EVAN CRAFT DROPS DOUBLE ALBUM

Singer/Songwriter Evan Craft Drops Double Album Holy Ground Oct. 1

Holy Ground/Tierra Santa to be released in both English and Spanish.

On the heels of the success of Desesperado, Evan Craft’s double album released in 2020 in English and Spanish with a deluxe bilingual album as well, the singer/songwriter released his next full-length worship album Holy Ground (English) and Tierra Santa (Spanish) simultaneously today, Friday, October 1.

This will be Craft’s first release as a married man! Him and his wife, Rachel, were married outside Nashville, Tennessee, on September 17.

Music Background

Craft’s most recent single Be Alright, landed the #1 spot on Christian radio Mediabase audience, #3 on Billboard’s Christian/Gospel songs chart, #5 on the Billboard Christian songs chart and cracked the top 20 at radio in three weeks. The album, Desesperado, debuted at #42 on the Billboard Top 100 Christian chart.

The successes of Be Alright have garnered Craft nearly 1 billion online streams and millions of subscribers and followers across social media platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and Spotify.

The release of Holy Ground/Tierra Santa takes Craft back to the start, “Holy Ground is a very special album because it goes back to my roots as a worship leader.” He also mentions the goal he has in mind, “I get to incorporate Spanish language and experiences embedded in the lyrics from my travels throughout Latin America. We started out the year releasing pop music but I also want to lead people to a place of worship and to experience God in a very real way.”

Collaborations on this double release include Christine D’Clario on the feature track Healer, Pat Barrett (Same Spirit), Miel San Marcos (Looks Like Heaven) and Ke’Erron (Fix My Eyes/You Keep Hope Alive).

Latinx Impact

While not Hispanic, Craft has become a welcomed artist in the Latinx community not only for his authentic music, but his actions behind the words. To date he has raised more than $250k for the homeless mission in Los Angeles he co-founded called Mi Casa LA. In 2018 he rode his bicycle 1,200 miles across South America in a fundraising effort for various causes. A book and documentary of this trek are currently in the works.

Early in his career, Craft developed a deep love for the Latinx community in and around his Thousand Oaks, California, community. He began learning Spanish in high school to help his father who was running a homeless shelter in Los Angeles. In an effort to fully immerse himself in the Latin culture, Craft traveled to Mexico and other Latin American countries, which would spawn his first Spanish album.

He recorded Yo Soy Segundo in 2012 and much to Craft’s surprise, it became the No. 1 Latin Christian album. More mission trips would follow to South America and Craft’s online Spanish interpretations of popular worship songs have generated millions of views and earned him a devoted following.

“I have felt an incredible reception in Latin America,” Craft said. “I’ve been to Cuba, Venezuela, Bolivia, Paraguay, Argentina, Chile and 99% of the people have honestly embraced me. It’s overwhelming and humbling.”

Joel Rivera – ABOLITION & BLACK LIBERATION

The Stonewall Protests

By: Javier Pedroza

Joel Rivera, affectionately known as Joela Joela, was born and raised in the Bronx, New York to a mother with Trinidad and Tobago ancestry and a father from Borinquen (aka Puerto Rico). Ms Rivera is an incredible and inspirational 20-year-old Black Revolutionary who began her revolutionary work in the wake of George Floyd’s murder and the rebirth of the Black Lives Matter Movement. This Afro-Caribbean young woman says, “my mission and message are rooted in both abolition and black liberation, believing that both go hand-in-hand.” In fact, she founded The Stonewall Protests to uplift, and inspire the Black Transgender & the Queer community by centering abolition and radical love.

The Stonewall Protests is a widely known organization that brought out hundreds at a time every Thursday for necessary civil disobedience and grassroots work. Joel’s passion, voice, and message reflect the reality that Black Transgender Women face every day. She consistently inspires love, courage, and self-sufficiency. Now, Joel, alongside other comrades of the Stonewall Protests, focus on mutual-aid and community building; Joella says “This new chapter of grassroots organizing and community building for The Stonewall Protests is revolutionary. The act of loving, supporting and uplifting Black, Indigenous and People of Color communities is a necessary form of protesting because in this society we are conditioned to be ignorant, societal robots. It is easy to serve but under this system they want it to be impossible. Once people start loving themselves, they see their worth and we are worth more than what this government gives/takes”.

The Stonewall Protests is actively hosting actions to provide for black and brown communities all around New York City. Joel’s life revolves around creating a new and better world for every human being and the Latino Commission on AIDS is recognizing her contributions. This Fall, Ms. Rivera will be awarded the 2021 Youth Ambassador Award at the annual “Cielo” (Heaven) Gala, held at the prestigious Cipriani Wall Street.

Shabazz Center × Scholly Scholarship Fund

THE SHABAZZ CENTER AND SCHOLLY ANNOUNCE THE MALCOLM X AND DR. BETTY SHABAZZ SCHOLARSHIP FUND,TO CELEBRATE MALCOLM X’S 96th BIRTHDAY, SCHOLLY AND THE SHABAZZ CENTER WILL BE AWARDING THREE STUDENTS $10,000 SCHOLARSHIPS

To celebrate Malcolm X’s 96th birthday and to honor he and his wife, Dr. Betty Shabazz’s legacy, the Shabazz Center has partnered with the scholarship search app Scholly to launch the Malcolm X and Betty Shabazz Scholarship Fund.

Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz’s daughter, Ilyasah Shabazz, wanted to create the scholarship program to honor her parents’ commitment to education and empowerment of people of color. My father, Malcolm X, once said that, Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today,  Shabazz said. The opportunity to support young developing leaders and change-makers through the Scholly Scholarship in partnership with The Shabazz Center is such a rewarding investment that equally honors the lasting legacy of Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz.

Every year, thousands of graduates leave colleges and universities with millions in student debt, making it harder to begin a family, start a small business, or buy a house. Since 2015, Scholly has helped students of all ages earn more than $100 million in scholarships.

Malcolm X and his wife Betty Shabazz are icons of the civil rights movement so the Scholly team is excited to be a part of this program to help empower even more students, said Scholly CEO Christopher Gray. Also to announce such a program on Malcolm X’s birthday is a great way to honor his legacy.

In order to qualify for the scholarship, students would need to complete the application, which includes an essay writing component, to receive one of three $10,000 scholarships to be used at any college or university. Students can apply for the Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz Legacy Scholarship by visiting their website starting May 19th. The deadline to apply for the award is July 15th and the scholarship recipients will be announced in August.

Jesse Royal Announces Sophomore Album

JESSE ROYAL ANNOUNCES SOPHOMORE ALBUM ROYAL WITH THE RELEASE OF HIS NEW SINGLE

RICH FOREVER FEATURING VYBZ KARTEL

Pre-Order Royal out June 11 via Easy Star Records

Jamaican reggae star Jesse Royal unveils his latest single “Rich Forever” featuring dancehall’s self-proclaimed “World Boss” Vybz Kartel. The song is from his anticipated sophomore album Royal, slated for June 11th, 2021 via Easy Star Records. This cross-genre collaboration between both artists unifies people’s differences to support a common goal – to be “forever royal.” It serves as a reminder of the internal strength and mental fortitude human beings possess, which prepares them for success in a society designed for their failure.

“Rich Forever is a divergence from identifying with the degradation dispersed for generations by them and those who oppose reality and simply put, it is a conversation about restoration of our royalty and reclaiming dignity,” states Jesse Royal.

The beat, produced by Jamaican upstart iotosh (responsible for Protoje’s “Deliverance” and “Self Defense” and Jaz Elise’s “After 3” feat. Mortimer), starts off with eerie keyboards then introduces percussion drums and glides into a Trap-esque finish. It’s a classic representation of the current movement in Jamaican music, a melting pot of genres while still innately blending in the native sounds of the island.

Listen to single

Preceded by “LionOrder” feat. Protoje and “Natty Pablo,” the single is the third release from Jesse Royal’s upcoming album Royal. His sophomore LP is rich with collaboration. In addition to Vybz Kartel and Protoje, he taps reggae singer Kumar, Ghanaian afrobeats artist Stonebwoy, Jamaica’s rising singer Samory I and the island’s latest talent Runkus for guest features. Jesse delves into a more colorful palette of genres on the album, ranging from reggae, dancehall, afrobeats, soul, jazz and trap. As his sound evolves, so does his subject matter. Whether it is an open letter to his daughter on “Home,” empowerment on “Rich Forever” and “Black,” corrupted politics on “Dirty Money,” love dilemmas on “Like Dat” and “Differences” or Rasta social commentary on “Natty Pablo” and “LionOrder,” the singer explores a combination of varying themes. The LP will arrive four years after Jesse Royal’s debut album Lily Of Da Valley, which was also released via Easy Star Records, the label whose commitment to spotlighting reggae and dancehall music dates back to almost 25 years.

ABOUT JESSE ROYAL

Jesse Royal is an internationally acclaimed singer, songwriter, performer, and recording artist from Kingston, Jamaica. Through vivid storytelling rooted in the belief of a universal truth, his music carries a message of hope, strength, love, and consciousness. Not just a musician, Royal is a father, a community activist, a thought leader, and a global citizen guided by his spirituality and sense of righteousness.

Born in the spring of 1989, Jesse spent his early years in the hills of Maroon Town and the District of Orange in St. James before moving in the late 90’s with his mother and brother to join his father in Kingston. As fate would have it, Royal developed a special relationship with Daniel ‘Bambaata’ Marley (son of Ziggy Marley) at school. His friendship with Marley proved to be fuel to the fire as they shared a deep passion for music and football (soccer). As these cubs became lions, so grew their devotion to music. With the help of longtime friend Curt ‘Qban’ White, they began composing and creating their own music. Together they proceeded to fulfill what they knew was a predestined musical journey, designed to inspire, engage, and unite people beyond all geographic borders.

Over the course of his career, Jesse Royal has been blessed to collaborate and create with some of the world’s most respected artists, musicians, and producers including Sean Paul, Vybz Kartel, Protoje, Chronixx, Noise Cans, Steve Aoki, Damian Marley, Major Lazer, and many others.

In 2017, Jesse Royal began his relationship with the internationally known label Easy Star Records, releasing his debut album, Lily Of Da Valley, which he co-executive produced along with Lamar “Riff Raff” Brown. The record featured legendary musicians Sly Dunbar, Robbie Shakespeare, Donald Dennis, Earl ‘Chinna’ Smith, and Monty Savory. The album was received with critical acclaim and topped the Billboard Reggae Album charts.

In 2019, Jesse Royal released “LionOrder” featuring Protoje (produced by GRAMMY-nominated producer Sean Alaric), followed by the single “Natty Pablo” in 2020, as part of the roll-out for his highly anticipated full-length sophomore album, Royal, slated for June 2021.
