The Greeting Committee × Can I Leave Me Too

Today, Kansas City-based alt-rock band The Greeting Committee return with their raw and radiant new single “Can I Leave Me Too?” and its accompanying video. Released via Harvest Records, the track is a bracingly intimate portrait of post-breakup grief, revealing frontwoman Addie Sartino’s gift for bringing the listener all the way into the world inside her head. This will be the band’s first release following their recent appearance in Netflix’s To All the Boys: Always and Forever, along with three of their songs on the soundtrack.

Produced by Jennifer Decilveo (MARINA, FLETCHER, Bat for Lashes) and mixed by Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips), “Can I Leave Me Too?” opens on a lyric that precisely captures the cruel haze of heartbreak: “Why does everybody drive the same car you do?/I’m scared of myself without you.” “My girlfriend drives a Nissan Rogue, and after we broke up I felt like I couldn’t go anywhere without seeing that car,” says Sartino. “I remember thinking, ‘There’s no way there are this many Nissan Rogues in Kansas City’ — but I think that’s a pretty universal thing to have happen when you’re going through a breakup.”

Sparked from a demo created by Greeting Committee bassist Pierce Turcotte, “Can I Leave Me Too?” ultimately took the form of a sprawling alt-pop epic. From its fuzzed-out intro to the bridge’s beautifully dizzying breakdown, the track’s lushly textured sound makes for a perfect backdrop to Sartino’s confession (e.g., “I’m filthy, clingy, and creepy for you always”). “That song holds a lot of desperation — it’s definitely about that moment when your self-esteem is just gone,” she notes. To that end, “Can I Leave Me Too?” pulls off the incredible feat of transforming its gut-punching chorus lyric into an irresistibly catchy hook: “If you leave me, can I leave me too?/I’m afraid that I might need you.”

Co-directed by Sartino and Malik Lemonthe, the video for “Can I Leave Me Too?” opens on Sartino lying alone in bed, then cycles through a series of spellbinding close-ups: Sartino brushing her teeth in front of her bathroom mirror, meandering along empty city streets, and — in a particularly brilliant sequence of repeat shots — brushing her teeth as she wanders the world. The result is an understated exploration of how time drags when we’re devastated, each day blurring into the next.

Comprised of Addie Sartino, Brandon Yangmi, Pierce Turcotte and Austin Fraser, the spirit of purposeful sharing has served as something of a lifeline for The Greeting Committee. Formed in 2014, soon after Sartino and Yangmi got their start playing local open-mic nights, the band self-released their debut EP It’s Not All That Bad in fall 2015. The EP’s lead single “Hands Down” quickly became a breakout hit, paving the way for The Greeting Committee’s signing to Harvest Records when they were all still in high school.

After making their Harvest debut with the Meeting People Is Easy EP in 2017 and the subsequent release of This Is It, the band spent much of the next few years on the road, with sold-out headline shows in major markets such as Chicago, Austin, New York, Los Angeles and Minneapolis. To date, they’ve toured with the likes of Bombay Bicycle Club, Tennis, Hippo Campus, and Rainbow Kitten Surprise and taken the stage at leading festivals like Lollapalooza and SXSW, in addition to delivering the I’m Afraid I’m Not Angry EP in late 2019 and appearing in Netflix’s To All the Boys: Always and Forever. The coming months have a lot more in store from the band.

George O’Hanlon – The Weight

Singer-songwriter George O’Hanlon released his new single, “The Weight” on Harvest Records. Listen HERE.

Following on from his acclaimed debut single, “The Storm,” “The Weight” is an intense, slow burning piece of music, comprising an elegant guitar refrain, evocative strings and centered on George’s powerful vocal. It’s a song with a real emotional depth which draws the listener in.

“‘The Weight’ is a song about trying to be there for someone even if you’re not around and haven’t been for a while” George elaborates. “Or it’s about falling out of love with someone but wanting to stay with them because of the good parts of the relationship. Or it’s about falling in love with someone but you’re not sure they feel the same way back. Or it’s about none of those things or maybe all of them.”

The release of the single coincides with George’s debut Mahogany session. Featuring stripped back performances of both “The Storm” and “The Weight,” the session is a brilliant showcase of George’s power as a live performer.

Even though O’Hanlon is still only just starting out he’s already picking up early support from the likes of Abi McMcarthy at BBC Introducing and Jack Saunders at Radio 1.

Inspired by the likes of Bob Dylan, Jeff Buckley and Thom Yorke, O’Hanlon’s song-writing is both literary and deeply personal, incorporating his own life experiences into his work while framing them from different perspectives.

Over the last few years O’Hanlon has been refining his playing and songwriting and is now ready to share his music with the world. Following a few early gigs on the college circuit, George expanded out into a series of shows at grassroots venues, adding additional players to his live show and honing his live performance.

Given the sheer power of his music, O’Hanlon looks set to establish himself as an exciting new talent throughout 2021!

Subdued, world-weary stringsߪutterly ethereal. -Billboard

Today, singer/songwriter Lauren Auder releases her epic and exhilarating new single Animal via True Panther and Harvest Records. Made with up-and-coming producer mmph, Animal showcases the lavishly inventive sound and commanding vocal presence that have made Auder one of 2020’s most exciting breakout artists.

Download/stream Animal HERE.

Although it unfolds with a powerful splendor, Animal first began as an a cappella voice memo saved on Auder’s phone, its lyrics both self-effacing and defiant. In her collaboration with mmph (a classically trained musician known for his orchestration work on David Byrne’s American Utopia), Auder transformed her raw outpouring into a piano-driven ballad that perfectly spotlights her kaleidoscopic sensibilities. To that end, Animal mines inspiration from the moody volatility of seminal industrial acts like Current 93 while also revealing the more timeless elements of her musicality (I’m a sucker for a classic piano song, she points out).

Animal serves as the follow-up to Auder’s recent single Quiet, a stormy and spellbinding track that premiered in early October, hailed by Idolator as a deceptively majestic love song. The track was written by Auder and produced by Danny L Harle (Charli XCX, Caroline Polachek, Superfruit). Originally from Albi (a town in Southwestern France), Auder creates emotionally potent and transportive pop music inspired by everything from hip-hop to post-rock to classical. With a sound akin to Scott Walker singing Lorde songs, Auder’s distinct aesthetic was first glimpsed on her critically lauded 2018 debut EP Who Carry’s You. Released in March 2020, her sophomore EP two caves in delivered the widely adored singles june 14th and meek, two tracks centered on Auder’s intricate lyricism and mesmerizing vocals.

With her live experience including international tours with Christine and the Queens and Amen Dunes, Auder has also emerged as a captivating new presence in the fashion world, working for the likes of Gucci and being tapped as the face for Hedi Slimane’s debut collection for Celine in 2018.

Listen to Animal above, and stay tuned for more from Lauren Auder coming soon.

Donna Missal – Just Like You

In her new video, “Just Like You,” Donna Missal is a playful shapeshifter, morphing from garage band singer to angel to heartsick lover to dark butterfly. Yet amid all the roles she plays, Donna’s singular style shines bright in the clip, making it clear that there is no one quite like her. “Just Like You” is the latest in a series of videos to accompany songs from her new album, Lighter (Harvest Records). She directed the video with Erica Hernandez, the photographer who shot the album cover and the photographs for Donna’s press campaign. The two edited the video along with Marco Rosas. View “Just Like You” HERE. Donna has amassed over 35 million global streams in her career to date.

“Directed by me and Erica, a story about the devil and angel on your shoulder.” –Donna Missal

Donna teamed up with producer AG (Christina Perri, Aloe Blacc) to record Cigarettes After Sex’s “Nothing’s Gonna Hurt You Baby” for the Promising Young Woman: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. Listen HERE. Fans who pre-order the album in digital format will instantly receive “Nothing’s Gonna Hurt You Baby” plus Cyn’s “Drinks.” Focus Features will release the Sundance hit Promising Young Woman on Christmas Day, Friday, December 25, 2020 in theaters.

Entertainment Voice said, “[With] “Just Like You,” Missal has transitioned elegantly from R&B-adjacent to full pop. She recaps the opening number, asking repeatedly, ‘How does it feel,’ before erupting into yet another chorus full of synth horns and the most indulgent filigree.” Riff Magazine noted, “The angst also appears on ‘Just Like You,’ which invokes the ’90s sound of artists like Natalie Imbruglia, Meredith Brooks and Alanis Morissette.” Atwood Magazine hailed Lighter as “messy, raw, and utterly genius.” The new video follows the “Bedroom Sessions,” a quartet of self-directed videos that feature Donna performing intimate versions of other songs from the album – “Slow Motion,” “Bloom,” “Who Loves You” and “Carefully.” View HERE.

In a feature that put Donna “In Conversation” with Shania Twain, Interview Magazine said, “Missal’s thunderous vocals, mixed with her poignant lyrics and a country-meets-90s rock attitude, transformed the record into a wildfire of emotional upheaval making way for growth accompanied by a newfound sense of creative empowerment; one that comes from being in full control of her story.” The New Nine noted, “Donna is the badass artist we need right now… Missal is unforgettable, the pure force of her voice can radiate through a room reaching the deepest corners, but at the same time be so soft and delicate. The way she moves through every realm between the two extremes gives you chills.”

Donna Missal – “How Does It Feel”

Today, Donna Missal shared “How Does It Feel,” the soaring slice of luscious shoegaze that opens her new album, Lighter, which will be released on July 10 via Harvest Records. Download/stream “How Does It Feel” HERE and listen on YouTube HERE.

Donna – who has amassed over 33 million global streams in her career to date – wrote the track with Andrew Wells (X Ambassadors, Bebe Rexha, Fitz and the Tantrums), who produced the album, and Anthony Rossomando, whose credits include co-writing the Oscar-winning song “Shallow.”

“I hope this song finds the cracks in your heart and fills them with light,” says Donna Missal. “I hope this song can turn your disconsolateness into aspiration, and wrap its arms around you the way I wish I could right now. I hope this song meets your unrest with a challenge to desire and believe in dreaming for more.”

Lighter is an album about fragility, self-acceptance and self-discovery. It’s a timeless work from an artist who’s not playing by anyone else’s rules. Fans who pre-order the album in digital format will instantly receive “How Does It Feel” plus the singles “Let You Let Me Down” and “Hurt By You.”

“Donna Missal is a powerhouse vocalist” declared Flaunt in this recent feature article. MTV News observed, “‘Let You Let Me Down’ [is] a rock-infused breakup ballad…Her smoky vocals simmer to a satisfying crescendo in the final refrain.” The Honey Pop noted, “[Donna] can pull you through various emotions just with her voice, and ‘Let You Let Me Down’ is a prime example of her talent. It’s got powerful, poetic lyrics… a self-realization anthem.” “Hurt By You” was named as one of the “Best Songs Of The Spring” by Refinery29. NYLON noted, “This song was made for rolling the windows down and speeding on the backroads.” Praising Donna’s 2018 debut album, This Time (Harvest Records), Earmilk said, “A sound like this cannot be missed…we’re in full orbit around this star.”

Donna supported the album with a sold-out, 20-date U.S. headline tour. She has also played numerous festivals – including Austin City Limits and Bonnaroo – and toured with such artists as King Princess, Lewis Capaldi, Bishop Briggs, K.Flay, Joywave, Sir Sly, and Barns Courtney.

Francis and The Lights as the Hottest Record in the World on her BBC Radio 1 show. BANKS teamed up with co-producers BJ Burton (Bon Iver) and Francis and The Lights (the musical project of Francis Farewell Starline, who is also known for his collaborations with such artists as Kanye West and Chance the Rapper), to record the song. In addition to playing piano, Francis joins BANKS on vocals. Listen to Look What You’re Doing To Me HERE.
“Look What You’re Doing To Me is a song about love. About falling in love, being in love and how you feel when you’re high on love, says BANKS. Vibrant, scared, on fire, excited, and all the goodness in between.”
III is now available for pre-order HERE. Fans who pre-order the album in digital format will instantly receive Look What Youߣre Doing To Me; plus the single, Gimme, which has already amassed nearly 10 million streams and was hailed by TIME Magazine as a song You Need to Listen to. See below for the full track listing.

Life has its extremes as documented on BANKS‘ Goddess and The Altar but there’s a lot to exalt in, in between, and that’s the story III tells. III is BANKS‘ most nuanced release yet, coming after a self-imposed period of quiet and reflection. This album is an ode to my journey, says BANKS. It documents a major growth spurt. Of self-acceptance, letting go, forgiveness, and deep love. It has been painful to realize that life is not black and white. Romanticism leads to fierce reality checks, which leads to wisdom, which leads to deeper empathy which leads to greater love. This album documents the cycle.
BANKS has amassed 1.2 billion global streams to date across all of her songs, including over 600 million cumulative streams in the U.S. alone. After the release of her breakout debut album, Goddess, she became the world’s most blogged about artist. THIS TIME TOUR is your invitation to the winter and spring formal I never had. If you had a shitty time in school and want a re-do, or maybe you loved it and want to go back to that feeling, THIS TIME is your time. In addition to her North American headline tour, Donna will bring her live show to the UK for the first time, making her London debut January 23 at The Moth Club. For tickets and more information, go to http://www.donnamissal.com.

Having spent much of 2018 on the road, including two special album release shows in LA and New York, an appearance on MTV’s TRL, her debut festival appearance at Austin City Limits and prominent supporting slots opening for King Princess, Bishop Briggs and Sir Sly and Joywave, earning legions of new fans along the way—now Donna Missal is taking the reins, bringing her energetic and fiercely passionate live set to a city near you, in support of her debut album (and tour namesake), This Time.

The tour will see Donna Missal playing songs from her debut album, This Time, out now on Harvest Records. The eleven-track album infuses Missal’s timeless, fiery vocals with scorching production by Tim Anderson (Solange, BANKS, Halsey), harkening back to the heyday of classic soul music, all the while creating something fresh and contemporary. Including standout cuts like “Driving,” “Transformer,” “Girl,” “Thrills” and current focus track, “Jupiter,” an impassioned anthem with a driving bassline and massive chorus. Watch Donna deliver the goods in this live version of “Jupiter” HERE, filmed exclusively as part of Vevo’s DSCVR series

The album also includes her latest single “Keep Lying,” which has been steadily climbing the charts at Alternative radio. Following Zane Lowe’s premiere of Missal’s original demo version of “Keep Lying” on Beats 1, the song shot to the top of the Spotify Viral and HypeMachine charts.

Blending elements of soul, hip-hop and rock & roll, Missal shaped This Time’s sonic landscape partly by laying live recordings down on tape, then sampling those recordings to imbue her songs with a fresh yet timeless energy. Much of that live recording took place at the iconic Different Fur Studios in San Francisco, where she was joined in the studio by Nate Mercereau (Leon Bridges). “I really wanted this album to reference my history of playing in bands,” she  explains. “It’s all these very pure, talented musicians playing together in a room, but then we took that and sampled it and altered in a way that creates something totally new.”

With its title taken from a track Missal co-wrote with her frequent collaborator Sharon Van Etten, ‘This Time’ is an uncompromisingly honest look at living entirely on your own terms. “I’ve spent most of my life being hyper-focused on time, which I think is something that a lot of women obsess over,”says Missal. “We’re in such a rush to make things happen, when really we should take the time to figure out what we actually want out of life. And even though it’s so fucking hard to have that kind of patience, I think it’s so important to believe in yourself enough to let things develop in a way that feels right to you.”

Throughout the album, Missal crafts her lyrics with the kind of idiosyncratic detail that instantly etches each line onto your heart, exploring self-empowerment on tracks like “Transformer”—a fiercely charged anthem about “having the courage to take what you want from life, without apology,”and on “Thrills,” which sees Missal musing on self-love and sexual confidence, her voice soaring over a gently swaying groove and dreamy guitar tones. “‘Thrills’ is about owning what makes you real,” says Missal. “There is a shift happening in our societal standards of beauty and sexuality, and the more we embrace our flaws the closer we become to effecting real change. I’d love for people to hear the song — and not just women, but anyone who feels disenfranchised— and remember that being sexy and confident comes from self-acceptance.”

Elsewhere on This Time, Missal infuses social commentary into songs like “Girl”: a stripped-back yet intricately textured track that unfolds with both gentle playfulness and piercing vulnerability. “I wanted to address this idea that women need to be pinned against each other in order to succeed, or need to point out the flaws in other women just to feel good about themselves,”says Missal. “That kind of thinking has been around forever, and it doesn’t feel like it’s going away—but the more we talk about it, the better it’s going to get.”And on “Driving,” Missal delivers one of the album’s most mesmerizing moments, with her flowing melody, hypnotic rhythms, and ethereal vocals merging with a quiet grandeur that’s simultaneously escapist and inspiring. “‘Driving’ is about being on the precipice of taking control over your life—that feeling of seeing something you want in the distance and making the decision to go for it,”says Missal. “It’s about saying ‘Even if it takes a long time, or I hit some bumps along the way, it’s all okay because I’m the one behind the wheel.’”

To date, Donna Missal’s songs have racked up more than 23 MILLION COMBINED STREAMS globally, and now with the release of her debut album ‘This Time’, Missal is excited to provide her fans more of what they love so much about her music. “This isn’t a record about love and loss and relationships,” Missal explains. “It’s about taking chances for yourself, figuring out who you are and really standing behind that. I made a point of putting myself out there as a real person navigating this life at this moment in time, because I want to do whatever I can as an artist to help people feel more confident in navigating their own lives. I’d love for the listener to receive the message that you can take your time to learn and love yourself. That’s been the most important discovery that I want to share with this album.”

Donna Missal’s is a voice that comes around only once in a lifetime, a tour not to be missed
