AUSTIN CITY LIMITS-CIMAFUNK & THE TRIBE Premieres

AUSTIN CITY LIMITS-CIMAFUNK & THE TRIBE Premieres NOV. 12 (PBS) -“Afro-Cuban Funk Sensations Thrill in Ecstatic Hour”

“a churning cyclone of sound …an ecstatic blur of hard funk, island rhythms and copious swagger. one of the most euphoric sets in “ACL” history. a performance that cements Cimafunk’s status as a rising global phenom”  Austin Statesman

Austin City Limits (ACL) fans will be on their feet for a supercharged hour showcasing Afro-Cuban funk sensation Cimafunk. Hailing from Havana Cuba, the celebrated showman and his eight-piece powerhouse band, The Tribe, make a thrilling ACL debut with standouts from Cimafunk’s acclaimed album El Alimento. The new installment rounds out the first half of ACL’s Season 48 and premieres November 12 at 8pm CT/9pm ET. The complete line-up for the full broadcast season will be announced shortly, with new episodes premiering beginning January 7, 2023. The program, recorded live at ACL’s studio home in Austin, Texas, continues its run as the longest-running music television show in history, providing viewers a front-row seat to the best in live performance for 48 years as the music institution nears a remarkable half-century milestone. ACL airs weekly on PBS stations nationwide (check local listings) and full episodes are made available to stream online at pbs.org/austincitylimits immediately following the initial broadcast.  The show’s official hashtag is #acltv.

In a remarkable ACL debut, Cimafunk & The Tribe deliver an electric, unique blend of high-energy funk, Caribbean rhythms and Afrobeat. Cimafunk and his band are earning raves for their incredible live performances tearing up stages across the globe. The freewheeling set explodes with a spectacular James Brown-influenced rhythm for the blazing “Relajao,” with Cimafunk flexing his dazzling vocals and radiant starpower alongside dance moves from percussionists Big Happy and Machete, a finger-busting bass solo from Caramelo, horns (and backing vocals) from Hilaria and Katy Cacao, and a merciless groove from drummer Dr. Zapa. “Put your hands up!” Cimafunk exclaims as he introduces “Funk Aspirin,” the band’s collaboration with funk legend George Clinton which opens 2021’s widely-hailed El Alimento. “Never forget,” the sweat-soaked Cimafunk laughs as the set reaches a fever pitch, “Shake that booty!” They close with “Me Voy,” the 2018 hit that made Cimafunk a household name in Cuba, bringing lucky audience members onstage and taking the groove to the next level.

“Cimafunk’s ACL debut was breathtaking,” says ACL executive producer Terry Lickona “He barely took a breath himself, and for that matter neither did the crowd, which was too busy dancing and screaming themselves. It was one of those rare shows where the performer and audience literally came together as one.”

“Austin is starting to feel like home away from home, and I wanted to bring the energy to Austin City Limits,” says Cimafunk. “It got really funky and sweaty in there with a lot of groove!”

Dolly Parton and James Patterson via Blockchain Creative Labs for use by 360 Magazine

Dollyverse

Leading up to the eagerly awaited releases of her original novel, Run, Rose, Run, co-written with best-selling author James Patterson, and its companion album, global superstar and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominee Dolly Parton is partnering with FOX Entertainment’s Blockchain Creative Labs (BCL) to launch Dollyverse—an audience-centric Web3 experience, at the South by Southwest® (SXSW®) Conference and Festivals starting next week.

To promote the debut of Run, Rose, Run, Parton will make her first-ever appearance at SXSW on March 18, when she and Patterson will speak about the project at Austin City Limits Live at The Moody Theater.  Emmy and Golden Globe Award nominee Connie Britton (The White Lotus, Nashville, Friday Night Lights) will moderate the conversation with Parton and Patterson.  Immediately afterwards, she will give a live performance featuring songs from Run, Rose, Run, along with a few of her hits.  Scheduled to open for Parton and Patterson are Kovic, Callie Twisselman, Electra Mustaine, and The Brothers Moore. The entire event will be streamed live for free on “Dollyverse” by Eluvio, which also will power the “Dollyverse’s” NFT sales.

The “Dollyverse” will release an exclusive selection of official and certified Dolly NFT collectibles, including limited-edition NFTs of the Run, Rose, Run music album and a limited series of Dolly-inspired NFT artwork, for purchase during and after SXSW.  In-person attendees at Parton’s performance will be able to claim a free NFT, while fans streaming the event will be able to receive tokens authenticating their participation.

“There’s almost nothing more important to me than connecting with my fans.  And I’m almost always up for trying something new and different,” said Parton.  “I’d say releasing NFTs at my first-ever appearance at SXSW, with James Patterson by my side, definitely counts as new and different!”

“Yet again Dolly is at the top of her craft,” said Danny Nozell, Parton’s manager.  “Her goal with new music has always been to use her gifts to connect with people.  This partnership with BCL at SXSW, and the launch of ‘Dollyverse,’ provide her a totally new way to do that.”

“I am a huge Dolly Parton fan.  Who isn’t?  She is a national treasure, whose important contributions to the world transcend her incredible work as an entertainer,” said Scott Greenberg, CEO of BCL.  “Dolly is a true pioneer who brings the highest level of quality, heart and authenticity to everything she touches, which is why she’s the perfect person to introduce to the mainstream audience an easy-to-use, Web3 experience that will live stream her SXSW event and provide them the opportunity own and enjoy her music — not just a right to stream it – all designed to bring Dolly even closer to her fans.”

“Dolly Parton’s participation in SXSW 2022 fulfills one of our longtime goals and we’re absolutely ecstatic to have her involved in this year’s event in such a unique way,” said Hugh Forrest, Chief Programming Officer for SXSW.  “Beyond her legendary status in the music industry, Dolly embodies the SXSW spirit as she extends her unique brand of creativity across many verticals. Most importantly, Dolly serves as an inspirational and unifying role model for millions of fans—spanning different ages, occupations, and viewpoints–-from all over the world.”

This song is about seizing a moment you share with someone you love, a singular experience you want to replay in your head over and over. We hope this reimagined version captures that exhilarating feeling in a new way,” said Moon Taxi

ALLISON PONTHIER – LATE BLOOMER

ALLISON PONTHIER’S NEW SINGLE, “LATE BLOOMER,” IS OUT TODAY

WATCH THE VISUALIZER HERE

Fresh off a tour with Lord Huron, a festival performance at Austin City Limits, and the release of her debut EP, Faking My Own Death (Interscope Records), Allison Ponthier returns with a simmering, swampy anthem for those who need a little time to come to terms with their sexuality. While her debut single, “Cowboy,” dealt with the difficulties of coming out, “Late Bloomer” portrays the process as a joyful one. Listen HERE.

“‘Late Bloomer’ is about how much fun coming out is. A lot of people describe it as going through a second puberty. You learn a lot about yourself,” explains Allison Ponthier. “That’s why when people come out, they often change how they look aesthetically. They try new things and make new friends. ‘Late Bloomer’ is really about celebrating that. It’s about the reward you get for finally being brave enough to be yourself. There’s no rush. There will always be people there who are ready for you whenever you’re ready.”

The 25-year-old Texas-born, Brooklyn-based artist wrote “Late Bloomer” with Ethan Gruska (Phoebe Bridgers, Trombone Shorty) and Dan Wilson (Adele, Leon Bridges), who also produced the song. The accompanying visualizer, which takes its inspiration from Little Shop of Horrors and “as-seen-on-TV” marketing, introduces a Muppet-like “late bloomer” plant, skilled at skateboarding, karaoke, tattoo art and more. View HERE.

“It’s basically just about being a bad boy, which I always wish I was,” she confesses.

Ponthier and Lord Huron are featured in the first video installment of Consequence of Sound’s new series, “Two for the Road,” which features conversations with artists who are touring together. View HERE. Check out their recent collaboration, “I Lied,” HERETipping Ponthier as one of the “Artists Guaranteed to Turn Heads at ACL Fest,” The Austin Chronicle said, “The touches of pop linger in a swaying haze that cabarets her country-leaning melodies, resulting in the kind of surreal Western pop that swells the sense of dislocation and uncertainty while beckoning warmly to follow.”

Growing up as a wide-eyed misfit in the Lone Star State, Ponthier dreamed of running away to New York City. When she made the move to Brooklyn at age 20, she felt out-of-place in a new way – like a goody-two-shoes Southerner in the epicenter of East Coast hipsterdom. The corresponding internal journey has inspired the string of reflective, idiosyncratic yet relatable songs found on Faking My Own Death, hailed as “stellar” by NME.

RUFUS DU SOL × ALIVE

RÜFÜS DU SOL Return With New Single ‘Alive’ Listen Here

North American 2021 Fall Tour Touching Down in Las Vegas, Phoenix, Houston and Dallas this November On the Back of 70,000 Tickets Sold for LA Banc of California Shows

RÜFÜS DU SOL have been quiet. Quietly looking inwards, quietly crafting a new world to explore with their fans, quietly relearning what it means to be Alive…

Today the band continues its legacy as global leaders of the live-electronic movement, releasing the first new music since their Grammy nominated 2018 ‘SOLACE’ album. “Alive,” out now on Rose Avenue and Reprise / Warner Records, is a transcendent take from a group that have built a career on defying expectations – listen HERE.

Premiered today on The Zane Lowe Show, “Alive” is adorned with haunting lyricism and inventive broken beat percussion, encapsulating the highs and lows of a lost but not forgotten year. RÜFÜS’ lead singer Tyrone calls out with a sense of urgent and naked emotion, these are intensely personal lyrics for him, yet they encapsulate the feelings many of us have endured the past year.

“Alive” is the initial taste of what the band’s reemergence sounds like; a retention of the darkness they have consistently explored, notably on ‘SOLACE,’ paired with a glistening energy aimed to uplift and uphold their dedication to wowing larger than life dance floors.

“Alive” begins to sculpt the first look into a new world for the band and their fans to cohabitate, a continuation of the exploration of place that defines the way they write and perform music. From their debut album recorded on the coast of Australia, onwards to the brooding ‘BLOOM’ written in the streets of techno mecca Berlin, to ‘SOLACE’s glimpse of the darker side of Los Angeles, the trio now push outwards, less bound by Geographical location, to the wider reaches of space and time.

In Tyrone Lindqvist of the band’s own words, It’s a heavier song in some ways, but at its core it’s hopeful. We are – all of us – living in this transitional moment right now and we wanted to focus on the hope that the future holds for us all. To focus on the light at the end of this tunnel.

This announcement comes alongside the reveal of the band’s North American Fall Tour, touching down at Las Vegas’ Downtown Las Vegas Events Center, Phoenix’s Arizona Federal Theatre, Dallas’ The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory and a to-be-announced venue in Houston.

RÜFÜS have already experienced an immense demand for their live return, selling 70,000 tickets in three days for their largest headlining shows to date at Los Angeles Banc of California Stadium. The on sale was a true barometer for just how deeply fans crave the sonic escapism RÜFÜS work to deliver at every show.  This banner moment joins two sold out nights at Red Rocks Amphitheater in August, and a bevy of headlining festival appearances already announced including Governors Ball, Austin City Limits, III Points and more. General tickets go on sale July 16th at 10am local time in each market – purchase tickets HERE.

Joy Oladokun – In Defense of My Own Happiness

Joy Oladokun debuts new song, judas, from the deluxe album in defense of my own happiness (complete).

Breakthrough singer, songwriter and musician Joy Oladokun’s new deluxe album, in defense of my own happiness (complete), is out today via Amigo Records/Verve Forecast/Republic Records. The special extended edition includes all 14 tracks from her major label debut, in defense of my own happiness, as well as the ten additional songs from her self-released 2020 record, in defense of my own happiness (the beginnings), and one new track, judas.

In celebration of the new music, Oladokun will be featured on NPR’s “All Things Considered” this afternoon speaking with host Ari Shapiro, and recently made her debut on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert performing sunday from Nashville’s newly opened National Museum of African American Music.

Released last month via Amigo Records/Verve Forecast/Republic Records, in defense of my own happiness finds Oladokun forging her own path, sharing the unique perspective she’s gained from living in today’s world as a black, queer woman and first-generation child of Nigerian immigrants. Born in Arizona and now living in Nashville, her musical exploration began at age ten when she was inspired to learn guitar after seeing a video of Tracy Chapman—the first time she’d ever seen a black woman play the instrument.

Recently named one of the “Best Albums of 2021 So Far” by Rolling Stone and Variety, and one of Billboard’s “Best Albums by LGBTQ Artists of 2021 So Far,” in defense of my own happiness features special collaborations with Maren Morris (Bigger Man), Jensen McRae (wish you the best) and Penny & Sparrow (heaven from here) and continues to receive widespread critical praise:

“She has a remarkable ability to distill how forces at work in the world…she can make even social and political protest feel like an intimate, warmly human act”—NPR Music

“a serious talent with a kind of low-key, casual ease…she’s always seeking out the light to point the way, making for one of the year’s most uplifting listens.”—Rolling Stone

“one of the hottest new singer-songwriters making music…surgical songwriting and soulful vocals that will send chills down your spine on each repeat listen.”—Billboard

“Joy Oladokun is a rare talent who manages to dissect Christianity, queerness, race and mental wellness with a delicate yet determined touch”—Vogue

“Oladokun’s message is not only timely, but essential.”—them.

“a stunning major label debut…any Nashville musician worth their salt should be pinching themselves to work with Oladokun, among the most exciting talents this city has seen in years.”—The Tennessean

“the rising singer-songwriter proves her worth as a master storyteller”—American Songwriter

Furthering her breakout year, Oladokun will tour throughout the fall including upcoming performances at Newport Folk Festival, Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, and Austin City Limits as well as several dates supporting Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit and Dermot Kennedy.

Oladokun has continued to receive widespread attention in the past year, including recent performances of album track, breathe again, on NBC’s TODAY and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The song also received a key placement on NBC’s This Is Us, propelling the track to reach #3 on Shazam’s U.S. Top 200 while also charting globally. Additionally, Oladokun has been named a member of the inaugural #YouTubeBlack Voices Class of 2021, an NPR Music/Slingshot’s 2021 Artists to Watch, a Billboard LGBTQ Artist of the Month, Spotify’s RADAR US: Artists to Watch 2021, Amazon Music’s Artists to Watch 2021 and Vogue’s #1 New LGBTQ Artists to Listen to Now, and was recently highlighted as part of HULU’s “Your Attention Please: The Concert ” alongside 24kGoldn, Kiana Ledé, Lil Yachty, and Swae Lee. In addition to This Is Us, her music has been featured on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, ABC’s Station 19 and NBC’s America’s Got Talent. Oladokun also recently teamed up with the ever-popular life simulation game The Sims™ 4 as part of their first-ever in-game music event alongside Bebe Rexha and Glass Animals.

Toosii – f**k marry kill

Today, the Syracuse-born, North Carolina-raised rapper Toosii shares a luxurious video for “f**k marry kill,” a single from his latest project Thank You For Believing, out now via South Coast Music Group/Capitol Records. The visual – which follows a similarly lush clip for “Red Die” – finds the rising rap star embracing opulence, surrounded by beautiful women, glimmering jewels, and an inviting pool. Watch here.

The “f**k marry kill” video offers Toosii a chance to celebrate his recent successes as he lives large in a lavish mansion, surrounded by women in bikinis. It’s a fitting pairing for the track’s floating melodies and effortless cool.

The video is appropriately celebratory given that Toosii has recently marked some huge career milestones. His relentless work ethic and undeniable run of vivid, emotional tracks earned him a spot in the 2021 XXL Freshman Class. It’s a coveted honor for any rapper, and it speaks to the growing acclaim for Toosii across the industry. Thank You For Believing garnered praise from critics and tastemakers like The Fader, Complex, The Source, UPROXX, HotNewHipHop, and more.

Tickets are on sale here for the Thank You for Believing tour – Toosii’s first-ever U.S. headline outing. He will also perform at numerous festivals, including Rolling Loud, Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits.

Toosii also recently surpassed one billion combined global streams across all of his songs, proof that his music is resonating with listeners too. Between the release of Thank You For Believing, the staggering success of its singles, and his appearance on XXL’s 2021 Freshman Class, Toosii is already well on his way to becoming a superstar. But he’ll be the first to admit that all of this hustle is just the beginning.

“I’m extremely excited to bring this new project out on the road. These songs were made to be played LIVE,” shares Shaw. “It’s going to be very interesting to see how they evolve with the addition of a very important ingredient to the mix. All of you! I can’t wait to see all those faces I’ve missed over this past year. You know who you are! See you all real soon!”

Produced by Jack Splash (4-time Grammy award-winning producer of Kendrick Lamar, Alicia Keys, Solange, Valerie June, St Paul and The Broken Bones), the recently released 12-track LP showcases Shaw’s true self, exemplifying his hard-working and courageous nature as he placed a renewed focus on self-care and personal growth – PRESS HERE to listen. With his new music, The Revivalists front man and enigmatic talent follows the direction of his own internal compass as a solo artist, riling up his raw rock n roll impulses as he opens up like never before as a lyricist, poet, and storyteller. David Shaw features the singles “Got Me Feeling Good,” “Heavy Soul,” “Shivers,” “Shaken” and “Promised Land,” which have collectively garnered nearly three million streams and received early support from Billboard, SPIN, NPR, Rolling Stone, and American Songwriter. In addition to Howard and Gelbuda, Shaw’s backing band on the album also features Neal Francis [vocals/guitar] and Mike Starr [bass].

Tomorrow, Friday, June 4, Shaw will conclude his 5-show weekly livestream series “From The City To The Swamp” via Mandolin at Chicago’s legendary venue The Metro with a performance featuring new songs from the album, deep cuts, acoustic versions, and more. Shaw initially planted the seeds for his new solo songs as he toured behind The Revivalists’ acclaimed album Take Good Care, playing to sold-out venues and their biggest festival crowds to date (including opening for The Rolling Stones). In addition to their platinum breakout single “Wish I Knew You” and four studio albums, the chart-topping band has racked up 525 million global streams, numerous Alternative and Triple A chart hits including several #1s, and major media recognition and TV appearances including Austin City LimitsThe Late Show with Stephen ColbertEllen, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and TODAY. Shaw also spearheaded the creation of The Revivalists’ Rev Causes, the band’s philanthropic umbrella fund which supports the essential work of organizations handpicked by the band dedicated to reviving and investing in our communities, health, and environment. These organizations include Center for Disaster Philanthropy, National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Songs for Kids Foundation, Upturn Arts, Everytown for Gun Safety, and more. As a proud Ohio native, David also created, produces, and hosts the Big River Get Down in Hamilton, OH, – an annual two-night concert event that gives back to the ongoing renaissance of his hometown, donating all proceeds to the City of Hamilton’s 4 of July fireworks and RiversEdge Concert Series.

This summer, The Revivalists will return to the stage with back-to-back reduced capacity shows at Red Rocks Amphitheatre on June 10 and 11 with Neal Francis supporting. The acclaimed eight-piece band is also set to perform at Railbird Festival in Lexington, KY on August 28 and at The Fillmore in New Orleans on October 16 for Jazz Fest.
