NO. 1 TAKEOUT DISH – PIZZA

According to New York Post, pizza is one of the most popular takeaway dishes searched in the world.

National Pizza Week: growth pizza restaurants comes to abrupt halt

BoldData crunches the numbers

Next week is National Pizza Week. An entire week in honor of one of America’s all-time favorite foods. Time to crunch the numbers! The latest statistics from data specialist BoldData show that the amount of pizza restaurants in America has increased with a whopping 39.2% over the last five years. However, the growth abruptly stopped in 2020.

Pizza party over?

Craving pizza? There are currently 90.817 pizza restaurants in The United States. An increase of 39.2% compared to 2016, in this year there were 65.213 pizza places. Especially 2017 was a good year for pizza: with an increase of 11.137 pizza joints (17.1 %). In the beginning of 2021 the USA should’ve reached the magical number of 100.000 pizza restaurants, but then COVID-19 happened… The growth of pizza restaurants came to an abrupt halt in 2020, with an increase of only 581 restaurants.

California is the pizza place to be

When it comes to pizza, California is the place to be. The state has 8.271 pizza places, of which 2.044 are based in the Los Angeles area. New York comes in second with 7.190 restaurants, a growth of 48% compared to 2016. The biggest growth took place in Hawaii: a whopping 69%. Pizza lovers best stay away from Wyoming, the state has the lowest number of pizza joints (133).

USA takes biggest slice worldwide

Americans love their pizza. It’s even considered America’s favorite food. Therefore it’s no surprise that the USA is home to the largest number of pizza restaurants worldwide. Italy –  where the modern pizza was originally invented – comes in second with 42.288 pizzeria’s. Brazil completes the top 3 with 32.283 pizza joints. But the USA has nothing to fear from the rest of the world. With 90.817 pizza restaurant the USA still has more pizzeria’s then the top 4 combined (88.100). Australia is number 8 on the list: with 5.598 pizza restaurants they have one of the highest number of pizza places per capita.

Acobie the Model Headshot

The Model Acobie

360 Magazine sat down with up and coming model Acobie Inniss, to find out how he got started with modeling and where he plans to go next. The young, Barbadian model has a unique look that is sure to gain attention as his modeling career takes off.

Included below is also information about Rhaj Paul a designer that works with Acobie and Graham Edwards, Acobie’s agent. Working together, the team has created an amazing shoot featuring Acobie as the star.

When did you decide to begin modeling and how did you get started?

I was approached by Graham from GADAL Model Management at the end of 2018 and I didn’t take it too seriously at the time. A year later we had another chance encounter meeting and this time I decided it couldn’t hurt to give it a try; so I officially started at the end of 2019.

What was it like growing up in Barbados?

Growing up in Barbados is great! I loved that a nice beach would always be right around the corner; I was definitely a beach person, like in the summer I would be at the beach every day. I loved riding around on my bike and playing football and many other sports with my friends.

Do you think you will eventually become a full-time model? Why or why not?

Yes! I’m hoping to become a full-time model; but I know life can have twists and turns so I remain open to it happening or not happening, where ever life takes me I guess.

Where do you aspire to be five years from now and do you have plans to get there?

Five years from now I’d like to have my own home and to be traveling the world with my girlfriend- who I hope will be my wife at that time. I also want to be in a financial position to invest in Real Estate and be able to help the needy. Things don’t always go according to plan, but it’s still good to have one in place. I plan to keep an open mind and open heart to whatever opportunities come my way.

Are your family and friends supportive of your modeling career?

My mother and my close friends are supportive.

What has been your favorite part of modeling so far?

So far, my favorite part is meeting new people; trying new experiences and exercising my confidence and communication skills.

Some of your hobbies include stunt-riding and photography, do you hope to progress these talents further in the future?

Yes, I hope to progress further in these hobbies. For example the stunt riding; I’d love to build a community (of riders) where we ride for a cause…hopefully raise some funds as well and donate to different charities while having fun riding (smile).

What makes you unique from other up and coming models?

Well, I think everyone is unique in their own way; for me, I’m not sure, some people say it’s my hair or maybe my eyes. Lol.

Do you have any collaborations coming up that you’re excited about?

I’m definitely hoping to have some collaborations! I know my agency is working on stuff…don’t want to let the cat out of the bag. I like to only speak about things after they are done.

Are there any other models you would like to work with in the future?

I’d like to work with everyone! I’m new to this industry so I want to learn as much as I can from everyone.

About Acobie Inniss

Acobie is a newly discovered Barbadian model who describes himself as a “regular guy” who loves stunt riding and going for long rides on his Haro mountain bike. He says, he also likes researching things on the internet and learning new things.

One look at Acobie however, and you’ll see he’s anything but “regular”; the 6’ 2”, 21-year-old is an eclectic ethnic blend of Black; White and Indian- with a negro structured face and nose; light skin; freckles; pink lips; hair that can change color ranging from dark brown to blonde; perfect jaw-lines and hazel eyes with an intense gaze, that causes you too, to also gaze intensely. Anything but “regular!”

Acobie is not just another pretty face though, he is also talented practically with his hands. He’s a certified electrician and PV (photovoltaic) installer and sees the latter as “the future” because it’s “environmentally sustainable; good for the planet and clean energy”.

He also has a passion for photography (which he’s teaching himself); because he likes how you can “capture a moment forever.” All the knowledge he has on various topics such as his stunt-riding and photography he eagerly shares on his YouTube channel another one of his hobbies.

He loves the artist Saint Jhn (who’s originally from Guyana) and appreciates his music; success and Caribbean roots. Acobie is also into Kendrick Lamar and Arianna Grande. His favorite fashion brands he’d love to work with are Polo Ralph Lauren; Gucci and Prada.

Father’s Day Recipes

This year to celebrate Father’s Day, Martell & culinary collective Ghetto Gastro have teamed up to create delicious recipes to pair with your favorite Martell drink.

Inspired by experiences with their own fathers and families, Ghetto Gastro set out to craft bold recipes easy enough for anyone to whip up ahead of their Father’s Day meal. Chef P.’s “Green is for the Money, Gold is for the Honey” Curry Fried Rice dish was inspired by his own father’s Barbados heritage and reflects how Bajans traditionally prepare the dish. The second dish, the Blistered Prawns, was inspired by Chef Malcom’s trip to Singapore.

Both dishes pair well with Martell Blue Swift, served on its own or over ice, to create a bold statement, exactly how Martell likes it. Here are two unique and international recipes that will be sure to impress all guests at your Father’s Day dinner.

“Green is for the Money, Gold is for the Honey” Curry Fried Rice

Curry, Martell Cognac, 360 Magazine, Vaughn Lowery

Ingredients:

  • 15g ground black pepper
  • 5g ground white pepper
  • 5g ground cardamom
  • 5g all spice
  • 45g madras curry powder
  • 30g canola or other neutral oil
  • 90g coconut oil
  • 2 shallots, peeled and diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, peeled and minced
  • 30g soy sauce, plus additional as needed
  • 15g honey
  • chiles, seeded and minced
  • 3 cups cooked white rice, cooled
  • 2 limes, 1 juiced and 1 quartered
  • 1/2 cup crushed pistachios
  • 28g dried mushrooms
  • 400ml hot water
  • 50ml soy sauce
  • 45g agave
  • 10g red miso
  • 10g ginger, grated
  • 20g cornstarch
  • 20g water

Vegan Oyster Sauce

  1. Put the dried mushrooms into a container and put the hot water over the mushrooms, making sure they are fully submerged.
  2. Let the mushrooms soak for at least an hour.
  3. Add the mushrooms and the soaking liquid to a blender and blend until smooth.
  4.  In a medium sauce pan add the mushroom mixture, soy sauce, agave, miso and ginger and bring to a simmer.
  5. Reduce heat to low and cook until the mixture begins to thicken (about 8 mins).
  6. Mix together cornstarch and water and add to the pot cooking down for 5 minutes or until thickened.
  7. Allow to cool and refrigerate for up to 2 months.

Rice

  1. Place a large skillet over medium heat the cardamom, all spice, black pepper and white pepper. Toast, shaking the pan occasionally, until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add the curry powder, shake again and toast for 1 minute more. Scrape the toasted-curry-powder blend into a small bowl using a rubber spatula, and set aside.
  2. Add the oils to a skillet and when they melt, add the shallots and garlic. Lower the heat, and cook, stirring frequently, until the shallots are soft and translucent, 5 to 8 minutes.
  3. Raise the heat to medium. Stir in the toasted-curry-powder blend, followed by 2 tablespoons soy sauce, 1 1/2 tablespoons vegan oyster sauce and the honey. Cook, stirring occasionally, until thickened, 3 to 5 minutes. Add chilies to taste, then adjust the levels of soy sauce and oyster sauce if you want to go a little saltier or sweeter. Scrape the curry paste into the small bowl.
  4.  To finish the dish, add the 2 tablespoons of Miyokos to the skillet, and heat over medium-high. When the butter melts and foams, flake the rice into it, and allow it to crisp slightly, then stir a few heaping tablespoons of curry paste into the rice to season to taste. Finish with chopped pistachios and lime juice to taste.
  5. Serve with lime wedges alongside blistered prawns or on its own.
  6. Transfer remaining curry paste to a lidded container. Let cool, cover and refrigerate up to 1 month.

Blistered Prawns with Lime, Garlic, and Cilantro Butter Sauce

Prawns, Martell Cognac, 360 Magazine, Vaughn Lowery

Ingredients:

  • 12 Wild caught Prawns or Shrimp with shells on
  • 500 grams Olive oil
  • 140-150 grams garlic200ml lime juice
  • 2 additional limes plus, save zest
  • 40ml orange juice
  • 1/2  tsp crushed red pepper flakes
  • 4 sprigs lemon thyme
  • 25- 50 grams butter (preferably 83% butterfat)
  • Himalayan or sea salt of your choice to taste

Garlic Sauce

  1. Preheat your oven to 170°C
  2. In a cast iron skillet or other ovenproof pan, add the olive oil and crush the garlic with a garlic press. Make sure that the olive oil is completely submerged.
  3. Cook in the oven until garlic is golden brown, about 45 minutes.
  4. Remove from the oven, carefully stir in both citrus juice and return to the oven to cook and slightly thicken, about 15 minutes.
  5. Carefully remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Stir in the lemon thyme and red pepper flakes, taste and season with salt. The sauce will not emulsify; it will be very oily, and should be stirred before use.

The Prawns

  1. Start by rinsing them in cold water and discarding any that are discolored or slimy.
  2. If you choose to remove heads, hold the body of the prawn with one hand and firmly twist off the head using your other hand, lightly dry them and place in a bowl.
  3. Stir the oil and scoop out about 2-3 tablespoons of the garlic from oil and toss with the shrimp. Marinate the shrimps for a few hours or overnight.
  4. Mix about equal parts sea salt and lime zest together, reserve in the fridge. Make this right before you cook your shrimp.
  5. Remove the prawns from the fridge, squeeze the juice from two limes over, and stir to combine.
  6. Heat a skillet over medium to high heat, add the shrimps and sauté turning constantly for about 2 minutes, then add some more of the mixed up garlic sauce to the pan and continue cooking to blister fry the shrimps until aromatic, bright red, and caramelized.
  7. Add the butter and lemon thyme, place a lid on top and shake vigorously to finish cooking the shrimps, you should hear the lemon thyme start to crackle and pop from hitting the hot oil in the pan. Season with lime salt well and transfer to a bowl.
