SATW – Bill Muster Photo Awards

The Society of American Travel Writers (SATW) has awarded Blaine Harrington III top honors as the 2022 Photographer of the Year in the prestigious SATW Bill Muster Photo Awards. Eric Lindberg and Eric Stoen also scored high marks as the Silver and Bronze Photographers of the Year respectively.

Named for the late Bill Muster, a renowned photographer, and SATW member, the SATW Muster Photo Awards recognize excellence in travel photography featuring nature, people, and cultures. These awards are presented each year at SATW’s annual convention which took place in Milwaukee this year. The images are taken between July 1, 2019, and June 30, 2021, and entrants must be SATW members.

“This award has become one of the most highly sought after in travel journalism,” said SATW President Larry Bleiberg, ”which is a testament to the extraordinarily high standard of excellence that the contestants, year in and year out, bring to their work. SATW’s Board of Directors values the Muster family’s passion for capturing the world’s monuments and people, its natural landscapes and culture, through the lens of a camera, and for their support of SATW’s photographers.”

After serving in WWII, Bill Muster graduated from the University of Illinois and devoted his life to capturing images for newspapers and media companies. He was a venerated member of the SATW community. Since 1981, SATW has presented the Muster Awards and cash prizes for travel photography in a range of categories awarded at the annual convention. After Bill Muster died in 1989, his children Nori and Bill Jr., have generously continued their father’s legacy with an annual gift that funds the cash prizes awarded for individual photos as well as portfolios.

Three Unlikely Peaky Blinders Fan Theories

The anticipation is continuing to grow ahead of the sixth Peaky Blinders series, as the stars of the hit BBC drama have been caught filming the show throughout the summer

However, conversations surrounding fan theories about what happens next have been rife since the dramatic ending of the previous season. Some are more unlikely than others, though. But, which scenarios look more unlikely than most when it comes to season six of Peaky Blinders?

Aberama Gold Is Alive

This is a theory that has been doing the rounds since the shocking ending to the fifth series. In that final episode, Aberama Gold was viciously killed by the Billy Boys, as Tommy Shelby’s plot to assassinate Oswald Mosley quickly fell apart.

Of course, the Blinders have a history of bringing characters back from the dead, with Arthur making his shocking return to bring down Luca Changretta. However, it is massively unlikely that Gold survived the attack on that night at the rally, despite many fans hoping for the happy ending that Aunt Polly deserves. Other fan theories have rumoured that John Shelby and Inspector Campbell could also return, but they also seem far-fetched.

Michael Gray Informed Mosley

The most pressing question that fans will have ahead of the final season is who exactly betrayed Tommy and gave Oswald the heads up that they were planning an attack. One name that has constantly been mentioned in that conversation is Michael Gray. Michael and Tommy’s relationship hit an all-time low in the fifth series, as Tommy was warned by the IRA that he wasn’t trustworthy. Michael constantly tried to seize control of the Blinders from Tommy, which led to a dramatic showdown between the two in the final episode.

Certainly, Michael wants to go higher in the gang and take control in the place of Tommy, but it looks almost impossible that he had anything to do with the plan going wrong. Most importantly, he wasn’t even in the loop when it came to the plan, which means that he wouldn’t have had the knowledge to tell Oswald what was going to happen. However, whether Tommy believes him is an entirely different question altogether.

Tommy Commits Suicide

The final scene before the credits was Tommy running into a field with the gun to his head screaming. Many fans feared that this would be the end of Tommy, as his mental health was deteriorating throughout the series, as he would constantly see Grace. However, it is massively unlikely that Tommy would have pulled the trigger, mainly through pride, as that would indicate that Oswald has come out on top in the battle between the two.

More likely, we will see Tommy come back stronger and more determined than ever to find out who the mole was. Arthur and Tommy will likely be at the front trying to find out who it was, while also taking on Oswald and the Billy Boys, and also keeping face for his political career.

Solo: Survivors of Chaos via Titan Comics for use by 360 Magazine

Review of Solo: The Survivors of Chaos Vol. 1-2

By: Skyler Johnson

For an artist who’s biggest claims to fame are Tom & Jerry and Disney comic books, it’s hard to imagine that he’s also credited for something like Titan ComicsSolo: The Survivors of Chaos. While it has an art and writing style you’d likely see with either Tom & Jerry or Mickey Mouse, it’s not. Solo instead is essentially if Disney were to show the underlying evils that exist in their movies. It’s if at the end of Tarzan, we would see Clayton being hanged. Blood is spilt and body parts are shown.

The Series Overall Thus Far

The graphic novel follows Solo, a competent fighter who’s just trying to survive in a barren post-apocalyptic wasteland. You can tell Martin put a lot of time and effort into worldbuilding, evident from the lore documents provided at the end of the second book. You want to see more of the universe, which will hopefully occur in later volumes.

The character of Solo is an interesting mix of Guts from Berserk with a touch of Joseph Joestar from Jojo’s Bizarre Adventures. He’s stoic but polite, and seems to have a good heart, at least from what we’ve seen so far. The characterization isn’t the draw of the comic, but the characters are engaging enough to be rooted for.

The most impressive aspect of the series so far is the action. Solo: The Survivors of Chaos has some of the best action I’ve ever seen in comics. You can clearly see the motions of each character and it makes for an engaging read. It makes sense given the writer’s background working with Tom & Jerry

However, for a comic that’s so action-focused, the dialogue is still solid. You can tell it’s not Martin’s main strength as there are scenes that feel as though they should’ve been more dialogue heavy but instead were filled with narration, but the narration nevertheless works in conveying what it needs to convey. There are a few places where the reader has to make a few assumptions but anyone who’s read any comic or watched any movie ever should be able to make the conclusions they need to.

The issues I have with it are minor, but need to be discussed. While these types of characters haven’t appeared in the comic thus far, there are a few species that I already know I won’t like if forced to see them. The “trolls” and the “femme fatales” seem like stereotypical depictions of people with intellectual disabilities and sex workers. While I don’t know what they’re going to be, it’s something I’ll look out for as the series continues.

What to Expect in Volume 2

The first volume introduced us to the characters and the story whereas volume 2 was more of a deep dive into the characters. It’s not as action packed as the first volume but still contains good action sequences nonetheless. You also get a glimpse into a possible conflict for our protagonists.

Conclusion

The series thus far has shown itself to be intriguing and I’ll be interested to see where Martin takes it. We’re only two issues in but if Martin develops on the themes he’s hinted at, it’ll be an excellent ride. So far the series gets an 8.8/10.

Volume 1 is out now and Volume 2 will be released on June 22nd. For more updates from Titan Comics, you can follow them on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter

Walt Disney Records releases the digital soundtrack from Season 2 of “The Mandalorian,” Lucasfilm’s multiple Emmy®-winning live-action series, streaming exclusively on Disney+. The Mandalorian Season 2, Volume 1 (Chapters 9-12) digital album features score by Oscar®, Grammy® and Emmy® winning composer Ludwig Göransson (Tenet, Black Panther) and is available HERE. The release will be followed by The Mandalorian Season 2, Volume 2 (Chapters 13-16) digital album available on December 18.

Earlier this year, Göransson won his first Emmy for “The Mandalorian” “Chapter 8: Redemption” in the Outstanding Music Composition For A Series (Original Dramatic Score) category.  For the first season of “The Mandalorian,” Göransson released eight full-length albums, one album per episode, with recurring themes throughout the season. This season, he will release the soundtrack in two volumes containing new musical themes, sounds and ideas.

The score and character themes feature instruments played by Göransson including the bass recorder, woodwinds, drums, guitars, piano and percussion. The organic elements from those instruments are then infused with tech sounds and a cinematic orchestra.

About Ludwig Göransson

In a career spanning only 12 years, Ludwig Göransson has amassed an impressive resume in both the recording and motion picture industries, earning an Academy Award, an Emmy Award, multiple Grammy Awards and countless other nominations. After working as an assistant to composer Theodore Shapiro, Göransson got his first big break writing music for the NBC television series, Community. This led to a friendship and collaboration with Donald Glover, who performs under the stage name Childish Gambino, on several studio albums including Because the Internet and Awaken, My Love. Göransson has been nominated for six Grammys with Childish Gambino, and won two in 2019 for the Billboard Hot 100 Number One hit song “This Is America,” which became a cultural phenomenon and garnered world-wide acclaim.

While pursuing his masters degree in film scoring at USC, Göransson met his other longtime collaborator, director Ryan Coogler, when he scored his short film, Locks. Over the next nine years, Göransson would score all three of Coogler’s feature films. Much like iconic filmmaking duos Hitchcock and Herrmann or Spielberg and Williams, Coogler’s diverse filmography has allowed Göransson to show his range as a composer, writing understated melodies for Fruitvale Station, hyping up audiences for Creed, and infusing African percussion into his themes for Black Panther.

Göransson has accumulated success in a variety of other films including the box office smash Venom andPixar’s Inner Workings. In 2019, Göransson earned multiple awards and nominations for his score for Black Panther including a Golden Globe nomination, a Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack, and an Academy Award for Best Original Score. He won two Grammy Awards for his song “This is America”, which he co-wrote and co-produced with frequent collaborator Childish Gambino.

Most recently, Göransson completed the score for Season 2 of The Mandalorian, LucasFilm’s first Star Wars live-action series helmed by director Jon Favreau, streaming exclusively on Disney+.  In September 2020, he won his first Emmy Award for his work on the series. Göransson also composed the music for Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, which premiered late summer 2020. In addition, he co-wrote and co-produced the songs for DreamWorks’ Trolls World Tour with Justin Timberlake, which exceeded expectations with its history-making digital release in April 2020, racking up nearly $100 million in sales in just three weeks.

Jarren frame, 360 MAGAZINE

Jarren Frame

New York artist, Jarren Frame, has made a mark in the art scene and is currently on display at world-renowned hotels and celeb hotspots such as Socialista, Sixty Hotel Soho, Mamo, Casa Malca, The Bowery Hotel, and Faena, alongside Damien Hirst’s iconic Golden Mammoth.

Born in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1990, Frame was inspired to step into the art world as a child from his grandfather, Philip Frame — a Sunday painter and founder of Frame Textiles Group (one time the largest blanket manufacturing business in the world). Philip would teach his grandson to paint flowers on weekends, igniting a spark leading him to pursue art full-time.

In October 2017, Frame displayed a series of James Bond-inspired works known as “The Playboy Paintings” during his first solo exhibition alongside photographer Peter Cary Peterson at The SIXTY SoHo Hotel. Following its success, he collaborated with Puerto Rican artist Jorge Zeno on “Zeno Gravity” on another Bond-inspired piece.

A rotating selection of artworks from his first collection titled “Bond, James Bond,” debuted in December 2017 at 77 Greene Street in New York. The series of 33 acrylic-on-wood pieces featured the recontextualization of vintage James Bond imagery over modern-day landscapes. The idea was born during a trip to Sardinia, where the 1977 classic film The Spy Who Loved Me was shot. ‘‘’Bond, James Bond’ was created on such an impulse. What I sought to do with those paintings was neutralize some of the shame around sex and masculinity. That’s really what those paintings are about: Fun, sex and champagne.”All 33 pieces sold out within a year, attracting a number of bold-face name buyers such as Chris Burch, Steve Wynn, Barron Hilton, former United States Secretary of Commerce Peter George Peterson, Alex Pall of The Chainsmokers, and hoteliers including Jason Pomeranc andJason Strauss.

Frame’s current collection, “Colors,” is another series of 33 paintings – this time acrylic-on-canvas and was inspired by the meaning we assign to colors and is meant to confront the viewer with the enormous diversity of choice we have. “‘Colors’ are a way of bottling up excitement and happiness that provide the power to inspire and uplift in addition to capturing and championing the spirit of individuality.”  The series premiered, for a limited-time at Socialista and Surf Lodge in July 2019.
