Deana Carter – 25th Anniversary

To celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Deana Carter’s 5X platinum debut album Did I Shave My Legs for This?, Carter announced on The Bobby Bones Show that Capitol Nashville/Ume will release Did I Shave My Legs For This? 25th Anniversary Edition on November 5, but it isn’t just Carter doing the singing this time around. The project includes two new tracks with Carter performing and producing 2021 versions of the CMA award-winning, and 2X platinum hit single “Strawberry Wine,” featuring  Lauren Alaina, Martina McBride, Ashley McBryde, Kylie Morgan, and Vince Gill on guitar, as well as the title track, featuring Terri Clark, Sara Evans, Ashley McBryde, and Vince Gill.

The 25th anniversary editions of the album have been remastered from the original recordings and will be released on CD with two bonus tracks, as well as a Digital Deluxe with an additional ten songs, seven of which will be available digitally for the first time. Pre-order/Pre-save HERE

“I am beyond blown away to see the generational connection between my first single, ‘Strawberry Wine’ and all the fans, young and seasoned,” award-winning country singer-songwriter Carter shares. “Being a part of a song that has become an anthem for the ’90s and beyond is such a blessing and more than I could’ve ever dreamed of. The fans have been the catalyst for the success of ‘Strawberry Wine’ and the whole Shave album because of their connection to the truth and realness behind the songs.

“They lived it — just like I did — and just like all of my collaborators did. It was an honor to re-record two favorites with my fellow female artists who inspire me and who I admire. These new versions are a way of raising a glass to everyone who loves these songs, and to the country radio stations still playing them, and to say thank you. I hope everyone enjoys celebrating 25 years of Did I Shave My Legs For This? as much as I’ve enjoyed putting together these very special releases.”

1997 CMA Single and Song of the Year “Strawberry Wine,” written by Matraca Berg and Gary Harrison, was also nominated for a GRAMMY for Best Country Song, the Academy of Country Music Awards Best Country Song,  and the Country Music Radio Awards for Song of the Year. Carter co-wrote the title track “Did I Shave My Legs for This?” with Rhonda Hart.

“Who knew that some girl talk would end up becoming a cultural catchphrase for decades to come? Wow! This song is proof that a genuine, heartfelt message can be delivered with a sense of humor,” she added, “yet stand firm in the conviction to not settle for less in this life. Thanks to all the ladies who have sung this anthem at the top of their lungs and to my record label for letting me boldly title my debut album so memorably.”

Other chart-toppers from Carter’s debut album included “We Danced Anyway” (co-written by Berg and Randy Scruggs),How Do I Get There” (co-written by Carter and Chris Farren), and “Count Me In” (co-written by Carter and Chuck Jones).

As part of the album’s 25th Anniversary celebration, Carter will perform on the Grand Ole Opry Saturday, October 16, as part of the Opry’s 4,998th show. To purchase tickets, click HERE

Deana Carter will also celebrate the 25th Anniversary of her 5X Platinum debut album Did I Shave My Legs for This? in her hometown of Nashville on November 18, 2021 at the historic Ryman Auditorium, with special guests Charles Esten and Breland, as well as surprise appearances from other artists. Tickets are available NOW HERE.

It is such an honor and a career highlight to finally headline The Ryman, our sacred Mother Church, especially being a Nashville native and growing up in the industry, knowing that my dad, Fred Carter, Jr., performed on that stage with so many greats, Carter says. And all falling within the 25th anniversary re-release of my very first album Did I Shave My Legs For This? on UMG Nashville. It is a pinch-me moment now, she adds, and it will be on that super special night with Charles Esten and Breland and some surprise guests too.

Country newcomer Breland recently covered the first-love love song Strawberry Wine as part of Spotify’s 90s Country campaign and will be opening for Carter at the Ryman show. Strawberry Wine was just one of those songs that transcended time, Breland said of the ballad.

Billy Ray Cyrus × Firerose – New Day

BILLY RAY CYRUS AND FIREROSE PERFORM NEW DAY ON LIVE WITH KELLY AND RYAN

WATCH PERFORMANCE HERE

Lauded by Rolling Stone as a rippy, atmospheric ballad and American Songwriter as an uplifting anthem promising the dawning of a better age, Billy Ray Cyrus and FIREROSE performed their new hit, New Day, on LIVE with Kelly and Ryan today. Click HERE to watch and click HERE to watch their interview.

This Friday, August 13, Cyrus and FIREROSE will perform New Day on the Grand Ole Opry. The performance will be FIREROSE’s debut in the world-famous sacred Circle.

Johnny Cash, June Carter Cash, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton and so many more graced this iconic stage before me, so it’s a real honor to have the opportunity to stand in that Circle with Cyrus and perform the song we wrote together that means so much at this time, where we’re all praying for a New Day,’  FIREROSE shared.

Reviewers across genres are praising New Day:

Billy Ray Cyrus never met a collaboration he didn’t like. This time, he pairs up with Australian singer FIREROSE for this trippy, atmospheric ballad about revitalization and rebirth….lending more evidence that BRC is an ever-changing musical chameleon. – Rolling Stone / Joseph Hudak & Jon Freeman

The new song is an uplifting anthem promising the dawning of a better age… combines elements of indie pop and country, creating a unique sound of two very different performers. Billy Ray Cyrus…added his ever-special country flair. – American Songwriter / Audrey Gibbs

An intriguing collaboration. With a shimmering indie pop sound, crisp beats and an uneasy vocal blend, the song is a pulsating slow jam — and its abstract video matches the vibe. Written by the country star and emerging artist over Zoom, the track features a distinctly conflicted energy, mixing light and dark at the start of a fresh cultural chapter. – Sounds Like Nashville / Lauren Laffer

It’s a hypnotic, swirling, dreamy confection, underpinned by echoey synths and slow, thumpy beats. I can hear this becoming a big pop hit. After all, he’s done it before. – Music Row / Robert K Oermann

FIREROSE’s vocals on ‘New Day’ are crystalline and crisp, and they blend well with Cyrus’ rich vocals. This collaboration is a match made in musical heaven. – Digital Journal / Markos Papadatos

About Shenandoah:

GRAMMY®, CMA and ACM-winning hitmakers Shenandoah, fueled by Marty Raybon’s distinctive vocals and the band’s skilled musicianship, are celebrated for delivering such hits as “Two Dozen Roses”, “Church on Cumberland Road” and “Next to You, Next to Me” as well as such achingly beautiful classics as “I Want to be Loved Like That” and the GRAMMY® winning “Somewhere in the Vicinity of the Heart” duet with Alison Krauss. Today that legacy continues as original members Marty Raybon and Mike McGuire launch a new chapter in Shenandoah’s storied career with their new record Every Road. Raybon and McGuire formed Shenandoah in 1984 in Muscle Shoals, Alabama with bassist Ralph Ezell, keyboardist Stan Thorn and guitarist Jim Seales. Shenandoah inked a deal with Columbia Records and began establishing a national fan base with their self-titled debut in 1987. However, it was the band’s sophomore effort, The Road Not Taken, that spawned their first top ten hits—“She Doesn’t Cry Anymore” and “Mama Knows.” Shenandoah followed with three consecutive No. 1 hits—“Church on Cumberland Road,” “Sunday in the South” and “Two Dozen Roses.” “The Church on Cumberland Road” spent two weeks at the top of the chart and made country music history as it marked the first time that a country band’s first No. 1 single spent more than one week at the summit. It also helped propel sales of the album to more than half a million units thus giving Shenandoah their first gold album. Shenandoah became known for delivering songs that celebrated the importance of faith and family while reveling in the joys of small town life. “Next to You, Next to Me” topped the charts for three weeks and “Somewhere in the Vicinity of the Heart,” a beautiful duet with Alison Krauss, won a Country Music Association Award for Vocal Event of the year and a GRAMMY® for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. Shenandoah also won the Academy of Country Music’s Vocal Group of the Year in 1991.

AUSTIN CITY LIMITS – THE MAVERICKS

By Cassandra Yany

Austin City Limits will spotlight renowned rock and country trailblazers The Mavericks on Nov. 21 at 8 p.m. CT/ 9 p.m. ET on PBS. The installment is part of the series’ 46th season and will showcase the band’s chart-topping, all Spanish-language album En Español.

The GRAMMY, CMA and ACM award-winning band reaches a career milestone with this being their first Spanish-language album, which debuted at no. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Pop Albums Chart. The genre-bending group return to their Miami roots to blend their eclecticism with a collection of Spanish language originals and traditional Latin songs that inspired them.

The four core Mavericks members— lead singer and songwriter Raul Malo, guitarist Eddie Perez, keyboardist Jerry Dale McFadden and drummer Paul Deakin— are elevated by horns, accordion and backing vocals for a powerful nine-musician combo. The band celebrates the diversity of cultures with their unique take on classic tracks from the vast Latin American catalog, starting off with the Cuban country track “La Sitiera,” which escalates to an exciting full-band bloom complete with horns and accordion.

Malo— who is a first-generation Cuban American— introduces his late grandfather’s favorite song, “Me Olvidé de Vivir” by Julio Iglesias, which the Mavericks made their own in a country rendition. He also salutes one of his own favorite artists with the mariachi-flavored spin they take on Juan Gabriel’s “No Vale La Pena.”

The group delivers thrilling performances of new originals, including “Recuerdos,” which is backed by horns, and “Suspiro Azul,” which is amplified by standout harmonies. In tribute to performing at the house that Willie Nelson built, Malo gives a solo acoustic take on Nelson’s “Blue Eyes Crying In the Rain.” The band also performed Latin-influenced tracks form their 2013 reunion album In Time, including the lush “Come Unto Me,” featuring dueling guitar and accordion solos, and the energetic, rockabilly-flavored “As Long As There’s Loving Tonight.”

“Showcasing The Mavericks first all-Spanish album on Austin City Limits during the same week as the Latin Grammy Awards is perfect timing,” said ACL executive producer Terry Lickona. “Since I became co-producer of the Latin GRAMMYs, I’ve made it my mission to bring the joy and beauty of Latin music to the ACL stage every year. This show is a great ‘primer’ for that!”

The Mavericks’ episode was recorded in September and will be the second no-audience taping of the program due to the coronavirus pandemic. This marks the group’s third appearance on the show, being their first in two decades.

During these tough times, ACL continues to provide viewers with a front row seat to live performances. The series airs weekly across the nation and full episodes are made available online for a limited time immediately following the broadcast. The second half of the Season 46 will be announced soon, with six new episodes to begin airing in January. Fans can also find exclusive songs, behind-the-scenes videos and full-length artist interviews on the ACL YouTube channel.

CMA WINNERS

Billy Ray Cyrus continues shattering records and racking up accolades as the Flatwoods, Kentucky singer/songwriter and global music icon wins the Country Music Association‘s Musical Event of the Year with Lil Nas X for “Old Town Road(Billy Ray Cyrus remix),” a song eliminated on country charts by Billboard critics for not “embracing enough elements of today’s country music.”

This is all on the on the heels of the song being certified diamond by the RIAA as Cyrus leads the pack for nominations as a country artist in the 2019 American Music Awards, yet none of the nods are in country categories. Cyrus is nominated in the all-genre Collaboration of the Year category, as well as Favorite Music Video, Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Song and Favorite Pop/Rock Song.

The CMA win follows a record-breaking year for Cyrus after he took home two MTV VMA Moonmen for Song of the Year and Best Direction, as well as two trophies at the BET Hip Hop Awards for Best Collab, Duo or Group and Single of the Year. The 2019 American Music Awards air November 24 on ABC.

The all-genre field is no stranger to Cyrus. In 1992, his first album, Some Gave All, debuted on the all-genre Billboard 200 album chart at No. 1 and stayed there for a record-breaking 17 weeks.

Not only is “Old Town Road (Billy Ray Cyrus remix)” the first song of 2019 to gain the diamond recognition, it is the first in the RIAA’s history to meet the minimum requirement of 10,000,000 units sold so quickly.

ABOUT SOUTHERN HALO

Natalia (principal songwriter, guitarist, lead vocalist), Christina (drums) and Hannah (bass) are SOUTHERN HALO.  Since their hypnotically-upbeat Country radio debut, “Little White Dress,” caught the attention of U.S. radio and press (spending eight weeks at #1 on the International Hotdisc Chart) this sibling trio has broken down doors and shattered glass ceilings.  Their sophomore single, “Rewind,” was a U.S. Top 40 MusicRow CountryBreakout™ Chart hit that also held the #1 spot on the Hotdisc Chart for two weeks.  The group’s third single, “Living Like That,” quickly found success of its own. Those three singles, from the group’s previous CD, SOUTHERN HALO (2015), further bolstered the trio’s profile. Since landing in the National Finals of the 2014 Texaco Country Showdown as the youngest competitors ever, the band has opened for Maren Morris, Phil Vassar, Deana Carter, Love and Theft, Brantley Gilbert, Eric Paslay, Tyler Farr, Parmalee, Old Dominion, American Young, Blues immortal B.B. SOUTHERN HALO

Southern Halo is comprised of three young ladies who hail from Cleveland, Mississippi. Endorsed by Gibson Guitars, the multitalented Morris sisters can all sing, play instruments and write most of their songs. Their latest country album, JUST LIKE IN THE MOVIES, showcases their passion for life and all things in between. Natalia (guitar), Christina (drums) and Hannah (bass) have been influenced by artists like Avril Lavigne, Taylor Swift and Justin Timberlake. With powerful harmonies, top-notch production and instrumentation, this trio is nearly unstoppable. Many of their songs contain strong lyrical content which is extremely current in today’s march for gender equality. One of our favorite tracks is “I Think Too Much.” It’s an ode to second guessing your initial instincts in any given situation. Another anthemic track is “Anything Is Possible,” a motivational piece of art that’s about breaking glass ceilings in order to progress to the next level.

In short, Southern Halo is an intellectually sophisticated group of youthful women who know what they want and are determined to get it.
