Zeds Dead – Alive featuring MKLA

Zeds Dead Drop New House Single Alive with MKLA via Deadbeats

Listen HERE

Ahead of DeadRocks, Two Night Show at Red Rocks Amphitheater on July 2nd & 3rd

Zeds Dead are back with a brand new single – Alive with MKLA – celebrating their imminent return to the touring circuit. Alive sees Zeds Dead gravitating to house music, continuing their multi-genre approach to music production and building on their signature sound.

Alive is a grooving late-night house jam ripe with progressive melodies, evoking a sense of comfort and euphoria. Zeds Dead tapped MKLA for the track, pairing her ethereal vocals with minimalist synths and a four to the floor beat that rounds out the intoxicating club record.

Alive is Zeds Dead’s first release since their genre-defying mixtape Catching Z’s in March, a project that runs the gamut of electronic music, blending elements of downtempo, drum and bass, and house into a cohesive 13-track project. While Catching Z’s was released on the recently launched Altered States record label, Alive drops on Zeds Dead’s own label Deadbeats. No strangers to house music, Zeds Dead fans will remember their blow out house hit You Know, a collaboration with Oliver Heldens.

MKLA and Zeds Dead shared some words about their collaboration:

This is one of my favorite songs that I feel like I’ve ever written and working with Zeds Dead on it has been one of the most amazing experiences I’ve had on a record, yet. Zeds Dead are artists who believe in making music that feels conceptual, meaningful, and emotional – I’d gotten a sense of this even before we started working together because the vocals / lyrics they showcase always have something deeper to say and the artists they work with are the same. I’m really grateful that I could connect with such legendary artists in such a meaningful, artful way. – MKLA

We’re excited to get this new one out with our friend MKLA and to play it out at our first shows since March 2020 this weekend at DeadRocks! – Zeds Dead

The release comes ahead of two sold-out shows at Red Rocks on July 2nd and 3rd; the 7th annual DeadRocks, which has become the mecca for Zeds Dead fans who travel from around the world to attend the yearly event. This year DeadRocks is perhaps the most anticipated yet, after the unfortunate cancellation of last year’s festival during the thick of the pandemic. They are headlining both nights, with opening support from the likes of Blunts & Blondes, Delta Heavy, Zeke Beats, Sippy, Chomppa, Kill The Noise, Eprom, GG Magree, Chee and Nostalgix.

And for the first time ever Zeds Dead will be extending the DeadRocks celebrations for a third day with two more events they will be headlining on July 4th; the inaugural Deadbeats Backyard Jamboree at Sculpture Park during the day time and a sold out DeadRocks Hangover event at the Mission Ballroom in the evening.

Then they’re off to Chandler, AZ for Deadbeats Arizona at the Rawhide Events Center on July 10th and 11th, where they’ll be joined by Subtronics, Rusko, Dirt Money, Lick, Level Up and Cheiif.

This fall, they’re embarking on the Deadbeats: Revival Tour, a nationwide tour of the US. It’s a welcome return to the touring circuit for one of the most beloved duos in dance music today.

About Zeds Dead

Zeds Dead is one of the top electronic artists today. Their consistent stream of quality releases has won them the adoration of millions of fans and praise from the biggest names in music. Their independent record label Deadbeats continues to break the hottest electronic artists and their Deadbeats tour has expanded across the globe.

Inhaler – Totally

INHALER SHARE NEW TRACK TOTALLY, LISTEN HERE, DEBUT ALBUM OUT JULY 9, NORTH AMERICAN TOUR SET FOR MARCH 2022

Today Inhaler share their new track Totally out now on Interscope Records.  The song premiered alongside an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music. Listen to Totally HERE.

Totally is the latest song to be shared from Inhaler’s debut album It Won’t Always Be Like This, which is set for release on July 9th and available for pre-order HERE. Singer and guitarist Eli Hewson, bassist Robert Keating, guitarist Josh Jenkinson and drummer Ryan McMahon have made a record that captures their evolution from exciting upstarts to refined songsmiths. It takes in a dazzling array of sonic textures, where huge, hooky choruses perfectly meld with intricate, dynamic instrumentation.

A Covid-enforced delay encouraged the four-piece to find new levels as a band, opening up both their sound and their lyrical themes. Songs about meeting girls turned into reflections on society and how to get through tough periods. We started writing this when we were teenagers and now we’re adults, says Keating. I wanted the songs to feel positive, adds Hewson. Because… it won’t always be like this.

Recorded with long-term collaborator and producer Antony Genn at London’s Narcissus Studios, it’s a coming-of-age record about losing yourself and finding yourself again, trying to make sense of the world when the world doesn’t make much sense.

Inhaler will play an 18-date tour of the UK & Ireland later this year before heading to the states for their March 2022 North American headline tour. The dates in September, October and December include brand new UK tour dates alongside the band’s rescheduled tour of Ireland. Click HERE for a complete list of UK and Ireland tour dates.

Inhaler formed while still at school in Dublin, bonding over a love of Joy Division, The Stone Roses, Kings Of Leon, The Strokes, Interpol, The Cure and more. A string of captivating singles and their fevered live show have earned them a diehard fanbase. The band were originally meant to begin recording It Won’t Always Be Like This in March 2020 but their plans were derailed by lockdown. Instead of moping, they used the period as a time to rethink and reimagine what their debut album could be.

The 13-track project finds Tril, the melodic wunderkind floating through tracks with ease. And when he is not crooning, Tril looks to save the rap game with his steely wordplay, as proven on his sticky intro Hero. His confidence remains top-notch on the swaggering tune Hot Shot. GWEN BERRY PROTESTS ANTHEM ON OLYMPIC STAGE

By: Clara Guthrie

On Saturday June 26, hammer thrower Gwen Berry turned her back on the American flag while the national anthem played as she stood on the podium during the track and field Olympic trials in Eugene, Oregon, saying she felt “set-up” by the timing of the song. Berry had just placed third in her respective event, meaning she had secured her spot at the postponed 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The opening ceremony will take place on July 23, and the rest of the Olympics schedule can be found HERE.

According to the Associated Press, the national anthem had played once every night of the track and field qualifying events, meaning “The Star-Spangled Banner” had played consecutively for eight nights before Berry stepped onto the podium. USA Track and Field spokeswoman Susan Hazzard said in a statement, “We didn’t wait until the athletes were on the podium for the Hammer Throw awards, the national anthem is played every day according to a previously published schedule.”

Berry, however, claimed that she was told the national anthem would play before the athletes walked back onto the field to receive their medals. “They said they were going to play it before we walked out, then they played it when we were out there,” Berry said. “But I don’t really want to talk about the anthem because that’s not important. The anthem doesn’t speak for me. It never has.”

Berry’s behavior on the podium reflected her immediate surprise and discomfort when the anthem began to play. The Associated Press described the moment:

“While the music played, Berry placed her left hand on her hip and shuffled her feet. She took a quarter turn, so she was facing the stands, not the flag. Toward the end, she plucked up her black T-shirt with the words ‘Activist Athlete’ emblazoned on the front, and draped it over her head.”

Berry is no stranger to merging activism with top-tier athletics. At the 2019 Pan-American Games held in Peru, Berry raised her fist in protest as the national anthem played; she was, again, on the podium, this time receiving a gold medal. The backlash Berry faced for this action was swift and aggressive. According to ESPN, one Twitter user simply said, “Love our country or move out!!”

In defense of her silent and yet impactful protest at the 2019 Pan-American Games was her father, Michael Berry. He said, “For her to do that on the podium is more American than anything, if you ask me. Because that’s what our country is founded on: freedom of expression, freedom of speech.” It is important to note that Michael Berry is an Iraq War veteran—a member of a group that is often brought up as one that is disrespected by any form of protest during the playing of the national anthem.

The US Olympic and Paralympic Committee however, clearly disagreed with Berry’s father’s statement, instead sentencing Berry to a one-year probation for breaking the Olympic code of conduct. At the time, this set of rules forbade any form of demonstration while at Olympic-affiliated venues. According to NBC News, the committee has since apologized to Berry for this punishment. Race Imboden, an American fencer, took a knee while on the podium at his respective medal ceremony at the same Pan-American Games and was also put on probation for one year. While these sorts of demonstrations are still illegal according to the International Olympic Committee, the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee has since changed their rules to allow for some kinds of political demonstrations.

But after her most recent act of protest at the Olympic trials on Saturday, Berry is only renewed in her commitment to social justice, specifically in dismantling systemic racism. In the aforementioned conversation with the Associated Press, Berry said, “My purpose and my mission is bigger than sports. I’m here to represent those […] who died due to systemic racism. That’s the important part. That’s why I’m going. That’s why I’m here today.”

In the wake of Berry’s actions, #gwenberry was trending on Twitter, triggering a storm of passionate comments voicing both praise and pride, as well as disappointment and downright hatred—with many users on the latter side calling for her outright removal from the Olympic team. Republican politician Tom Basile took to Twitter to say, “She’s a disgrace and should not be allowed to represent this country. Period.” Another user added, “When your [sic] supposed to rep your country in the Olympics and turn your back on the flag, you should be stripped of that chance at the Olympics. […] Rooting against her in Tokyo.”

The hashtag has also been flooded with support of Berry’s protest. One user said, “Storming the Capitol and enslaving Americans are NOT acts of patriotism but you don’t want to talk about that. Protesting is patriotic.” Columnist Carron J. Phillips agreed, saying, “She’s a patriot. And if you’re mad at a 2-time Olympian but not the terrorists who stormed the Capitol, you’re part of the problem.”

Other Twitter users astutely observed that Gwen Berry is among many famous and celebrated athletes who have used their high-publicity roles to engage in and push forward different social movements, specifically dismantling systemic racism in America. Former-NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick became the center of a heated debate in 2016 when he began kneeling during the national anthem before his games to send a message about police brutality and discrimination against Black Americans. And at the 1968 Mexico City summer Olympic games, track and field athletes Tommie Smith and John Carlos made waves when they both raised a fist in the black power salute during the national anthem as they received gold and bronze medals, respectively.

All four of these athletes—Tommie Smith, John Carlos, Colin Kaepernick and now, Gwen Berry—are paragons of protest and serve as resonant reminders that protest is inherently meant to make us uncomfortable and catalyze change. Berry may be a newer member of this long-standing tradition of Black athletes pushing for political change, but she most certainly will not be the last.

MONEYBAGG YO – WOCKESHA

MONEYBAGG YO DELIVERS HIGHLY ANTICIPATED VIDEO FOR WOCKESHA WITH APPEARANCE FROM LIL WAYNE

Today, multiplatinum musician Moneybagg Yo unveiled the long-awaited video for his hit song Wockesha, which he co-directed alongside Ben Marc.

The breezy visual kicks off with a cameo from hip-hop legend Lil Wayne, who divulges his infamous speech on dismissing those who can’t mind their business.  Frame by frame, we see Moneybagg Yo become disillusioned by a lover which includes him seeing a mirage that equates to a complicated relationship.

Wockesha quickly became a fan favorite from the release of Bagg’s critically acclaimed fourth studio albumA Gangsta’s Pain, which recently earned gold-certification from the RIAA. On the metaphorical record, which samples DeBarge’s pillowy track, Stay With Me, Bagg finds himself taping into more of his emotional side. The Southern artist opens about indulging on his toxic pleasures, he raps “One minute I’m done with you, the next one I be runnin’ back. Go your way, I go my way, but somehow we be still attached.” Today the track has nearly 150 million streams globally across all streaming partners and has charted on the Billboard Hot 100.

Over the weekend, Bagg hit the stage at the 2021 BET Music Awards to perform a medley of Wockesha and his No. 1 song Time Today, which VIBE Magazine praised Moneybagg Yo gets the crowd turned up as he tears through his performance, delivering each line with the fervor and conviction heard on the actual record.” To date, A Gangsta’s Pain has cumulatively tallied over 300 million streams and counting. Meanwhile, Billboard, Complex, and UPROXX have already listed it as “Best Albums of 2021 So Far.”

A Gangsta’s Pain showcases Moneybagg’s versatility as an artist. He opens up with some of his most powerful tracks yet, but he also turns up with indisputable and inimitable bangers. Among those, it boasts singles such as the hard-hitting Shottas (Lala), platinum-selling Time TodayHard For The Next (feat. Future), and the recent anthem GO! (feat. BIG30). The 22-track opus earned widespread critical acclaim upon arrival. Billboard applauded his “authentic stories that connect to both the hearts and minds of the streets.”

Meanwhile, UPROXX observed, Moneybagg Yo steps out of his comfort zone to conquer A Gangsta’s Pain on his pensive new album.” Rolling Stone highlighted Certified Neptunes (feat. Pharrell) as a “Song You Need To Know.” Continuing his takeover, Moneybagg recently made his late-night television debut with an impressive medley of Time Today and Hard For The Next on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Bobby Brown is an American singer, songwriter, rapper, and dancer who has been dominating the music industry since the 1980s. Originally part of the R&B and pop group New Edition, Brown stepped out for a highly successful solo career in 1985. He’s known for his hits like Don’t Be Cruel and Every Little Step. His sound was influenced by musicians like Prince, Michael Jackson, and Marvin Gaye, which served him well as he went on to win Grammy Award and even cameo in Ghostbusters II, for which he contributed two songs on the soundtrack. He later married (and divorced) superstar singer Whitney Houston and wrote a tell-all book about his life, which was released shortly after her death. He has since returned his focus to his music, including performing once before with Keith Sweat at the Valentine’s Day Music Festival in Houston, TX.

Brown will appear opposite Keith Sweat, a fellow singer, producer, and R&B genius. He was also an important early figure in the new jack swing movement. Sweat’s career began in the 1970s and he has gone on to soar to new heights ever since. The musician honed his craft in his early years while he was a part of the music group Jamilah, before branching out as a solo artist in 1984. His collection of hits like I Want Her, Make You Sweat, and I’ll Give All My Love To You won him not only fans and fame but also awards recognizing his stellar R&B style. He eventually found himself working with other expert musicians again when he helped form the R&B supergroup LSG with Gerald Levert and Johnny Gill. He also discovered and supported other popular R&B groups like Silk and Kut Klose.

As a part of their showdown, the Essence Festival × Verzuz stage will feature an endless list of hits like Bobby Brown’s My Prerogative, Don’t Be Cruel, and Every Little Step, as well as Keith Sweat’s Nobody, Twisted, and Make It Last Forever. In other words, you’ll want to have all your best dance moves ready, folks.

Essence Festival of Culture x Verzuz is sponsored by Ciroc, Nike, and Coca-Cola.
