THE GREETING COMMITTEE NEW SINGLE × VIDEO – FLOAT AWAY

Today marks the premiere of The Greeting Committee’s emotionally revealing new single “Float Away” and its equally riveting animated video. Released via Harvest Records, the Kansas City-based alt-rock band’s latest offers an up-close and unguarded look at the way depression warps our self-image. Listen to “Float Away” here, and check out the video here.

Along with today’s release, the band has revealed the September 24 release date for their second studio album Dandelion. All singles and the full album were produced by Jennifer Decilveo (MARINA, FLETCHER, Bat for Lashes)and mixed by Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips, Tame Impala). Pre-order Dandelion here.

Anchored by a gorgeously airy vocal performance from frontwoman Addie Sartino, “Float Away” opens on a candid piece of confession: “Glad it’s raining so I don’t have to go outside and pretend I’m happy just to be alive.” With production from Jennifer Decilveo (MARINA, FLETCHER, Bat for Lashes), the track unfolds in fuzzed-out riffs, frenetic rhythms, and incandescent textures as Sartino documents her inner turmoil with an intense level of detail. “There’s a line in the chorus that says, ‘Stale rye, once an apple’s eye,’ which is a way of saying, ‘I used to have so much potential, and now I’m sitting here frozen, and I don’t know what to do with myself,’” she notes.

After slipping into a moment of anti-nostalgia (“Haven’t felt this since/Listening to the 1975 while getting high/In somebody’s basement party”), “Float Away” closes out with another bit of personal revelation: “Treading water’s getting harder/Don’t let me fall another martyr.” But despite its undeniable melancholy, “Float Away” embodies a strangely exhilarating energy thanks to the stormy urgency of The Greeting Committee’s sound and the pure catharsis of its uncompromising honesty.

Created by illustrator/animator Kezia Gabriella, the video for “Float Away” perfectly captures the track’s whirlwind of feeling. The beautifully offbeat and brightly colorful visual follows Sartino’s avatar through a series of gently articulated emotional states – isolation, disconnection, overwhelmed confusion – and ultimately finds her rediscovering a subtle yet powerful sense of hope.

“Float Away” follows The Greeting Committee’s recent single “Can I Leave Me Too?”, which premiered last month alongside its intimate and quietly captivating video. Hailed by Clash as a “a raw portrayal of post-break-up poignance, cloaked in indie pop reverb,” “Can I Leave Me Too?” arrived as the band’s first release since appearing in Netflix’s To All the Boys: Always and Forever and contributing three of their songs to the film’s soundtrack.

About The Greeting Committee

Comprised of Addie Sartino, Brandon Yangmi, Pierce Turcotte, and Austin Fraser, The Greeting Committee have fully embraced a spirit of purposeful sharing since their formation in 2014. Founded soon after Sartino and Yangmi got their start playing open-mic nights in Kansas City, the band self-released their debut EP It’s Not All That Bad in fall 2015. The EP’s lead single “Hands Down” quickly became a breakout hit, paving the way for The Greeting Committee’s signing to Harvest Records when they were all still in high school. After making their Harvest debut with the Meeting People Is Easy EP in 2017 and releasing their debut album This Is It in 2018, the band spent much of the next few years on the road, with sold-out headline shows in major markets such as Chicago, Austin, New York, Los Angeles, and Minneapolis. To date, they’ve toured with the likes of Bombay Bicycle Club, Tennis, Hippo Campus, and Rainbow Kitten Surprise and taken the stage at leading festivals like Lollapalooza and SXSW, in addition to delivering the I’m Afraid I’m Not Angry EP in late 2019 and appearing in Netflix’s To All the Boys: Always and Forever. The band’s second album Dandelion will be out on September 24 via Harvest Records.

A retrospective breakup song imagining the end of a relationship and the inability to cope, “This Is Not A Love Song” paints an exaggerated picture of NoMBe drowning in sorrow, juxtaposed by dreamy imagery of him in the afterlife. PRESS HERE to watch the video Directed By B and PRESS HERE to check out the premiere on Complex who call the track a “dreamy pop banger.”

“I love how this music video turned out for its simplicity,” shares NoMBe. “We shot in Hawaii during a really rainy period and luckily found a nice day to knock this one out. Sam Fischer x Demi Lovato “What Other People Say”

Following the huge success of his global smash hit This City and recent project HomeworkSam Fischer has teamed up with Demi Lovato to release his new single What Other People Say  out now via RCA Records. Listen HERE.

Written by Sam before his single This City became a hit, it was a song he always knew would be a duet. Sam was blown away when Demi Lovato became the perfect person to accompany him on vocals. What Other People Say was written about feeling alone and not wanting to let people down. The pairing takes two different lives and perspectives and unites them into one message of human experience, emotion and togetherness, so they are alone with one another in the song. It is a truly special track with a powerful, moving and relatable chorus. It is the next official single release for Sam since This City.

Sam says; “What Other People Say is a confession, realizing how far away you can get from who you are in an effort to be liked. It’s about the pressures of society and how getting caught up with the wrong things can change you.”

Demi says; “This song is a reflection on what it’s like to lose who you truly are in an effort to please other people and society.  It’s why I wanted to make this song with Sam – ultimately it’s about two humans coming together to connect and find solutions to their problems.”

Alongside the announcement of the single, Sam Fischer has also shared that he has been chosen as YouTube’s first ‘Artist on the Rise’ for 2021, following previous winners Mabel, Aitch, Freya Ridings, Mahalia, Beabadoobee and Celeste.

About Sam Fischer:

Always wearing his heart on his sleeve and with sincerity in both his lyrics and conversations, Sam Fischer released his project Homework last year. This project is a cathartic body of work, acknowledging the moments in life that Sam has struggled to deal with, and how these situations have changed him for the better.

Beginning as a TikTok sensation and quickly cementing itself in hearts and heads around the world, the emotive and heartfelt This City now stands at over 350 million worldwide streams, over 2 million worldwide sales and over 50 million video views. It has been certified Platinum in the UK with a Top 20 chart position, which steadily climbed over 19 weeks, and was also nominated for ‘Song of the Year’ at the 2020 Aria Awards. It was also a top 5 UK Airplay record, receiving radio support from Radio 1, Radio 2 (B List), Capital, Virgin and Bauer; alongside TV performances on Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Late Late Show with James Corden and The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Australian born Sam Fischer first introduced himself with his Not A Hobby EP and has garnered incredible attention through his soulful voice and heartfelt lyrics. Touring North America with his friend Lewis Capaldi, he wowed crowds with his buoyant personality and pure love and talent for song-writing. Now based in LA, he not only has received acclaim for his own work, but he continues to solidify his spot as one of the hottest current writers, having worked with global pop superstars including Ciara, Lennon Stella, Louis Tomlinson, Elle King, Jessie J, Virginia To Vegas, and many more.

Jacob Banks – Stranger

Jacob Banks, a Nigerian-born singer based out of the U.K., released a brand new song Wednesday titled “Stranger.”

The song comes with a new music video depicting the emotions of growing apart from a loved one and putting the pieces back together once it’s over. Banks sings, “Stranger, once upon a time we were the chorus.” You can see the video by clicking right here.

Sillkey co-produced the song with Banks, and the two use R&B and progressive electronic synths to build to an eruption of strings and keys.

Banks also directed and starred in the music video himself. He places himself and the female co-lead close enough to touch, but something non-physical continues to prevent them from reaching each other.

Banks is fresh off a feature on Grace Carter‘s “Blame.” He also recently covered the Alicia Keys hit “Like You’ll Never See Me Again.”

He has only ascended since his 2018 album “Village,” which cracked VIBE’s list of the 30 best albums of 2018. It It featured critically acclaimed songs like “Slow Up” and “Nostalgia.”

Already having performed at Coachella, SXSW and Lollapalooza, Banks will look to continue his massive success.

Yoshi Flower releases New Song and Video

Yoshi Flower comes back with the latest track “Validation”, out now on Rock Mafia/Interscope Records. Earlier this year Paper Magazine named Yoshi Flower as one of their 100 names worth getting to know in advance. Check out the video shot in Southern California, HERE

The up-tempo, electronic/trap tune begins with Yoshi delicately singing “you’re so beautiful to me, can’t you see,” however, the song is not as sweet as his voice sounds. His lyrics debate the constant feeling we seek out more than ever in the era of social media – “validation.” Although the internet allows us to easily connect with others and access endless information, the dark side can be unsettling. Yoshi goes on to sing “I just spent a ticket on these new dress clothes, you’re not impressed though…just searching for validation…” The nostalgic visual, directed by Alex McDonnell, serves as a metaphor for how everything comes full circle. We’re all on a constant ride of wanting acceptance from one another. Yoshi ends the track the way he began, singing, “but you don’t need no validation. Baby ‘cause, you’re so beautiful to me, can’t you see.”

Last year Yoshi Flower signed to Interscope Records, released his debut mixtape titled, American Raver, toured with blackbear, Elohim, SG Lewis and opened for Dua Lipa. This year, he played his first 5-city headline tour, a string of showcases at SXSW and just last week, wrapped up a sold-out tour opening for K-Rap group, Epik High. Additionally, he released “Dirty Water,” which premiered on HYPEBEAST and led to L’Officiel calling the track a “demonstrative of Flower’s ability to transcend multiple genres of music, as he continues to elevate his eclectic sound by blending hip hop with electronic-pop, creating music that is not only of the moment but is uniquely his.” Yoshi continues to work on new music and is set to play Lollapalooza in August.

From Austin she taped an interview for NPR‘s All Things Considered, which just aired. She was deemed “a voice for the voiceless,” as well as one of the top acts to catch by the Austin Chronicle. Earlier this year, her album The Capitalist Blues was included in New York Times playlist, NPR Music.

NPRs World Cafe premiered the music video for the song ‘Money Is King’. She also performed on WNYC Soundcheck, sat down for Salon Q&A, and performed for World Cafe9. Leyla will also be performing the album live at New Orleans Jazz Festival next month, as she wraps up a worldwide tour. You can watch her perform “Money Is King

Along with her own album, Leyla is a member of critically acclaimed super group ‘Songs Of Our Native Daughters.’ The band is compromised of four black women McCalla, Allison Russell, Amythyst Kiah, and Rhiannon Giddens — re-writing and reclaiming the history of American folk music. The band has been featured in TIME, Rolling Stone, and the Washington Post, as well as a 5-star review in The Guardian.
