JUDY – A Garland Fragrance

To commemorate one of the greatest Hollywood icons, Vince Spinnato held the legendary Judy Garland 100th Birthday Gala and Fragrance Reveal. Known as a perfume developer and cosmetic chemist, Vince held the event to celebrate the upcoming unisex scent: JUDY – A Garland Fragrance.

The aroma was created in honor of Judy’s rich history and legacy. Her children, Liza Minnelli, Lorna Luft and Joey Luft, attended the gala to further memorialize their mother’s impact on the industry and world.

A custom-made design was invented for Judy’s bottle that showcases a passionate, dreamy theme. The exclusive 100th birthday collector’s bottle was revealed on the night and even up for grabs. The official release of the fragrance is slated for this autumn.

Throughout the evening, the venue exuded elegance. From the “Get Happy! Exhibit” to the House of Racanelli fashion show, attendees were immersed in chunks of Judy history. Her renowned Oscar was exhibited to further showcase the star that Judy truly was and forever will be.

Judy was not only an icon in the entertainment industry, but, too, as an activist for the queer community. With the celebration being held on June 10, it was perfectly aligned with LA Pride weekend. Additionally, the soiree served as a special commemoration for LGBTQ+ cohorts. Lastly, Garland was born during Pride month; and ironically, she passed on the same day as the Stonewall riots in NYC.

In short, the evening served to pay tribute to the work that Judy has accomplished in her career, but also to defend a broader mission.

The Meaning Behind Memorial Day

THE MEANING BEHIND MEMORIAL DAY

By: Heather Skovlund-Reibsamen

“How important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes and she-roes.” – Maya Angelou

Memorial Day, once referred to as Decoration Day, is an American holiday in the United States that honors military personnel along as well as mourn those that we have lost along the way. Decoration Day was for decorating graves with flowers, wreaths, and flags. Memorial Day is formerly observed on the last Monday of May each year. It is a solemn day, but it is also important to reflect upon, appreciate and be thankful for the freedom that we all get to enjoy every day in the United States of America.

Many gather with friends and family for barbeques and celebrating the beginning of summer while others visit cemeteries and memorials to remember their loved ones lost. Each year a national moment of remembrance takes place at 3:00 p.m. local time on Memorial Day. It is important to remember that we are not celebrating the wars, instead we are remembering those who served and those who gave their last breath in order to ensure that the freedoms of our country would be passed on to the next generations. We remember for the price they paid for the cost of our freedom – their lives given so ours could go on.

Memorial Day was originated after the American Civil War, where the United States faced the task of burying and honoring 600,000 to 800,000 Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the bloodiest military conflict in American history. The first commemoration of Memorial Day was held in Arlington National Cemetery on May 30, 1868. On this day, both Union and Confederate soldiers were laid to rest. Over the years, cities across the United States host Memorial Day parades that involve military personnel and members of veterans’ organizations. Americans sometimes wear a red poppy in remembrance of their loved ones, which is a tradition that was born from a World War 1 poem.

In Flanders Fields” by John McCrae

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Memorial Day has a different meaning behind it for every American. Here at 360 Magazine, we were able to get a few opinions from veterans in the United States.

  • Kyle Skovlund: United States Air Force – Memorial Day has a different meaning for me. Growing up, my parents would travel to Brookings, South Dakota each year to put flowers on the graves of those they had lost. When my own daughter passed away, I began doing the same thing. Memorial Day, for me, is a day to reflect on those that have been lost.
  • Michael Miller: United States Air Force – Memorial Day means remembering and celebrating. Remembering the great men and women that gave their life for our great nation and celebrating the freedoms their sacrifices have given us.
  • J.M. Skovlund: United States Army  – “Memorial Day means exactly what it was intended for, to remember and honor our fallen. They went above and beyond for our country, for the soldier on their left and right, and that’s something not everyone can say.” “Go out and remember the fallen the way you see fit. Don’t worry about what everyone else is doing. If it’s having a drink in their honor, do that. If it’s going to their grave to chat, do that. Either way, remember the fallen the best way you can, don’t disgrace them.”

U.S. Soccer Foundation’s “It’s Everyone’s Game!” 25th Anniversary Celebration

Nearly 500 supporters of the U.S. Soccer Foundation came together at the Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles – on the pitch of Major League Soccer’s LAFC – Monday evening to commemorate the organization’s achievements of growing the game and providing youth recreation opportunities in underserved communities throughout its 25-year history.

The U.S. Soccer Foundation’s 25th anniversary celebration featured many of the women and men who have been a part of the organization throughout its history and supporters from the most storied soccer teams in American history, including members of the “‘99ers,” the World Cup-winning 1999 U.S. Women’s National Team. The Foundation and its supporters also used the 25th anniversary celebration to highlight the contributions of five national leaders who are bringing soccer to underserved communities nationwide.

“We’ve been honored to play a role in the phenomenal growth of the game in the United States,” said Ed Foster-Simeon, President & CEO of the U.S. Soccer Foundation. “Sport has existed for millennia because there’s a payoff for everyone who plays – not just those who make it to the very top. Mastery of soccer skills builds confidence and self-esteem. The game teaches teamwork and leadership. We look forward to the next 25 years as we continue to make soccer everyone’s game.”

EBIE PAYS TRIBUTE TO FATHER/GANGSTER RAPPER, EAZY-E

In honor of his birthday, Eric “Eazy-E” Wright, daughter Ebie collaborates with famed photographer Mike Miller to recapture similar photos for both daughter and father to share.

In tribute of what would have been Eazy-E’s 53rd Birthday on September 7th, 2017, Ebie states:

“I usually try to do a tribute to my father on his death anniversary but something about his birthday just seemed more fitting this year. I called on none other than Mike Miller who is responsible for shooting some of my dad’s most classic pictures to help me bring my “Eazy-E inspired” vision to life. Mike is phenomenal and I just felt chills imagining how it was on the days he and my father got out in the streets and got creative together. 22 years later and it still hasn’t gotten any Eazier but today is a celebration … Happy Birthday dad!! I know you’re watching over me and I’ll forever continue to be Ruthless.” – Ebie

Having photographed many major-label album covers from various genres, Mike Miller has become a famed photographer/director. He has worked with various other musical acts including Tupac, A$AP Rocky, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, YG and Eazy-E, and is currently working with Ferrari and collaborating withRetna, Shepard Fairey. A number of Mikeߣs previous clients include&#a0;Angelina Jolie, Jack Nicholson, Cameron Diaz, James Franco, Sony, Nicole Richie, Nike, Puma, MTV Video Awards, Coca~Cola, and Stussy.

unnamed (4)Mike Miller has recently made headlines after allegedly suing The Kardashian Clan: Kylie and Kendall Jenner for the use his photos of Tupac Shakur without his permission.

Mike recently collaborated with Ebie to create an “Eazy-E” inspired photoshoot to pay tribute to the rapper’s birthday. While working with Ebie, Mike shared:

“Wow… Ebie is just awesome. Being a DJ and photographing musicians for 30 years her dad was one of my all-time favorite people to shoot as well as one of my all time favorite rappers. I felt an immediate connection with Ebie, having daughters of my own saddens me that he’s not around to see his grow. We had a blast…. Happy Birthday Eazy.”

In Mike Miller’s book “West Coast Hip-Hop: A History in Pictures”, Mike shared what it was like working with the legendary rapper:

“I consider myself very fortunate to have photographed Eazy, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Ren , Yella and Arabian Prince. First time “The Source Magazine” asked me to head out to a Culver City recording studio to shoot NWA. Eazy greeted me and showed me around the studio. Gold and platinum records lined the walls. Eazy played me tracks off the new Album, outing the final touches before it was release. I shot some cool solo images of Eazy outside. There was a giant American Flag blowing in the wind and I photographed him in the afternoon sunlight. Another shoot for Eazy was at Ruthless Records. While waiting for Eazy to arrive I pulled out my skateboard and began skating in the parking lot. Eazy pulled up in his new BMW. He grabbed a deck out of his trunk. The artwork was my friend Natas signature board. We talked skateboarding for a bit, he was really into it. Since I grew up skateboarding and liking NWA, I was stoked. Then we did some photos with his car. It seemed a little boring so I added color filters over my lens. We talked about his new projects and planned some upcoming photo shoots.”
