Global 2022 Hot Wheels™ Legends Tour Winner Crowned at Jay Leno’s Garage

The winner of the 2022 Hot Wheels™ Legends Tour was crowned during the virtual Global Grand Finale event held at Jay Leno’s Garage on November 12. Nicknamed “Texas Toot,” the ultra-custom 1992 Autozam Scrum mini truck, built by Craig Meaux of Beaumont, Texas, will be immortalized as a 1:64 Hot Wheels die-cast vehicle and inducted into the Hot Wheels Garage of Legends™.

Customized in Meaux’s garage and built entirely for fun, “Texas Toot” started life as a stock Japanese import in 2020, before becoming this year’s Hot Wheels Legends Tour champion. This custom Kei truck features a fabricated five-foot hydraulic lift, Chevrolet 454 big-block, TH400 transmission, 12-inch drop reverse rotation FTI transfer case, 250 shot nitrous kit, train horns and massive custom welded 30″x15″ wheels. Following this bucket list win, and in true challenger spirit, Meaux intends to use his passion project in burnout competitions, which he is sure to dominate in what Jay Leno calls his “superhero” truck. 

“The competition was strong in 2022, but turning a Japanese mini truck into a monster truck was hard to beat,” said Ted Wu, Vice President, Global Head of Design for Vehicles, Mattel. “As the first truck to be crowned since the inception of the Hot Wheels Legends Tour, we hope Craig’s passion project inspires builders and fans from around the world to set big goals and follow their dreams. I cannot wait to see what this super-sized mini truck looks like in 1:64-scale.”

“I wasn’t expecting to win, so this is a dream come true,” said Meaux. “I wanted to create something that no one else had. I didn’t have previous experience with this sort of fabrication, so it’s awesome that it came out the way it did and to have everybody enjoy the truck.” 

Co-hosted by celebrity car enthusiast Jay Leno and motorsports ambassador Jarod DeAnda, the fifth annual Hot Wheels Legends Tour Global Grand Finale featured 10 incredible builds around the world and an array of judges who were tasked with choosing the entry that best represents authenticity, creativity and garage spirit. Joining Jay and Jarod on stage were Ted Wu, Global Head of Design for Vehicles, Mattel; Bryan Benedict, Design Director of Hot Wheels and Matchbox Die-Cast Vehicles, Mattel; Brendon Vetuskey, Lead Designer for Monster Trucks Die-Cast and Redline Club Vehicles, Mattel; Dalal Elsheikh, Advance Autonomous Design Director at Ford and Hot Wheels Brand Ambassador; Magnus Walker, television presenter, fashion designer and prolific car collector; Misha Mansoor, founding member of progressive metal band Periphery and Hot Wheels Brand Ambassador; and Jon Chase, former Art Director at Hoonigan and Founder of the DSTROYR lifestyle brand.

As part of this exciting finale event, Hot Wheels announced the brand’s first-ever adult-facing campaign, “Where Legends are Made.” Designed to further engage the global car enthusiast community, this campaign serves as an umbrella for the adult-facing activities Hot Wheels will launch in the future, expanding beyond traditional automotive into pop culture. This includes segments such as fashion, film, gaming, NFTs and luxury, while remaining true to the brand’s car culture heritage with builder activities such as the Hot Wheels Legends Tour – the world’s largest traveling custom car show.

To kick off this adult campaign, Hot Wheels shared a video featuring culturally relevant influencers from around the world who champion different categories of car fandom – exotics, muscle/hot rods, modified/drift, EV/future, motorsports, trucks/off-road and retro/classic.

The third annual Las Vegas Concours d’Elegance, one of the world’s most prestigious automotive events, debuts at Wynn Las Vegas on Friday, Oct. 28, through Sunday, Oct. 30. The luxury automotive experience pays homage to remarkable cars of the past, present and future at Wynn Golf Club, the 129-acre championship golf course at Wynn Las Vegas.

“The Concours d’Elegance and its legendary display of design, craftmanship and grandeur is precisely the type of elevated experience that our guests will thoroughly enjoy for years to come,” said Brian Gullbrants, President of Wynn Las Vegas. “Rare and priceless automobiles displayed upon the fairways of our Wynn Golf Club is a perfect match for this annual Wynn Las Vegas event.”

The lineup of weekend events will include:

  • The Gala Concours Dinner, kicks off festivities on Friday evening and offers live entertainment, tasting stations and curated cocktails at Wynn Las Vegas’ premier nightclub, XS. The exclusive evening will showcase the Helene Awards, a ceremony signature to the Las Vegas Concours d’Elegance that honors visionaries in the automotive industry.
  • The centerpiece of the weekend, the Concours d’Elegance exhibition on Saturday, Oct. 29 will display a collection of rare and unique automobiles from around the world. The event is expected to showcase more than 100 exceptional collector cars from both pre- and post-war periods, and will include a special appearance by well-known automotive enthusiast and distinguished car collector Jay Leno. Each year, Concours d’Elegance highlights a different Marque, which is a distinctive automobile model or brand. The 2022 Marque is the Ferrari F40. The event also consists of nearly 20 judged, non-judged and contemporary classes, such as British Post-War Sports and Sports Racing, American Luxury (1925-1942), European Luxury (1925-1942), Antiques (pre-1924), Race Cars, and more. Starting at 2 p.m., an esteemed panel of judges will present Best of Show winners and standouts with the coveted Helene Award statuette.
  • The Chairman’s VIP Tasting on Oct. 29 is a premium lunchtime tasting experience underneath the grand rotunda on Wynn’s event lawn, and features select hosted bars alongside a range of tasting stations designed by executive chef Kelly Bianchi. Assorted tasting stations include: a sushi station with sashimi and assorted rolls; a beef tenderloin carving station; a slider station featuring Maine lobster and surf and turf, among others; a made-to-order pizza and pasta station; and a whimsical donut station.
  • The Concours Cookout will feature a variety of grab-and-go options and select hosted bars amid the beautiful greenery of Wynn’s event lawn, also on Oct. 29. Grab-and-go offerings include a salad and sandwich station, a kebab station, a taco bar, backyard-inspired barbecue such as wagyu beef hotdogs and a spicy fried chicken sandwich, as well as desserts like custom ice cream sandwiches and caramel corn.
  • Guests may also purchase a VIP experience that combines Concours d’Elegance exhibition viewing with entry to the fairway tasting tents. The Concours d’Elegance + Hosted Bar includes a selection of the fine- and casual-dining options Wynn Las Vegas is known for, as well as select beverages.
  • The weekend of festivities conclude on Sunday, Oct. 30 with the Tour d’Elegance, a motorcade down the famous Las Vegas Strip where Jay Leno will serve as grand marshal.

Additionally, Wynn Las Vegas will offer a selection of room packages that showcase the resort’s newly re-designed accommodations. These include:

  • Chairman’s Suite Package, which features two nights in a 1,280 square feet Wynn Parlor Suite, as well as two tickets to the Friday night Gala Concours Dinner, the Concours d’Elegance exhibition and Chairman’s VIP Tasting.

Electronic music supergroup, Swedish House Mafia, announces their first-ever North American nightlife residency with Wynn Nightlife at the world-renowned Encore Beach Club and XS Nightclub inside Wynn Las Vegas. Beginning Aug. 20, the trio of Swedish DJs comprised of Sebastian Ingrosso, Steve Angello and Axel “Axwell” Hedfors will bring their award-winning music to the unique nightlife setting for two years.

Vaughn Lowery, the president of 360 MAGAZINE, has always strived for positive social change. He graduated from Cornell University‘s ILR School. From there, he became active in modeling, acting and publishing.

A decade or more, Vaughn Lowery became notable when he appeared in Kmart’s smash commercial – Joe Boxer. It helped the retailer roughly sell 20 million dollars per week. By becoming an exclusive spokesperson, he appeared with Leeza Gibbons on Extra, Katie Couric on Today Show, and Jay Leno on The Tonight Show.

At the culmination of college, he relocated to New York City; and thus, Vaughn began a career as an actor and model. It was there where celebrity makeup artist Sam Fine set him up with a fashion photographer, Fadil Berisha. Above Joe Boxer, he worked as a successful print model for many companies such as GAP, Old Navy, as well as a runway model for Tommy Hilfiger, Phat Farm, and Karl Kani. He has graced the pages of Elle, Cosmopolitan and Glamour. Additionally, he flipped the Houston Chronicle.

Years back, ABC News Primetime aired a segment chronicling his life, along with the tragic John Ritter story. Vaughn has also filmed a Super Bowl commercial, completed a high-profile Dasani Water billboard ad campaign, appeared on America’s Next Top Model, guest-starred on the comedy, Scrubs, and screened his controversial 35mm festival film, The Young & Evil, at Sundance 2009. Having been represented by major industry players such as NEXT, he was also named Seventeen Magazine’s 17 Hot Guys. His hindmost project The Company We Keep boasts director Roy Campanella II along with comedic co-star Leslie Jones. At present, Vaughn wrote a short, Chasen Life, which won a writing competition. He adapted audiobook Say Uncle into a feature-length film, pitched a reality series and is in the process of architecting an immersive design experience.

Due to his turbulent upbringing in Detroit, Vaughn has kept his personal promise to be a contributing citizen to those in need. He has lent his name and support to: Women At Risk, Human Rights Commission, March of Dimes, Heart of Los Angeles Youth, Awakening Young Minds and schools across the nation where he encourages adolescents to step into their power.

As of late, Lowery has produced 360 MAG, a podcast on Audible, Apple and Spotify as well as an NFT Animal Series on OpenSea.

Global Grand Finale of 2021 Hot Wheels

The 2021 Hot Wheels Legends Tour Global Grand Finale is here. Presented by Mobil 1, this virtual event is the culmination of the largest ever international hunt for the next custom fan vehicle worthy of being inducted into the Hot Wheels Garage of Legendsä and immortalized as a Hot WheelsÒ 1:64 die-cast toy. Ten finalists, representing the top five North American submissions and five best international builds, will go head-to-head in a live-streamed event hosted from Jay Leno’s Garage at 9:00 a.m. PT on Saturday, Nov. 13. 

Ten cars will compete but there can only be one winner. The vehicle that best embodies true authenticity, creativity, and garage spirit will emerge as the next Hot Wheels Legend. The task of crowning this year’s champion will be conducted by an expert panel of judges, including Henrik Fisker, automotive design icon; Elana Scherr, Car and Driver Senior Editor; Ted Wu, Global Head of Design for Vehicles, Mattel; Bryan Benedict, Director of Vehicles Design, Mattel; Brendon Vetuskey, Vehicles Designer, Mattel; and of course car-loving celebrity Jay Leno.

Hot Wheels Legends Tour chooses winner

Mattel (NASDAQ: MAT) announced today the winner of the 2020 Hot Wheels Legends Tour. The 1970 Pontiac Trans Am custom car, built by Riley Stair of Sacramento, will be inducted into the Hot Wheels Garage of Legends and will join the Hot Wheels collection as a 1:64 scale die-cast.

The 1970 Pontiac Trans Am is the third fan’s car to become a Hot Wheels die-cast and will hit store shelves worldwide in 2021. The announcement was made during the Hot Wheels Legends Tour Finale event by Ted Wu, Vice President of Global Design for Vehicles at Mattel.

Riley Stair’s build was chosen from thousands of cars entered in the Hot Wheels Legends Tour, which had 14 stops throughout Europe, LATAM, Asia and North America. While all finalists who competed at the global finale event embodied Hot Wheels high standards or performance and design, the winning custom build was selected for its true representation of the Hot Wheels garage spirit.

“By going virtual, the third year of the Hot Wheels Legends Tour demonstrated tremendous growth, engaging over 10 million fans from around the world,” said Ted Wu, Vice President, Global Head of Design for Vehicles, Mattel. “With more vehicle entries this year than ever before, we know we found a special build that embodies the Hot Wheels challenger spirit with the 1970 Pontiac Trans Am. The 1970 Pontiac Trans Am is a one of a kind race car engineered by Riley Stair on the side of his parents’ house. Revving up to 10,000 RPM, the vehicles motor is entirely custom built, and the foundation for the engine is a 400-cubic inch LS V8.

A team of judges, including Hot Wheels designers, celebrities and automotive influencers, chose the Legends Tour winner for its authenticity, originality and garage spirit. The Legends Tour winner’s life-size car and die-cast version will also join the Hot Wheels Garage of Legends, a collection of one-of-a-kind cars immortalized as Hot Wheels die-casts that meet the brand’s high benchmarks of style and performance.

The Inaugural Audrain’s Newport, a four-day car extravaganza hosted by Newport, Rhode Island’s Audrain Automobile Museum is set to be the East Coast’s first true motor week. The event, set for October 3 -6, 2019, will be a celebration of all-things automotive, luxury, sport and history. The chairman of this year’s Audrain’s Newport Concours & Motor Week 2019 is entertainment super star and automotive enthusiast Jay Leno, while Concours d’Elegance Chairman for 2019 is one of the premier automotive experts in the world and TV personality, Donald Osborne.

Featuring a world-class collection of over a billion dollars-worth of vintage and modern cars, the event offers ticket holders unparalleled access to some of the rarest automobiles in existence, including 12 vehicles on loan from General Motors’ Heritage Division, from a ’38 Buick Y-Job to a ’54 Corsair Concept to a 2003 Cadillac Sixteen. VIP ticket holders will get a closer look at Koenigsegg’s newest hypercar, the Jesko, a Bugatti Chiron Sport Glass Roof and a Porsche 356 Outlaw, customized by Rod Emory of Emory Motorsports. On Sunday, the Concours d’Elegance on will also feature a first-ever 30 Under 30 category to give enthusiasts age 30 years and younger the opportunity to showcase cars that have been built with $30,000 or less. Jay Leno and other car experts will serve as the judges.

Event sponsors are Aston Martin, Bugatti, Koenigsegg, Richard Mille and Porsche, among others, will also be on site throughout the 4-day celebration.

Vehicles participating in the Oct. 6 Concours d’Elegance will also have the opportunity to participate in the Tour d’Elegance. The Claiborne Pell Newport Bridge, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2019 will be an integral part of the celebration. The Tour will start on the west end of the Pell Bridge and feature a staged participant photo on the bridge with a vintage aircraft fly-over. The Tour d’Elegance will then make its way along the scenic and historic Ocean Drive, making a stop for coffee and photos at Ft. Adams and conclude with a display of the participating cars on Bellevue Avenue.

Fine automobiles may be the focus, but Audrain’s Newport Concours and Motor Week will have it all.
