K-POP STAR SOMI — “DUMB DUMB”

Canadian-Dutch-Korean singer-songwriter SOMI releases her brand-new single entitled “DUMB DUMB” today along with the music video. This is the K-Pop sensation’s first single since her 2020 Interscope Records debut “What You Waiting For,” a larger than life anthem for which the video surpassed 7.5 million views on YouTube in 24 hours. “DUMB DUMB” marks a new chapter for SOMI as she enters the next phase of her music career with more new music on the horizon. SOMI’s “DUMB DUMB” is available now at all digital retail providers via THEBLACKLABEL/Interscope Records. You can listen to “DUMB DUMB” HERE.

“DUMB DUMB” depicts the playful story of a confrontation between a confident girl and her crush. With “DUMB DUMB,” SOMI’s iconic playful attitude has been upgraded with maturity, both in her vocals and in her looks. Her expressive attitude is backed by the track’s powerful beat while her strong dance performance will leave viewers captivated. “DUMB DUMB” was co-written by SOMI and the production was created by THEBLACKLABEL’s founder, Teddy, along with producers R.TEE and 24. Together, they created a track unique for SOMI.

SOMI says, “Hey guys, I am back with ‘DUMB DUMB’! I love how this track shows all of my personality everything from cute, sassy, playful to fierce. The dance is really fun as well, I’m excited to see all your guys’ covers. It’s been a busy year since my last release, from participating in the songwriting of ‘DUMB DUMB’ to working on a lot of different music. I can’t wait for you guys to see everything I have planned for this year!”

The music video for “DUMB DUMB” finds SOMI coming into her own as a bold, self-assured young woman who knows what she wants, as she pursues her crush at school. Between scenes of SOMI having fun with her girlfriends, going out of her way to stand out from the crowd at a party, purposely walking into her crush in the school hallway, SOMI makes sure her efforts to get her crush’s attention do not go unnoticed. With countless costume changes and choreographed dance breaks with some of her signature moves, this video perfectly captures the song’s energy and SOMI’s newfound direction. You can watch the music video HERE.

About SOMI:

Born as Ennik Somi Douma in 2001 in Ontario, Canada, SOMI grew up in Seoul, South Korea known as Jeon So-mi. After several commercial ventures, SOMI ultimately became known after winning Produce 101, a South Korean TV singing competition, and subsequently became part of the project girl group I.O.I. After winning first place on Korean reality singing competition Produce 101, the young musician joined THEBLACKLABEL and began her musical partnership with producer Teddy. SOMI emerged as a solo artist in June 2019 with her single “BIRTHDAY,” which has since amassed over 73M streams worldwide on Spotify and over 91M views on YouTube to date (Click HERE to watch). In 2020, SOMI signed to Interscope Records as part of the label’s partnership with THEBLACKLABEL and released her previous single, “What You Waiting For,” which has racked up over 56M streams on Spotify alone and over 48M views on YouTube to date (Click HERE to watch).  In addition, SOMI’s multifarious commercial and acting career has also included being global ambassador for Louis Vuitton, Samsung and coverage in Vogue and W.

JONAH NILSSON — “DIAMOND RING”

Jonah Nilsson, lead vocalist for Dirty Loops, a major YouTube sensation, has teamed up with guitar legend Steve Vai the new single “Diamond Ring,” out today on Jammcard Records. “Diamond Ring” showcases Nilsson’s incomparable vocal range and stylings accompanied by an incredible guitar solo from Vai, the hero of shredding. Even music icon Quincy Jones, who is a huge fan and champion of Nilsson, makes an appearance in the music video. You can listen to “Diamond Ring” HERE.

“He’s different though, he’s got the perfect balance of right brain creativity and left brain music theory. It’s in his blood,” praises Quincy Jones. “He’s got soul, with one of the biggest ranges I’ve ever heard.”

Quincy discovered the Swedish singer and multi-instrumentalist through his work with Dirty Loops, taking Jonah under the wing of his management team for a solo record, due out later this summer. “Diamond Ring” also features Kristian Kraftling (keys), Jesper the Creator (guitar), Kefa Figaro (drums) and Tobias Grenholm (bass).

“I’m so so excited to present this song that has been in the works for a long time!” Jonah shares. “It’s a very dance-friendly song with lots of fun musical elements with Steve Vai ending the song with a crazy solo! I thought to myself, this song needs the most epic, crazy, guitar-hero solo possible and there is only one person who could’ve delivered that. STEVE VAI!”

Jonah and Steve, both powerhouses in their respective talents, ran in similar circles in the music industry, and ultimately bonded over their common interest as master multi-instrumental musicians. They decided to work on “Diamond Ring” together, giving the song a genre-defying edge that blends rock, soul, R&B, funk and pop together under one roof.

“There’s a new breed of brilliant evolutionary musicians breaking onto the scene, and this track is the evidence,” Vai says. “It takes pop to another dimension of groove, musicality and overall bad-assery. It’s amazeballs.”

“Diamond Ring” follows Jonah’s recent cover of the Michael Jackson classic “Bad,” where he adds his own spin and signature technique to create a version that’s more powerful than ever. “Bad” features Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater), Anomalie and Justin Lee Schultz. Jonah’s take on “Bad” beams with all the elements of a worldwide pop star in the making, while paying homage to the soul and spirit that originally made the track a hit in 1987, and adding a modern flavor that gives this version an entire life of its own.

The funk-pop artist has come a long way since his childhood dreams of becoming an artist. Singing has been part of his life essentially since birth. Jonah started singing at his parent’s church choir at the tender age of one. Then, at the onset of his skyrocketing career, Jonah’s life changed overnight when he and a couple long-time friends uploaded their own covers of huge pop hits like Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance” and Justin Bieber’s “Baby” to Youtube. The unique covers spread like wildfire in the music community, garnered them millions of views, and got them the attention of many acclaimed artists, namely 16x Grammy Award winning producer David Foster. David took them under his wing and signed the trio named Dirty Loops to their first record deal at Verve Records. And just like that, Jonah went from singing in his friend’s basement to becoming an international touring star.

Jonah has made a name for himself through his pop sensibilities and masterful knowledge of music theory from his studies at the Royal Academy of Music, which set him apart in this new democratized era in which almost anyone can call themselves an artist.

Since Jonah’s early rise to fame, he’s since got a few headliner world tours under his belt and has acquired a significant fanbase of high-profile musicians, including Maroon 5 lead singer Adam Levine, Brian McKnight, Rodney Jerkins, Dallas Austin and the incredible Stevie Wonder. Even though that’s enough for some, Jonah’s humble demeanor continues to push him forward. His cheery outlook on life gives you the sense he’s unfazed and ready to continue giving the gift of music.

Jonah’s debut single, “Coffee Break,” featuring Richard Bona, was self-produced and released in 2018 one version which also features LUCAS from the massively popular K-pop group NCT and released by SM Entertainment. Since then, he has also released a cinematic single “Borrowed Time” and the jaw-dropping performance video of “Work Shit Out” with Dirty Loops. Jonah will continue to share new music, and when asked about how his music will differ from Dirty Loops, he says that the music will continue to have the flirtatious and cheeky sound that they were notorious for, but with more R&B and pop elements.

“I never in a million years thought I’d be here,” confesses Jonah. His piercing blue eyes and huge smile gives you the feeling that he’s wholeheartedly telling the truth. “Living in the present has kept my feet on the ground. I just want to create meaningful music… everything else that happens is extra.”

Your Choice additionally catapulted to No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart, ranking as America’s best-selling album of the week.

Released on June 18, the EP recorded 1.36 million sales during the first week of release, bringing in the act’s fourth million seller achievement and setting a new sales record with the most first-week sales of any album released in Korea in 2021.

SEVENTEEN will be holding their on- and off-line fan meet 2021 SVT 5TH FAN MEETING ‘SEVENTEEN in CARAT LAND’ from 6th to 8th of August.

About SEVENTEEN:

Racking up 2 billion streams and selling 7.5 million albums, SEVENTEEN has rocketed to the forefront of the global music industry fueled by a fiercely independent spirit, in-house creative ecosystem, and one irresistible work after another. The group’s innovative structure hinges on the interplay of three units: the hip-hop team led by S.COUPS, vocal team led by WOOZI, and performance team led by HOSHI. Living up to the title of “self-producing idols” the self-contained and self-empowered act has unassumingly made history and become one of the biggest K-pop groups ever due to their world-class synchronization, jaw-dropping choreography, and tight teamwork.

SEVENTEEN’s 2015 debut EP, 17 CARAT, emerged as “the longest running album on the Billboard World Albums Chart,” remaining in the chart for eleven weeks. Billboard crowned An Ode the “Best K-pop Album of 2019” as the act packed arenas and sold over half a million tickets. The EP Heng:garæ elevated them to rarified air in 2020. Over 1 million copies were sold during the week of release. Not to mention, it earned “the third best first-week sales in South Korea.” On its heels, they eclipsed 1 billion total streams on Spotify. With their following EP ; [Semicolon], the act made their U.S. TV debut on The Late Late Show with James Corden.

TWICE × Taste of Love

TWICE’s new album, Taste of Love, marks their first Billboard Top 10 as the hit reaches #6.

Global K-pop icons, TWICE, officially reached the #6 chart-topping position on the Billboard 200 chart with their new album, Taste of Love, as well as #1 on the Billboard Top Album Sales Chart. This high Billboard 200 ranking marks a first for the group, jumping up 66 slots from their most recent #72 position for Eyes wide open. Taste of Love pushed the musical boundaries for the group, while in return earning TWICE their first top 10 album to date. The group initially ranked in the Billboard 200 chart in June 2020 with their album MORE & MORE, closely followed by Eyes wide open later that same year. To say TWICE had an impressive 12 months would be an understatement, but the group’s driving force remains the same. The focus has always been and will continue to be, the bond between TWICE and their fans, ONCE.

“We look forward to growing more and more with our fans,” said TWICE in a group statement. “Thank you for being with us.”

TWICE has worked diligently to get to this point. In 2019, the group successfully completed their World Tour, TWICELIGHTS, which included sold-out shows in the U.S. at The Forum in Los Angeles, the Prudential Center in Newark (where they performed in front of 11,000 fans), and a show at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago. In February 2020, TWICE signed with Republic Records and launched their original  YouTube series “TWICE: Seize the Light.” With the higher chart rankings coming in just this time last year, the group turned it up a notch with their recent broadcast hits. TWICE performed I CAN’T STOP ME off MORE & MORE for Late Show with Stephen Colbert’s #PLAYATHOME YouTube series. Within the last 6-months, TWICE has been gracing screens everywhere. They performed on the prestigious TIME 100 Talks, had their U.S. broadcast debut on The Kelly Clarkson Show, and last week performed their new single Alcohol-Free on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Throughout the last six years, TWICE has become a globally renowned phenomenon, rapidly taking the U.S. and beyond by storm – including the moment they graced Allure Magazine’s May 2020 cover. Their 2020 chart-topping albums, MORE & MORE and Eyes wide open, were included in TIME, Billboard, Teen Vogue, PAPER, and BuzzFeed’s roundup of top albums of the year. MORE & MORE also marked the first time TWICE have been included in Billboard’s Artist 100 and Billboard 200 lists, becoming the fifth all-female musical act from their country to rank on the 200 charts. In addition, Eyes wide open, hit the top five slot on the all-genre iTunes US Album Sales Chart, debuted at No. 8 on Billboard’s World Albums chart, and ranked #72 on the Billboard 200 Chart.

“The collective continues its artistic evolution” – BILLBOARD

“The young women have shown their multifaceted approach to music and ability to showcase new charms with each release, with “Alcohol-Free” being no exception” – ROLLING STONE

“TWICE succeed in their desire to bring their fans ‘good vibes’ in unprecedented times” – NME

About TWICE:

Formed under K-pop powerhouse JYP Entertainment in 2015, TWICE is one of the best-selling K-pop girl groups of all time regarding physical album sales. The group first rose to prominence with their debut title song Like OOH-AHH, and the 2016 breakthrough single CHEER UP which went on to top multiple Korean pop charts and won ‘Song of the Year’ at the Melon Music Awards and Mnet Asian Music Awards. The group was also included in Variety’s Youth Impact Report as the only K-pop group included in the list. The group was included in Forbes Korea Power Celebrity issue in both 2019 and 2017; and was also included in 18th place and as the only Asian act in Billboard’s 21 Under 21 2017: Music’s Next Generation issue. Last year, TWICE’s album MORE & MORE made its first ranking on the Artist 100 and Billboard 200 lists. Their second 2020 album, Eyes wide open, hit the top five slot on the all-genre iTunes US Album Sales Chart and debuted at No. 8 on Billboard’s World Albums chart; and the album’s lead track debuted in the top 10 of the all-genre iTunes US Song Sales Chart. The group hit their first top 10 album for Taste of Love, ranking it at #6 on the Billboard 200 chart. TWICE recently performed Alcohol-Free on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, CRY FOR ME on The Kelly Clarkson Show, I CAN’T STOP ME on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’s #PLAYATHOME digital YouTube series, and DEPEND ON YOU on TIME100 Talks.

NCT 127 – Save

K-Pop superstars NCT 127 released their new digital track and music video “Save,” produced by the legendary Gaeko of Dynamicduo- the Korean group with the best-selling Korean hip hop album in record history. The track is part of a special project via Amoeba Culture and represents the first music NCT 127 has released as a group since their 2021 Japanese EP, Loveholic. Excitement from the group’s loyal fans, NCTzens, has been brewing since the song was first teased last week. Now everyone can finally listen to “Save” across digital platforms HERE!

This is only the latest in what has been an exciting year for the members and fans of NCT 127. Just last month NCT 127 mesmerized audiences with an electrifying performance of their song “Kick It” as part of international advocacy organization Global Citizen’s VAX LIVE: The Concert to Reunite the World.

The NCTzens have been a fierce unit helping drive NCT 127’s music and platforms to record-breaking heights, including their recent milestone of reaching over 100 million views for the “Kick It” music video on YouTube. They also had the group trending on Twitter last week when member Taeyong shared in an interview that the group was preparing for a new album. NCTzens’ excitement helped earn them a major nod with the group’s nomination for Best Fan Army at iHeartRadio’s 2021 Music Awards.

Collaboration with Samsung and SAVE Campaign

Samsung collaborated with the band for the release of the powerful track and music video for “Save” in order to raise awareness of the role of the company’s memory solutions in everyday life.

From Samsung’s smartphones to its cloud storage systems, one of the main roles its devices play is to store information and treasured memories securely and for a long time to come. At the heart of how this data remains saved is Samsung Electronics’ market-leading semiconductor solutions, and so in order to raise awareness of just how crucial a role these chips play in our day-to-day lives, Samsung is launching its all-new SAVE campaign.

The word “save” has many meanings: “to store,” “to gather,” “to cherish,” “to protect,” “to recover,” and “to liberate” being just a few. Accordingly, the “SAVE” campaign’s message is ‘Samsung Memory Saves All the Progress in the World,’ a slogan that summarizes Samsung’s commitment to contributing to society in ways that benefit everyone and bring about a better world for all through technology solutions that preserve the multifarious values and experiences of societies from all corners in the world.

Samsung has released a dedicated campaign film showcasing the long-term vision and values that drive Samsung Memory. Watch HERE.

Samsung has also created a new, modern design for the SAVE campaign based on the iconic “save” symbol in order to highlight the importance of saving and put forward the idea of saving for a new generation. Combining elements of the original floppy disc shape, today’s SSD solutions, modern SD card design, and the ‘download’ arrow symbol, this new design brings together saving solutions old and new to operate as a universal symbol for memory–and the concept of saving.

TOMORROW X TOGETHER

K-POP’S 4TH GENERATION LEADERS TOMORROW X TOGETHER RELEASED NEW ALBUM THE CHAOS CHAPTER: FREEZE

K-pop’s 4th generation ‘It’ Boys make their return with title track “0X1=LOVESONG (I Know I Love You) feat. Seori”

K-pop’s 4th generation ‘It’ boys TOMORROW X TOGETHER (SOOBIN, YEONJUN, BEOMGYU, TAEHYUN, HUENING KAI) have finally released their long-awaited second studio album on May 31.

The Chaos Chapter: FREEZE begin’s the Chaos Chapter, TOMORROW X TOGETHER’s second album series, following their previous Dream Chapter series. It tells the tale of a boy who has frozen as a result of the onslaught of the world.

The unequivocal declaration of a boy’s first love takes musical form in TOMORROW X TOGETHER’s new title track: “0X1=LOVESONG (I Know I Love You) feat. Seori” (read “zero by one lovesong”). The trendy Hybrid pop rock song expresses a boy’s certainty in the love he feels for ‘you,’ who came to him in a world of chaos. The title uses numbers to visually represent that in this world of zero, ‘you’ are my one and only.

The title track is notable for the name of its global contributors. The song is the collaborative effort between producers of HYBE’s labels Slow Rabbit and “hitman” bang, American singer-songwriter and Rock Hip hop artist Mod Sun and No Love For The Middle Child as songwriters, and RM of BTS who helped pen the lyrics.

Other songs within the eight-track studio album include “Anti-Romantic,” “0X1=LOVESONG (I Know I Love You) feat. Seori,” “Magic,” “Ice Cream,” “What if I had been that PUMA,” “No Rules,” “Dear Sputnik” and “Frost.”

The Chaos Chapter: FREEZE also includes genuine and very personal creative contributions from all five members, drawing empathy from teens all over the world through unique and individualized lyrics. “Ice Cream” was penned in part by SOOBIN, “What if I had been that PUMA” by YEONJUN, TAEHYUN, and BEOMGYU, “No Rules” by YEONJUN, HUENINGKAI, BEOMGYU, and TAEHYUN. TAEHYUN wrote both music and lyrics for “Dear Sputnik,” while HUENINGKAI wrote lyrics and marked his first producing credit for the same track. “Frost” saw lyrical contributions by YEONJUN.

The Chaos Chapter: FREEZE has recorded over 700K pre-orders, marking a new high for the young group. Evidently, TOMORROW X TOGETHER are continuing their track of successive growth with each release.

Wonho Kiiara Single Artwork via BMG Rights Management

Wonho × Kiiara – Ain’t About You

Singer-Songwriter-Producer Wonho has released his highly anticipated collaborative music video,Ain’t About You, with multi-platinum artist Kiiara. For the first time during his solo career, Wonho has teamed up with an American artist. Kiiara’s smooth vocals blend seamlessly with Wonho’s, creating an addictive bittersweet breakup track. What the video HERE.

“Ain’t About You” comes off Wonho’s chart dominating album Love Synonym #2: Right for Us which dropped in February, with Forbes noting this accomplishment; “Wonho debuts five new singles on the World Digital Song Sales chart, meaning he claims 20% of the entire ranking. That type of domination isn’t unheard of, but it is still relatively uncommon on any Billboard chart.” Within a few hours of its release, the album took over the #1 spot on the iTunes K-Pop Albums Chart, trended all over Twitter Worldwide, and peaked at #3 on the iTunes Pop Albums Charts. It also made quite the impression within the media world all over the globe, with NME referring to it as “…a well-balanced equilibrium in both sound and vibe,” Teen Vogue calling it a “…delightful, concise EP” and Forbes naming him as one of “The K-Pop Solo Stars Who Could Break In America In 2021.”

Kiiara, whose career took off with her triple-platinum breakout single “Gold,” vaulting to the Top 5 of the Billboard Top Pop Songs Chart and the Top 15 of the Hot 100 in addition to generating over 700 million streams, has had an unbelievable five-year trip to self-discovery. In what feels like the blink of an eye, she went from uploading music out of her teenage bedroom in Illinois to multiplatinum pop stardom. In 2015, she quietly enchanted listeners everywhere with an uncompromising and unapologetic deconstruction of pop. It paved the way for the Low Kii Savage EP as she sold out her first headline tour, graced the stage of Lollapalooza, and made her late-television debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Plus, she garnered tastemaker praise from Variety, Rolling Stone, PAPER, and Idolator, to name a few. In addition to dropping fan favorites such as “Whippin’” feat. Felix Snow, “Messy,” and more, “Feels” achieved a gold certification. Simultaneously, she became a sought-after collaborator, contributing her instantly recognizable vocals to the Bright soundtrack banger “Darkside” by Ty Dolla $ign and Future, “Complicated” by Dimitri Vegas, Like Mike and David Guetta, “Be Somebody” by Steve Aoki and Nicky Romero, and the gold-certified smash hit “Heavy” by Linkin Park. Representing a full circle moment, she accompanied her “favorite band” on stage multiple times and honored the late frontman Chester Bennington by joining a stacked bill at the Linkin Park and Friends: Celebrate Life in Honor of Chester Bennington concert event. Last fall saw the release of her acclaimed debut album Lil Kiiwi featuring standout single “So Sick” feat. blackbear.
