Alfa Romeo x “Passione”

Love is in the air this Valentine’s Day with Alfa Romeo’s interactive e-book release, “Passione.” The Italian “Passione” translates in English to “passion,” inspired by Alfa Romeo’s roots in Turin, Italy. The brand’s iconic designs and craftsmanship over the past 110 years of automotive production have set Alfa Romeo apart, though the brand’s love for creating luxurious, beautiful vehicles has remained unchanged. Their new e-book looks to detail how key design elements have distinguished Alfa Romeo’s legendary automobiles, and how the company’s unparalleled approach has caught the eyes and hearts of Alfa Romeo fans, adoringly dubbed ‘Alfistis’, globally.

Upon opening the e-book, readers are met with a bold statement from Orazio Satta Puliga, Head of Alfa Romeo Engineering from 1946-1973.

The e-book looks to the past and future of Alfa Romeo, including ten chapters of diverse designs, timeless beauty, and Italian inspiration: “Italian roots”, “Heritage”, “Purity”, “Disruption”, “Red”, “Beauty Is Everywhere”, “Beauty and the Beast”, and “Design Melting Pot.” The informational text in the e-book chronicles the brand’s legacy, and is paired with beautiful imagery, inspired by 14th century Italian Renaissance art and design elements.

2021 Polestar 2

Polestar Cars has just announced the formal pricing of the Swedish brand’s first pure electric car, the 2021 Polestar 2. The electric performance fastback has an MSRP of $59,900 in the United States.

The MSRP of the Polestar 2 is below state incentive thresholds in critical markets such as California and New York. Additionally, this price enables state rebates of approximately $2,000 in certain states*, for total tax incentives of up to $9,500 when combined with the federal electric vehicle tax credit.**

“We are quite enthusiastic to announce the U.S. pricing for the Polestar 2,” said Gregor Hembrough, Head of Polestar USA. “The MSRP is lower than we originally targeted, and will be extended to all of our current reservation holders.”

“With an online purchase option, lower pricing, considerable tax incentives, and production already underway, the Polestar 2 is well-positioned for a successful entry into the U.S. market,” continued Hembrough. 

Polestar also announced option pricing for the Polestar 2 depending on which add ons someone hopes to add to the car. The performance pack comes in at $5,000 and the Nappa Leather Interior is priced at $4,000. The stunning 20-inch Alloy Wheels and the Metallic Paint Colors both come in at $1,200.

This vehicle is priced in the same range as the 2021 Tesla models that have been released. The 2021 Tesla Model Y is starting at $49,990 and the 2021 Tesla Model S is priced beginning at $69,420. The current average price for an electric car is around $55,600, so the Polestar 2 falls right on par with this average. 

The Polestar 2 arrives with 408 hp and 487 lb.-ft. of torque, very powerful for an electric car. The vehicle also features all-wheel drive and a 78 kWh battery pack, which enables considerable EV range. The car has an MPGe of 96 in the city and 88 on the highway.

The Polestar 2 is also the first car in the world to feature a built-in infotainment system powered by Android, featuring voice command via the Google Assistant, Google Maps with EV charging support and app downloads via the Google Play Store. The car features innovative technology throughout. The interior of the hatchback is modern yet minimal creating an opulent feel for passengers.  

The Polestar 2, which began production in late March, has already begun delivery to U.S. reservation holders in summer 2020. With a digital retail model, the Polestar 2 is available to purchase on Polestar.com.

In order to replace car dealerships, the brand will soon open physical retail showrooms—Polestar Spaces—where non-commissioned Polestar Specialists will be able to assist customers with product information and test drives. Polestar Spaces are designed specifically to allow people to explore the cars without the pressure of committing to a purchase. The first of these locations have opened in California and New York as of late summer 2020, and the next additional locations are currently set to open in Denver and Austin. 

The Polestar 2 is available for sale in all 50 states and Polestar will announce lease and retail finance options for the vehicle in the near future.

In the pursuit of accelerating sustainable mobility, Polestar, the electric performance car brand, today released a multi-episode video series featuring Golden Globe winner Oscar Isaac. A champion for climate justice, Isaac delves deeper into Polestar innovations which aim to improve today’s society, and that of the future.

In partnership with The Wall Street Journal, “Making aNew” is a five-part mini docuseries which seeks the truths behind Polestar’s ethos and advancements in sustainability, electrification and performance. The video series is available to view today at www.polestar.com/us/making-anew.

More recently, the brand began publishing detailed climate impact reports of its electric vehicles as they leave the production line, aiming to be the most transparent company in the automotive industry. As a proof point of this pledge, Polestar has published a full lifecycle analysis of the Polestar 2 Electric Fastback, and will release its first annual sustainability report in March of this year.

Stratos Zero Supercar?

What would the Bertone Stratos Zero Concept look like today if it had made it past the prototype stage and into production? Casey Putsch and a Genius Garage alumni Peyton MacAllister will be coachbuilding a fully functioning modern day supercar that reflects the past and shows what the Bertone Stratos Zero could have been. The King Zero project, named in recognition of Putsch’s longtime YouTube channel sponsor AvalonKing ceramic coatings, will launch this summer and take to the roads sometime later this fall.

Casey and Peyton are going old school ditching 3D and clay modeling for full scale hand drawings to bring to life the epic build (see below). Given the one-off nature of this project, the body of the King Zero will be hand formed over a wire buck using thin gauge steel to create the body.  The use of a wooden buck was not considered since there will only be one Zero ever produced, for now. King Zero project will be using the suspension and frame from a Porsche Boxster and a BMW V12 to give it modern-day supercar performance, versus the 115 horsepower Lancia Fulvia V-4 in the original prototype. The dimensions for the King Zero will also increase. The original Stratos Zero was 33 inches tall (7 inches lower than a GT 40), 144 inches long with an 87-inch wheelbase.  However, given the Boxster’s 95.2-inch wheelbase the overall dimensions for the King Zero will increase 8 to 9% to provide more room for the V-12 and also its occupants. 

“We are hoping to pay tribute to the original masterpiece and art that is the Stratos Zero,” said Putsch.  “Our plans are to take it further to represent what a pure supercar should be with simplicity and a stick shift. The goal is to make a drivable supercar that gets back to the basics. I plan on driving it as much as possible and use it to teach future engineers.”

Six Expert Pointers on the Best Time to Purchase a Car 

Before you drive off into the sunset with your dream wheels, these tips for buying a car based on day, month, and holiday sales could offer massive savings: 

1. Do Your Car Shopping Early in the Week 

Naturally, most people tend to have more time on their hands over the weekends when browsing or shopping for a new car. But, in order to bag a better deal, you really should avoid weekends when car shopping. 

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday are the ideal days of the week for purchasing a car. This is due to less customer traffic, which means a better chance of driving away with a better deal. 

Car dealerships are also crowded over the weekends, which results in less personalized attention. This makes price negotiation difficult.

So, stick to the early days in the week and take advantage of those limited opportunities when car dealerships are at their quietest. 

2. Shop Later in the Year (and Month) 

Buying a new car at the turn of a new year is never a good idea. Instead, stick to later months in the year such as October, November, and December. Car dealerships generally have sales quotas and sales goals they have to meet by these later months in the year. 

Shopping for a car at this time could be work to your advantage as salespeople intend to settle with their sales goals and quotas in mind.

The same goes for car shopping later in the month. Sales quotas tend to sync up with the end of each calendar month, but it’s not always exact. Try to schedule your new car shopping for the 26th, 27th, or 28th of the month.

3. Take Advantage of Holiday Sales 

This really is a no-brainer when it comes to shopping for any large purchase. Holidays periods throughout the year offer deeply discounted prices compared to other months — so take full advantage. 

Some of the best holiday periods to keep in mind include:

• Memorial Day weekend: summer is an expensive time of year to buy a car, but prices are always discounted over the Memorial Day holiday

• Black Friday: car dealerships take part in the Black Friday sale craze just like any other retailer, and you can save big

• New Year’s Eve: it may seem like an odd time, but this is one of the best days of the year for car shopping as dealerships are facing monthly, quarterly, and yearly quotas and sales goals

• Labor Day weekend: this a great time to purchase a car based on car selection and competitive pricing

Bear in mind that end-of-year holidays and sales goals are also driven by annual bonuses. Naturally, salespeople want to meet their quotas so that they can receive their commission. This makes for the best chance of securing a great deal on your dream car. 

4. Plan Your Shopping Based on Car Model Closeout

What is does it mean when a car is on closeout? Basically, this when a newer, updated model of the same car is being brought in, so older models are on closeout.

Car dealerships tend to have limited space when they receive their latest car models, and they need to move ”old” stock. This is another great time to get in a good car deal as older models need to be sold. 

If you can hold out on buying the most up-to-date car model, purchase an older model instead and save yourself thousands of dollars.

But keep in mind that many car shoppers use this same strategy. Most manufacturers release new car models in the summer but don’t wait too long to make your move as older car models can sell out very quickly. 

5. Consider the Car’s Design Cycle

Car models are constantly being updated. Some car models are also completely res-designed altogether. It may be a good time to shop for your car when the manufacturer is about to implement a completely new design cycle of the car. 

You could save serious amounts of money on the outgoing design model as the stock needs to be sold. This is a great tip if you are more of a bargain hunter, and not too focused on being a trendsetter! 

6. The Best Time of Year to Buy a Used Car

If you have your eye on a used car, October-December is the best time of year to consider buying second-hand.

These months tend to coincide with peak season and new-car buyers. This means that the number of trade-ins increases exponentially at car dealerships. Basically, you’ll be spoiled for choice when it comes to second-hand car options.

The greater number of trade-ins at a dealership also makes for better prices — especially if a dealership wants to meet its end-of-year quotas. 

Get Your Auto, Art, Design, Travel and Health Fix 

Now that you know more about the best time to purchase a car, you’ll know that you really shouldn’t rush into a car purchase. Holding out pays off in the long-run. 

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars – Young Designers Competition

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is extending the deadline for entries in its Young Designers Competition to Monday 1 June 2020.

This gives aspiring designers up to the age of 16 an additional two weeks to create and submit their dream Rolls-Royce of the future.

Launched in early April, the competition has already attracted more than 2,000 entries from children in more than 70 countries worldwide. Its aim was to stimulate design talent and provide an educational distraction for children from self-quarantine and social-distancing measures. Although some countries are starting to ease their lock-down restrictions, many children are still unable to attend school, and their normal interactions and activities are likely to remain curtailed for some weeks to come.

The overall winner will receive a once-in-a-lifetime prize: a fully rendered illustration of their design. Runners-up will receive a certificate individually hand-signed by Torsten Müller-Ötvös, the Chief Executive Officer of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.

“We’re delighted by the sheer inventiveness, vision and detail we’re seeing in the children’s designs. Some of the ideas are truly extraordinary and have really got us thinking; it’s inspiring us as a design team to see things differently and challenge our own notions of what’s possible. We’re really looking forward to the judging process, but it’s going to be a huge challenge to pick our winners,” — Gavin Hartley, Head of Bespoke Design, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, will be judging the entries together with members of his team.

Adient Sells it’s Recaro Automotive Seating Unit

Adient, a global leader in automotive seating, has sold its Recaro Automotive Seating business to Raven Acquisitions LLC, a Detroit based, privately owned investment corporation. The transaction was effective January 1, 2020.

Detroit, Michigan– Recaro Automotive Seating develops, produces and markets premium vehicle seats for OEMs and the aftermarket at three locations in Europe, the U.S. and Japan and employs approximately 425 employees. In fiscal year 2019, the business generated ~$150M in revenue.

With the new corporate structure, Recaro Automotive Seating will be able to focus on its core business – performance seats, ergonomic seats, and special applications – with shorter and faster decision-making processes allowing greater flexibility to better meet the requirements of the market.

The license agreement and therefore the right to use the Recaro brand on license for the development, production, and marketing of premium car seats is transferred to the new owners. The brand license is granted by Recaro Holding GmbH, Stuttgart/Germany, the holding company of Recaro Aircraft Seating and Recaro eGaming.
