RCA Records drops Doja Cat’s melodic, bouncy new single “Vegas” from the ELVIS Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. The soundtrack is set to be released the same date as Baz Luhrmann’s forthcoming film ELVISJune 24, starring Austin Butler and Tom Hanks. The track incorporates “Hound Dog” in a unique, singular way that only Doja Cat could ever do. Doja debuted the catchy single for the first time at Coachellathis year, where she received high praise for her set; UPROXX proclaimed “…we’ve definitely seen all the evidence we need to say that Doja should have headlined Coachella 2022.” She also brought out acclaimed Gospel artist, Shonka, who plays Big Mama Thornton in the film and will be on the upcoming soundtrack as well.

Grammy artist CeeLo Green also known as the “Soul Machine” is announcing today his upcoming James Brown Tribute Tour entitled “Soul Brotha #100” with his first date this Friday April 29th, 2022 in New Orleans at the Jazz & Heritage Festival. CeeLo will be honoring the legacy and musical genius of his idol James Brown with an unbelievable 75-minute set of 27 hit songs including classics like Superbad, I Feel Good, Man’s World, Sex Machine along with Green’s hits Forget You, Crazy, Bright Lights, Fool For You and many more familiar anthems.

More than just a concert, CeeLo Green has curated an elaborate wardrobe that reflects James Brown’s true extravagant style that is similar to Green’s statement looks. The idea for the tour came to life after CeeLo started spending extended time in Augusta, GA – the home of James Brown. He was asked by Paine College, a historical black university in Augusta, to be a visiting Professor of Music and Ambassador of International Arts & Culture. CeeLo teaches a class on-campus once a month, with a personalized approach, to educate students on the music industry at large and the history of music along with other related topics. His charitable efforts and time spent at Paine and in Augusta have been recognized and celebrated by James Brown’s family. Additionally, because of his new role at Paine among other efforts, CeeLo is receiving the “Honorary Doctorate in Humanitarianism” award on May 21st by the Global International Alliance University, a non-profit organization and international consortium of university lecturers and researchers whose aim it is to provide a collaborative platform for academic research, analysis and development and to explore leading practices, best practices as well as to develop missing practices.

World-renowned creative director/choreographer Tanisha Scott (Rihanna, Drake) makes a very special guest appearance on Amazon Prime’s anxiously awaited new series, LIzzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls, set to premiere April 14th. She teams up with legend and host Lizzo in order to uncover the best and brightest new dancers for her upcoming tour. Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls is a new unscripted series following global superstar and icon Lizzo, who is on the hunt for confident, bad-ass women to join the elite ranks of the Big Grrrls and join her world tour. With 10 hopeful women moving into the Big Grrrls House, they must prove they have what it takes to make it to the end and join Lizzo in front of a global audience on the center stage. In this search for dynamic dancers, Lizzo leans on Scott as well as fellow legendary choreographers and O.G. Singer-songwriter, record producer, and actor Lenny Kravitz was seen at the Grammy’s wearing bespoke boots in collaboration with Modern Vice [MV] Designer, Jordan Adoni and Church Boutique!

The seasoned musician literally brought his look to new heights. The heeled knee-high leather boots in black and silver, which boasted a square-shaped toe, was paired seamlessly with his rockstar outfits on the red carpet and during his iconic performance with H.E.R and Travis Barker.

Apart from his successful career, Lenny Kravitz’s innate style has catapulted him into becoming the icon he is today, breaking conventional societal norms. Kravitz follows a long line of megawatt performers who have given the heel a go, including David Bowie, Prince, and Harry Styles.

SPIRIT OF ECSTASY REDESIGNED

Rolls-Royce has reimagined its iconic Spirit of Ecstasy figurine to grace the bonnet of its new all-electric motor car, Spectre, 111 years to the day the Spirit of Ecstasy was first registered as intellectual property of Rolls-Royce on 6th February 1911.

The figurine has been remodelled with a lower, more dynamic stance that brings her much closer to the drawings made by her original creator, the illustrator and sculptor Charles Robinson Sykes, in the early years of the 20th century. It also sees her physical form represent The Expression, a visual device that forms part of the marque’s new visual language. The new Spirit of Ecstasy stands 82.73mm tall, compared to her predecessor’s 100.01mm. Her robes, which flow behind her in the slipstream – often but erroneously characterised as ‘wings’ – have been subtly reshaped to make them more aerodynamic and realistic.

The most visible change is her stance. Previously, she has stood with her feet together, legs straight and tilting at the waist. Now, she is a true goddess of speed, braced for the wind, one leg forward, body tucked low, her eyes focused eagerly ahead. These changes have both practical and stylistic benefits, contributing to Spectre’s remarkable aerodynamic properties. The earliest Spectre prototypes have a drag coefficient (cd) of just 0.26, making it the most aerodynamic Rolls-Royce ever created. The figure is expected to improve during the product’s exhaustive testing protocols undertaken in 2022.

This new expression captures the essence of Charles Sykes’ original drawings, but rather than simply being redrawn or redesigned, her new shape has been digitally sculpted by a computer modeller working at the Home of Rolls-Royce, who has a passion for life drawing and sculpture. Their experience in this field was invaluable in developing the figurine’s elegant lifelike facial features as well as her expression, which deftly combines focus and serenity. The designers also consulted stylists at Goodwood for their perspective on her hair, clothes, posture, and expression, adding an authentically contemporary aura to her dynamism and commanding presence.

While all figurines are made using one of the oldest known casting techniques, named lost wax casting or cire-perdue, each is individually finished by hand, so will be minutely different from figurine to figurine. As well as continuing a long Rolls-Royce tradition – until 1939, the mascots were made and polished by Charles Sykes himself – this subtle, ephemeral human element creates an intriguing contrast to the precise, highly engineered motor car she sits atop.

Though relatively rare in the modern era, changes to the Spirit of Ecstasy have been made throughout her 111-year lifespan. She has been rendered in various sizes and materials and, briefly, in a kneeling position. The new version created for Spectre will appear on all future models: the current design will still be used on Phantom, Ghost, Wraith, Dawn and Cullinan and their Black Badge alter egos where applicable.

GLAAD Nominees

GLAAD, the world’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) media advocacy organization, announced the nominees for the 33rd Annual GLAAD Media Awards. RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 13 finalist Gottmik announced nominees in select GLAAD Media Awards categories live via GLAAD’s TikTok channel.

The GLAAD Media Awards honor media for fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of LGBTQ people and issues. Since its inception in 1990, the GLAAD Media Awards have grown to be the most visible annual LGBTQ awards show in the world, sending powerful messages of acceptance to audiences globally. The 33rd Annual GLAAD Media Awards are presented by Gilead Sciences, Inc. and Ketel One Family Made Vodka.

The 33rd Annual GLAAD Media Awards nominees were published, released, or broadcast between January 1 and December 31, 2021. The GLAAD Media Awards ceremonies, which fund GLAAD’s work to accelerate LGBTQ acceptance, will be held in Los Angeles at the Beverly Hilton on Saturday, April 2, 2022, and in New York at the Hilton Midtown on Friday, May 6, 2022.

“Media can create positive change and this year’s nominees represent powerful projects, stories, and creators that positively shifted culture and enlightened audiences with new and impactful LGBTQ stories,” said GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis. “There are more nominees this year than ever before, highlighting a growing landscape of LGBTQ visibility, and serving as a reminder of the critical role that film, television, music, journalism, and other forms of media can play in growing LGBTQ acceptance in the face of ongoing attacks against our community.”

Streaming services saw a total of 63 nominees, with cable receiving 39 nominations, and broadcast networks receiving 17 nominations. HBO/HBO Max scored the most nominations of any network with a total of 19 nominees, followed by Netflix with 17 nominees. Hulu received 7 nominations, while ABC, MSNBC, and Peacock all received 4 nominations. In the Spanish-language categories, Univision and Telemundo both received two nominations.

During a year when anti-transgender violence rose and lawmakers across the U.S. introduced an unprecedented number of bills attempting to stop transgender youth from participating in sports and accessing gender-affirming healthcare, many of the nominees at the 33rd Annual GLAAD Media Awards centered on transgender people and issues in timely, nuanced, and empowering ways. Of the 30 television shows nominated across Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Drama Series, and Outstanding New TV Series, 18 feature trans and/or nonbinary characters, including:

GLAAD announced 246 nominees in 30 categories, including two new categories: Outstanding New TV Series and Outstanding Original Graphic Novel/Anthology. As LGBTQ representation continues to expand across television and streaming, the Outstanding New TV Series recognizes scripted comedy or drama series in their first season that include impactful LGBTQ stories. The Outstanding Original Graphic Novel/Anthology category recognizes an original graphic novel or an anthology of short stories appearing in the same book released by a mainstream publisher and its subsidiary labels.

“After decades of LGBTQ characters being excluded, sidelined, or misrepresented on television, it is incredibly powerful to see how many series introduced fresh, impactful, and fully developed LGBTQ characters and storylines in their first season, many of which were some of the most beloved shows of the year,” said GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis. “The introduction of the Outstanding New TV Series category recognizes the shows and creators getting LGBTQ inclusion right from the beginning and encourages other showrunners to include LGBTQ characters and stories that enlighten and entertain in new projects.”

Each year, GLAAD presents non-competitive Special Recognition Awards to media projects that do not fit into one of the existing GLAAD Media Awards categories. For the 33rd Annual GLAAD Media Awards, GLAAD is presenting Special Recognition honors to eight media projects that spotlighted diverse segments of the LGBTQ community in innovative ways. The eight media projects include: All Boys Aren’t Blue by George M. Johnson [filmed reading + performance]; “Alok Vaid-Menon” 4D with Demi Lovato (Cadence13/OBB Sound/SB Projects); CODED: The Hidden Love of J.C. Leyendecker (Paramount+); Jeopardy! The award is named after Barbara Gittings in recognition of her groundbreaking work as editor of The Ladder, and for her appearances as an out lesbian on national news media throughout the 1970s and 1980s.

The all-new Les-Paul.com website has officially launched and is the most comprehensive and interactive source for information and entertainment relating to the legendary Les Paul. The acclaimed inventor and musician are known for numerous inventions and innovations that changed the way musicians play music, engineers record music, and the way fans hear music. Les was a pioneer and is arguably the most important individual in the history of the modern music industry. The exciting new website is divided into five sections: The Inventor, The Musician, The Foundation, Education, and Music. Visitors will enjoy hours of amazing videos and other content in which to explore the life and career of the man who is revered by musicians worldwide in every genre of music. The site’s new homepage opens with a slide show edited to Les’ own music and features highlights of his extraordinary life.

A factory standard Aiways U5 SUV, a team from Euronics, and a private customer team will enter the now legendary E-Cannonball rally on Saturday, 25th September in Berlin.

Along the route from Brandenburg, Berlin to Munich, this year’s participants will be making scheduled pitstops in Mühlhausen / Thuringia and in Bayreuth / Bavaria. The E-Cannonball is an endurance drive during which each participant tries to achieve the optimal ratio between driving speed / energy consumption and charging speed/battery size. The deciding factor will therefore be the individual teams’ tactics to find the ‘sweet spot’, meaning drivers will not be able to rely on the engine power or battery size of their EVs. Instead, the most efficient driving style, route selection, availability of charging stations, and traffic conditions will be the deciding factors.

The factory standard Aiways U5 SUV will be driven for the first time by Nicola Cavanis. The young woman from Munich, who is usually seen on the catwalks of the fashion world for Louisa Models, is looking forward to this ambitious task in a battery-electric vehicle. “I am really looking forward to this exciting challenge, especially driving more efficiently and economically. THE TEMPTATIONS KICK OFF 60TH ANNIVERSARY YEARLONG CELEBRATION WILL INCLUDE NEW ALBUM, VIDEOS SERIES, AND COMMEMORATIVE EVENTS

Motown/UMe is pleased to announce the kickoff of the 60th Anniversary celebration of the legendary, Grammy Award-Winning Temptations. The Temptations are one of the most revered and prolific musical institutions of all time. Motown luminaries, The Temptations, are today, one of the most iconic, bestselling brands in the entertainment world. With Otis Williams, the founding and sole surviving member of The Temptations, their popularity is ever-increasing and their track record of continuing to sell decades worth of history-making music is breathtaking.

The Temptations signed their first contract with Motown on May 15, 1961. The members of the group at the time of the initial contract signing with Motown consisted of Otis Williams, Paul Williams, Eddie Kendricks, Melvin Franklin and Elbridge Bryant. By 1964, the group had evolved into what became known as the world-famous “Classic Five”—Otis Williams, Paul Williams, Eddie Kendricks, Melvin Franklin and David Ruffin.

Now 60 years later on May 15th, 2021, to commemorate and mark this historic occasion, the Temptations’ 60th Anniversary campaign is being launched and will run through June 2022. The year-long campaign includes national and international concert tours, an upcoming Anniversary album, new video series, and celebratory events along the way, including the re-opening on October 16th of the Broadway musical, Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of the Temptations, based on Otis Williams ‘personal journey plus recognition of Otis Williams’ 80th birthday on October 30th.

The Temptations’ 60-year legacy spans generations. What began in Detroit in 1961, when a remarkable combination of soulful voices united, was the genesis of an epic journey that has introduced multiple superstars to the world and produced some of the greatest musical masterpieces in the Modern Era.

Otis Williams stated, “I’ve been blessed to take this journey with Shelly Berger, my manager and dear brother, and with all my brothers-the Temptations. Now, to be the last one standing from the classic lineups can be hard sometimes, but I know God left me here for a reason, and that was to continue to share with new generations of fans, the great music that we started back in that two-story house in Detroit, known as Hitsville USA. Music is a universal language, and I know our music, throughout the years has brought people joy, comfort and sometimes even hope. I truly hope that was our greater purpose on earth. Some of the greatest moments in my life have been watching countless fans, from different walks of life worldwide, come together around any one of our songs. Reaching this milestone in my career hasn’t always been easy but it’s gratifying to know that our fans have always been there, every step of the way. I am truly grateful to each and every one of them. We, plan to go back on tour later this summer and, me and my brothers, Ron Tyson and Terry Weeks, Temptations for the past 38 years and 24 years respectively, along with Willie Greene, Jr., and Mario Corbino look forward to sharing this special anniversary with all of you.”

The Temptations story is undeniably, a road map through American history. The group’s distinguished heritage, influence and contributions to African American and American culture in general, and to the global music landscape is awe-inspiring. The Temptations were pioneers. They were among the first African American groups on mainstream television programs in the 60’s.  The phenomenal television exposure popularized their music and coupled with the support of DJs across the country, led to chart-topping success, not only on R&B lists but on Billboard Hot 100 charts too. On their renowned Motortown Revue bus tours during the height of the civil rights and voting rights movements, they often faced racism and discrimination first-hand, but they were not detoured. Instead, they raised their voices with songs that were socially relevant in the country. Many of those songs are still meaningful today. Their songs were also an inspiration to American soldiers fighting in the Vietnam War. Quite often, on concert tours, the Temptations are welcomed by Military Veterans sharing stories about the inspiring effect of their music.

In the 70’s, the rising Black middle class fueled growth in arts and entertainment for Black Artists and the Temptations were among the groups at the forefront of that wave. Their influence on mainstream and global artists, such as the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Tina Turner, Annie Lennox, Jose Feliciano, and others, is notable. Artists who have recorded Temptations’ songs these past 60 years reads like a “Who’s Who” of the music recording industry. By the 80’s, the Temptations’ resilience is visible and singular. They launch a reunion tour that unites David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks with the lineup at the time, and headline on the Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever network television special. Before the decade is out, they are inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

As the 20th Century nears its end, the Temptations send a message to the world that they like their album Phoenix Rising, will keep rising up and singing their way into the hearts of fans. They win several more awards and both “My Girl,” what many call their magnum opus, and “Papa Was A Rollin’ Stone” are inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, in 1998 and 1999, respectively. In the decades to follow in the 21st Century, the group is awarded their fourth GRAMMY for their “Top 20” R&B chart album, Ear-Resistible, awarded Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance and they receive a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, the group’s fifth GRAMMY.

In addition to The Temptations’ phenomenal catalog of music, it is worth noting that the group’s famous choreography, sophisticated style and wardrobe revolutionized stage performance in the music world forever. Their famous trademarks, the Temptations’ walk, and the well-known four-headed microphone, both inventions of their own, are indelibly stamped on their enduring legacy for eternity.

The Temptations ranked #1 in Billboard magazine’s most recent list of Greatest R&B/Hip-Hop Artists of All Time and the group appears in the magazine’s list of 125 Greatest of All Time Artists. In September of 2020, the editors of Rolling Stone magazine commented that the Temptations are “Indisputably the greatest black vocal group of the Modern Era…,” and listed the group’s Anthology album among the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. The Group has sold millions of albums and has won five Grammy Awards, including a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. The Temptations have been inducted into the Grammy, Rock and Roll, Rhythm and Blues Music, and Vocal Group Halls of Fame. They have a star on both the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the Apollo Theater’s Walk of Fame. The Temptations delivered Motown’s first-ever GRAMMY at the 11th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony in 1969 for Best Rhythm and Blues Performance by a Duo or Group, Vocal or Instrumental for the song, “Cloud Nine.” They have released countless gold, platinum and multi-platinum chart hits, many of which are considered American masterpieces. They have 16 #1 R&B chart albums, 44 Top 10 R&B chart hits, including, 14 #1 R&B singles, plus four Billboard #1 singles.

Ziggy Marley to Headline First “Concerts In Your Car” Live Concert of the Season

Legendary Reggae Musician to Pay Tribute to his Father’s Legacy on April 17 in Ventura

The music is BACK!  Concerts in Your Car returns to the Ventura County Fairgrounds with a blockbuster live concert by Ziggy Marley.  An eight-time Grammy winner, Emmy winner, guitarist, songwriter, and humanitarian, Marley will perform, along with his band, a tribute to his legendary father, Reggae Icon Bob Marley.  This year will mark the fortieth anniversary of his father’s death.
 
Ziggy Marley is known as a musical pioneer, infusing the reggae genre with funk, blues, rock, and other elements.  Marley, who is a prolific composer, usually primarily performs his own compositions.  Sets focusing on his late father’s music are a rare event.
 
Two performances are scheduled for Saturday, April 17 at 5 pm and 8:30 pm at the Ventura County Fairgrounds.  Tickets start at $99. per car for up to four passengers, with additional passenger tickets available for purchase.  The number of passengers must not exceed the number of safety belts/seats in the vehicle.  Tickets are sold in advance and online only. 
 
All “Concerts In Your Car” events include a visual light show and multi-media entertainment.  The combination of an extra high, theatre-in-the-round style, four-sided stage, and four over-sized screens ensures that every seat is the best seat in the house.  The events are designed to comply with all state and county restrictions.  Sound comes from the stage like a traditional concert and can also be heard via car stereos on an FM station.
