TheHxliday- “Thank U”

Up-and-coming rapper, singer and songwriter, TheHxliday, has shared his latest single, a painfully honest and powerful track called “Thank U.” Showcasing his moody hybrid of dark pop, hip-hop, and alt-R&B, “Thank U” is the Baltimore native’s first new music since signing to Motown Records earlier this year and is the lead single off his forthcoming BatBoy EP coming in 2021. You can download and stream “Thank U” HERE.

“Kids these days feel the urge to take drugs to help cope with their emotions,”  said TheHxliday. “With ‘Thank U’ it’s a message saying ‘You can take drugs. You can take anything you want but it’s only going to make things worse.’ You don’t need that to heal they’re better things to do.”

Propelled by potent trap beats and dreamy guitar tones, “Thank U” is a vulnerable yet urgent meditation on turning to drugs as a coping mechanism for problems like depression. With his vocals shifting from soulful to raw, TheHxliday created the song in order to shed light on the mental health issues at the root of drug abuse for so many of his peers.

At just 18-years-old, TheHxliday has already made waves with hits like “Save Me,” an independently released track whose Cole Bennett-directed video has amassed over 5 million views to date. Soon after signing to Motown Records, he re-released his breakout EP Broken Halls with the addition of new tracks  “Late Night Feelings” and “Make A Move.” Check out Broken Halls here.

TheHxliday is at the forefront of a new wave of rock stars inspired by rappers, pop idols, and rock bands of the past. With his work already championed by major outlets like Complex and Lyrical Lemonade, he’s also featured on  Familiar and Let You Down from Internet Money’s 2020 debut album B4 the Storm.

An ace at only 18-years-old, TheHxliday mixes his melodic flow and thumping trap beats to forge his sad boy sound. The rapper, singer and songwriter is a Baltimore native who creates hits straight out of his bedroom, expressing his singular and centric ideas to separate himself from the norm.

Inspired by the likes of Trippie Redd, XXXTentacion, Justin Bieber, Linkin Park, and My Chemical Romance, TheHxliday is paving his own path with the dynamic palette of dark pop, R&B, and hip-hop showcased on his EP Broken Halls. His biggest hit to date “Save Me”  is a banger, and just one of over 1,000 songs created so far. According to TheHxliday,  Save Me is a  firecracker compared to the bombs forthcoming.

RUN DMC × 12on12 - limited edition vinyl

RUN DMC × 12on12 – limited edition vinyl

Following their acclaimed project with Travis Scott and fashion house Saint Laurent, 12on12 announced their latest collaboration with cultural icons and hip-hop legends RUN DMC.

The pioneering New York group have curated an exclusive limited edition 12″ vinyl-only compilation with bespoke artwork by rising LA artist Reena Tolentino, aka ‘RT’. 12on12 RUN DMC limited edition vinyl will be released on the 8th December by 12on12.

The 12on12 deluxe, double disc package is limited to 500 hand-numbered editions and embodies the story of RUN-DMC’s legacy within the handpicked iconic track-listing, featuring songs that inspired, affected and changed the ground-breaking group’s music.

The first release in celebration of the 35th anniversary of seminal 1986 album Raising Hell, RUN DMC pay tribute to their late bandmate Jam Master Jay and dedicate this project in his honour.

The release offers a fascinating insight into RUN DMC, one of the most influential groups of all time. Alongside tracks by early rap trailblazers The Sugarhill Gang and Afrika Bambaataa, the group have also highlighted songs that helped form the sonic foundations of the nascent hip hop sound as it emerged and evolved in New York in the early 1980s, including the breaks-goldmine of MFSB’s Love Is The Message and Kraftwerk’s game-changing Trans-Europe Express, a song rarely licensed for any compilation.

The unique work of art for the record has been designed by one of the most exciting names on the LA art scene, Reena Tolentino. A visual artist and actor, RT’s work rose to prominence after her acclaimed mural of late basketball icon Kobe Bryant. In addition to providing artwork and portraits of RUN DMC for the project she has also reinterpreted one of the most iconic hip-hop logo’s of all time with a rework of the classic RUN DMC logo.

The release continues to cement 12on12’s reputation for unique ‘vinylworks’ and bespoke collectors’ editions that live at the intersection of music, art and pop culture, providing a unique canvas for cultural icons to curate the soundtracks to their lives.

With global trends growing around nostalgia and legacy artists dominating consumption both within rising vinyl sales and across streaming platforms, 12on12 continue to prove themselves an exciting creative brand capturing an incresingly powerful part of the zeitgeist.

ABOUT RUN DMC

INNOVATORS. ORIGINATORS. RUN DMC’s influence on the music of the new millennium goes every bit as deep as that of Elvis Presley or The Beatles. With a career that has spanned over 30 years and 30 million record sales, the trio set the stage not only for themselves, but for an industry, for a generation and for generations to come.

Joseph “DJ Run” Simmons, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, and the late great Jason “Jam Master Jay” Mizell roared out of Hollis, Queens with 1983’s “It’s Like That”/”Sucker MCs”, transforming R&B party funk with a new combination of sparse beats and hard production textures. Within a year, they took another giant step by combining rock guitar with hip-hop in the single “Rock Box.”

The huge popularity of RUN DMC produced rap’s first gold album (RUN-DMC, 1984) and its first platinum album (King of Rock, 1985). RUN DMC’s 1986 album ”Raising Hell” caused an even greater cross-cultural explosion with their hard-core hip-hop classic “My Adidas” and collaboration with Aerosmith on “Walk This Way” – a track that redefined genre boundaries and put rap in the Billboard Pop Top 10 for the first time ever.

RUN DMC have always been trailblazers, the first rappers to appear on MTV, American Bandstand, Saturday Night Live and the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. They were the first rap act nominated for a Grammy Award (Best R&B Vocal Performance by a Group, 1986 for Raising Hell). Tragedy struck the group when Jam Master Jay was murdered in his recording studio on October 30, 2002. Shocked and saddened by the loss of their band mate Run and DMC went their separate ways. As they told the media, “We lost our drummer, we’re not RUN DMC without Jay.”

In 2009 RUN DMC were inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and in 2011 Rolling Stone named them one of the 50 Greatest Artists of All Time. Rev Run and DMC started performing together again at select shows to help bring attention and funding to the Jam Master Jay Foundation, continuing to inspire new generations of fans with the same verve they showed over three decades

SFERA EBBASTA × J BALVIN - “BABY”

SFERA EBBASTA ×  J BALVIN – “BABY”

After the release of his album FAMOSO, today international superstar Sfera Ebbasta unloads the video for the standout single, “Baby” with J Balvin.

WATCH OFFICIAL VIDEO HERE

The new album, FAMOSO, released on November 20th, has been welcomed internationally with a standing ovation. All 13 tracks debuted at the top 200 Global Spotify chart while disintegrating all past records and achieving new heights for Italian albums. It received 16M streams in 24 hours while climbing the first 13 positions in the Italian top 50 chart on Spotify. FAMOSO is the most-streamed album ever on release date on Spotify and the 2nd most-streamed album Globally.

Today, Sfera Ebbasta flexes as a major player in the game with the release of the video for the international focus track, “Baby” with J Balvin.

J Balvin expressed the wish to see the birth of a truly international Latin gang, an artistic partnership between Italy, Colombia and the whole Latin world. “Baby” marks the beginning of a journey destined to bring Italian music where it has rarely landed. Sfera and J Balvin met when the king of the trap made a remix of the track “Machika”. In the film Famoso, directed by Pepsy Romanoff and distributed worldwide by Amazon Prime video, the Colombian artist talks about his relationship with Sfera:

“At the time of the “Machika” remix I didn’t know him personally, but now we’re friends. There is nothing planned, no strategy, just a true friendship. One day I went to Italy, I looked at what was happening in the music world and there were 5 Sfera tracks at the top of the chart. I said to myself: and where is my music? (Editor’s note laughs) – and then adds – It’s a real movement! And for this, I respect my little brother because yes … he is like a brother to me! He is a big star in Italy and I think he will soon be one everywhere. He has all my support and my respect. I really think we are at the beginning of a real worldwide Latin gang and I want to see my people win! ” – J BALVIN

In the video directed by Mattia Benetti and produced by Ocean Code Studio, we see Sfera and J Balvin together for the first time, immersed in a parallel universe, in those fantasy worlds where everything seems possible; golden statues emerging from the sea, sharks swimming over the city skyline and purple skies where gigantic planets stand out in a magnetic, almost hypnotic way. Between mermaids swimming above Sferas car and landscapes like el dorado, the song, produced by Sky Rompiendo, with its up tempo makes us understand why it has been chosen as the first international focus single and how it is possible that in only four days after its release, “Baby” is already a hit. The track is already at #1 on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music and Youtube Italy.

Under the artistic direction of Charlie Charles, FAMOSO is the most important album in Sferas career, a boy who comes from nowhere and has never had help of any kind and who together with extraordinary teamwork, managed to become the most important Italian recording phenomenon in recent history. Results such as the one achieved by “Baby,” certify his entry into the very small circle of European artists who are truly recognized, respected, and above all listened to in the world. However, knowing the hunger of Sfera Ebbasta, his desire to continually improve himself, we are only at the beginning.

Slatt Zy - East Lake Projects

Slatt Zy – East Lake Projects

Rising Chattanooga, Tennessee, rapper Slatt Zy introduces the world to the neighborhood that shaped him to be the 18-year-old man he is today through his new project, East Lake Projects, out today on 100k Management. The release is named after the housing development he was raised in alongside his musically inclined family of 11 brothers and sisters. Fans of Slatt Zy will quickly recognize his effortless flow, which moves from melodic, growled bars to more mournful, introspective lines. Listen HERE. Watch the new video directed by Jordan Spencer for  “First Year (feat. Pooh Shiesty) HERE.

“East Lake Projects is where I became a man. It was tough to value life there, and getting over that made me a man. To me it ‘s more than projects – it ‘s my family, and we got through together. 17 people in 2 rooms, 12 people sleeping on one floor ߝ granny, 11 siblings, auntie. We been through struggles together.” Says Slatt Zy.  “We been through everything -shoot outs, hungriness, shoeless, people dying. East Lake Projects is where all my problems came from and made me grown early, but my happy times came from there too. I couldn ‘t imagine any other way to be. The projects may have given me scars and bruises, but also motivated me to be the nigga I am today. “

While Zy ‘s April debut, Zy Story, introduced audiences to his unique vocal approach and innate ear for melody, East Lake Projects showcases a more vulnerable, personal side of the rapper. On the first track,  “Straight Out Them Projects, “Zy immediately establishes the tone of the record. Over melancholic piano chords, he sings,  “We come from poverty / We had to find a way / Straight out them projects, ain ‘t had shit, I had to find a way. “East Lake Projects is deeply indebted to Zy ‘s childhood, and on the project, he aims to shine a light on the community he grew up in and the violence that still plagues it.

Zy offered a preview of East Lake Projects back in October when he released the video for  “How It Go (feat. Hotboii),” which is at nearly a million views. On the track, Zy takes on the vivacious hook while Hotboii delivers smooth melodic verses. The song is one of the more playful, freewheeling cuts on the project, showing that even when Slatt Zy is excavating his emotions, he ‘s able to turn up too.

Zy prides himself on his incredible work ethic and desire to provide his family a better life. In less than a year, he has released over 10 music videos, in addition to Zy Story. With early support from HotNewHipHop, WorldStarHipHop, SAY CHEESE!, Lyrical Lemonade, and ELEVATOR MAGAZINE, it ‘s clear Slatt Zy is on the way up. Zy has come a long way from sleeping on the living room floor with 11 other people and having to attend school with no shoes to now trading in his braces for his first set of diamond grillz.

New Music Video for Celeste – A Little Love

Celeste today shares the video for her new track “A Little Love” released via Interscope Records. The song was written and recorded for the UK John Lewis and Waitrose Christmas advertising campaign called “Give A Little Love” and has been widely praised as a Christmas classic in the making. “A Little Love” entered the Top 40 in the UK Official Charts the week after release as well as the Top 100 in Amazon and Apple Music Charts and #1 on the Shazam Chart. The John Lewis and Waitrose ad itself has had over 10 million combined views to date.

YouTube Music EMEA has today named Celeste as the next talent in their Artist On The Rise series, which celebrates and supports the most exciting new artists in the UK. The video for “A Little Love” was directed by Silent Tapes Films – who also directed the haunting video for Celeste’s “Strange”- and premiered on YouTube this morning.

“A Little Love” is the first original song commissioned by John Lewis and Waitrose for their Christmas advertising campaigns which – inspired by the kindness shown by the British public during the pandemic – encourages viewers to give a little love to others. Two new joint ads encourage the nation to spread kindness and help raise £4m for two charities – Home-Start and FareShare. A further £1m will be donated by Waitrose and John Lewis branches to local charities supporting families in need. Every time “A Little Love” is downloaded Celeste and Polydor Records will make a donation to the campaign.

Brit-Award winning Celeste was approached by John Lewis Partnership and asked to write a song which reflects the poignant theme of this year’s ad campaign, which celebrates kindness as the nation is encouraged to “Give A Little Love.” Celeste says, “I felt honoured to be asked to take part. I wanted to create something that felt classic but still true to who I am as a writer and performer.”

Commenting on the song Claire Pointon, Customer Director for John Lewis said; “We immediately knew that Celeste was right for our campaign. Her voice is timeless and magical. Her song blew us away.”

CELESTE’S ACHIEVEMENTS

The song marks another milestone in the ascension of the British-Jamaican soul singer and songwriter who won both the BRITs Rising Star Award and BBC Music’s Sound last year and is the breakthrough artist of 2020. It follows the release last month of “Hear My Voice” which was co-written with Golden Globe®-nominated composer Daniel Pemberton and is the focus track of the Netflix film The Trial of the Chicago 7, written and directed by Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Aaron Sorkin. “Hear My Voice” is predicted by Variety to be an Oscars contender for Best Original Song at the Academy Awards next year.

lilspirit – serpent

Bay Area native lilspirit releases his latest single “serpent,” out now on 10K Projects/Internet Money Records. The single arrives at the end of the young pop-R&B artist’s biggest year yet. He dropped his debut album American Spirit in May, featuring hit track “droptopbitch” (8.9M+ Soundcloud streams), earning him acclaim from Ones to Watch, Office Magazine, Lyrical Lemonade and more. This year, lilspirit also appeared on Internet Money’s star-studded album B4 The Storm with his track “Devastated,” written and produced alongside Taz Taylor, Nick Mira and Alec Wigdahl. As lilspirit prepares to release his next project in early 2021, he wanted to treat fans to one last single before the holidays with “serpent.”

LISTEN TO “serpent” HERE

Born Geno Gitas, lilspirit grew up in the Bay Area and started playing piano as a little kid, later taking up guitar and drums. At the age of 14, he began producing his own music with the help of Garage Band and beats lifted from YouTube, mining inspiration from the underground rappers he’d discovered on SoundCloud. Soon after dropping out of high school his sophomore year, lilspirit headed down to L.A. to live with his sister—a dark-pop singer/songwriter who makes music under the name Ellise. Along with producing a number of songs for Ellise, lilspirit continued working on his own material, increasingly tapping into his incredible talent for crafting melodies

Last October, lilspirit put out a self-produced single called “Ugly,” a stark R&B-pop song speaking the unapologetic truth about a toxic relationship. In a drastic departure from the emo-rap-leaning tracks he’d previously released, “Ugly” showed off lilspirit’s soulful vocals and sophisticated sense of melody (a gift partly honed through his classical training in piano). As his following grew exponentially, the 19-year-old artist soon caught the attention of Internet Money Records/10K Projects, who signed lilspirit to a record deal just a month after “Ugly” premiered.

A highly prolific writer and musician who spends nearly every day in the studio—and recorded more than 80 songs in the past two months alone—lilspirit hopes that outpouring might leave a positive impact on his audience. “It touches my heart when fans reach out and tell me that a song I wrote helped them get through a hard time in their lives,” he says. “But at the same time, I’m not really thinking about all that when I’m writing. I’m just making music because I love to make music, so making any kind of song feels like therapy for me.”

Koe Wetzel - Sellout

KOE WETZEL RELEASES NEW ALBUM – SELLOUT

Today, genre-bending artist Koe Wetzel has released his third LP Sellout via Columbia Records. The album comes alongside an official video for new single “Cold & Alone,” which was directed by George Nienhuis and stars Wetzel as he experiences the mixed emotions that come with the demise of a relationship. Watch HERE. Produced by long-time collaborator Taylor Kimball, Sellout also includes previously released tracks “Good Die Young,” “Kuntry & Wistern,” and “Sundy or Mundy.” See full tracklisting below.

Last week, Wetzel announced that he and Read Southall will co-headline a mini acoustic tour next month along with Austin Meade who is slated to open each night. The run of shows kick off December 8 at Oklahoma City’s The Criterion where the two headliners will share a stage and trade off playing songs from their respective discographies to a limited capacity live audience. Visit https://koewetzelmusic.com/ for tickets and more information.

The Texas-born singer, songwriter, guitarist, and producer continues to unapologetically trail blaze between grunge, country, Americana, and damn near everything else under the sun on Sellout. From 2015 up until signing with Columbia Records this summer, Wetzel quietly sold over 200,000 units independently and went from playing bars with chicken wire in front of the stage to hosting and headlining his own music festival. With over 485 million streams and video views to date, Wetzel continues to build his diehard audience.

His 2017 debut Noise Complaint became a phenomenon powered by “February 28, 2016” [25.5 million Spotify streams], “Something To Talk About” [20.6 million Spotify streams], “Love” [16.1 million Spotify streams], “Fuss & Fight” [14.4 million Spotify streams], and more. The momentum continued with 2019’s Harold Saul High and its singles “Ragweed” [13.8 million Spotify streams] and “Forever” [10.8 million Spotify streams] as more sold-out shows ensued. Following a tireless grind, Wetzel surprise-released the 2020 anthem “Kuntry & Wistern,” which exploded right out of the gate trending on Apple Music. Wetzel followed with “Sundy or Mundy” in July, marking his first release with Columbia Records, which garnered praise from Rolling Stone who called the song “a mesmerizing tune.”

Sellout is available HERE.

DEATHBYROMY × "PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN"

DEATHBYROMY × “PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN”

Capitol Records released DeathbyRomy’s “Come and Play With Me,” a song she wrote and recorded for the Promising Young Woman: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, which will be released on December 4. Listen HERE. In this Refinery29 feature, which accompanied the exclusive premiere of the song, DeathbyRomy talks about collaborating with Emerald Fennell, the film’s writer-director. Fennell also served as Executive Soundtrack Producer, teaming up with music supervisor Sue Jacobs and Capitol Records.

DeathbyRomy recalls, “Upon meeting Emerald we discovered we had a lot of similar music influences. For example, we were both big NIN fans and when I learned her favorite songs of mine were my favorite deep cuts, I knew we were gonna work together beautifully.”

DeathbyRomy wrote the track with Andy Rosen, who collaborated with her on Love u   to Death, her 2019 Capitol Records debut EP. The 20-year-old singer/songwriter pours both pain and euphoria into her catchy yet dark music, pitting electronic melodies and propulsive beats against hypnotic vocals and deeply personal lyrics. Her take on “It’s Raining Men” the iconic No. 1 dance anthem originally released by The Weather Girls in 1982   also appears on the soundtrack. Listen to “It’s Raining Men” HERE.

Focus Features will release the Sundance hit Promising Young Woman on Christmas Day, Friday, December 25, 2020 in theaters domestically. View the trailer HERE. Vice observed, “[Promising Young Woman] expertly uses femme pop songs to underscore its critically acclaimed twisted tale of trauma and revenge.” Refinery 29 said, “[the] soundtrack is full of daring, empowering and straight-up fun tracks.” Vanyaland praised CYN’s “Uh Oh” as “an infectious riff-cruiser of a tune that should jump off the screen as soon as it hits.”  Noted Idolator, “The ‘Promising Young Woman’ soundtrack is a dose of girl-power. Cyn already landed a breakthrough radio hit with  ‘Drinks.’ Don’t be too surprised if she does it all over again with ‘Uh Oh.'”

Those who pre-order the 16-track collection in digital format will instantly receive “Come and Play With Me” and  “It’s Raining Men” plus CYN’s “Uh Oh” and “Drinks” and Donna Missal’s interpretation of Cigarettes After Sex’s 2012 breakthrough single, “Nothing’s Gonna Hurt You Baby.”

The soundtrack also features previously unreleased tracks from MUNA and BLESSUS plus Carmen DeLeon’s cover of the Gerry Goffin-Carole King penned “He Hit Me (And It Felt Like A Kiss”). Charli XCX’s “Boys,” Paris Hilton’s “Stars Are Blind,” Sky Ferreira’s “Downhill Lullaby” and Juice Newton’s “Angel of the Morning” are among the previously released tracks that Fennell employs to subvert the audience’s expectations over the course of the film. Other featured artists include Maya B and Lily & Madeleine.
