was released in June.

Planning a US Trip After the Quarantine? Here’s What You Need to Prepare

Traveling is good for people’s souls as it reduces stress to most of us. But with this current pandemic happening around the world, people can’t even go back to their normal life and it really affects everything. It is like a nightmare that everyone’s wishing to end. Many flights these days are postponed and canceled and traveling is very limited for essential goods only. Quarantine and lockdown are implemented globally and it requires social distancing.

We all know that most people dream to travel across the US. It is the most popular travel destination throughout the world. You can still pursue your American dream when the virus is not present anymore. Planning a US trip for a vacation after this pandemic can be very exciting after a long period of staying at home, but we have to be more careful than usual and prepare everything needed to travel safely because as they say this is the new normal.
Here are the things you need to prepare for your future US Trip.

Passport and Visa

When traveling to other countries, it is important that you have a valid passport with at least a minimum of 6 months’ validity for most of the countries requirements. It is also important to obtain a visa if the consulate requires you to have before you enter the country. This depends on the regulation for every passport type. Some countries will be asked to obtain ESTA or the Electronic System for Travel Authorization, which replaces the American express visa system in the US for certain countries. https://www.estaform.org/ was formed by the Department of Homeland Security of the United States, allowing 39 nations the freedom to travel to the US without needing to apply for an official American visa.

TSA Approved Lock

When traveling to the US it is a must to buy a TSA approved lock before packing your luggage. Transportation Security Administration or TSA implements strict baggage procedures for safety and security. All bags are screened and sometimes need to be physically checked so they are allowed to break your bag lock. It is helpful if you buy a TSA approved lock to avoid losing or breaking it and to keep your bags safe to your final destination.

Itinerary

The United States is a very big country and it has many states. Before your trip, it is essential to plan your itinerary so you can fulfill your American dream. Consider exceptional and thrilling destinations with rich histories and cultures. Of course don’t forget to list down the popular places like New York, LA, and Vegas. Prepare for the activities you might want to visit and try like Universal Studios. List down everything so that you will not miss out on anything on your trip.

Accommodation and Pocket Money

No one wants to cram at the airport with their heavy luggage and ruin the trip because of stress. Book your hotel or accommodation before your trip so that everything will go smoothly upon arrival in the US. You have endless options for accommodation so you can choose whether you prefer the luxurious or the budget time lodging. Most prices in the US are listed excluding the tax and it also depends on where you are visiting. So be prepared to have enough budgets as everything will have additional costs.

All things will run smoothly if you will be well prepared for your dream US trip. You just have to keep in mind that this time you also have to be extra careful and practice proper hygiene to prevent any health risk. Don’t forget to always bring alcohol and sanitizers and of course, always wash your hands to keep yourself traveling healthy and COVID free.

U.S. Olympic Swim Trials Proves to be a Beacon of Hope for Omaha

The disruption caused by COVID-19 has seen an unprecedented number of event cancellations and postponements across the globe. The first sign of hope for Omaha came in the form of USA Swimming’s announcement on Friday, April 10, 2020 that the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming will return to Omaha June 13-20, 2021.

“During a time when hotels, restaurants, attractions and businesses are suffering tremendously, this announcement is a huge catalyst of hope for our city,” said Keith Backsen, Visit Omaha executive director.

The 2020 U.S. Olympic Swim Trials, originally set to take place in Omaha this year, were called off when the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The new 2021 dates mean the Swim Trials will overlap with the opening weekend of the 2021 NCAA Men’s College World Series in Omaha.

“The overlap created some tough logistical issues,” said Backsen. “But once again, our city rallied together and demonstrated its resilience.”

The new dates also mean Omaha will go down in history as the first city to host an Olympic Trials for both the Summer and Winter Olympic games in the same year. Omaha is set to host the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Curling for the second time, November 13-21, 2021.

This will be the fourth time since 2008 that Omaha has hosted the U.S. Olympic Swim Trials. The 2008 and 2012 Trials broke attendance records, and in 2016 attendance exceeded 200,000 for the first time ever, with all 15 sessions sold out. In 2017, Omaha held its first Olympic Curling Trials. This set the stage for the 2018 Winter Olympics in which the U.S. Curling Team went on to win gold for the first time.

For all things Omaha go HERE.

Helsinki Energy Challenge

Helsinki wants to offer a platform for new, sustainable and innovative solutions, and, on 27 February, the City opened the international Helsinki Energy Challenge. The competition seeks to find solutions, by means of which the city can be heated in a sustainable way without coal and with as little biomass as possible during the upcoming decades. The grand prize of the competition is one million euros. The City of Helsinki lives up to its global responsibility in the fight against climate change and is committed to sharing the results of the competition openly, in order to allow other cities to benefit from them in their own climate work. The role of the cities in the fight against the climate crisis is decisive.

Despite the world situation caused by the coronavirus, the City of Helsinki keeps investing heavily in its climate work. The climate crisis has not been cancelled and the City is still working its way towards a carbon neutral Helsinki. In order to get the best possible result out of the Helsinki Energy Challenge even in this changed situation, it has been decided that the registration phase is prolonged. The prolonged registration phase ends on 30 September 2020. The finalist teams invited to the second phase of the competition are announced in the beginning of November and the winner of the competition will be revealed in March 2021.

“Our competition got off to a great start at the end of February, and the reception has been overwhelmingly positive both in Finland and abroad. It is clear that we have started something unique. However, the changed world situation caused by the coronavirus comes at a difficult stage in respect to our competition. Innovators and potential competitors now need time to adapt to the new situation and prolonging the registration phase of the competition is necessary at this point. The competition process will remain otherwise unaltered. Despite the coronavirus, we need to stick to the climate goals. We still have to get rid of coal and we want to replace it with long-term sustainable solutions. We are fulfilling our responsibility in the fight against the global climate crisis and we will not let it wait until the coronavirus crisis has blown over. Both the Helsinki Energy Challenge and our other climate efforts continue at full strength”, notes Helsinki Mayor Jan Vapaavuori.

During the prolonged registration phase of the Helsinki Energy Challenge, there will be additional webinars and other virtual events, during which the competitors can learn more about the competition, but also look for members to their competition team. Interested parties are encouraged to enter the competition as diversified and cross-disciplinary teams.

The new competition schedule and further information about the Helsinki Energy Challenge can be found HERE
