Aston Martin – No Time To Die Edition

The Little Car Company, Aston Martin and EON Productions today announced the launch of a No Time To Die special edition Aston Martin DB5 Junior. Inspired by the 25th James Bond film, No Time To Die, released in cinemas from September 30, the film sees the return of the iconic Aston Martin DB5. This unique collaboration with The Little Car Company has created a gadget-laden collector’s item. The two-thirds scale version of the original comes with a fully electric powertrain.

Specifications

The No Time To Die edition will pay homage to the rich shared history of the brands, with Silver Birch paintwork, Smiths instruments, individually numbered chassis plates, and complete with Aston Martin badging. In true Bond style, this special edition boasts even greater power and range over the standard DB5 Vantage Junior, giving it a higher level of performance.

After extensive development and months of collaboration between the three companies, the car is a truly authentic homage to both the Aston Martin and 007 brands. The original Aston Martin DB5 was 3D-scanned for reference, allowing a completely accurate reproduction. Whilst some elements of the car have been replicated, such as the Smiths instruments on the dashboard, some elements have been reimagined for the modern era. The fuel gauge has been converted into a battery meter, while the oil temperature now monitors the motor temperature.

The No Time To Die Special Edition has been designed as a convertible, and not the fixed head coupe drove by 007. This is to offer seating for an adult and child side by side, allowing all generations of Bond fans to share the love of driving. With multiple driving modes and a range of up to 80 miles, aspiring secret agents should be able to escape any situation. There are also some secret ‘Easter Eggs’ hidden within the car for the lucky owners to find.

A quick-release steering wheel allows for a speedy entry and exit for the driver, and when they need to stop in a hurry, they can rely on both regenerative braking and high-performance Brembo disc brakes. Bilstein dampers and coil-over springs make sure the suspension can handle the performance squeezed into this two-thirds scale marvel.

No Time To Die Specification

James Bond’s Aston Martin DB5 has become a much-loved character in its own right. No Bond car would be complete without Q-style gadgets, and the Aston Martin DB5 Junior No Time To Die edition is no exception. 360 Magazine is pleased to see this big collaboration in a huge style.

Chris Corbould OBE, the Oscar®-winning special effects supervisor, has worked on fifteen James Bond films since the early 1980s, and he consulted with The Little Car Company on the development of the car’s complex gadgets in miniature;

“When I saw the DB5 Junior in the flesh, I was amazed at how identical it is to the full-sized car – it’s stunning. It’s an amazing feat of engineering.”

All the gadgets are operated by individual controls in a hidden switch panel in the passenger door. At the push of a button, the headlights drop to reveal a twin set of simulated Gatling guns, complete with imitation barrel blasts and flashes.

As witnessed in the No Time To Die trailer, the skid mode comes in handy when caught in a tight spot. The No Time To Die special edition has a unique digital number plate activated through the hidden control panel.

Just like the original car, this special edition can produce a smokescreen to aid a successful getaway. Ejected through the rear ‘exhaust’, the smoke has a supply tank that supplies an hour of safe smoke before it needs topping up.

Although the DB5 Junior is not road legal, as an authentic Aston Martin model, every owner will receive automatic membership of the respected Aston Martin Owners Club. In addition, all clients will receive complimentary membership of The Little Car Club, allowing them to take part in exclusive events where they, their children, and their grandchildren can drive their DB5 Juniors on the most prestigious racetracks.

Ben Hedley, CEO of The Little Car Company, said: “Regarded as the most famous car in cinematic history, the gadget-laden Aston Martin DB5 awed audiences around the world over fifty years ago. Now, that story continues. As part of an exclusive partnership with EON Productions and Aston Martin, we have had the opportunity to create something truly unique for James Bond fans and collectors. We can’t wait to see the adventures these cars take with their owners.”

Bond fans worldwide are able to secure one of the limited-edition No Time To Die editions of the DB5 Junior by visiting 007junior.com. With only 125 cars being built, build slots are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, by placing a fully refundable deposit.

Pricing for the car has been set at £90,000, plus local taxes. Existing Aston Martin DB5 Junior clients will be given the first refusal on upgrading to a No Time To Die edition, and remaining build slots will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

The all-new Aston Martin Valkyrie hypercar has been declared the Michelin Supercar Paddock Showstopper of the Festival at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The Michelin Supercar Paddock Showstopper award was presented to Darren Turner, Marek Reichman and the Aston Martin Valkyrie team by judges Jodie Kidd, legendary designer Frank Stephenson, Mr JWW and DriveTribe’s Mike Fernie.

Chosen for its pursuit of function over form, the judges were impressed with the hypercar’s impeccable road-going credentials, as well as its striking aerodynamic design and mind-blowing performance.

The Aston Martin Valkyrie made its global dynamic debut at Goodwood Festival of Speed and is the first hypercar the legendary British marque has ever produced. The name of the car intentionally evokes images of an otherworldly power, and its performance lives up to that billing. Featuring a huge 6.5-litre V12 hybrid engine capable of delivering 1160 horsepower in a car which is exceptionally lightweight—its 100% carbon fibre chassis and body weigh just over 1,000 kilograms—helping it achieve better than a 1:1 power to weight ratio.

The hypercar takes design and engineering cues from Formula One racing, thanks to collaborative input from Red Bull Racing’s legendary design guru Adrian Newey. The aerodynamics around the car were designed to give F1 standard of performance, downforce and handling. Capable of reaching 0-62mph in a blistering 2.5 seconds, the Valkyrie has an astonishing top speed in excess of 250mph.

The Glickenhaus 004S and the Rimac Nevera were runners up of the Michelin Supercar Paddock Showstopper Award.

Owner Dr. Cecilia Muldoon drove the Glickenhaus SCG 0004S for the first time on the Goodwood Hillclimb and came straight to the Paddock stage to showcase the unique and wonderful supercar. With a supercharged V8 delivering 650bhp, the three-seater with a central driving position and includes some amenities rare in the world of track cars, including air conditioning, Bluetooth speakers and a backup camera.

On the Michelin Supercar Paddock Stage James Glickenhaus described the car as “a road car born on the track.” Judges were extremely impressed with the car’s bespoke design, both inside and out, coupled with the vehicle’s performance and rarity. They felt it was unique and worthy of being a Showstopper finalist.

The judges were also blown away by the outstanding all-electric Rimac Nevera. The Croatian hypercar was a runner up for the award. It produces a staggering 1914 horsepower and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in 1.97 seconds, and from 0 to 300 kph in 9.3 seconds. Each of the Nevera’s wheels are driven by their own electric motor, and each wheel’s torque is automatically adjusted for improved handling.

Other automotive highlights from the Michelin live stage include, Lotus (Emira), Bugatti (Pur Sport), Ferrari (SF90), Porsche (GT3), Zenvo (TSR-S), Callum Design (Vanquish 25), Ford (Mach-E 1400), Corvette (C8), Mini (ePacesetter), BMW (2 Series), Mission H24 (LMPH2G), Koenigsegg (Regera), Everrati (964), The Little Car Company (Baby Bugatti).

Working alongside General Motors for the debut of the all-new RHD Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, Michelin had five-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner and Corvette Ambassador, Oliver Gavin, on the live stage to reveal the model ahead of its first-ever run up the hill. The Supercar Paddock also saw a number of guest appearances talking to presenters Vicki Butler-Henderson and Tim Harvey, including Jenson Button, Oli Webb, Andy Wallace, James Pickford, Colin Turkington, Paul O’Neill, Darren Turner, Caffeine & Machine’s Phil McGovern and Dan Macken, Charlie Cooper, Richard Westbrook, Paul Swift, Mazin and Nabil Naamo, Zach and Raziz.

ASTON MARTIN COGNIZANT FORMULA ONE™ TEAM LAUNCHES THE AMR21

Team launches first Aston Martin Grand Prix car in 61 years, in high-tech virtual live event watched by fans all over the world

The Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One™ Team has today revealed to the world its 2021 Formula One World Championship competitor, the new AMR21, in a virtual live event.

One of the most anticipated Formula One car launches in recent years took place in The Vault, an immersive virtual experience that played host to the historic moment when Aston Martin unveiled its first Grand Prix car since the DBR5 which was raced by Roy Salvadori and Maurice Trintignant in the 1960 British Grand Prix.

The AMR21 was revealed in a striking green livery in recognition of the brand’s traditional racing colours, carrying prominent branding from title partner, Cognizant, the IT giant helping lead the team’s digital transformation journey towards future success.

The recent influx of new partners ensured that the AMR21 was presented with logos from a host of global brands alongside Cognizant, including Peroni, Crypto.com, SentinelOne, EPOS, NetApp, Girard-Perregaux and Replay. The long-standing support of BWT continues with the addition of a delicate magenta stripe down each side of the chassis. Ravenol, JCB, Bombardier and Pirelli all continue their partnerships into the new era.

Aston Martin Lagonda’s Executive Chairman, Lawrence Stroll, opened today’s event and welcomed fans, media, colleagues and partners who were enjoying the show virtually from all around the world. He was joined by Tobias Moers, CEO of Aston Martin Lagonda; Otmar Szafnauer, CEO and Team Principal of Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One™ Team; and, by video link, Brian Humphries, CEO of Cognizant, who all spoke of the great significance of seeing the Aston Martin name back on the Formula One grid.

The new driver pairing of Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll were also prominent in the presentation, as well as Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One™ Team Technical Director, Andrew Green.

Lawrence Stroll, Executive Chairman, Aston Martin, commented:

“I have dreamed about this day for a very long time. I have always been a car guy, since I was a child. I have always loved racing, too. My first dream was to own a Formula One team. My second dream was to acquire a significant shareholding in Aston Martin Lagonda. Today is about the merging of those two dreams. So, as I say, today is all about dreams, and it shows that dreams really can come true, in the shape of our new AMR21.”

Sebastian Vettel, Driver, Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One™ Team, said:

“Even though I have raced for four Formula One teams and for many years, starting a new season with a new team still gives me a sense of excitement.

“As a driver, I have always kept my eye on the competition and this team has consistently impressed me with what they have been able to do without the biggest of budgets. So, when Lawrence [Stroll] and Otmar [Szafnauer] approached me last year, and explained what their ambitions were, I was immediately very motivated to join the team.”

Lance Stroll, Driver, Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One™ Team, added:

“This is such an exciting time of the year. The car launch is when everything starts to feel real again, especially this year with our new identity as Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One™ Team. The new name is exciting for everyone and there is a massive buzz around the factory.”

Now that the new Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One™ Team car has been revealed to the world, tomorrow marks the exciting and much anticipated track debut of the AMR21, before it makes its journey to Bahrain for testing next week (March 12th-14th) ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix on March 28th.

SWIZZ BEATZ SWITCHES TO ASCAP

ASCAP, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, the world leader in performing rights and advocacy for music creators, today announced that internationally acclaimed Grammy-winning songwriter-producer and global entrepreneur Kasseem Dean, aka Swizz Beatz, has moved to ASCAP. Known for his work on songs including DMX’s “Ruff Ryders Anthem,” T.I.’s “Bring Em Out,” Lil Wayne’s “Uproar,” Mýa’s “The Best of Me” and more, the megaproducer is also the co-creator of Verzuz, the livestreaming music battle series and cultural phenomenon he started in early 2020 with Timbaland.

“Swizz Beatz’s talent as a songwriter-producer is second to none. The music he has created over the last two decades reached the heights of the hip-hop, R&B and rap charts and continues to endure,” said John Titta, ASCAP Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer. “From his classic late-90s records with Ruff Ryders to Verzuz, Swizz Beatz’s talent has made him one of the greatest producers and music creatives around today. We are so happy to welcome him to the ASCAP family.”

“I’m excited to be back with the ASCAP family,” said Swizz. “They have always fought hard for songwriters and in times like these, they are an incredibly important source of support for music creators. I’m looking forward to working with the ASCAP team to give back to the culture and the creative community.”

Swizz Beatz has been in the music and business world since he was 16. He began deejaying and working at his uncle’s company, Ruff Ryder Records, while still in high school. Within a short time, Swizz produced the company’s first hit, by DMX. More success followed–as a producer and artist. At 23, Swizz founded his own record label, Full Surface Records, with Clive Davis and earned a Grammy Award at the age of 33. As a producer, Swizz has worked with a diverse range of artists and some of the biggest names in the world including Jay-Z, Madonna, Kanye West, Lil Wayne and Metallica, contributing to the sale of over 350 million records sold worldwide.

A recent graduate of Harvard Business School’s Owner/President Management Program, Swizz’s talents and success extend well beyond music. He is an innovative fashion designer, collaborating with Bally, Reebok, Christian Louboutin, Aston Martin, Lotus, and Audemar Piguet. In 2015, he joined global spirit giant Bacardi as their Global Chief Creative for Culture, overseeing more than 300 brands within the company’s portfolio. An art collector since his 20s, he launched The Dean Collection in 2014, a discovery zone for art enthusiasts who appreciate art not just from the greats but also from aspiring and new artists alike.

Swizz is actively involved in many charities, with a particular focus on children: he works closely with his wife Alicia Keys’s organization Keep A Child Alive to fight AIDS and poverty in Africa; he adopted the Bronx Charter School for the Arts; is the Global Ambassador for New York City’s HHC (Health and Hospitals Corporation); serves on the board of Children’s Rights, which provides legal services to foster children to protect their rights; and currently sits on the Board of Trustees of the Brooklyn Museum.

Tesla Hits $460Bn in Market Cap

Tesla Hit Over $460Bn in Market Cap, Seven Times More than Ferrari, Porsche and Aston Martin Combined

The coronavirus outbreak has affected many industries, but the automotive industry is among the hardest hit. After carmakers stopped production and dealerships closed showrooms amid COVID-19 lockdown, global car sales slumped worse than ever before. However, the luxury car market was generally less affected by the financial downturn caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

According to data presented by StockApps.com, the market capitalization of the world’s most valuable car company, Tesla, hit over $460bn this week, almost seven times more than Ferrari, Porsche and Aston Martin combined.

Tesla Market Cap Soared 513% Since January

The 2020 has been a fantastic year for Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA), despite the COVID-19 effects on the global automotive industry. The company’s stock price surged by nearly 200% in the last three months and they’re up about 500% on the year, despite a 4.9% revenue drop in the second quarter of 2020.

One of the reasons for such a premium valuation is Tesla’s ability to convince investors that it’s much more than just an automaker, and plans to make its vehicles capable of deploying into an autonomous “robotaxi” ride-sharing service prove that.

In December 2019, the market cap of the world’s most valuable car company stood at $75.7bn, revealed the YCharts data. By the end of the first quarter of 2020, this figure rose to $96.9bn, despite the COVID-19 crisis. Statistics show Tesla market cap surged by 107% in the next three months reaching $200.8bn value at the end of June. At the beginning of this week, it jumped over $460bn, which is four times the IBM market cap. Since the beginning of the year, the Tesla market cap has soared by 513%.

Ferrari Market Capitalization Rose by $7.1bn in 2020

The disruptions of the COVID-19 pandemic caused a substantial hit to the Italian supercar maker Ferrari (NYSE: RACE), who was forced to close its factories for seven weeks. The Q2 2020 financial report revealed a 42% plunge in revenue year-on-year and halved shipment of vehicles due to both production and delivery suspensions.

The company also narrowed the range of its full-year profit guidance with the estimated revenue of more than €3.4bn, compared to previous guidance of €3.4bn to €3.6bn, and the adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization of between €1.07bn and €1.12bn.

Nevertheless, the Italian luxury carmaker has performed better than most other car manufacturers and remains confident of a bounce-back in the second half of 2020 thanks to its strong order book.

In December 2019, the market capitalization of the Italian luxury carmaker touched nearly $41.2bn. After the Black Monday crash in March, this figure dropped to $38.7bn. However, the second quarter of 2020 witnessed an increasing trend, with the Ferrari market cap rising to $42.3bn in June. Statistics show the company’s market capitalization stood at $48.3bn at the beginning of this week, a 17% increase since January.

Porsche and Aston Martin Market Cap Plunged in 2020

While Tesla and Ferrari’s stocks performed well amid the coronavirus crisis, other leading luxury sports car manufacturers witnessed a plunge in their market capitalization since the beginning of the year.

Statistics show the combined value of shares of Porsche dropped by 19% in the last eight months, with the figure falling from $23.1bn in January to $18.7bn this week.

The financial results for the first half of the year revealed the German automaker’s sales decreased by 7.3% year-on-year to €12.42bn. The company recorded an operating profit of €1.2bn, while deliveries in the first six months of 2020 dropped by 12.4% globally to under 117,000 vehicles.

Statistics show Aston Martin (LON: AML) more than quadrupled its operating loss for the first six months of 2020 after a sharp fall in sales and revenue amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The British sports car manufacturer sold just 1,770 vehicles in the first half of the year, while total retail sales stumbled to £1.77bn, a 41% plunge year-on-year.

Moreover, the company’s market capitalization halved in 2020, with the combined value of stocks falling from $1.6bn in January to $760.2 million in August.

Aston Martin DB5 Junior: A New Generation

Aston Martin and The Little Car Company today announce the DB5 Junior, a two-thirds scale electric junior car. Developed over the last 15 months as a collaboration between the two companies, the junior car is based on Aston Martin’s reference 3D scan of an original DB5 to ensure complete accuracy and authenticity.

DB5 Junior Specifications

At around 3m long, and 1.1m wide, the DB5 Junior is designed to easily accommodate an adult and a child side by side, to allow different generations to share the love of driving. The aluminium honeycomb chassis and composite body provide a very rigid platform whilst keeping the total weight down to around 270kg. Powered by a torque-laden electric powertrain delivering 5kW / 6.7 bhp to the rear wheels, the drivers will be grateful for the integrated bucket seat as they accelerate to the 30mph top speed.

Absolute authenticity was key throughout the development of the vehicle. For example, the DB5 Junior sports the same iconic Aston Martin ‘wings’, ‘shield’ and DB5 badges as the original 1963 model. Like its big brother, the dashboard is filled with functional Smiths instruments, which have been cleverly updated for the modern era. The fuel gauge has been converted into a battery meter, while the oil temperature now monitors the motor temperature. Finally, the same Smiths clock as seen in the original 1960s car sits proudly in front of the passenger seat.

A perfect two-thirds scale steering wheel sits in front of the dash, but now sports a racing-style quick release to make entry and exit easier for the driver. Power is regulated by billet aluminium accelerator and brake pedals, and as you would expect there are working headlights, brake lights, indicators and a horn.

In true DB5 style, the car comes in the famous Silver Birch colour as standard, with a full black leather interior and carpet set. There is even a boot / trunk at the rear for storage should you wish.

The car sits on double wishbone suspension at the front as per the original, with the roll centre and camber gain matching the original geometry. At the rear there is the period-correct live axle, with authentic upper and lower trailing arm suspension and Panhard rod.

Power is transmitted to the ground through 10” wire wheels with four-wheel ventilated disc brakes, complemented by regenerative braking. A removable battery pack is stored under the opening bonnet, giving 10-20 miles (16-32km) driving range, depending on driving style. A second battery can be added, and each pack can be swapped for a replacement in a matter of seconds.

The junior car also has three integrated selectable driving modes:

  • A Novice mode with just 1kW / 1.3 bhp of power for less experienced drivers with a 12mph (19kmh) top speed. In this mode a remote kill switch is included allowing the car to be remotely disabled at up to 30m. And if an enthusiastic novice disappears outside that 30m range, the car will automatically shut down and come to a gentle halt.
  • An Expert mode is provided for more experienced drivers with 5kW / 6.7bhp of power and a 30mph (48kmh) top speed.
  • Finally Race mode is a “Balance of Performance” (BOP) setting which allows the acceleration and top speed of the vehicle to be aligned with other Little Car Company models for competition on an even playing field.

And finally, for the ultimate driving experience, a rally-style hydraulic handbrake is included. While strictly not necessary, it does add to the fun for the bigger kids amongst us.

Even more performance from the Vantage model

The Vantage version of the original DB5 was known for its performance upgrade. Now, the DB5 Vantage Junior takes the pace up a level, too. Whilst this elite model has the three driving modes of the standard car, there is also a fourth; Vantage mode, operated by a hidden ‘missile’ switch which doubles the power output to 10kW / 13.4bhp and increases the top speed to a still unconfirmed level. This output is now delivered to the wheels through a Limited-Slip Differential (LSD) to improve traction at high speed. Performance is further enhanced by the lightweight carbon fibre body and a second battery pack, doubling the range to 20-40 miles (32-64km) depending on driving style.

Revisiting an icon

Owners will be invited to customise their DB5 Juniors either with a range of representative period exterior and interior colours or perhaps delve into Aston Martin’s contemporary palette, to match their full-size car. The cars will also come with a range of optional accessories including flight cases, additional batteries, covers, toolkits and custom number plates.

Chris Porritt × Rimac Automobili

Rimac Automobili has appointed former Aston Martin Chief Engineer, VP of Engineering at Tesla and lead at Apple’s Special Projects Group, Chris Porritt, to the role of Chief Technology Officer. Chris will report directly to founder and CEO, Mate Rimac, with focus on future Rimac projects.

With a career spanning more than three decades, Chris has overseen the development of a number of bespoke performance and electric vehicles. During his 16 years at Aston Martin, he was Chief Engineer for the hand-built, limited production One-77 hypercar and V12 Vantage Zagato.

In 2013, Chris moved to California to become VP of Engineering at Tesla and then Apple, where he held a senior role within the Special Projects Group. His combined experience of high-end supercar development at Aston Martin, engineering electric vehicles at Tesla and his race-car enthusiasm, make him the perfect addition to the Rimac team. Chris joins Rimac Automobili from Apple. In addition to his professional journey, Chris spends his spare weekends and any free time building and racing his vintage race cars.

Mate Rimac, Founder and CEO, Rimac Automobili said: “We have started out in a country which is not  known for developing cars. We learnt so much through trial and error as it was difficult to attract people from other countries, making the process challenging but exciting. I can not imagine what our journey would have been like and how far along we would be now if we had Chris with us from the early days. I had concerns that people with great industry experience would not be a fit for our culture and company spirit. However, as a car enthusiast through and through, who gets the “hands dirty” himself, Chris fit right in from the first moment. We share the same mindset: we want to develop cars that raise the bar, are fun and great quality. I can’t wait to see what we will be able to create together.”

Chris Porritt, Chief Technology Officer, Rimac Automobili, said: “The opportunity to join Rimac Automobili is an engineer’s dream. Since nearly every key component is designed and built in-house by Rimac, this gives us freedom to create something that’s unlike anything else that has been done before in the Hypercar world. Rimac is the perfect place to use my combined experience in the engineering of supercars at Aston Martin and the EV engineering experience I gained in California. What the team has already achieved with the development of C_Two thus far is phenomenal, and I look forward to guiding the engineering development of future Rimac products that will push the envelope of performance.”

This year is a crucial period for the launch of Rimac’s latest all-electric hypercar, codenamed C_Two, as the prototypes are built, tested and crashed for global homologation. The 150 production examples of the new car will be hand-built on a new production line in Croatia, beginning in 2021. All major systems and components for the C_Two have been developed and built in-house by Rimac Automobili.

The Rimac C_Two will deliver a 0-100km/h time of <2 seconds and a top speed of 258mph in final production form. These performance figures have been achieved through development of the original C_Two concept and subsequent prototypes. In parallel with the development of the C_Two, the Rimac Automobili business has continued to scale up, with Porsche increasing its ownership stake in the business to 15.5% and Hyundai Motor Group investing 80M EUR into the business. These latest announcements join a long list of already established partners of Rimac, including Koenigsegg, Automobili Pininfarina and Aston Martin.

ASTON MARTIN × PIRELLI

PIRELLI SELECTED AS EXCLUSIVE TIRE SUPPLIER FOR THE BRAND-NEW ASTON MARTIN DBX

P ZERO FOR THE TRACK, SCORPION ZERO FOR OFF-ROAD, SCORPION WINTER FOR ICE AND SNOW

Nearly three years of hard work in close collaboration with Aston Martin’s engineers have resulted in three different tires to showcase the capabilities of the new DBX. This latest Aston Martin is equipped exclusively with Pirelli tires, following a painstaking development process designed to meet the exact requirements of the famous British manufacturer. The P Zero for the DBX has been developed to offer the best possible performance and handling while the Scorpion Zero AS will go off-road, and the Scorpion Winter delivers safety and performance even in in winter conditions, with the same dynamic drive as experienced in summer.

This joint development work, which is a hallmark of Pirelli’s ‘perfect fit’ strategy, began with laboratory testing before moving on to outdoor testing in varied conditions. The wet weather capabilities of the tires for the new Aston Martin DBX were refined at Pirelli’s test track in Vizzola near Milan, while tire performance on ice and snow was honed at Pirelli’s winter test facility at Fleurheden in Sweden. Outright performance was developed at the famous high speed Nardo circuit in southern Italy. The final validation came at the epic Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany: the ultimate test for any car and tire package.

P ZERO, A TIRE FOR GRAN TURISMO

The new Aston Martin DBX delivers maximum performance thanks to P Zero tires that have been developed especially for the vehicle. In particular, the compound is derived from tires used for GT cars, to maximise the V8 turbo power of the new Aston Martin. The P Zero compound for the DBX also produces maximum grip on the track. The zero-degree belt in the structure of this P Zero marked A8A on the sidewall (to identify specific tires for the Aston Martin DBX) uses a new hybrid material that offers better steering feel to enhance pleasure behind the wheel. Furthermore, it brings the overall weight of the tire down, reducing rolling resistance and fuel consumption.

SCORPION ZERO AS, FOR SPORTS PERFORMANCE OFF ROAD

The Pirelli Scorpion Zero AS is instead designed for those who also intend to use their DBX off-road. Aston Martin’s goal is to create possibilities for their customers, by offering a vehicle that is as versatile as possible while maintaining the performance and emotion that is synonymous with their cars. To achieve this objective, the Scorpion Zero tread pattern has been redesigned to optimize its off-road capabilities, with more rigid blocks towards the outside of the contact patch that provide enhanced grip in tricky conditions.

SCORPION WINTER: MAXIMUM SAFETY ON ICE AND SNOW

The Scorpion Winter, Pirelli’s specialized winter tire for SUVs, has been optimized for winter weather – right down to temperatures of -22oF– to guarantee maximum efficiency even in the most extreme conditions. Pirelli has modified the materials that make up the carcass of this tire to provide the best possible steering feel, even in winter. As a result, performance driving is not just a summer activity in the DBX.

PIRELLI AND ASTON MARTIN

Pirelli and Aston Martin have always enjoyed a long and close relationship. The arrival of the new DBX, which is only available to run on Pirelli tires, means that the Italian firm now equips 50% of all new Aston Martins, including iconic models such as the DBS Superleggera and new Vantage.

O’Gara Coach × Formula 1

This week marked the first-time Los Angeles has played host to a Formula 1 event. The Formula 1 Hollywood Ride of Fame took place on a closed down Hollywood Blvd over the course of two days, beginning Tuesday, October 29th, and ending on Wednesday 30th. Leading luxury car dealership group, O’Gara Coach Beverly Hills, sponsored the event as well as provided three of the participating vehicles, a McLaren GT4, McLaren 600LT, and an Aston Martin DBS.

“We’re very excited to welcome the Formula 1 family to Los Angeles and introduce the city to the pinnacle series of racing! We are particularly happy to have the Aston Martin Red Bull team here to tear up the streets on Hollywood Blvd and O’Gara is thrilled to also be a part of the show and excite the fans alongside F1.”
– Rhys Edwards, Executive Director of Marketing at O’Gara Coach

Formula 1 kicked off the event by featuring a static display of past and present F1 cars, giving enthusiasts the opportunity to take an up-close and personal look at the vehicles. The O’Gara Coach vehicles were also on display at this time, garnering attention from the crowds hoping to snap a photo and peek at the models. By 4 pm on Wednesday, the live festivities officially began and thousands of spectators were lined up on Hollywood Blvd to watch the live show. O’Gara kicked off the show by driving their cars through the track driven by world-class professionals including Parris Mullins, Mark Proto, and Geoff Reeves. The crowd was mesmerized as these dazzling vehicles exhibited a true pinnacle of supercars in the hustle and bustle of Hollywood Blvd. Following O’Gara’s presentation, Red Bull provided an extravagant display of dare devil’s parachuting from the sky to arrive right on the track, stunt bikers, and acrobats. As a special delight, a live orchestra led by composer Brian Tyler performed the F1 theme song.

Wednesday also featured demonstrations from three Formula 1 world champions Valtteri Bottas, Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen. The trio was accompanied by their respective teams; Mercedes AMG Petronas Racing, Renault F1, and Aston Martin Red Bull Racing, before heading to Austin Texas to compete in the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix. All three riders also took part in an inaugural “F1 Donut Competition”, and with the help of the crowd, guest judge Brian Tyler chose Valterri as the champion. To close out the festivities all three world champion riders took to the track and all completed donuts with their race cars at the same time. Safe to say, the crowd went wild!

The McLaren 570S GT4 is a full competition specification GT4 car that is ready to race straight from the factory. The new McLaren 600LT builds on the agility and the purity of the 570S, its detailed connection to the road, and imbues it with the raw thrills and exhilarating performance that only a McLaren “Longtail” can deliver. The Aston Martin DBS has long signified the utmost in elegance and speed, comfort and performance. The shape is unmistakably Aston Martin, but stronger, broader, and more muscular than ever, not as a stylish whim but to cool and control the most powerful machine Aston Martin has ever produced.
