Doechii – Crazy

Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) and Capitol Records‘ new artist Doechii drops the song and video for “Crazy.” The record and the visual challenges the stigmatized imagery of the female form, with both the director, C. Prinz, and Doechii working extensively over the last four months developing the narrative of this film: intentionally and meticulously crafting each scene and frame to tell a story derived from both of their personal and shared experiences.

“Crazy is about un-contained power, creativity and confidence. People call you crazy when they fear you or they don’t understand you,” says Doechii. “So when I use it in the song I’m reflecting that energy back on them to show them themselves.”

Listen HERE and watch  HERE.

On “Crazy” the Tampa rapper, singer, dancer, fashionista, and genre-disruptor attacks with aggressive flexes, colorful cadences and shouted raps while conveying a range of intense emotions. The vicious and surreal music video matches the song’s controlled chaos. Doechii, and likewise nude women, wield guns, dance in dynamic choreography and engage in destruction. The hybrid of hip-hop and broken beat finds Doechii raging as she attempts to empower the exponential capacity of women in every form of their being.

Video director C. Prinz states the film is a visual metaphor for “the hardships women go through in their ascension to power” that asks viewers “to see the female form not in moments of sexuality but instead for what we all go through, what we survive through and what we transcend.”

A testament to the breadth of Doechii’s sound and talents, “Crazy” stands in stark contrast to previous TDE/Capitol single, “Persuasive” a suave ode to weed and late-night partying.

Both singles follow the news of TDE and Capitol’s partnership with Doechii. She’s dominated the internet since the release of her unwaveringly original EP, 2020s Oh the Places You’ll Go and 2021’s BRA-LESS, and the single “Yucky Blucky Fruitcake,” which has generated over 33 million streams on Spotify alone. In addition to featuring on Isaiah Rashad‘s “Wat U Sed,” she was named one of Spotify‘s “Most Necessary Artists to Watch in 2022” and tipped as an Artist To Watch by Complex, XXL, Rolling Stone, Pigeons & Planes and Hiphopdx.

Doechii – Persuasive

Doechii drops the video for “Persuasive,” her first release after signing to Top Dawg Entertainment. Directed by Omar Jones, the video is a dizzying merge of personalities and fashion fluidity. Watch HERE.

“I had a very specific vision with the color pallet and aesthetic of this video,” says Doechii. “Omar was perfect for the job because he’s mastered this style; it was amazing working with him and his team!

“I envision my fans playing this video on their at home projectors during a kick back,” she continues. “The video is so full of life it can fill a space, like paintings.”

The single was produced by Kal Banx (Isaiah Rashad, J. Cole, SiR) and executive produced by Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith. Rolling Stone said, “’Persuasive’ is an ode to late nights and partying just a little too hard, with Doechii—who has drawn comparisons to hip-hop visionaries like Missy Elliot—deploying her signature flow.”

About Doechii

Doechii, who was featured on TDE labelmate Isaiah Rashad’s “Wat U Sed,” has been named one of Spotify’s “Most Necessary Artists to Watch in 2022” and tipped as Artist To Watch by Complex, Pigeons & Planes and Hiphopdx. Known as an alternative hip hop artists being compared to Flo Milli and Childish Gambino, she “embodies the “weird Black girl” personality without it being her persona,” according to Ben Queen.

In 2020, she released her first album, Oh, the Places You’ll Go, inspired by the Dr. Seuss book. With her new TDE/Capitol partnership in place, Doechii’s reign has only just begun.

Savannah Ré – Fiji

JUNO Award winner (and three-time nominee) Savannah Ré released her new song “Fiji“. Savannah Ré is one of the first Canadian artists to be selected for the global #YouTubeBlack Voices Music Class of 2022. Look out for more brand-new music from Savannah in the coming weeks!

Savannah Ré has become one of R&B’s brightest new voices by making music with an unyielding intention: to craft songs that forfeit polished stories for authentic ones. It’s this carefully refined formula for songwriting that has brought Savannah Ré under the mentorship of Grammy Award-winning producer Boi-1da and has made her the go-to collaborator for R&B’s upper echelon having written with artists like Babyface, Jessie Reyez, Normani, and Wondagurl.

Opia, Savannah Ré’s remarkable debut project, is a testament to her dedication to her craft. Acclaim for Opia has been abundant. FADER, BET, American Songwriter, HYPEBAE, and ELLE Canada among several others have championed Savannah Ré over the past year.

Ré has been honored with several accolades following the release of Opia including being nominated for the SOCAN Songwriting Prize, the Slaight Music Emerging Songwriter Award,  and the Polaris Music Prize. Both her “Solid” and “OPIA EXPERIENCE” music videos earned nominations for the 2021 Prism Prize. Savannah’s undeniable talent has earned her a place in Canadian music history as the first artist to ever be nominated for both the Contemporary R&B Recording of the Year JUNO Award (“Where You Are“) and the Traditional R&B/Soul Recording of the Year (“Solid”) JUNO Award. Last year, Savannah Ré became a first-time JUNO Award Winner when she was awarded the Traditional R&B/Soul Recording of the Year, making Canadian music history a second time as the first artist to ever receive the Award. Last week, she was nominated for a 2022 JUNO Award in the category once again for her song “24hrs.”

3Breezy – Can’t FWU

After reeling in tens of millions of streams and earning acclaim from American Songwriter, FLAUNT Magazine, and more, rising Camden, New Jersey, R&B/hip-hop artist 3Breezy unveils a new single and music video entitled “Can’t FWU,” out now on Capitol Records. Listen HERE.

On the track, he leans into thumping drums and smooth guitar with a melodic cadence. Pouring his heart out about a doomed relationship, he croons the hook, “I can’t fuck with you,” before warning, “Take a look at where ya at, I told you in the end Breezy gonna have the last laugh.” Directed by AROD2UP, the accompanying visual brings the story to life as it pulls no punches in its depiction of a rough breakup with a light at the end of the tunnel when our hero moves on.

It stands out as the follow-up to his recent single “Self Love.” Inciting critical acclaim right out of the gate, American Songwriter hailed it as “technically elegant and sonically moving” and promised it “sets the bar high for Breezy’s upcoming music.” It also garnered looks from Imprint, Hip Hop XXIV, and more. However, FLAUNT summed Breezy up best, christening him “Your new favorite R&B/hip-hop artist.”

The single paves the way for Breezy’s new project Catch A Breeze, which is available for pre-order and is set to be released on November 12. The album caps off an incredible journey from Breezy who, in unprecedented fashion, changed plans from being a veterinary technician to producing and releasing his own songs. Now, he wants everybody to Catch A Breeze.

Check out the full tracklisting below!

3Breezy will also be releasing a documentary in November, giving us an inside where he comes from, family in his life, and upcoming music.

“Self Love” followed on the heels of his June video for “Message to Her,” which was itself a tender, introspective R&B ballad inspired by a DM from a fan who was in a tough place. The record, self-released by Breezy last November, already has 3.5 million plays and, overall, in his short journey he’s amassed nearly 30 million streams in the U.S. alone. Breezy kicked off his career in October 2020, quickly issuing a number of singles and his debut mixtape, Murda She Wrote, captivating audiences with his easy knack for storytelling and deep sincerity.

As Breezy prepares his new project, Catch a Breeze, he’s only just beginning to fully explore this sensitive side of himself, crooning hazy confessionals and uplifting anthems over modern production. Breezy’s empathy runs deep, he grew up in a rough part of Jersey, surrounded by sisters and aunts who helped him learn how to listen, and how to be strong for others. Having good shoulders to lean on has led to Breezy becoming just that for his listeners. Though he has only been making music for about a year, songs like “Self Love” and “Message to Her” continue to prove he’s a bonafide hitmaker capable of intensely personal songcraft.

Dreamer Boy × All Our Dreams Came True Tour

Nashville’s genre-blurring singer/songwriter Dreamer Boy has announced his first ever headline tour. The All Our Dreams Came True tour will kick off on September 22 in Atlanta, GA, and run through October 4 in Los Angeles, CA. Dreamer Boy (Zach Taylor) will have support along the tour route from GRANDMA, Jack Larsen, May Rio, carwash and others.

Back in April, Dreamer Boy released his critically acclaimed album All The Ways We Are Together via slowplay and Harvest Records. The release on Earth Day was tied into various activations core to who Zach Taylor is as an artist and as a human. Streams from the album helped to plant 1,500 trees in partnership with One Tree Planted. This fall, fans will have the chance to hear the hazy, sentimental tracks off of this record live, as they were intended to be enjoyed. Purchase tickets HERE.

For Zach Taylor optimism is a calling. With a smile that hardly ever leaves his face, the 24-year-old songwriter/singer explains that the misty, shape-shifting pop music he’s made for the last few years as Dreamer Boy has been a way of accomplishing a grander aim. “I want to spread love and light and joy,” he says, matter-of-factly. And spread that he’s done, whether on the road with friends Clairo, Omar Apollo, and Still Woozy, or on the themes of his new release, All the Ways We Are Together. Dreamer Boy’s purpose has become clearer over time, and, in the spirit of unity and harmony, the Nashville-based singer and songwriter chose Earth Day as his album’s release date.

Toosii × Head Over Hills

Toosii, a member of the 2021 XXL Freshman Class, is back with a brand new song, “head over hills.” While his previous record found his “heart cold” after a break-up, a renewed sense of hope infuses “head over hills,” as Toosii delivers a moving declaration of love and devotion, accompanied by emotive keyboards and a soulful guitar. The track was produced by ThatBossEvan (Lil Durk, YXNG K.A) and Rocky. Download / stream HERE. View the official video HERE.

The Syracuse-born, North Carolina-raised rapper who has surpassed one billion combined global streams across all of his songs  will return to the road next Friday, July 23, with an opening day performance at Rolling Loud Festival. He’ll launch his first-ever U.S. headline outing in the fall. Tickets are on sale HERE.

Being selected as a member of the 2021 XXL Freshman Class has given Toosii a new platform for creative expression. Earlier this week, he and fellow freshman Blxst shared this cypher. In hisFreshman Freestyle, he took the opportunity to pay tribute to his mother.

Released earlier this month, “heart cold” was included in Uproxx’s round-up of “All The Best New Music From This Week.” Brooklyn Vegan said, “[Toosii’s] croon sounds great on this catchy, melancholic song” and Okayplayer hailed the accompanying visual as one of the “Best Rap Videos of the Week.”

Toosii’s early 2021 mixtape, Thank You For Believing (South Coast Music Group/Capitol Records), earned praise from critics and tastemakers alike, including The Fader, Complex andThe Source. HotNewHipHop observed, “He’s one of the strongest young faces rising in the rap game, impressing the masses with his emotional melodies and his raw storytelling.” XXL hailed “55” ft Latto as one of the “Best Hip-Hop Songs of 2021 So Far.”

Propelled by his gift for drenching real lyrics in rich emotion, Toosii has proven himself to be one of rap’s most relatable rising stars, able to touch hearts and minds with his honest tales of street life and lost love, detailing his journey from a lost kid surrounded by tragedy to a national sensation full of promise.

Mabel – Let Them Know

Mabel is back today with the brand new single “Let Them Know,” which is available now on Capitol Records. Listen here and watch the video here.

It’s the first new music of 2021 from Mabel, who in the last year or so alone has won the BRIT Award for Best Female Solo Artist, surpassed 4 billion streams and 2.2 million adjusted album sales for first album “High Expectations” (the biggest-selling debut by a British woman in 2019), and added to her formidable catalogue of smash hits like “Don’t Call Me Up” with 3 more top 10s under lockdown.

Futuristic, fearless and feel-good, “Let Them Know” is the unmistakable arrival of a new era and mindset for Mabel. Written alongside friends and close collaborators Raye, SG Lewis and MNEK, it’s an anthem about dressing up (with nowhere to go), and projecting confidence (even in times of trouble). On “Let Them Know” – and much more new music to come – Mabel’s girl-next-door candor remains, but her superstar-status shines brighter than ever before.

Mere weeks after she won her first BRIT Award – and midway through touring “High Expectations” – the world stopped: and for Mabel, a rare moment to pause and process an astonishing few years in the public eye came with it. At the beginning of the pandemic Mabel moved back in with her parents, threw herself into dance classes, and channeled everything she missed (close friends, the big night out, young love, feeling unafraid) into this brand new musical chapter. Within, songs distil the sweaty, grotty and frankly unglamorous side of noughties club land – as lost to the pandemic – alongside deeper cultural influences for Mabel: “Let Them Know”, for instance, was inspired by obsessively re-watching “Paris Is Burning,” “Pose” and “Drag Race,” while reflecting on dance music’s generational ethos of expression, liberation and inclusion.

While “Let Them Know” sounds, inadvertently, like the world opening up again, its unapologetic spirit is ultimately dedicated to anyone who’s ever felt less than. For herself as much as her legion of young fans, in 2021 it is time – finally – to “Let Them Know” that you’re that bitch.

“A warrior queen” – The Guardian

“Mabel is ushering in a new age of independent women in R&B” – The FADER
