Blxst x Bino Rideaux

Just in time for Memorial Day Weekend, rising LA hip-hop artists Blxst and Bino Rideaux join forces on the release of their new single, “Movie.” Out now via Red Bull Records, “Movie” is the first single off the South Central artists’ highly anticipated release of Sixtape 2, the sequel to their 2019 collaborative mixtape.

“Me and Bino are like Shaq and Kobe, it’s only right we doubled back for part two to tear the summer up,” says Blxst of the release. “LA is looking good right now; we have to keep the torch lit.”

“When Sixtape dropped it felt like everything tha city needed that summer…from bad b*****s to street n****s to old folks and kids,” says Bino Rideaux. “Me and Blxst on a tracc together guaranteed to bring that vibe out you.”

Having been labeled as two of LA’s next up and coming talents, the single combines the R&B and hip-hop influences of both artists, boasting a quintessential West Coast sound that serves as the perfect soundtrack to kick off the summer season. Showcasing their incomparable chemistry, “Movie” allows both Blxst and Bino to flex their slick lyricism and penchant for instantaneously catchy melodies, setting the tone for what fans can expect from their forthcoming project.

Sixtape 2 is set for release this summer, stay tuned for more info.

Blxst began his solo music career in Los Angeles in 2015, rapping, singing, writing, and producing. From self-editing his videos and artwork to mixing and mastering his sound, he’s been on an unstoppable run, gaining notoriety for his productions and collaborations with Kendrick Lamar, YG, Eric Bellinger, Mustard, G Perico, Mozzy, and Kalan.FrFr.

Last year saw the release of his highly anticipated debut EP, No Love Lost, an expansive and emotive collection of music inspired by past relationships and his hometown of Los Angeles. Paired with a four-part cinematic series of videos to bring the project’s overarching narrative to life, its quintessential West Coast vibe received acclaim from fans, press, and tastemakers, cited by Pigeons & Planes as “one of the best projects of 2020.” Following this up with his first release of 2021, the two-track project Just For Clarity featuring Drakeo the Ruler and Russ, Blxst has solidified his position as the next must-watch musician out of LA. Receiving praise from Billboard, BET, Complex, Pitchfork, XXL, and more, in May 2021 Blxst was also announced as the latest Amazon Breakthrough artist.

With a one-two punch of laidback flows and hypnotic melodies, Bino Rideaux has quietly shaped the next era of West Coast hip-hop. Growing up in South Central, he crafted his 2015 independent project, Life Is Like A Movie, out of a D.I.Y. studio in his grandmother’s house. Gaining traction around L.A., he co-founded Out The Blue Records and dropped music at a prolific pace. Penned in the wake of his homie KP’s death, “100 Days 100 Nights” caught the attention of the late Nipsey Hussle. He featured on Nipsey’s tracks “Clarity” and “The Field” before they teamed up on the 2017 joint project No Pressure.

As his profile rose, Bino linked with Blxst on Sixtape in 2019 before unleashing his full-length debut, Outside, which boasted appearances by heavyweights such as Ty Dolla $ign, Fredo Bang, Mozzy, and BlueBucksClan. In addition to praise from Complex, LA Weekly, VICE, and more, UPROXX named it one of the “100 Best Albums of 2020.” Signing to Def Jam in partnership with Out The Blue, he only perfected his signature style on the likes of “Pride 2 The Side” and “BET” before igniting 2021 with the entrancing guitar-laden trip of “Incredible” [feat. Drakeo The Ruler]. Pegged as one of Rolling Stone’s “Breakthrough 25,” Billboard championed him among “6 LA Rappers to Watch in 2021” and went on to describe him as “the brightest star to emerge from that orbit.” Meanwhile, KAZI christened him “one of the West Coast’s most exciting new talents.”

Rob Kenner × Nipsey Hussle

Rob Kenner is one of the most prolific and influential voices in hip hop publishing and a founding editor of Vibe magazine.

After meeting Nipsey Hussle in the offices of Vibe, Kenner spent the next ten years tracking the life and career of the hip hop mogul, artist, and activist. THE MARATHON DON’T STOP: The Life and Times of Nipsey Hussle by Rob Kenner (Atria Books; Hardcover; March 23, 2021; $27.00; ISBN: 9781982140298) is the first in-depth biography of Nipsey Hussle, whose transformative legacy inspired a generation with his motivational lyrics and visionary business savvy—before he was tragically shot down two years ago, on March 31, 2019 in the very neighborhood he was dedicated to building up.

Combining on-the-ground reporting and candid interviews with Hussle’s friends, family, and peers, THE MARATHON DON’T STOP traces the life and work of an extraordinary artist, placing him in historical context and unpacking his complex legacy.

Some details of Hussle’s life that Kenner can discuss in an interview include:

  • Ermias Asghedom, before he was Nipsey Hussle, was a brilliant, soft-spoken, and underestimated young man who loved hip hop with a passion and was determined to build his own successful music label and clothing business—as well as other businesses that would employ many members of his community.
  • His life in the Crenshaw District starting in 1985, placing Hussle in historical context within the evolution of Hip Hop, Los Angeles, and America.
  • Hussle’s genius as a teenager who built his own computers and went on to push the envelope of technology in growing his businesses as well as innovating new revenue models for independent musicians that have since been adopted by the mainstream music industry
  • Hussle’s life-changing trip to Africa to visit his father’s family in Eritrea, as well as his little-known first meeting with Afeni Shakur, long before he called himself the ‘Tupac of My Generation’ or even took the rap name Nipsey Hussle.
  • Hussle’s impact as an activist, and his efforts to re-align L.A. gang culture with the mission of organizations like the Black Panthers…AND MORE.

Rob Kenner is one of the most prolific and influential voices in hip-hop publishing. A founding editor of Vibe, Kenner joined the start-up team of Quincy Jones’ groundbreaking hip hop monthly in 1992. During a nineteen-year run at Vibe he edited and wrote cover and feature stories on iconic cultural figures ranging from Tupac Shakur to Barack Obama as well as writing the acclaimed column Boomshots. Kenner’s writing has appeared in ComplexGeniusMass AppealPigeons & PlanesEgo TripPoetry magazine, The New York Times, and Billboard. He’s also produced and directed documentary shorts on the likes of De La Soul, Nas, and Post Malone. As an editor at Vibe Books, Kenner worked on the New York Times bestseller Tupac Shakur and contributed to The Vibe History of Hip Hop. He went on to co-author VX: 10 Years of Vibe Photography and produced the book Unbelievable, a biography of The Notorious B.I.G. by Cheo Hodari Coker Jr., which was optioned for the motion picture Notorious.

LOS ANGELES RAPPER DOM KENNEDY
ANNOUNCES HIGHLY ANTICIPATED FORTHCOMING

STUDIO ALBUM “FROM THE WESTSIDE WITH LOVE III”

One of Los Angeles most sought out rappers, Dom Kennedy announces his release of From the Westside With Love III which follows the success off of his first and second release of From the Westside With Love.

“From the Westside With Love” originally dropped as a mixtape in March 2010 and later in June 2011 came “From the Westside with Love II” which is the debut studio album for Dom Kennedy. The album features artists from Asher Roth, Mikey Rocks, Polyester, Big K.R.I.T., Casey Veggies, and Schoolboy Q. The album charted #19 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and #15 Billboard’s Independent Albums.

Dom Kennedy has taken over the rap game by storm by working with acts such as Kehlani, Big Sean, Hit-Boy, Nipsey Hussle, and more. With a forthcoming album set to release this Spring, Dom Kennedy is set to dominate 2021.

“When I decided to release the first From the Westside with Love in March 2010, I wanted to prove to myself that I could make a body of work that would reach way beyond just my neighborhood in Los Angeles,” says Dom Kennedy. “It was a gut check for me to show my love for the genre of rap and what I could possibly bring to it. A year later we dropped “From the Westside with Love II” which many believe to be one of my best efforts. At this point in my career, I’m still in love with making great rap music. I decided to cement my true legacy with another gift, From the Westside with Love III.

About Dom Kennedy:

Born in Los Angeles, CA, Dom Kennedy is an artist with a fiercely independent streak. With a style that pairs simple lyricism with a knack for narration, Kennedy took inspiration from rap legends such as DJ Quick, Tupac, and the Notorious B.I.G. Kennedy made his debut in 2008 with “25th Hour”, “From the Westside With Love” in 2010, and “The Original Dom Kennedy” in 2011. By this point, he had begun touring across the U.S. and internationally, playing a show in Djibouti, Africa. Not being able to find a fair deal to suit him, the talented MC instead started his own label, The OPM Company (Other People’s Money), which he has used to release his own albums as well as for others. “From the Westside With Love II” arrived in 2011 and was a success, hitting the top 100 of the Billboard 200 Album Chart. Kennedy shortly after released “The Yellow Album” with the lead single “My Type Of party”, this mixtape is regarded as an all-time favorite worldwide. From Kennedy himself, “my music has always been about evolution, results may vary but I have tried to remain responsible to what I was feeling at the time. I wouldn’t have lasted any amount of time without the fans, so I thank them. OPM till it’s over.”

Bino Rideaux Brand New

Bino Rideaux – Brand New

Today, Bino Rideaux releases the official lyric video for his single “Brand New,” via Def Jam Recordings.

Bino raps a complex story alongside an upbeat track, establishing an instantly catchy hit. The artist reveals the tension between his love interest and his lifestyle, questioning how compatible they truly are.

He tests his partner’s loyalty and reveals some of his own vulnerability with lines like, “Would you still be there, if I never had my dough up? / If I would seek visitation, would you show up?” While the overall positive sound celebrates new love, the lyrics reveal the inherent challenges of Bino’s situation.

This new single offers a window into Bino’s world, where he came from, and where he’s going. And judging from the success Bino’s had to this point, he’s only going up from here.

“Bino Rideaux has proven to be a staple West Coast artist over the years”

“L.A. rapper Bino Rideaux has been putting in the work in the area for a while now, earning co-signs from a lot of biggies including the late Nipsey Hussle”

“Bino, as well as Nip, let their bars do the talking.”

About Bino Rideaux

Success is a marathon, not a sprint. Bino Rideaux remembers a time when his dream seemed impossible. “I wanted to prove everybody wrong when nobody believed.” At 27, the Los Angeles rapper is a case study in the hustle, grinding on his own and acquiring cosigns from some of the biggest names on his coast.

Born Brandon Rainey, hip-hop was always on his mind. “It’s something that’s always interested me. I love music. I’ve always been the ‘rap nigga’ in my area.” He briefly lived in South Central as a teenager and remembers that time marked by the lure of the streets as well as hip-hop.

He was influenced by emotive artists like Young Thug and Nas. By 2014, he had a makeshift studio at his grandmother’s house, and that’s when things began to crystalize. “That’s when I started taking shit serious. That’s when it became a thing like, ‘This is where I’m going to be.’”

In 2015, he released Life Is Like A Movie, the first project that received local attention. “That’s the first time I had a team putting a project together. The response to it wasn’t as strong but it made me feel like, something can be done here.”

He signed to Out The Blue Records, an independent label he founded with friends. “It was organic,” he says. “I was doing what I love with my loved ones involved and making everybody in my section proud. I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

The track “100 Days 100 Nights” would be his breakout. “I lost a homie, KP. We made that track because a lot was going in the city. It was basically my hood versus the enemy’s hood.” The track resonated with one fan in particular: Nipsey Hussle.

Bino and Nipsey linked in the studio for “The Field” and “Clarity” in 2016 and 2017, respectively. “We kept rocking ever since.” Bino says that the relationship indelibly changed him. “That’s one of the most major parts that made me “me” today. I feel a lot different than I was prior to meeting bro.” He cites Nipsey’s business acumen and artistic inspiration, in particular. “He laid out the blueprint for me.” With that blueprint in hand, Bino Rideaux is ready to continue what he started. He signed with Def Jam Records in January 2020 and is excited to be a part of its legacy. “I want to be that LA dude that’s on Def Jam. A crazy success story.” He released “Pride 2 the Side,” a tribute to Nipsey, earlier this year and plans to drop two more projects.

He’s not sure how it’ll play out with the uncertainty of the times. He wants to solidify his name as well as build with Out The Blue. “As a label, we want to be a strong staple and almost landmark in the music industry. A household name with no smut and great business.” In that vein, he underscores his relentless approach and visceral sound. “My music is based on feelings. I want you to feel something. That’s really why I do this shit.”

Bino Rideaux Releases New Mixtape

Bino Rideaux has proven to be a staple West Coast artist over the years”

“L.A. rapper Bino Rideaux has been putting in the work in the area for a while now, earning co-signs from a lot of biggies including the late Nipsey Hussle”

“Bino, as well as Nip, let their bars do the talking.”

South Central L.A. rapper Bino Rideaux is on his way to becoming West Coast hip-hop’s next essential voice, as he releases “Outside,” his newest mixtape available today via Def Jam Recordings. Bino’s debut Def Jam mixtape builds on the momentum of his first pair of Def Jam single + video releases, “Brand New” featuring Blxst (immortalized in episode two of Bino’s YouTube series, Out The Blue), and “Bet.”

27-year old Bino Rideaux (born Brandon Rainey) is a case study in the hustle, grinding on his own and acquiring cosigns from some of the biggest names on his coast. Influenced by the lure of the streets and emotive artists like Young Thug and Nas, Bino first received local attention in 2015, with Life Is Like A Movie, recorded in a makeshift studio at his grandmother’s house. I feel a lot different than I was prior to meeting bro.”  HipHopDX chronicled their fateful meeting in the unforgettable “Bino Rideaux Recalls The Night He Met Nipsey Hussle Via Casey Veggies.”

With the blueprint of Nipsey’s business acumen and artistic inspiration in hand, Bino’s path was set.  He signed with Def Jam in January 2020, and “Pride 2 The Side,” his tribute to Nipsey, dropped in April. The track, LA Weekly wrote, “sees Rideaux genuinely struggling to make sense of Hussle’s death, lines like ‘now he’s lying with a hole in him’ recited with a sense of anguish. It’s particularly poignant, coming at a time when many of us are struggling with the concept of our own mortality.”  Meanwhile, “Brand New” and “Bet” followed within weeks, and “Outside” was put on the Def Jam scheduled to arrive on May 22nd.

Bino, for his part, is promoting his latest projects during the shutdown with a series of safe activations in Los Angeles, for example an interview with Travis Mills at Apple/Beats 1, which has been particularly supportive of Bino’s music. “Real pain, real emotion, and most importantly real stories in this record,” he told Complex. “It’s been a whole year since we lost our brother,” he wrote in the description for the song on SoundCloud. “Shit will never be the same #LLNH FOREVER!”

The sophomore year continues to embody the full essence of being on the west coast; it is for the west, by the west, in the west.  Last year the event hit capacity after selling 5,500 tickets – a stellar achievement for a first-year festival.

It was just one year ago when Nipsey Hussle headlined the first ever “Welcome To The West” music festival.  After his tragic death in early 2019, producers are planning a main stage tribute in his memory stating, “It was truly an honor to have had such an inspirational and socially impactful artist play as our first headliner. We look forward to celebrating Nipsey Hussle’s legendary musicianship and remembering his positive influence on others, as the music community and beyond continue in mourning his passing.”

“Welcome To The West” exclusively embraces west coast culture and lifestyle.  Everything present at the festival is homegrown and strictly related to the west coast—this includes the lineup.  Every artist, product and vendor at this festival is from the west coast—it’s the only premium, all-inclusive west coast music experience on the market.  Ice Cube, Los Angeles resident, will be headlining the event. Other artists on the lineup include: Roddy Rich, Dom Kennedy, Too Short, DJ Quik, King Lil G,  and Malaynah, among others.

Cabana Life Concerts has been in operation for 3 years, hosting over 70 shows in that timeframe.  Cabana has worked with multiple arenas and nightclubs on both a domestic and international scale. They have worked with the likes of Gucci Mane and Ty Dolla $ign; if they’re in hip hop, Cabana Life has worked with them.

From legends past, present, and future, fans can catch them performing LIVE at the 2nd annual “Welcome To The West” Music Festival.  It’s more than music—it’s a brand, a culture, and a lifestyle.
