JAGUAR XE R-DYNAMIC

The BMW 3 series has always dominated the small luxury sedan market. Jaguar challenges that with the 2020 Jaguar XE. Jags have always been known for three things: driving feel, prestige and presence. In a market saturated with big players from Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus and Genesis, JLR had no choice but to throw everything including the kitchen sink at the XE. 360 Magazine examined the changes to see if they produced.

Exterior

Known for its dashing looks, Jaguar has been making subtle but effective updates to the current generation XE. In 2020, notice the head and tail lights have been sharpened slightly to give the vehicle a wider and lower impression. These upgrades make the car look more aggressive and imposing. LED lighting is standard in the rear and optional up front. Wheel options are formidable throughout the lineup with sizes ranging from 18” to 20”. In addition, it possesses puddle lights which differentiate it from other compact European vehicles within its class.

Interior

The interior is perhaps the biggest improvement of the 2020 XE. Dominating the center console is the twin screen infotainment/HVAC controls pulled from all other Jaguar Land Rover products. Remarkably, the modernized system brings a new level of intuitiveness missing from prior model years. Quality is a mixed bag, some soft materials and some cheaper with uneven gaps, as usual with the group. An excellent attention to detail is the half-metal stalks coming off the steering wheel. Otherwise, the Jag is mostly unchanged on the inside compared to the outgoing model. Additional features include power adjustable leather seats, dual zone climate control, and a huge panoramic sunroof for an airy experience. Talk about sunshine on a cloudy day. Light shines through to amplify the size of the car.

Technology

First enter the sedan at night for an eyeful of bright and colorful ambient lighting that highlight the contours throughout. Drivers can expect a head up display, 12.3 inch digital instrument cluster, and standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The 360 team appreciated a new rear view mirror with a built-in camera similar to GM’s. 

Performance  

Jag delivered as promised on the most important aspect of a small luxury sedan – performance. As with what seems like every other vehicle nowadays, a 2.0L 4 cylinder turbocharged engine is standard. In the base XE S trim, the engine outputs 247 horsepower and 269 lb-ft torque which is good for a 0-60 time of 6.2 seconds. Step up to the R-Dynamic S trim and the 2.0L engine kicks out 296 horsepower, 295 lb-ft torque, and a 0-60 time of 5.4 seconds. Both trims are built on a lightweight aluminum architecture with a curb weight of 3,385 and 3,560 pounds, respectively. The base trim pushes power to the rear wheels standard with AWD as an option. Engineers also considered aerodynamics heavily while developing this car and have fine tuned it for this model year. The XE has a drag coefficient as low as Cd0.27, which is slightly more than the BMW at 0.26 but still very impressive. This leads to the friendly MPG numbers.

R-Dynamic vehicles come standard with AWD. Standard performance and handling features include brake vectoring, double wishbone front suspension and integral link rear suspension. Optional features include Configurable Dynamics with adjustable steering weight and throttle response, Adaptive Dampers, and bigger brakes and aero treatments. Combine everything and you have a dream handling machine. Fuel economy numbers stand at 25/34 city/highway for the Base trim and 22/30 for the R-Dynamic.

Safety

The XE comes standard with emergency braking, standard cruise control, driver condition monitoring, rear view camera and lane keep assist. The LKA is the variety that nudges the vehicle back into the lane rather than keeping it centered in the lane. Gearheads may not feel comfortable taking hands off the wheel in this vehicle. This is the opposite of most BMW vehicles as their LKA is much more confidence inspiring. With that being said, we are excited for Jaguar’s next generation XE and its updated LKA as it should be top notch. Optional features for the XE include Adaptive Cruise Control with start/stop, High Speed Emergency Braking and Blind Spot Assist. The comprehensive suite of advanced safety technology makes this cruiser feel very sturdy and safe.

To top it off, the XE has powerful brakes and six airbags spread out throughout the cabin in the front, side and rear curtain. This Jag comes in at approximately $40,000 base with the R Dynamic Trim starting at $46,000. After an extensive drive, it’s apparent Jaguar built a real competitor in the true driver’s car market.

CADILLAC XT4 SPORT AWD

Big, boujee, and imposing. Three words which are normally used to describe Cadillac SUVs. With more people buying smaller SUVs and crossovers rather than sedans, Cadillac had no choice but to roll out this new compact crossover. So, can the XT4 AWD hold its weight in this ultra-competitive market?

Design

Let’s start with playing the shield game, ever heard of it? Try counting how many Cadillac shields you can find on the vehicle – let’s keep a count. Starting out front and center is the signature Cadillac emblem located inside, you guessed it, a shield shaped grill (2). Admittedly it looks terrific and adds the touch of luxury that Cadillac loyalists expect. Outlining the grill are full LED headlights across all trims with signature lobster claw lookin’ DRLs. Looking at the side profile, the XT4 has one of the best profiles of any compact crossover out there. It’s slightly boxy like other Cadillac crossovers and SUVs but still has curves and swooping lines like its European competitors, the Audi Q3, BMW X1/X2 and the Range Rover Evoque. All XT4s come standard with 18” wheels but 20” inch wheels are optional. Also visible from the side profile are two more logos prominent on each front fender (4). Wrap around to the back to find full LED vertical taillights wrapping around slightly to the side of the vehicle. They work well on the XT4, making it appear bigger and wider. An interesting attention to detail is the two lower trims, Luxury and Premium Luxury, come with red taillight lenses whereas the top Sport trim comes standard with clear taillight lenses to add to the sporty aesthetic. Below is a dual exit exhaust setup with a single tip for each side. Rounding off the rear is the Cadillac shield placed right above the license plate which is placed within another shield shaped cutout (6). Overall, the XT4 is a very handsome breed that exudes luxury and sportiness.

Interior

The XT4’s interior is a much-needed upgrade over the past piano black cladded plastic feel. The soft touch materials, soft leather seats (ventilated and heated) and design integrate well with the exterior design. Slide back the shade over the sunroof and watch the white leather pop – making the interior feel airy and open. This must have sunroof is unacceptably optional. The design is refreshingly modern and upscale with a minimalistic approach. Cadillac nailed the balance between on screen vs. physical buttons… there’s even a volume knob! Step into the backseat and you’ll find class leading rear leg room. It’s a six foot passenger’s dream come true. The materials get slightly worse in the rear of the cabin but not obnoxiously. The rear passengers get their own climate control zone, lined up to resemble our favorite logo (7).

Technology

Looking into the Cadillac User Experience (CUE) infotainment system, Cadillac has come a long way in intuitiveness and display quality. The system is very easy to use with either the touchscreen or the control knob like its European competitors. Climate controls have their own set of physical buttons also lined up to resemble the Cadillac shield (8). The fully integrated display is cleaner than the stuck-on tablet looks of many vehicles nowadays. Its only downside must be that the screen is slightly tilted away from the driver attracting potential glare. CUE also supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with one touch NFC pairing for the latter. Optional features include a head up display, digital gauge cluster, thirteen speaker Bose Centerpoint audio system, wireless phone charging, massaging front seats, and a rear view camera built into the rear view mirror that resembles a Cadillac shield (9).

Safety

Standard safety features include automatic emergency braking and rear park assist. Level up to the premium luxury trim and you get front and rear park assist, lane change alert with blind spot alert, and rear cross traffic alert. Other optional safety features include adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, automatic high beams, advanced adaptive cruise control, and enhanced automatic emergency braking. Unfortunately, Super Cruise from Cadillac is not available. XT4 follows suit with its GM siblings by alerting the driver of blind spot detections and lane departure warnings with the vibration of the driver’s seat.

Performance

Cadillac has made a name for itself in driving performance and the XT4 does not disappoint. Using a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, the XT4 makes 237hp at 5000rpm and 258 lb/ft torque from a respectable 1500rpm. That’s 0-60 in 7.5 seconds. Not bad for the 3600lbs being carried plus a slight disadvantage due to the shape being less aerodynamic than rivals. Handling feel is good for a crossover and it rides very well on the 20-inch wheels. Stick with the 18s and expect a very comfortable and cushy ride. Go with the 20s and opt for the active sport suspension to get the best ‘drivers’ version of this vehicle. Heck you should be able to keep up with a base model Dodge Charger on a rainy day. All in all, casual drivers should have enough power and handling feel to fulfill their needs. Fuel economy is everything in today’s age and eco-goers can appreciate the fuel consumption of this one The FWD models get 24/30 city/highway while AWD models get 22/29 city/highway. The AWD system Cadillac threw at this is interesting in that it’s a dual clutch setup, enabling it to disconnect power going to the rear wheels to help fuel economy.

Overview

In a saturated market, 360 Magazine can confidently say the XT4 drives for comfort, boasts luxury, and combats rivals with dashing looks. One may argue that Cadillac has never built a crossover or SUV that truly belonged in the same conversation as major German or British players but now we have a winner. If you want a crossover that will haul your family, let others know you made it, and provides a fabulous trip experience, Cadillac will gladly sell you this one. Pricing begins at a reasonable $35,600 base. Counting nine shields on this vehicle, not including the logo on the wheels and the steering wheel (surely we missed a few), the branding imposes itself on consumers and spectators.

World War Joy Tour

The Chainsmokers returned to their home of Los Angeles to shake down Inglewood at the legendary Forum. With over 40 shows on their World War Joy Tour, the duo (Drew Taggart and Alex Pall) didn’t stop short to show LA why they’re one of the world’s leading EDM acts.

The evening began with acts Lennon Stella and 5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS) warming up the nearly sold-out 18,000 capacity arena. The Australian pop-rock band, whom hail from Sydney, during their riveting performance, reminded the crowd that they are not your conventional ‘opening act.’ After belting hit after hit, it was apparent that this group could pack a stadium on their own accord with ease.

Production for each Chainsmokers’ song kept the crowd enticed and on their toes –  i.e. tranced with lasers, motorcycles, pyro sticks and special guest appearances. Blink-182 made a surprise entrance to help preview a new single dropping on the anticipated Chainsmokers’ album, “World War Joy,” set to release on December 6th. 

The group continued with smash hits like the Grammy award winning, ‘Don’t Let Me Down,’ along with favorites ‘Closer,’ and ‘Takeaway.’ Bass heavy mixes paralleled with Drew’s angelic vocals was a sweet spot for dance music fanatics. The live performance truly made you a fan if you weren’t already.

Rock House Sliders

As of late, Rock House Sliders Hollywood [RHSH] opened its doors to the American market and 360 Magazine had the grand opportunity to attend the soft opening. The restaurant is located at 7950 Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood. Parking is offered underneath the property until 9:00pm with validation.

RHSH originates from Kuwait, an Arab country on the Persian Gulf. Currently, the chain possesses ten locations within the Middle East. The company plans to expand to Santa Monica and Downtown Los Angeles. In the near future, they will privately deliver fresh hot food until 3:00am.

Upon entry, guests are embraced by friendly staff and instantly mesmorized by modern ambiance – open concept with floor-to-ceiling windows and white walls. The furniture is ergonomically trendy and transforms the venue from traditional dine-in to a pet friendly hotspot. The menu was formulated by a consultant chef serving Angus beef and grass-fed cow alongside of vegan options.

The restaurant serves six mouth-watering 2oz juicy burgers. Listed include: Original Rocker, Original Chicken, Spicy Chicken, Boston Mushroom, Chipotle BBQ Ranch and Kick My Boss. Prices vary from $2.89 to $3.89 and are coupled with tantalizing sides of french fries (w/o cheese), hand breaded onion rings, hand breaded buffalo tenders and cheddar tots. The Original Crispy Chicken Sandwich is perfectly crafted for a savory and succulent bite.

The ‘Messy Fries’ (reminscent of tangy nachos at one of your favorite cantinas) was the 360 team’s personal favorite – topped with relish, jalapeños, cheddar cheese, thousand island and beef bacon bits. All sides perfectly pair with their in-house made sauces. For dessert, cool off with some of their signature Black Ice Cream or one of their delicious all-natural milkshakes.
