Lil Moe 6Blocka teams up with his longtime friend and mentor Rooga on SCRAPPERS. In advance of the mixtape’s release, the Chicago rappers shared the gritty first single, Get You Wacked. Produced by C-Sick, one of the pioneering producers of the Windy City’s drill scene, the track bristles with bravado and sly wordplay, announcing the duo’s auspicious arrival and establishing them as a force to be reckoned with.

The official video follows Moe and Rooga through the streets of Chicago over the course of a night that’s filled with camaraderie and tragedy. The music video was directed and produced by Billy Kauck, who has lensed many of Moe’s videos.

Moe is a disciple of drill rap who spits bars with unparalleled charisma, defying skeptics and the status quo. Just 16, he’s been on his own since age 11. A friend and collaborator of the late rapper Dooski, Moe has established himself as the voice of a new generation in Chicago with high-octane hits like Risky (named “one of the best hip-hop songs of 2021” by HipHopDx and later making waves with a remix featuring 22Gz), Leave Em StretchedNothinIon KnowWhat I Say and 6Blocka. Rooga has been a lynchpin of the Chicago rap scene since the release of his acclaimed 2016 tape, I Am Scrapp. After losing too many loved ones to gun violence, he became a community activist.

SCRAPPERS is a powerful testament to the importance of mentorship, and features a blend of stirring drill beats, earworm melodies and an easy rapport that demonstrates the strength of their connection. The mixtape’s title is multi-faceted metaphor. It’s a nod of respect to Rooga’s little brother “Scrapp” and others they’ve lost, heartbreaking experiences that have left Moe and Rooga as the scraps, the remaining fragments. And it’s about scrapping, doing what you need to do to overcome.

Both Moe and I have been losing friends, losing brothers, and were tied by that bond,” explains Rooga. “Its hard to cope with it. I have times when I just break down. When I get in the studio, I have to speak to it because its the only way people will understand us. Theres an emotional side to Chicago rap beyond just drill shit. We love drill, but we can be more than that.” Moe puts it directly: “The most important thing Rooga told me was that the streets ain’t about nothing.

Moe and Rooga have taken different paths, but they’ve come to the same conclusion: Rap is both the best way to remember those they’ve lost, and to try to prevent that pain from happening again.

Gavin James, whose unassuming authenticity and songcraft have earned him 1.5 billion combined global streams and 32 international Platinum or Gold certifications, returns with his first new music of 2021: Sober. The single asks the timeless question: is this love fueled by intoxication or is it based on something more substantial?

Sober is a song about being in love with someone and then in the morning they all of a sudden don’t love you back,” explains Gavin James. “It’s pretty much about the sobering reality that you are not for them, and you’re left alone replaying the relationship in your head … so you’re sad about it and you sing it real loud with a piano.

New Zealand’s highest streaming rock band, Written By Wolves, have announced their new EP The Collab Project due September 17 (self-release). Singer, Songwriter, and Multi-Instrumentalist To Release New Album Ascend June 25

American Idol Semi-Finalist, Leslie Hunt, is not your typical vocalist. The captivating rise of Leslie Hunt, also District 97’s lead-singer, continues with Ascend, her brand new and exquisite solo Album with 7 enchanting tracks.

While exploring meditation, codependency, self-love and self-trust, loving others unconditionally, and many other rites of passage for an adult in constant pursuit of expansion, Leslie tells us that this album was written in a short span of time and greatly inspired by a series of new perspectives she had been cultivating throughout her years in the music industry, and her new guitar, a Gibson 60’s J-45.

On asking about what genre this album fit into, and whether or not it borrows from multiple forms, “I never question the muse when it visits and this body or work required a very natural sounding approach, like something you would hear coming out of Nashville, using rich, warm textures, and not a lot of extra production.” The singer songwriter finds it hard to classify her music, “but this album has a pretty classic rock feel to it, also incorporating some Americana vibes, in addition to the usual vulnerability you can expect from my music.”

  • Leslie states her upcoming EPs are her best work yet, “I’m very proud of how it came together, and the songs are a time capsule of my mindset in the spring and summer of 2019. I named it Ascend because I recorded it before everything was put on hold. The future seemed limitless, like a plane taking off into the sky with no concrete plan to come back down…  Then covid changed everything. We had to land, and we had no idea how long we were going to have to stay on the ground. My second EP is called Descend (coming out September 3) and it is another set of seven songs, all written during the pandemic and very thematically centered around what we were all going through, but through the lens of a person whose entire profession disappeared when people stopped gathering in groups.”

About Leslie Hunt

A multi-talented and multi-instrumentalist since the age of four, Leslie has captivated millions of people with her songs. With three amazing solo albums under her belt and four studio albums and several live albums as a vocalist and songwriter for the progressive rock band District 97, Leslie’s successes from both her solo career as well as District 97’s have led to many tours in North America and Europe. As a result, Leslie has gained a multitude of fans worldwide.

As a solo artist, Hunt holds regular performances, enchanting rooms large and small with nothing but a piano and her voice. She also has a full backing band for shows that are less intimate, yet still wholly riveting.

Throughout her career, Leslie has worked with numerous established talents, including drummer Vinnie Colaiuta (Frank Zappa, Joni Mitchell, and Sting), bassist Vail Johnson (Stevie Nicks and Herbie Hancock), and Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s cellist Katinka Klein. Ultimately, what sets her apart is that she straddles two extremes: a witty, bouncy pop artist in brightly colored dresses who is pitted against her darker self, a sensual and piano-crouched exhibitionist. Whether it is a cheerful, hook-heavy pop tune about love or a dark and insightful ballad of self-discovery, Hunt’s music is a window into her soul for any listener willing to look.

WUTI Crush Palace present the first of the Sounds of Summer films at Exposition Park in Los Angeles with Stop Making Sense by Talking HeadsStop Making Sense is considered to be one of the greatest concert films ever made, shot at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre in 1983 by Director Jonathan Demme. Kinetic, uplifting, intelligent but unpretentious, joyous but never pandering – on its release audiences danced through the aisles. The film famously opens with frontman David Byrne, his guitar and boombox, then proceeds to build the staging, and the band (including founding members bassist Tina Weymouth & drummer Chris Frantz and a show-stopping cadre of backup singers) towards an ecstatic conclusion.

Stop Making Sense at Exposition Park (South Lawn, 500 Exposition Park Dr, Los Angeles, CA 90037) is a once in a lifetime opportunity for lovers of cinema who want to feel the excitement of large scale in-person events again. The Sounds of Summer series is for all of us that have missed the experience of shared music over the past year. Now that we can finally be in-person S.O.S. brings the finest musically driven, landmark cinema to screens for us to celebrate together! Each Sounds of Summer event is set to be a unique experience with director conversations, featured talent, guest DJs, and unexpected happenings.

My Friend’s Place is a non-profit that has been assisting and inspiring youth experiencing homelessness to build self-sufficient lives for over 33 years. From their early beginnings as a volunteer-based group, to the dynamic resource centre that they operate today, My Friend’s Place offers a comprehensive continuum of services to nearly 1,200 youth experiencing homelessness between the ages of 12 and 25, and their children, each year, helping them move toward wellness, stability and self-sufficiency.
