A Model’s Guide

Listen to Jarel ‘Jay’ Jordan chat with Vaughn Lowery on the 360 MAG Amazon / Spotify podcast HERE.

Jay Jordan, an emerging model, breaks back onto the scene with professionalism, pride and perseverance. After modeling during a NYFW SS23 presentation at Daylight Studio for Terry Singh, he has a zoom chat with Move Like Water × Be Fluid author Vaughn Lowery.

Even though Jordan just signed a deal with esteemed One Management, he understands he wants to prove his inner demons wrong. When he talks to Lowery, he begins to realize that he needs to keep doing things differently. They talk about self-care, punctuality, personal touch, spending time alone with your booker so you can stay in their minds.

Since the lockdown as a result of COVID-19, the industry has suffered greatly from models and agents who have lost their jobs. In fact, The Industry Model Management closed the doors of their Miami office during the two-year hiatus.

With spellbinding eyes, good bone structure in tandem with natural hair, Jordan could well be what the advertising and fashion sector needs to help rebuild their monarchy.

Special thanks to Nobis and New York Men’s Day (NYMD).

During the engagement, 360’s Swarovski encrusted bottle, made in collaboration with Integrity Bottles and Good Vibe Gliders, will be forged on Solana with partial proceeds donated to a charity. 360, freshly announced pet NFT, apace with Reebok’s Looney Tunes footwear, will go to a handful of lucky guests with Best Tech Style. Ashley Jones explains to Vaughn Lowery about her sessions with Dr. Cheyenne Bryant via 360 MAGAZINE and their 360 MAG Podcast on Spotify

MTV TEEN MOM

Listen to Dr. Cheyenne Bryant, Ashley Jones chat w/ Vaughn Lowery on 360 MAG Podcast HERE.

Teen Mom has become a mental health pitstop for adolescent parents. Dr. Bryant attended Teen Mom Family Reunion, where she helped her fellow mothers, who are primarily people who had a child at the age of 15 or 16 and had lost their sense of self, navigate their trauma and troubles by directing them on a determined journey of finding who they are both internally and externally.

Dr. Cheyenne Bryant, who is renowned for reviving MTV’s Teen Mom, is a life Coach and esteemed author of the acclaimed Mental Detox, a book helping people detox their minds and find their sense of self. By describing everyone’s life as a garden, in which people plant and nurture everything by themselves following their own choices, she has redefined her field of psychology with newfound confidence and non-traditional garb.

At the forefront of confrontation, Ashley Jones in Teen Mom 2’s explains how her baby father/husband Bar decided to seek help for their codependency issues. In addition, she asserts that her family disowned and kicked her out of the house once they discovered she was having a baby out of wedlock with a person whose social status was not recognized by her family at that time. As a kid growing up in a wealthy family and community with great education opportunities, being homeless with no job or financial support is a chord that struck inside of her. After going through the mud together, Ashley and Bar have learned how to fully lean each other healthily. The special and unique relationship between them is where they both get their love, strength, and motivation from.

Years later, with the guidance of Dr. Bryant, Ashley acknowledges that her negative curve of self-neglect with the inability to love herself fully is the result of her childhood trauma which comes from being torn between two extreme living circumstances. The inconsistent values brought by two completely different living environments had made Ashley lose herself. For trying to constantly appease everyone, Dr. Bryant labeled the situation as a hybrid of someone co-existing in between a living street life and high society.

Now, after years of experiencing internal struggle with raising a child, Ashley has figured out where her real passion is. As an emerging entrepreneur, Ashley continues to study nursing on a collegiate level and owns a thriving salon, Aries Beauty Studio. At the same time, she is also starting a non-profit organization that is aimed to provide young pregnant girls who are disowned or confused with housing and other resources. This past October, Ashley shared a post on her Instagram page announcing that she and her friend got their long-awaited company sign on the front of the business: “WE DID IT JOE!!! Seeing the sign go up makes this feel official,” Ashley wrote as her caption. In the near future, she plans on providing a med spa service as an aesthetic doctor for women of color. She relays, “It’s a niche market that’s been overlooked.”

Lastly, Ashley and her friend Jessica T. record daily podcasts in which they talk about society and culture. I Need Wine explores everything from relationships, sex, parenting, trauma and careers. As Ashely and Jessica state: ‘Two women, talking over wine and being raw and honest about things that women go through and how we manage to stay sane (or not) through it all!’

Michael Jackson’s Thriller album turns 40 via 360 MAGAZINE

Four Decads of Thriller

Sony Music and the Estate of Michael Jackson announced that it will celebrate the 40th anniversary of Michael Jackson’s Thriller. The biggest selling album of all time.

The November 18 release of Michael Jackson Thriller 40 is a double CD set comprised of Michael’s original masterpiece Thriller. The second disc will be full of surprises for fans. It will include never-released tracks which were worked on by Michael for the Thriller album. To date, the album has amassed in excess of 100 million in sales worldwide.

In the US, Walmart will have an exclusive version of the original Thriller album with an alternate 40th anniversary cover, while Target will have an exclusive version of the original album with a commemorative Thriller 40 vinyl slip mat.  Both of these will also be available outside the US from various retailers.

Mastered from the original analog master tapes, Mobile Fidelity will also make available the original Thriller album as a One-Step 180g 33RPM LP, pressed at RTI and strictly limited to 40,000 numbered copies as well as a hybrid SACD . (An UltraDisc One-Step 180g 45RPM 2LP set of Thriller will be released at a future date.)

Visit HERE for further information and to Pre-Order.

Several activations are planned between now and the end of the year to honor Michael’s epic creation which won a record setting 8 Grammys, smashed musical barriers and changed the frontiers of pop music and videos forever.  Michael Jackson’s Thriller has spent more than 500 weeks on the Billboard album chart and has sold over 100 million albums since its release on November 30, 1982. The first such activation is the first drop of new merchandise featuring the special Thriller 40 logo which is now available exclusively through the MichaelJackson.com Official Site.

MORE ABOUT THRILLER:

Thriller holds a modern-day record of 37 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard. It was the first album in history to spend each of its first 80 weeks in the album chart’s Top 10, a feat only reached by one other album in the nearly four decades since. During its 112th week on Billboard’s album chart, it became the first title ever to be certified RIAA 20X multi-Platinum (October 30, 1984) and became the first title ever to be certified more than RIAA 30X multi-Platinum in 2015 and since has been certified at 34x Multi-Platinum.

Worldwide, Thriller went to #1 in practically every country in the world, including the UK, France, Italy, Australia, Denmark, Belgium, South Africa, Spain, Ireland, New Zealand, Canada and apartheid South Africa and remains the biggest selling album of all time with sales in excess of 100 million.  Seven tracks from the album became Top 10 singles, and three, Beat It, Billie Jean, and Thriller, went No. 1.

The music on Thriller was so singular for the time it defied any definition of rock, pop or soul that had gone before. Beat It was a new kind of pop-rock hybrid and demolished the longstanding segregation between black and white music with Eddie Van Halen’s incendiary guitar. On The Girl Is Mine, two men, one white and one Black, banter about the same girl. On the same album were songs like the African-rooted Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin and the rhythm and blues-based Billie Jean.

Michael set out to revolutionize how to tell a story and entertain on a grand scale through film but faced roadblocks. Despite the luscious cinematography, dramatic narrative and spectacular choreography of Billie Jean, a fledgling MTV, which was programming white rock artists almost exclusively, refused to play it. Epic persisted. Once the wall came crashing down, MTV’s ratings soared and a door was opened for a generation of African American artists. “He was MTV’s Jackie Robinson,” said cultural critic Touré.

Next, came the unforgettable short film for Beat It, which featured Michael bringing two gangs together through the power of music and dance. And then there was Thriller. Premiered at the AVCO Theatre in Los Angeles in 1983, it sold out every night for three weeks. No other video before or since has generated such excitement and has such a hold on our attention, such that 40 years later we all share it as a collective memory and it remains the only music video to be inducted into the elite National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.

Music from Thriller and other hit albums are featured in the Vegas show Michael Jackson ONE, at the Michael Jackson ONE Theater at Mandalay Bay as well as the acclaimed Broadway play MJ The Musical at the Neil Simon Theatre in NYC, which was nominated for 10 Tony Awards. Michael Jackson One by Cirque du Soleil is an electrifying fusion of dance as well as acrobatics which wows audiences. Powered by his greatest hits in a state-of-the-art surround sound atmosphere. ONE takes the audience on a visual expedition–63 overly artistic dancers engaged in extensive choreography.

Michael has sold more than 1 billion records and remains one of the top streaming artists of all time.

Don’t Freak Out During Tick Season

By: Sandra Lee, CEO, NJ Labs

Ticks are a year-long issue, but the season for ticks peaks from April to October. Are you ready for tick season? Do not ignore it. Do not freak out.

What was once a regional issue has now become a national problem because of the migration of these bugs and the increasing frequency in which people travel and spend time outdoors. When it comes to ticks, most people are concerned about being infected with Lyme disease, a bacterial infection caused by the bacterium Borrelia Burgdorferi that is transmitted to humans through the bite of blacklegged or deer ticks. Lyme Disease is an inflammatory disease that if left untreated can lead to possible arthritis and neurological and cardiac disorders. The CDC estimates that there are about 300,000 cases of Lyme Disease per year, with more than 96% concentrated in the Northeast and upper Midwestern United States. However, there are many other tick species across the United States that also spread disease and cause virus-like symptoms including headaches, fever, fatigue, chills and muscle aches. This makes tick testing crucial, so you know the tick that bit you. Tick testing is a proactive measure to take that can help a doctor or veterinarian determine the best course of action to treat a tick-borne pathogen.

Be Aware of the Tick Types

Before learning more about tick testing, it is important to know the kinds of tick you or your pet may come across. The known species of ticks in the United States that bite and transmit diseases include:

Tick Prevention

You may encounter a tick during everyday activities. Tick populations tend to be in elevated, wooded and grassy areas where creatures they feed on live. However, they can also be found in populated urban areas and coastal locations. Ticks enjoy moist and humid environments, like wood piles, leaf piles and litter, bird feeders, or fallen and low-hanging branches. Some ticks are also found in homes, such as the Brown Dog Tick and Soft ticks. To prevent the at-home ticks from entering your home be sure to keep lawn grasses low, eliminate leaf litter and distribute gravel to create a zone that prevents ticks from coming in. Additionally, here are some tips to prevent tick bites:

  • Avoid direct contact with ticks by avoiding wooded and grassy areas; and if hiking, stay near the center of trails.
  • Dress appropriately with long pants and long sleeves, and ensure the clothing has been pretreated with permethrin, or spray 0.5% permethrin on clothing.
  • Immediately take a shower after coming home from outdoors, and check for ticks on body, gear and pets.
  • Tumble dry clothes on high heat for 10 minutes to kill any ticks.
  • Use monthly flea and tick medications for pets as recommended by your veterinarian.

Tick Testing Peace of Mind

There are specific steps to take if you or your pet get bit by a tick. When removing the tick, you must be cautious because the way the tick is removed can affect whether or not a pathogen-positive tick’s disease will be transmitted to you or your pet’s bloodstream. To safely remove a tick, use plastic tweezers to grasp the tick, pull the tick upward with steady pressure, and thoroughly clean and disinfect the bite area. Do not use metal cosmetic tweezers that could damage the tick or the skin.  After the tick is removed, do not burn, freeze or squeeze the tick. Make sure to monitor the affected area for signs of infection. Immediately send the tick into a lab that uses a DNA-based method to test for common tick-borne pathogens, including Lyme disease.

Having a tick test and sample collection kit can make this process easier, especially if you are on vacation or outdoors. For peace of mind, and to be sure about the tick that bit you, I recommend including a Tick SURE kit to your first-aid kit. The Tick SURE kit includes simple directions on how to remove a tick along with plastic tweezers and safe packaging for the tick to be sent in a pre-paid, first-class envelope that is delivered to the FDA and DEA inspection lab for full identification and testing. Once the tick arrives at the lab, the tick’s DNA is extracted to identify the species, then tested for the different pathogens it may carry. Having a tick test and sample collection kit on hand will alleviate unnecessary stress if you come in contact with a tick because you will know what to do with it. At the same time, you send the tick in for testing, make an appointment with your doctor or veterinarian if you or your pet are not experiencing any symptoms. Sometimes symptoms do not show up until later, but the sooner you can get checked out the quicker you can be treated. Having the lab results of the tick in hand will help the doctor determine the best course of action.

What Does A Positive Test Mean?

If the tick test results from the lab come back positive, don’t panic. A positive tick test does not mean that you or your pet have the disease; a positive tick test just means the pathogen in the tick has been detected. If you are diagnosed with Lyme disease early, doctors can use antibiotics to get rid of the disease within the first 14 days after transmission. However, if left untreated, Lyme disease may stay with you for the rest of your life. Another reason why testing is so important.

Don’t Freak Out

Being aware of tick season and taking preventive measures are the first steps toward protecting you and your pet’s health. A tick test and sample collection kit is an important addition to your first aid kit so you can enjoy your time outdoors. You can view videos and pictures HERE so you can be sure about the types of ticks you encounter and be prepared with the next steps. Most importantly, do not freak out when you encounter a tick. Mistakes can be made with tick removal if you are in a panic. We cannot avoid the outdoors, but we can be aware of the critters that live there, and the hitchhikers that come along with them, so we know what to do if a tick bites you.

FTC Attacks False Bamboo Claims

The Federal Trade Commission used its Penalty Offense Authority to take action against national retailers Kohl’s, Inc. and Walmart, Inc. for falsely marketing dozens of rayon textile products as bamboo. Both companies also are charged with making deceptive environmental claims, touting that the “bamboo” textiles were made using eco-friendly processes, while in reality converting bamboo into rayon requires the use of toxic chemicals and results in hazardous pollutants.

The Commission has asked the court to order Kohl’s and Walmart to stop making deceptive green claims or using other misleading advertising, and pay penalties of $2.5 million and $3 million respectively, by far the largest penalties in this area. The complaints and proposed orders were filed by the U.S. Department of Justice on the FTC’s behalf.

“Kohl’s and Walmart are paying millions of dollars under the FTC’s Penalty Offense Authority for mislabeling their rayon products as bamboo,” said Samuel Levine, Director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection. “False environmental claims harm both consumers and honest businesses, and companies that greenwash can expect to pay a price.”

The FTC’s complaints against Kohl’s and Walmart are similar in their structure and allegations. According to the complaints, since at least January 2015, Kohl’s, headquartered in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, and Walmart, based in Bentonville, Arkansas, have each marketed at least two dozen items as made of bamboo in both product titles and descriptions. In addition, the companies have marketed some of the “bamboo-derived” products as providing general environment benefits, such as being produced “free of harmful chemicals, using clean, non-toxic materials.”

As the complaints allege, Kohl’s and Walmart’s supposed “bamboo” textiles are actually made of rayon derived from bamboo, which was not disclosed to consumers, in violation of the FTC Act and the Textile Act and Rules. Further, the complaints allege the claimed environmental benefits of the products are false and misleading because the rayon manufacturing process uses toxic chemicals and results in the emission of hazardous pollutants.

In conjunction with this announcement, the FTC is reviving additional Notices of Penalty Offenses that were issued in the 1970s or 1980s but remain valid and relevant. These notices cover, for example, textiles, energy savings, fur products, home improvement products, auto rentals, bait and switch, toys, and weight reduction. Businesses in these industries should familiarize themselves with the Commission’s determinations in these areas.

The Commission vote to authorize the staff to refer the complaints to the DOJ and to approve the proposed orders was 4-0. The DOJ filed the complaints and proposed orders on behalf of the Commission in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

Hot Wheels Legends Tour

Mattel debuted the official Hot Wheels® 1:64-scale die-cast of the 2021 Hot Wheels Legends™ Tour winning 1969 Volvo P1800 Gasser built by Lee Johnstone of the United Kingdom. The first international Tour winner, Johnstone and his daughter, Victoria Upham, attended the global unveiling ceremony in New York City, where their family’s passion project was officially inducted into the Hot Wheels Garage of Legends™, a collection of the brand’s most iconic and celebrated designs existing both in 1:64th and life-sized scale.

A 71-year-old motor mechanic, Johnstone restored and modified his 1969 Volvo to become a real-life track star, which he races with his wife and three daughters. A winner on and off the track, the P1800 Gasser emerged victorious from a historic 25-stop international Tour spanning 5 continents, joining previous champions including the inaugural 2018-winning 2JetZ™, 2019-winning THE NASH, and 2020-winning 1970 Pontiac® Firebird™, as the next permanent fixture in Hot Wheels history.

The announcement was made by Ted Wu, Vice President and Global Head of Design for Vehicles at Mattel, at the legendary Classic Car Club Manhattan one week prior to the start of the historic fifth annual Hot Wheels Legends Tour presented by Mobil 1. The epic space was reimagined to showcase dozens of examples of how Hot Wheels has influenced culture, ranging from high fashion to NFTs. The 2022 Tour kicks off with virtual live streams in New Zealand and Australia on April 14 and April 21, respectively, followed by the first North American live event in Miami, Florida on April 30.

“The Legends Tour began in 2018 as a way to celebrate and engage the car builder community around the world,” said Wu. “Lee Johnstone’s 1969 Volvo P1800 proved to be a truly awe-inspiring Gasser interpretation that captivated the entire Hot Wheels team. As the first international Legends Tour winner, we can’t wait to share his dream with Hot Wheels fans in more than 150 countries around the world.”

Hot Wheels is an automotive legend, and for generations, every auto enthusiast’s love for cars has begun with Hot Wheels. Since the casting of the brand’s Original 16® vehicles in 1968, Hot Wheels has continued to define itself by creating some of the most iconic cars in the world, both influencing and being influenced by car culture. Beyond the automotive world, Hot Wheels has expanded into pop culture through segments such as gaming, fashion, luxury and film. But, it always remains true to its car culture heritage. Hot Wheels has established itself as an iconic automotive-lifestyle brand, and is now also a major player in the global custom car builder community.

More than 54 years after Hot Wheels launched its original vehicles, the process of transforming life-sized cars into 1:64-scale has changed dramatically while the focus on design continues to be at the forefront. Beginning with CAD (Computer Aided Design) scanning, the Hot Wheels team is able to digitalize every aspect of the 1969 Volvo P1800, before additional rounds of 3-D modeling and sample printing help designers determine the 1:64-scale vehicle’s final shape. Once approved, the final design must also undergo a rigorous series of Hot Wheels track tests to ensure it performs as good as it looks.
