Creative Director Berit Gilma inside 360 MAGAZINE

BERIT GILMA

Listen to Berit Gilma and Vaughn Lowery on 360 MAG Amazon | Spotify podcast HERE.

Rising creative director and artist Berit Gilma is making her multi-disciplinary talents known on Danny Elfman‘s latest project, the upcoming remix album Bigger. Messier.

The young Austrian-born artist based between Los Angeles and Berlin creative-directed the record, released on August 12, as well as Elfman’s 2021 album Big Mess. She led all visual elements of both releases and co-curated the lineup of remixers that would transform Elfman’s tracks on Bigger. Messier

Gilma’s expertise in digital art and new technologies was pivotal for Elfman’s renaissance, helping him return to his artistic roots in alternative music while collaborating with underground and established artists alike. Best known for the new wave band Oingo Boingo and his TV and movie scoring work, Elfman’s uproarious, career-spanning set at Coachella, went viral earlier this year.

For the latest remix to drop from the new album, Gilma invited Blixa Bargeld (Einstürzende Neubauten) to rework “In Time,” bringing together two legends of alternative music for the first time as well as co-producing the track. Gilma conceived the collaboration after having returned to Berlin, where Bargeld lives, from Los Angeles during the COVID pandemic.

“We tried to bring exciting musicians on board to completely rethink Danny’s songs,” says Gilma. “Legends as well as contemporary, young artists from various genres. Living in Berlin for so long, I’ve always been a Einstürzende Neubauten admirer. As underground icons, they inspired the international music scene and many bands to come. Danny and Blixa are both true artistic souls. They both started with similar interests, and just due to their cultural contexts went very different journeys. By introducing them to each other, I thought something magical could happened – and it did.”

The striking video for “In Time” is inspired by Gilma and Elfman’s mutual fascination with AI systems in art. Gilma invited Italian AV artist LOREM to reinterpret the album’s visuals with artificial intelligence.

Says Gilma, “I have worked with LOREM before and love his art. Both Blixa and Danny were excited about the idea to let an artificial intelligence “dream” the video using the lyrics. The outcome is an endless moving pull through a dream-scape of an AI trying to make sense of what was given to it.”

Previously-released tracks from the album include noise-rapper GHOSTEMANE’s remix of “Native Intelligence,” by Elfman and Trent Reznor. Other remixers and collaborators include legends such as Iggy Pop, along with Squarepusher, Zach Hill (Death Grips), Boy Harsher, HEALTH, and many more.

Gilma thoroughly defined the aesthetic direction of Bigger. Messier. – her vision brought together a curated list of artists, who worked with cutting-edge technology such as 3D scanning, CGI, and artificial intelligence to digitally manipulate Danny’s body. Warping and twisting his form into something grotesque and sinister, the visuals are perfectly complimenting the rocker’s dark musical vision. These artworks were used on album covers, packaging, and as backing visuals during Elfman’s live performances.

Bigger. Messier. was released today. Watch the video for “In Time (feat. Blixa Bargeld)” here.

About Berit Gilma

Berit Gwendolyn Gilma has made a career out of chasing what lurks in the shadows. Born and raised in Austria, at 21 she moved to Berlin and quickly fell into the city’s underground scene. While exploring the German capital’s pulsating music and arts scene she befriended hacktivists and artists working on the bleeding edge of tech, criticizing pervasive global surveillance systems. She holds a BA degree from the University of the Arts Berlin, where she studied New Media Arts under celebrated Chinese dissident artist Ai Weiwei

Her path diverged in 2016 when she met world-famous Hollywood composer and musician Danny Elfman. They bonded over a shared interest in the weirder side of pop culture, and after earning a Fulbright Scholarship and moving to Los Angeles to pursue an MFA at the UCLA Design Media Arts Department, she became Elfman’s creative director. As he prepared to re-enter the music industry after a long hiatus as a solo artist, Elfman turned to Gilma as a collaborator. She provided creative and art direction for Elfman’s album Big Mess, introducing him to contemporary digital artists and new technologies such as 3D scanning and artificial intelligence to produce cutting edge visuals that were used throughout the album art and music videos. Her latest project with Elfman is the remix album Bigger. Messier., for which she co-curated a lineup of legendary collaborators including Iggy PopTrent ReznorBlixa Bargeld and exciting young talents like GhostemaneHEALTHBoy Harsher and many others.

In her artistic work Gilma has explored the aesthetics of secrecy. Her MFA degree examined the intersection of art and science, and she has also studied at the New School in New York and RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia. She often returns home to Graz as the art curator of the city’s Elevate Festival, a destination for contemporary art and electronic music. What unites all of Berit Gilma’s activities is a sensitivity for the dark arts, carving for herself a unique niche where sound and vision merge at the forefront of technology.

According to Ryan Jones, assistant vice president of Wynn Nightlife, the group has received an overwhelming response, resulting in almost sold out show.

The first two shows, August 20th and September 3rd, will both be held at the XS nightclub. Although Swedish House Mafia will play a traditional set in the DJ booth, audience members will witness a few surprises on those specific dates. Both shows will happen on Saturday night, around 1:30 am or 2 am and play until the venue closes. With a capacity of about 4,000 people, including 176 VIP tables, Ryan thinks the show will be an enormous success.

In addition, Calvin Harris will perform on September 17th at XS nightclub. More exciting news will be announced in the coming months.

As an innovative brand which has worked in tandem with both Coachella and the Super Bowl, the Wynn continues to seek new and exciting ways to remain relevant in both the music and entertainment industries.

According to Ryan, with regards to philanthropy, the community outreach program at Wynn Nightlife is robust. To date, the staff has volunteered 2,500 documented hours to various local charities and elementary schools within city limits.

For young people who seek similar positions, Ryan suggests they explore every aspect of the industry before making a decision.

SG LEWIS’ 2022 NORTH AMERICAN TOUR

Following the release of his new double A-Side single, ‘Missing You’ / ‘Something About Your Love, London-based singer-songwriter, producer and DJ, SG Lewis, has announced a new run of North American Tour dates. The 20-date tour will kick off October 6 in Boston, making stops in BrooklynWashington DCTorontoChicagoAtlantaDallasSalt Lake CityLos AngelesSeattle and more, before concluding in Portland, OR on November 12.

Speaking about getting back out on the road, SG Lewis reveals, “After years of tentative touring and cautious planning, I’m unbelievably excited to finally announce my first full US tour since 2019. I’m buzzing to be playing in some cities I’ve wanted to visit for so long, and so excited to bring you a completely new live show.

The local presale begins tomorrow, Wednesday July 13th at 10 AM, through Thursday July 14th at 10 PM local time, followed by an exclusive Spotify Presale on Thursday, 10 AM – 10 PM local time. Tickets go on sale to the general public starting Friday, July 15th at 10 AM local time. For a full list of upcoming live dates and to purchase tickets, please visit www.sglewismusic.com.

These headlining dates will follow his previously announced live shows this summer, including his return to the beloved Palm Springs pool party festival Splash House on Saturday, August 13, and festival performances at Life Is Beautiful Festival in Las Vegas (TICKETS) on Friday, September 16 and the Portola Festival in San Francisco (TICKETS) on Sunday September 25.

Last week, SG Lewis returned with two brand new singles: the nocturnal dancefloor-filler ‘Missing You‘ and the italo-influenced anthem ‘Something About Your Love.’ Right out of the gate, ‘Missing You,’ which The FADER hailed as an “80s synth-rave carried on the back of a snappy Linn drum-sprinkled beat that would make Starboy-era The Weeknd salivate,” reaches for dancefloor glory with its shimmering synths and neon bass line, nodding to eighties new wave with a chantable chorus, “I’m not missing you like I’m supposed to.” On the flip side, ‘Something About Your Love‘ fuses a funk-inflected bass line and tambourine with a luminous refrain. The release was celebrated by Dancing Astronaut, who said “Altogether, Missing You / Something About Your Love affirms SG Lewis‘ status as a musical auteur with a knack for merging the sounds of earlier decades with today’s sonics in an ever novel, dance floor-facing fashion.” Both tracks are available to buy/stream as a double A-side single today via Astralwerks.

Listen to ‘Missing You / Something About Your Love’ HERE.

Ushering in a brand-new chapter, the 70s and 80s have provided a rich seam of inspiration for contemporary artists like SG Lewis (real name Sam Lewis) and nowhere is this more potent than today’s releases. Missing You‘ illuminates Lewis‘ unmatched ability to take underground club music somewhere fresh and towards a new generation and reaches for dancefloor glory with its shimmering synths and neon bass line, nodding to eighties new wave in timeless pop ecstasy. On the other end of the spectrum, the Daft Punk inspired Something About Your Love‘ showcases 70s-era drums, a funk-inflected bass hook, disco-styled groove, and a luminous refrain. Both tracks are classic but deeply contemporary cuts with one suited to the adrenaline rush of your wildest night out, and the other to the blissful ride home at sunrise. This duality is a theme that permeates SG Lewis‘ new era.

Speaking about ‘Missing You,‘ SG Lewis reveals, “Conceptually, it felt like the perfect introduction. It’s a story about temptation and dwindling fear. Your eyes are wandering.” On ‘Something About Your Love,’ SG adds “It’s no secret I’m a massive Daft Punk fan. It’s the closest thing I’ve ever made to a tribute to them. I was listening to Discovery a lot, and there’s a specific technique to it. I chopped up the sample of these seventies keys and drums. It came together easily. Lyrically, It’s a pure confession of admiration for someone. It’s the perfect contrast to ‘Missing You’.

The new tracks follow on from Sam’s debut record times, released during lockdown last year, which found one of modern pop’s secret weapons stepping out front and center, taking listeners on a voyage through soaring electronic dance and kaleidoscopic future disco with a blockbuster collection of guests. Features included Robyn and Channel Tres on ‘Impact‘ (“a house track so physical your feet may begin to move involuntarily,” according to NPR), Nile Rodgers on ‘One More‘ and Lucky Daye on fan favorite Feed The Fire.’ The album received widespread critical acclaim from the likes of Pitchfork (who hailed it as “a pristine album”), NPR, Billboard, NME, GQ and much more, with LP highlight track ‘Chemicals‘ amassing over 55 million Spotify streams and counting, catapulting SG Lewis‘ total stream count to over 1.4 billion.

SG Lewis has cemented his status as one music’s most sought-after producers and has collaborated with the likes of Elton John, Dua Lipa, Clairo, Tove Lo, Khalid, Aluna, Victoria Monet, Raye, Ray BLK, The Neptunes/N.E.R.D’s Chad Hugo, Gerd Janson, Conducta + many more. Louis Vuitton also launched their pre-Fall campaign with Soulwax’s remix of ‘Impact’ earlier this month and Sam is well regarded in fashion circles, attending, and performing an array of parties across his illustrious career. Behind the scenes, he also produced Dave’s seminal breakout track 100’M’s’ and co-wrote ‘Hallucinate‘ for Dua Lipa‘s record-smashing number one album, Future Nostalgia. Sam has sold out headline shows across the US, Asia, Australia, and Europe as well as multiple festival appearances including prime-time slots at Coachella and Glastonbury – his raucous live shows not only make him one of London’s hottest talents, but also a formidable artist capable of making a splash on both sides of the Atlantic and beyond.

MÅNESKIN Tour photo Via Roberto Panucci

MÅNESKIN GETS LOUD

Following recent highly praised performances at Coachella and numerous leading European festivals, Måneskin returned to Italy Saturday night, July 9, for a landmark Sold-Out concert for over 70,000 fans at Rome’s historic Circo Massimo (Circus Maximus). This milestone moment has seen the talented young quartet of musicians that came together as teenagers rise from busking on the streets of Rome to filling Italy’s signature stadium concert venue utilized by The Rolling Stones, Genesis, and Bruce Springsteen

It was a surprising, powerful two hours plus show with a playlist covering every significant step of their career, from the first songs that brought Måneskin to Italian popularity, such as CHOSEN and TORNA A CASA, to hits that opened the door to the rest of Europe, like ZITTI E BUONI, CORALINE – through high-charting global impacts such as 2, and their recently released new single SUPERMODEL – which has already surged up U.S alternative (#2), rock (Top-10) and pop radio playlists.

This summer, Måneskin will continue to appear at several of the world’s most prestigious Music Festivals: Reading & Leeds, Lollapalooza (in Paris and Chicago), Rock Werchter, and Rock in Rio in Brasil, and Summer Sonic in Japan.

Their first extensive global trek, the highly anticipated LOUD KIDS TOUR, will start in autumn, with over 60 shows produced by Vivo Concerti, with over 500.000 tickets sold to date. The U.S. tour leg, with the majority of performances having achieved near-instant sell-outs, with additional shows recently added or venues upgraded, will begin in late October.

Before – NIKI

Today, Jakarta-born, LA-based singer-songwriter, and producer NIKI unveils her new single and accompanying video for “Before.” The track is the first single from her forthcoming album Nicole. NIKI first announced the album on her social media pages earlier this week, read more HERE.

Stream/download the track HERE.

Watch the music video HERE.

The reflective record is tinged with nostalgia and sees NIKI yearning for a past relationship that has come to an end and grappling with navigating her feelings and how to let go. The reverb-drenched and scaled-back production of the track highlights NIKI’s lyrical ability to evoke strong emotions and sentimentality through her music.

“Before” continues to see NIKI shine revisiting her singer/songwriter roots through her genuine storytelling as seen on previous singles like “Split” released late last year.

In the accompanying music video, NIKI flies across the globe to the United States in an attempt to rekindle a relationship, but something feels amiss. The video is directed by Isaac Ravishankara and stars Indonesian-American actor Peter Adrian Sudarso opposite NIKI.

On the track, NIKI says “‘Before’ is the irresolute ending to my very first love story. I wrote it as a means to create the kind of closure I never had. I also feel itߣs ironically poetic to open this new chapter by telling you how it ends first. I’m so proud of it, and I can’t think of a better song to introduce the ultimate break-up record I’ve always fantasized of putting out but somehow haven’t until now.”

The release of “Before” comes fresh off the heels of NIKI’s unforgettable performance at Coachella in April, where she became the first Indonesian artist to ever perform at the festival, alongside Rich Brian. NIKI will follow up her Coachella appearance with a performance at 88rising’s 2022 Head in the Clouds Festival this August at Brookside at the Rose Bowl. NIKI previously performed at the 2021 Head in the Clouds Festival last November with a striking set that received acclaim from MTVFlaunt, and The AV Club who hailed her a “goddamn superstar.”

Watch her full performance at the festival HERE.

Most recently, 88rising and NIKI collaborated with Honda on a new docu-series that captured her journey to Coachella, storying her time leading up to her dazzling performance. 88rising is the first Asian music media partner to collaborate with Honda on their music program. The docu-series presented by Honda highlighted various firsts for NIKI from chronicling her first Coachella performance to watching her journey in her first car, a 2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid, capturing this full circle moment all while celebrating her Indonesian heritage, as both episodes were released last month during AAPI Month. Watch episode 1 HERE and episode 2 HERE.

To date, NIKI has accumulated over 1.8 billion streams across all platforms. Her hit single “Every Summertime” from the soundtrack of Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings recently went viral and currently has over 220 million streams and climbing. The track, written and produced by NIKI and longtime collaborator Jacob Ray is an exuberant love song with a throwback sound reminiscent of classic R&B and soul. Stream the track HERE.

The aforementioned “Split” comes from the upcoming Head In The Clouds 3 collaboration album, 88rising’s game-changing third installation of the world-building effort that brings together rising artists from East to West. A retro slowburn, complete with steel guitar and NIKI’s sweet rasp, “Split” sees the 23-year-old’s artistic force chronicling the ache of feeling split between two worlds and two homes. Like all her well-loved songs, “Split” leaves a mark

Listen to “Split” HERE.

ABOUT NIKI

With over 1.8 BILLION+ streams to date, 23-year-old NIKI has slammed the door on the conventions of pop stardomߞwriting, recording, and producing her music on her own. Born in Jakarta and based in Los Angeles, NIKI has captured the attention of audiences around the world, earning praise from Billboard “as one of the brightest rising stars.” Earning wide critical acclaim since her breakthrough “Zephyr”, and her debut album, “MOONCHILD”, NIKI has cultivated fans around the globe with her expressive voice, personal songwriting and genre-blurring artistry, becoming a vibrant symbol of and an advocate for a generation of Asian musical artists.

NIKI’s debut album “MOONCHILD” was released on September 10, 2020 and currently has over 172M streams to date. Complex called MOONCHILD “a full-length offering reflective of the Indonesian vocalist/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist growth and abilities.” i-D shared that NIKI’s storytelling on MOONCHILD was “something we can only aspire to do.” To date, NIKI has garnered over 1.8 B+ streams and received praises from outlets like Harper’s BAZAAR, Forbes, Teen Vogue, Hypebae, and more.

Most recently, NIKI’s song “Every Summertime,” which appeared on the Marvel, Shang-Chi Legend of The Legend Ten Rings Official Soundtrack landed on Spotify’s Today’s Top Hits and Pop Rising amongst others and has been streamed over 200 million times worldwide. She was also the first Indonesian artist, alongside Rich Brian to ever take the stage at Coachella. She is also currently the face of Guess Originals Spring campaign.

With her Indonesian heritage essential to her story, she feels “a social responsibility representing Asian artists, especially as a role model for girls.” For aspiring Asian and Asian American talents aiming to break cultural norms and overcome music industry under-representation, NIKI proves that the highest dreams are indeed within reach.

Splash House 2022

Acts To See At Splash House 2022

By Krish Narsinghani

With Summer quickly approaching, festival goers are eager to see their favorite acts perform live post-pandemic. House music lovers in particular are geared up for this year’s Splash House in Palm Springs, California. This pool party paradise lasts for three days and features some of today’s hottest DJ’s and music artists. While headliner Diplo is always a must-see act, 360 are keen on seeing Chanel Tres, Kito, and Walker & Royce to name a few.

Chanel Tres

Artist, producer and DJ, Chanel Tres, has paved a new path for groovy house tracks mixed with hip-hop and R&B influences. His newest self-produced album, “refresh,“ speaks volumes to his skill and innovation as it features funky dance instrumentals, different than some of his past projects. Recently witnessing his set at the Coachella Soho House party, you can trust that he’ll be causing some ripples at the pools. Get ready to bump to something unexpected once you get a taste of his Chicago house sounds infused with classic West Coast rap.

Kito

Kito started learning how to produce using FruityLoops and got her kickstart on Diplo’s label, Mad Decent. Her 2021 banger, ‘Recap,’ features R&B duo VanJess and Chanel Tres, and was at the top of all our dance music playlists. Fans will surely be hype to hear it live along with other familiar favorites like ‘Bitter’ plus her diverse mixes. Mashing genres and culture from her gigs around the world makes Kito’s futuristic pop sets something worth watching.

Walker & Royce

The dynamic duo that is Walker & Royce have been producing their emotive, subdued and groove-heavy deep house since 2011. Fans can expect the ‘Role Models’ to bring their futuristic sets to the desert. From Holy Ship! to EDC Las Vegas, they’ve played an array of the top festivals. It’s exciting to see what they have in store for the show as they haven’t released new music lately and fans are eager for what’s to come.

Other artists 360 is excited to check out include Yung Bae and Shallou. It’s safe to say this year’s festival is back better than ever. For more info on Splash House and the rest of this year’s lineup, visit the official Splash House website.

More Festival Announce Info:

The Summer festival series Splash House has announced the artist lineup for the first of its newly expanded triple weekend season in 2022. Celebrating its ninth edition, Splash House has established itself as a perennial favorite in the summer festival calendar, fusing forward-thinking electronic music, poolside partying, and resort amenities with the desert landscapes of Palm Springs. Splash House is now set to make a return to desert for an expanded three weekends this summer, taking place June 10-12, August 12-14, and August 19-21.

June attendees will be treated to a lineup that reflects the constant evolution of modern dance music, bringing together a mix of industry titans and emerging acts from around the world.

Artists announced for the June weekender include dance music’s most electrifying figures, such as Higher Ground and Mad Decent superstar Diplo, a DJ set from in demand Compton act and versatile beatsmith Channel Tres, and house hitters Dombresky and Noizu teaming up for a back to back set. Top billing continues with a DJ set from Sydney’s triple platinum tastemaker Hayden James, a b2b set from melodic dance producers Manila Killa and Chet Porter, electronica star Fort Romeau and groove-heavy house duo Walker & Royce.

All shades of house music in addition to crossover electronic live acts will be present throughout the weekend, including a mix of household names and emergent favorites. This includes the future-funk productions of Yung Bae, the infectious sounds of Dutch brother-sister duo Shermanology, a live set from emotive indie electronic singer and producer Shallou, bass-heavy house star Hannah Wants, and bonafide Chicago legend Gene Farris. The next generation will come proper to Splash House as well, repped by rising Australian record producer Kito, melodic house and downtempo producer Jerro, and singer-songwriter and producer Pauline Herr among many others.

By night, attendees can experience After Hours programming at the Palm Springs Air Museum while enjoying an open-air dance floor and witnessing artists perform alongside historic airplanes, all backdropped by the San Jacinto Mountains. This location has become a staple of the Splash House experience, while also hosting the debut of Desert Air last December. UK hitmaker Duke Dumont and progressive house favorite Yotto have been announced as the headliners, set to carry the day party into the after party at the air museum.

Attendees will again be spread across three resort venues, the Renaissance, Margaritaville, and Saguaro Hotels, which each have their own distinct feel transporting fans to multiple eras of Palm Springs aesthetic history all within the festival footprint.

It remains Splash House’s style-forward and fun-loving community that makes the event what it is. A hideaway from the urban sprawl of Los Angeles, Splash House fosters an environment fit for music fans, fashionistas, travelers, and those seeking a different kind of festival.

All currently available pass types and hotel package options can be viewed at splashhouse.com. GA passes for the June edition start at $189. Guests must be 21+ in order to purchase.

The electronic music supergroup’s last performance at Ushuaïa Ibiza was one of the most memorable shows in the club’s history, so as they continue their long-standing history with Ibiza’s #1 open-air club this summer, the trio’s return to Ibiza is a landmark occasion not to be missed.

Ushuaïa Ibiza is known across the globe for creating world-class music experiences featuring the biggest artists on the planet alongside mind-blowing production, avant-garde visuals and a powerful sound system. When paired with the all-conquering sounds of the Swedish House Mafia, it will be one of the most unforgettable nights of the summer.  Ticket on sale now, get yours before it’s too late.
