Doechii – Persuasive

Doechii drops the video for “Persuasive,” her first release after signing to Top Dawg Entertainment. Directed by Omar Jones, the video is a dizzying merge of personalities and fashion fluidity. Watch HERE.

“I had a very specific vision with the color pallet and aesthetic of this video,” says Doechii. “Omar was perfect for the job because he’s mastered this style; it was amazing working with him and his team!

“I envision my fans playing this video on their at home projectors during a kick back,” she continues. “The video is so full of life it can fill a space, like paintings.”

The single was produced by Kal Banx (Isaiah Rashad, J. Cole, SiR) and executive produced by Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith. Rolling Stone said, “’Persuasive’ is an ode to late nights and partying just a little too hard, with Doechii—who has drawn comparisons to hip-hop visionaries like Missy Elliot—deploying her signature flow.”

About Doechii

Doechii, who was featured on TDE labelmate Isaiah Rashad’s “Wat U Sed,” has been named one of Spotify’s “Most Necessary Artists to Watch in 2022” and tipped as Artist To Watch by Complex, Pigeons & Planes and Hiphopdx. Brittany Howard × Jaime

Jaime – the first solo album from Brittany Howard – has been reimagined by an astonishing cross-section of the five-time GRAMMY winner’s peers. Featuring fresh takes and remixes of the album’s 11 songs, Jaime Reimagined will be released by ATO Records in digital format on July 23 with the vinyl edition to follow on September 24. See below for track listing.

Today, Howard shared the shimmering single “Presence” Little Dragon Remix along with the b-side, “Tomorrow” BadBadNotGood Remix.

Brittany Howard noted, “Making Jaime was so much fun for me because I was able to explore so many different genres of music. There were no rules. This reimagination project has been no different. I have been honored to have so many incredible artists from all musical worlds interpret my songs in such interesting and different ways.”

Little Dragon said, “Working with Brittany’s voice felt really inspiring, because it radiates emotions and energy.”

BadBadNotGood explained, “We’ve been fans of Brittany Howard’s work from a distance for years but haven’t had the chance until now to connect. She has an absolutely incredible voice and her songwriting style is really unique. The original of ‘Tomorrow’ had such a special, floating sound that it was difficult to find a direction to go in for the remix. We tried to give the amazing vocals a new context and build around that. We were honored to have the opportunity and hope everyone enjoys it!”

Howard will headline the legendary Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on September 18. She will also be performing at numerous festivals, including Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Outside Lands and Life Is Beautiful, and touring with My Morning Jacket. Tickets are available HERE. See below for itinerary.

As the frontwoman and guitarist for Alabama Shakes, Howard became one of music’s most celebrated figures – the band won four GRAMMYs (out of its nine nominations) and she has performed everywhere from the Obama White House to the main stage at Lollapalooza, where she sang with Paul McCartney at his invitation. But for her solo debut, Howard boldly decided to explore new directions, with diverse instrumentation and arrangements and intimate, revelatory lyrics. Howard titled the album after her sister, who taught her to play the piano and write poetry, and who died of cancer when they were still teenagers.

Jaime was awarded four stars by Rolling Stone, MOJO and Q, named the Best Album of 2019 by NPR and nominated for a GRAMMY Award in the Best Alternative Music Album category.Praising Jaime as “a candid autobiography in funk,” The New York Times said, “With a voice that can go to the roadhouse, the church or deeply private places, she exorcises troubles with the music’s sheer pleasure.”

ELHAE and MASEGO "My City" Cover Artwork by Motown Records for use by 360 Magazine

ELHAE × MASEGO – MY CITY

R&B COOL KIDS ELHAE & MASEGO ARE THE ULTIMATE GENTLEMEN ON NEW GROOVE SINGLE AND VISUAL, “MY CITY.”

Listen to “My City” (feat. Masego) HERE.

Watch the new visual for “My City” HERE.

Known for his melodic sound and hypnotizing harmonies, Georgia-raised singer/songwriter Elhae channels his love for women, cars, and the always present pursuit of prosperity on his latest single “My City” featuring Masego. The C-Gutta produced record showcases both Elhae & Masego in rare form as they take turns showcasing their signature sounds, reminding listeners and critics alike that not only are they hometown heroes, but that they’re also next in line to rule the R&B throne. Listen HERE.

“I called Masego on FaceTime one day asking if he wanted to be a part of this next project. We’ve always talked about working but never got a chance to really make it happen due to scheduling and what not.” Elhae says. “Fortunately, and unfortunately due to COVID, time was all we had. Masego had the beat and the hook done already so it was up to me to provide the rest. I reached out to my good friend Ari to help as well and it was done. I’m really happy with how this song came out and I hope people enjoy it.”

My City (feat. Masego)” comes on the heels of Elhae’s critically acclaimed “Separated” and the Rick Ross assisted record “Fun Fact.” Praised by XXL as being “the next R&B sensation that’s about to make a huge wave in the industry,” Elhae is currently in the studio putting the final touches on his highly anticipated Motown debut which is slated to be released later this year.

About Elhae

North Dakota-born and Georgia-raised singer, artist, and visionary Elhae approaches R&B like a film director would, choosing every element carefully, ensuring an intricate level of cohesion, and building his own world. Since catching fire in 2015 on the independent Aura EP, he worked towards eventually architecting such a world. The follow-up All Have Fallen yielded fan favorites such as “Doesn’t Matter” [feat Kehlani] and “Needs,” which clocked 19 million-plus Spotify streams. In between, he garnered glowing praise from the likes of The Fader, Billboard, Vibe, The Source, and more as Sprite named him among its P.O.U.R. (Purveyors of Urban Reality) program. The 2017 sequel to Aura, the Aura II EP, boasted “Drama,” “Something,” and the popular “Bang Your Line” [feat. Ty Dolla $ign]. The latter ignited 24 million Spotify streams and counting. Meanwhile, he lent his voice to high-profile collaborations with Lecrae, Eric Bellinger, and many others in addition to supporting blackbear on tour.

2018 saw him grace the stage of Coachella for the first time in front of 40,000 fans as he diligently worked on new tunes in Los Angeles, Miami, and Atlanta. Inspired by childhood favorite albums such as Kid Cudi’s Man on the Moon: The End of Day, Childish Gambino’s Because the Internet, and Kendrick Lamar’s Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City, he developed an airtight vision with a detailed plotline for his next release. In 2019, the vision unfolds over the course of his twelve-track conceptual project, Trouble In Paradise [Atlantic Records], introduced by the intoxicating first single “Hennessy.” His sound is about to blow up on the biggest canvas possible now.

About Masego

Masego is a self-taught singer, rapper, songwriter, comedian, producer, DJ, and more, all skills that he fuses into his self-described genre “TrapHouseJazz.” He has toured around the world and has performed with Kendrick Lamar, Flying Lotus, Thundercat, J. Cole, Ari Lennox, and more. His debut album, Lady Lady, landed on several Billboard charts, including No. 4 on Top New Artist Albums Consumption, No. 13 on R&B Album Sales, No. 22 on Heatseekers Albums, No. 40 on R&B/ Hip Hop Album Sales charts. The 13-song collection featured collaborations with SiR, FKJ, Tiffany Gouche, Kehlani, and De’Wayne Jackson. Born in Jamaica, he took on the stage name Masego meaning “Blessing” and “Prosperity” in the Tswana language that also comes from his South African heritage.

Walt Disney Records releases the digital soundtrack from Season 2 of “The Mandalorian,” Lucasfilm’s multiple Emmy®-winning live-action series, streaming exclusively on Disney+. The Mandalorian Season 2, Volume 1 (Chapters 9-12) digital album features score by Oscar®, Grammy® and Emmy® winning composer Ludwig Göransson (Tenet, Black Panther) and is available HERE. The release will be followed by The Mandalorian Season 2, Volume 2 (Chapters 13-16) digital album available on December 18.

Earlier this year, Göransson won his first Emmy for “The Mandalorian” “Chapter 8: Redemption” in the Outstanding Music Composition For A Series (Original Dramatic Score) category.  For the first season of “The Mandalorian,” Göransson released eight full-length albums, one album per episode, with recurring themes throughout the season. This season, he will release the soundtrack in two volumes containing new musical themes, sounds and ideas.

The score and character themes feature instruments played by Göransson including the bass recorder, woodwinds, drums, guitars, piano and percussion. The organic elements from those instruments are then infused with tech sounds and a cinematic orchestra.

About Ludwig Göransson

In a career spanning only 12 years, Ludwig Göransson has amassed an impressive resume in both the recording and motion picture industries, earning an Academy Award, an Emmy Award, multiple Grammy Awards and countless other nominations. After working as an assistant to composer Theodore Shapiro, Göransson got his first big break writing music for the NBC television series, Community. This led to a friendship and collaboration with Donald Glover, who performs under the stage name Childish Gambino, on several studio albums including Because the Internet and Awaken, My Love. Göransson has been nominated for six Grammys with Childish Gambino, and won two in 2019 for the Billboard Hot 100 Number One hit song “This Is America,” which became a cultural phenomenon and garnered world-wide acclaim.

While pursuing his masters degree in film scoring at USC, Göransson met his other longtime collaborator, director Ryan Coogler, when he scored his short film, Locks. Over the next nine years, Göransson would score all three of Coogler’s feature films. Much like iconic filmmaking duos Hitchcock and Herrmann or Spielberg and Williams, Coogler’s diverse filmography has allowed Göransson to show his range as a composer, writing understated melodies for Fruitvale Station, hyping up audiences for Creed, and infusing African percussion into his themes for Black Panther.

Göransson has accumulated success in a variety of other films including the box office smash Venom andPixar’s Inner Workings. In 2019, Göransson earned multiple awards and nominations for his score for Black Panther including a Golden Globe nomination, a Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack, and an Academy Award for Best Original Score. He won two Grammy Awards for his song “This is America”, which he co-wrote and co-produced with frequent collaborator Childish Gambino.

Most recently, Göransson completed the score for Season 2 of The Mandalorian, LucasFilm’s first Star Wars live-action series helmed by director Jon Favreau, streaming exclusively on Disney+.  In September 2020, he won his first Emmy Award for his work on the series. Göransson also composed the music for Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, which premiered late summer 2020. In addition, he co-wrote and co-produced the songs for DreamWorks’ Trolls World Tour with Justin Timberlake, which exceeded expectations with its history-making digital release in April 2020, racking up nearly $100 million in sales in just three weeks.

Surfaces Release Extended Video for Learn To Fly

Texas-based duo Surfaces have announced an extended version of their collaborative single “Learn To Fly” with legendary multi-GRAMMY Award winning Elton John, along with an accompanying extended music video, both out now. The extended video was directed by Ivan Dixon (Childish Gambino’s “Feels Like Summer”) and produced by Sean Zwan from Studio Showoff. Released on June 12 via 10K Projects, the original version of “Learn To Fly” has since accumulated over 13.5 million global combined streams. Earlier this month, Surfaces’ smash hit “Sunday Best” was certified Platinum by the RIAA, with over 1.2 billion global combined streams. Having spent over 19 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, “Sunday Best” was cited by Billboard as a “lead contender in the race for the song of the summer”.

Surfaces on why they decided to release an extended version of the song: “We weren’t really sure how everything would pan out when we started working with Elton over Zoom. It can be difficult to catch a creative wave over a screen rather than in person…but on the first day

Elton had the idea to transition the song into a different mood, a more climactic-anthemic one. We loved it. We didn’t know how to necessarily put everything into the one track, but we knew we had caught the spirit of Elton. After producing it out we realized making an extended version was probably our best bet of having everything feel cohesive…also leaving a little surprise for those of you who liked it initially!”

“Having heard ‘Sunday Best’ for the first time in Australia and liking it so much, I was surprised when the guys reached out to me to sing and play a little piano on ‘Learn To Fly,’” says Elton John. “I loved the song and the production on the track they sent me. We recorded via Zoom in LA, and it was so much fun working on a non-Elton record. These guys are terrific, and we had a blast collaborating.”

Surfaces released their third studio album Horizons, Peaking at #19 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, the success of “Sunday Best” skyrocketed the duo to the #1 spot on Billboard’s Emerging Artists Chart in May. In addition, “Sunday Best” is currently being used as part of the Beats by Dre campaign featuring LeBron James, Serena Williams and more.

Tiwa Savage Drops Dangerous Love Video

Leading Afrobeats star TIWA SAVAGE shares a stunning companion video to “Dangerous Love” – the first single from her anticipated fourth studio album “CELIA”. Shot in Lagos, Nigeria during the global lockdown, the visuals are produced by JM Films and sees Tiwa make her directorial debut collaborating and co-directing alongside Ibra Ake (Childish Gambino, Beyonce). Taking inspiration from the song, the video sees Tiwa seeking advice from one of her girlfriends (played by supermodel Adesuwa Aighewi), whilst preparing for a visit from her boyfriend.

“Dangerous Love is such a vibe! It’s a song that is basically about a girl who is dipping in and out of a ‘situationship’ with a guy that really doesn’t deserve her time or attention. She knows that he is bad for her but she gambling with her heart anyway.” Says Tiwa Savage. “I feel like every girl and maybe guys too can relate to this one.”

Top Performances of 2019’s Coachella Weekend 2

By Michelle Pisnoy

Stimulating music, giant art installations, over-the-top outfits, gourmet food, and more. These are all the things that make up the Coachella Music Festival. Coachella has a reputation for hosting a vast number of influencers and celebs, as well as music lovers that come from all over to enjoy the magic the festival has to offer. Here are our top 5 performances of 2019’s Coachella Weekend 2:

At number 1, we have Billie Eilish. At just 17 years old, Eilish has risen to the top of the charts, winning the hearts of the young and old. She moved the crowd with her eerie electronic beats and dark visuals. Her set opened with the popular song “Bad Guy”, which had fans screaming every lyric while jumping to the beat. Billie encouraged everyone to be in the moment while she performed and then took a moment to admire her adoring fans.

Next, was Tame Impala’s hypnotizing set. The stage was packed with fans waiting to hear the melodic charm and relaxing music Tame Impala had to offer. The visuals on the screen were psychedelic and took a trip through Tame Impala’s consciousness. As the crowd was vibing and swaying to every song, surprise guest A$AP Rocky jumped on stage to perform his song “LSD” and “Sundress”. The set did not end until their most famous song “The Less I Know the Better” re-energized the crowd.

From his now-trademarked dance moves to his incredible vocals, Childish Gambino’s headlining spot was clearly deserved. Gambino moved through the crowd, and even took a selfie with one lucky fan. He encouraged fans to get off of their phones and enjoy the experience, but didn’t make seem to make an effect on the crowd of cellphones recording his every move. Although Gambino didn’t bring out any surprise guests, Chance the Rapper made a quick cameo on stage.

Coachella should be renamed Arichella after Ariana hit the stage Sunday. The crowd for Grande stretched throughout the whole polo field. Some fans were waiting the entire day for the Queen of Pop to arrive. Although Grande returned to weekend 2 with significantly fewer surprise guests, she brought out a guest that would top all of the weekend 1 surprises. After a two-year break from performing on stage, Justin Bieber surprised fans with hit song “Sorry”. The energy of the festival completely changed. The crowd was dancing and singing, a few with tears in their eyes.

Lastly, Kanye brought his infamous Sunday Service to Coachella for Easter. The festival set up a completely new stage on the campgrounds, including a man-made mountain for his 9 am service. Fans showed up to the hillside as early as 6 am in the hopes of seeing Kanye. A powerful choir uplifted the festival goers as Kanye stood on a pedestal for all to see. Also spotted were the Kardashians and Jenners dancing along to his service. Special guests such as Kid Cudi, Chance the Rapper and Teyana Taylor all took part in the glorious moment.

Some might say that Weekend 1 was far better than Weekend 2, but what I say back is, did you see Justin Bieber and Kanye West? All in all, Coachella is a magical experience no matter what weekend you attend.
