Chuck Costas, VP of Business Development & Operations for Prop Store, commented on the upcoming auction: “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D was an innovative series that brought together an original S.H.I.E.L.D team with Marvel favorites from the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe and pages of Marvel Comics.  We’re excited to offer Marvel fans a curated selection of the most iconic props and costumes from the greatest moments in all seven seasons of this classic television series.  It’s amazing to see some of these gadgets and costumes in person… and now we’re giving people a chance to own them!”

Mike Pasciullo, SVP, Marvel Marketing and Communications, spoke about the upcoming auction: “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was not only our first live action television series, it’s also Marvel Television’s longest running television series. This show was truly made for the fans and it has been the fans’ support and excitement that has allowed us to have seven amazing seasons. I cannot imagine a better way to celebrate that fandom than by giving everyone a chance to add authentic pieces of this ground breaking series to their cherished collections.”

Operating since 1998, Prop Store founder Stephen Lane’s love for movies led him to begin hunting for the same props and costumes that were used to create his favorite films. He found that he could not only provide collectors with access to their most coveted pieces, but also establish archival standards for a new, pop-culture hybrid of fine art and memorabilia collecting – prop art. Prop Store handles prop disposal, sale, archive and auction services to production companies and distributors as well as fixed price item sale on its website.

TELLY AWARDS

Summers Strategies Wins Three Coveted Telly Awards Honoring Excellence in Video and Advertising

National strategic communications and marketing firm Summers Strategies won three coveted Telly Awards for video advertising and social media campaigns on behalf of not-for-profit organizations across the country last year.

Founded in 1979, the Telly Awards honors video and television made for all screens and is judged by The Telly Award Judging Council; a group of leading video and television experts from some of the most prestigious companies in entertainment, publishing, advertising, and emerging technology.

Summers, a national company with deep roots and offices in suburban Washington, D.C., and Las Vegas, Nevada, received the news this morning.

The awards were for three campaigns representing the diversity of the firm’s clients. They were:

A Silver award for Local TV General-Political Issues/Campaign Advertising for “Virginia’s Superpower,” a 30-second ad on behalf of Energy Foundation promoting clean energy policies. You can watch the ad here.

A Silver award for Social Video Series-Not for Profit for the San Diego-Imperial County International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 569 highlighting the benefits of union membership. Watch the five-part series here.

A Bronze award for Local TV General-Public Interest/Awareness for a 30-second PSA for the New York State Association of Counties highlighting how county workers are the heroes in responding to the coronavirus pandemic. Watch it here.

“These ads and social media videos were held up against some of the biggest names in our industry, so this recognition means a lot to our team,” Jon Summers, president of Summers Strategies, said. “But  beyond that, these awards also make it clear that you don’t need an endless budget to produce content that moves people and delivers results. Since we work with a lot of clients who have limited budgets to drive major changes in the world, that’s important.”

Summers Strategies also won a Bronze award in 2017 for branded content produced for the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.

Among the past winners of the Telly Awards are some of the world’s largest and most influential communications companies, including Bloomberg, CBS Interactive, Comcast, Condé Nast, DC Entertainment, Discovery Communications, Disney, ESPN, Fox, HBO, Hearst, Microsoft, MLB, NBC, PBS, The Guardian, The History Channel, Time Warner, Universal, Univision, Viacom and Vice+. View the winners of the 41st Annual Telly Awards winners at www.tellyawards.com/winners.

About the Telly Awards

Claude Lévi-Strauss Biography

Academic, writer, figure of melancholy, aesthete – Claude Lévi-Strauss (1908-2009) not only transformed his academic discipline, he also profoundly changed the way that we view ourselves and the world around us.

In this award-winning biography, historian Emmanuelle Loyer recounts Lévi-Strauss’s childhood in an assimilated Jewish household, his promising student years as well as his first forays into political and intellectual movements. As a young professor in 1935 Lévi-Strauss left Paris for São Paulo to teach sociology. His rugged expeditions into the Brazilian hinterland, where he discovered the Amerindian Other, made him into an anthropologist. The racial laws of the Vichy regime would force him to leave France yet again — this time for the US in 1941, where he became Professor Claude L. Strauss, to avoid confusion with the jeans manufacturer.

His return to France, after the war, ushered in the period during which he produced his greatest works: several decades of intense labour in which Lévi-Strauss reinvented anthropology, establishing it as a discipline that offered a new view on the world. In 1955, Tristes Tropiques offered indisputable proof of this the world over. During those years, Lévi-Strauss became something of a national monument, a celebrity intellectual in France. But he always claimed his perspective was a “view from afar,” enabling him to deliver incisive and subversive diagnoses of our waning modernity.

Loyer’s outstanding biography tells the story of a true intellectual adventurer whose unforgettable voice invites us to rethink questions of the human and the meaning of progress. Lévi-Strauss was less of a modern than he was our own great and disquieted contemporary.

The Author

Emmanuelle Loyer is Professor of Contemporary History at Sciences-Po, Paris. Her biography of Lévi-Strauss was awarded the Prix Femina essai in 2015.

Reviews

“The inspiration that continues to spring forth from the work of Lévi-Strauss is a mystery to many anthropologists. He has told us of the many influences on his work and commentators have argued for yet others but they don’t really account for his extraordinary originality and independence. Emmanuelle Loyer’s thorough account of his life and work may help us resolve this wonderful puzzle.”  – Maurice Bloch, London School of Economics

“Emmanuelle Loyer has produced a meticulously-researched, intelligent, and sensitive biography worthy of her subject, one of the greatest Francophone intellectuals of the 20th century. Critical yet generous, her portrait of Claude Lévi-Strauss rings true and comes alive on the page.” – Michael Harkin, University of Wyoming

BUTCHER BAKER, THE RIGHTEOUS MAKER

Joe Casey and Mike Huddleston’s BUTCHER BAKER, THE RIGHTEOUS MAKER is back with a new, trade paperback edition available this November. The paperback will collect the complete series, issues #1-8, plus feature bonus material.

Butcher Baker was the preeminent all-American superhero. Now he’s…getting laid. A lot. But one last mission could signal his return to glory, and now he’s back on the blacktop! BUTCHER BAKER, THE RIGHTEOUS MAKER is a balls-out, surreal, super-epic that fans won’t want to miss.

“We took our time putting this work out in trade, but I promise it’s worth the wait. It’s a thick, girthy slice of comic book manna that I’m extremely proud of,” said Casey. “It’s superheroes at their seediest. It’s a psychedelic landmine that I guarantee will blow your head clean off. In a good way, of course.”

BUTCHER BAKER, THE RIGHTEOUS MAKER (ISBN: 978-1-5343-0333-1, Diamond Code MAR178439) will hit stores on Wednesday, November 15th. The final order cutoff deadline for retailers is Monday, October 9th.

It will be available in bookstores on Tuesday, November 21st and can be pre-ordered on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Indiebound, and Indigo.

“…the only superhero comic that ends with its protagonist sporting a raging boner.” —Comics Bulletin
