Marvel Judgment Day

From the revolutionary writer Kieron Gillen and legendary artist Valerio Schiti comes JUDGMENT DAY, the new Marvel Comics blockbuster that opens up the Marvel Universe like you’ve never seen it before.

Working on projects such as ETERNALS and IMMORTAL X-MEN, we see Gillen defining a brand-new storyline with the addition of Jason Aaron and Javier Garron’s AVENGERS. The story starts when the X-Men have gained full immortality, with mutants overlooking everyone on the globe. We find the Eternals uncovering information about their own species, with some shocking and destructive information uncovered about mutants. The Avengers face encounters with the Celestials as they use a plunged Celestial to discover more secrets of the kind. While the Eternals go after the mutant nation of Krakoa, the Avengers work to stop a possible apocalyptic war. The dispute turns out to be anything but easy, as new characters emerge on all sides as the people of the Marvel Universe are judged for what they must face.

Gillen spoke on JUDGMENT DAY, stating, “There’s a classic metaphor to describe the Marvel Universe – a toybox, which creators take toys out of, play with and put back. I get it, but it’s never quite how I’ve seen it – I think ‘play’ in another way. I think of a music shop, with all these instruments with their different qualities suggesting different songs, different stories. For all the Marvel instruments I’ve played, I’ve never written an event. Writing an event is something different. It’s not like playing an instrument. It’s having all the instruments in the Marvel music shop. That’s not like writing a song. That’s like writing a symphony.

“I looked at everything in ETERNALS and IMMORTAL X-MEN and everything else all the X and Avengers writers have done and thought… yeah, this is an event. In fact, an event is the only way to do justice to this. The Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson described the music he was reaching for as Teenage Symphonies to God. I think that’s what the best Marvel Events aspire to be, and it’s what we’re aspiring to here. I want the scale. I want the heartbreak . I want a book that wears its heart on its sleeve even as it puts a fist in your face. I want something Wagnerian in its volume as emotional as God Only Knows.”

Schiti, too, added to the conversation, while stating, “It is great to have the opportunity to draw another Marvel event after Empyre. The difference is that last time I was just excited, but now I know how high the expectations are, so now I am both excited and a bit scared! Luckily for me I have the great Kieron Gillen and Marte Gracia watching my back and together we can face any cosmic threat!”

Ringing in the new year, the Rimac Group becomes its own entity as the Rimac Technology business.

Serving as a diverse company, Bugatti Rimac (active from November 21) falls within the clientele of the Rimac Technology business. The Rimac Group is a shareholder in Bugatti Rimac with 55% stake and Porsche with the following 45%. Rimac Group now owns the individual company of Rimac Technology. The fresh company has goals to develop its areas of expertise in the engineering, development, production and supply of differing systems that Rimac is renowned for – such as battery systems, electric drive units, electronic systems and user interface components.

A company with superior electronic expertise, Rimac Technology works closely with automotive manufacturers across Europe. These two realms collaborate in projects like the expansion of the Nevera, taking customers step by step through the process of product creation. Rimac Technology is especially known for their work with international OEMs such as Porsche, Hyundai, Kia, Automobili Pininfarina, Koenigsegg and Aston Martin, with other projects yet to be announced. With the development of Rimac Technology’s manufacturing capacities, the brand has goals to create tens of thousands of advanced systems per year by 2024.

The solely independent company works as an individual manufacturer, including sponsors into the Rimac Group business. Rimac Technology prioritizes clientele confidentiality with all projects, and that each endeavor will be completed to request of necessary cost, performance and within sufficient time.

Mate Rimac, CEO of Rimac Group, now heads both Bugatti Rimac and Rimac Technology. Although both the brands operate separately, they both work under Bugatti Rimac with shared R&B along with other roles. The potential of both Bugatti and Rimac automobiles will be corresponded to Bugatti Rimac, merging ideas and innovation in research and development, production and other areas.

Mate Rimac states, “If we go back to the very beginning of the Rimac Automobili business in 2009, the dream for me was to build my own electric hypercar. With Nevera we believe we’ve achieved that dream, creating a car that is not only the fastest accelerating in the world, but also comfortable, usable and brimming with our advanced technology. But Nevera isn’t just a standalone project, it’s a showcase of what Rimac Technology can do free from the costs or volume restraints of a large-scale manufacturer. We believe once you’ve pushed the technology as far as it can go, it makes it a lot easier to scale up to higher volume and lower cost. The e-Axles, Torque Vectoring, battery systems, connectivity, AI, and countless other electrical systems on Nevera are all our own creations, and each of them can be scaled to suit applications you might find on a range of higher volume performance vehicles.

Separating the technology business into its own entity is a natural step as the focus of the two markets, hypercars and components, are completely different. For example, the products of Rimac Technology, while being on the cutting edge of performance, also need to be extremely cost competitive and producible at huge scales, while those issues are secondary for the hypercar business. This new structure will enable each company of the Rimac Group to flourish to their full potential, while still sharing the synergies between them – for example using our own hypercars as testbeds for new technology before we offer it to other OEMs.”

360 Magazine had the opportunity to ask rising star, Gigi Vega, questions that her fans would want to know. Gigi Vega debuted her hit song “Mistletoe Kiss” taking the holiday music charts by storm. She went viral on TikTok with 10 million views and 15k videos. In addition to writing and producing, GiGi is a dancer and choreographer. Read on to learn more about Gigi!

GIGI VEGA INTERVIEW QUESTIONS: 

1. How has your family inspired you and your music?

GV: I would always do little shows and auditions. My father is a jazz musician. He would play the piano, so I was always surrounded by music, and theater as well. 

2. What or who inspired your song “Watchu Tryna Do?”

GV: It just happened. Actually, had it for a while, but was finally able to come back to it. Originally, the lyrics were supposed to be “in the club”, instead of “in the crib”. But I had to make adjustments due to COVID 19

3. Talk about your producer on this song? 

GV: Jack London. He has worked with the Chainsmokers.

4. Where do you get your ideas for songwriting? 

GV: Melodies just come to me. Melodies come first for me. Lyrics come from everyday life experiences. I’ve always been into dancing and singing. It’s something that just clicked for me, but I got more into it once I started composing my own songs.

5. What charities are you aligned with and why? 

GV: Anti-bullying programs.

6. What acting projects will you be involved with in the future?

GV: I will be in The Drone That Saved Christmas. Production begins in March. After that, I hope the COVID situation improves, so I can be touring.

7. Who are your biggest influences?

GV: Janet Jackson. Definitely into anyone who is super full out, and she is one of them.

8. What advice would you give to a singer starting out?

GV: Don’t let anyone steer you in the direction of what they want you to be – it is not worth it, ever.

9. Talk about your training as a triple threat, what do you do to stay on top? 

GV: Just take a look at my Music video, it is all there. Acting, dancing, singing. I have trained in all three disciplines since I was very young. My dance training was focused on modern dance, but I am schooled in all disciplines. I have always been on stage or behind the camera, so it is second nature.

10. How do you take care of your voice? 

GV: Regular training, like an athlete. Lots of lemon and pineapple juice, as well.

11. If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

GV: Chris Brown or Jason Derulo. Dancer/singer like I am. Janet – anyone who is full out, as mentioned before.

12. What is on your playlist right now?

GV: Omarion, Michael Jackson, Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Pop Smoke, Jason Derulo.

13. Who are you currently watching on TikTok?

GV: Everything that comes across my feed.:)

14. When did you know you wanted to be an entertainer? 

GV: Never thought about anything else. I was on stage from an early age. I made the move from stage to commercial work in my teens. Once I learned how to write solid music, I knew I wanted to record music. It was a process. I spent hundreds of hours in the studio as a kid.

15. What artist did you admire as a child?

 GV: I loved watching Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson is my absolute favorite.

16. Do you play any instruments? 

GV: I pluck out notes on the piano and guitar to help my melodies. Had many lessons and music theory, but I won’t be accompanying myself just yet.

17. What’s your fashion style?

GV: I like more tropical vibes, or casual, put-together vibes, but I always like to switch it up. I can be glam or a Tomboy. Get a girl who can do both.

18. What do you do to relax?

GV: I love fashion, always putting fashion pieces together. I learned to sew as a child, went to classes and camps for years. I was one of those kids who got a new shirt, and then I would go to my room and change the shape and design. I love listening to music and writing. Honestly, writing is my happy space.

19. What other businesses do you plan on starting to promote your brand?

GV: I am very into sneakers and shoes. I have so many different designs in my head that need to come out.

20. What’s the one thing you think everyone could do to make the world a more positive place?

GV: Less judgment of others, especially strangers.

Marvin Liao Joins FanVestor’s Advisory Board

Top venture capitalist and former Yahoo! senior executive Marvin Liao has joined the Advisory Board of global fintech fan investment and commerce platform FanVestor, the announcement was made today by company CEO Michael Golomb.

“Marvin’s expertise and proven track record are unmatched in the industry.  He managed one of the most successful accelerators, maturing and investing in more than 400 start-ups,” comments Golomb. “This combined with his vast global professional experience working at Yahoo! spearheading the company’s expansion in all important global markets make him a valuable addition to FanVestor’s Advisory Board.”

On the Advisory Board, Liao joins recently appointed members former President/CEO, DASAN Zhone Solutions Yung Kim and former PINTEC executive Alan Qiu.

Marvin Liao is an investor, executive coach, and formal advisor to several large family offices. Previously, he was a Partner at Venture Capital Fund 500 Startups, running the San Francisco-based accelerator program, as well as investing in seed-stage start-ups. He has invested in over 414 pre-seed and seed-stage startups during the six years spent there.

Liao also spent over a decade as a senior executive at Yahoo!, boasting an extensive operating experience expanding businesses across Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the United States. Liao presently serves on the boards of directors and advisory boards of several Internet advertising and ad technology companies around the world. He also is a mentor for a number of global accelerator programs.

Vera List Center Fellows

The Vera List Center for Art and Politics (VLC) at The New School proudly announces the appointment of five fellows for the upcoming 2020-2022 program cycle, including Boris Lurie Fellow Etcétera and Borderlands Fellows Carolina Caycedo and Maria Hupfield, in addition to Adelita Husni-Bey and Rasheedah Phillips. The Boris Lurie Fellowship and Borderlands Fellowships are being awarded for the first time. With the addition of two new initiatives, this cycle represents a significant expansion of the VLC’s fellowship program and its support to artists.

The fellows are appointed under the VLC’s 2020-2022 thematic focus, As for Protocols. Over the next two years, the center will investigate protocols of power and control that are exerted over people, places, and the environment but also their liberatory potential. Evidence of governmental, political, social, or corporate structures, protocols speak of power—especially as it impacts Black, Indigenous, and other marginalized people—and thus invite resistance, subversion, and action. While each fellow’s practice is distinct in form and focus, their work represents a common commitment to community-building, bridging political and geographic borders, and a vital connection to others that incorporates protocols and is especially important during a time of social distancing and growing socio-political division.

“The intimacy of the fellowship experience intersects with urgent concerns affecting people throughout the world. We’re thrilled to be able to support the work of these exceptional artists over the next two years, and to significantly broaden the fellowship initiative in response to the needs of artists,” said Carin Kuoni, Senior Director and Chief Curator of the Vera List Center for Art and Politics.

The Boris Lurie Fellow is the first-named artist fellowship offered by the Vera List Center. Established with a grant from the Boris Lurie Art Foundation, it is awarded to an artist living outside the U.S. with special consideration of those who have faced political hardship. “The selection of Etcétera — with its sense of subversiveness and bold political views — is an exciting and auspicious choice for this inaugural Boris Lurie Fellow,” said Gertrude Stein, Director of the Boris Lurie Art Foundation. “Our hope is that this fellowship with the Vera List Center will serve as an inspiration to artists everywhere to express their political views in their art.”

The Borderlands Fellowship is a collaboration of the VLC and the Center for Imagination in the Borderlands at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona, to support research projects that create communities across different geographical, cultural, and political landscapes. The fellowships will focus on the relevance of place, thus seeking to support and apply an Indigenous lens to reflect on questions of borderlands.

“The Center for Imagination in the Borderlands uses a lens of Indigeneity which centers our connection to the land and waters of the borderlands, what exists beneath and around the man-made borders, and the connections — through body, language, ceremony, care-taking of land body and water, and movement — that honor both autonomy and our relationship to one another as people and also as non-human living beings,” said Natalie Diaz, Akimel O’odham poet and director of the Center for Imagination in the Borderlands at Arizona State University. Read full Borderlands Fellowship press release here.

Since its inception in 1993, the Vera List Center fellowship program has supported 33 distinguished artists and scholars including Lawrence Abu Hamdan, Maurice Berger, Jill Magid, Lorraine O’Grady, Walid Raad, and most recently, Dean Erdmann and Helene Kazan. Adelita Husni-Bey

Milano, Italy, and Brooklyn, New York

Drawing upon historical and contemporary protocols, policy responses, and decrees in response to viral pandemics, Husni-Bey’s temporary School of Pandemics project will unfold as a series of theater workshops and subsequent short films that propose the virality of mutual aid and international solidarity networks as transformative social forces that emerge and are instituted under quarantine.

Adelita Husni-Bey is an artist and pedagogue invested in anarcho-collectivism, theater, and critical legal studies. She organizes workshops, produces publications, broadcasts, and exhibition work using non-competitive pedagogical models through the framework of contemporary art. Involving activists, architects, jurists, schoolchildren, spoken word poets, actors, urbanists, physical therapists, students, and teachers, the work consists of making sites to practice collectively. Her work was part of the Italian pavilion at the 57th Venice Biennale, Venice, 2017, and her most recent solo exhibition was Chiron, New Museum, New York, 2019. She has participated in Being: New Photography 2018, The Museum of Modern Art, New York, 2018; Dreamlands, Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, 2016; The Eighth Climate, 11th Gwangju Biennale, 2015; Really Useful Knowledge, Reina Sofia Museum, Madrid, 2014; and Utopia for Sale?, Maxxi Museum, 2014.

Rasheedah Phillips

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

The fellowship project Time Zone Protocols explores rules underlying Westernized concepts of time, standardized at the 1884 International Meridian Conference in Washington, D.C., and their role in the systemic, temporal oppression of Black and other marginalized communities. Resulting in inter-media work–including maps, zines, and digital films–and the Prime Meridian Unconference, the project rewrites the protocols of time with a Black temporal lens.

Rasheedah Phillips is a queer Philadelphia-based public interest attorney, mother, interdisciplinary artist, and Black Futurist cultural producer whose writing has appeared in Keywords for Radicals, Temple Political and Civil Right Journal, The Funambulist Magazine, Recess Arts, and more. She is the founder of The AfroFuturist Affair, a founding member of Metropolarity Queer Speculative Fiction Collective, co-founder of Black Quantum Futurism, and co-creator of Community Futures Lab. She is a social justice advocate, a 2016 graduate of Shriver Center’s Racial Justice Institute, and a 2018 Atlantic Fellow for Racial Equity. As part of BQF Collective and as a solo artist, Phillips has been A Blade of Grass and Velocity Fund Fellow, and has exhibited, presented, been in residence, and performed at Institute of Contemporary Art London, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Serpentine Gallery, Red Bull Arts, Chicago Architecture Biennial, Akademie Solitude, and more.

Boris Lurie Fellowship

Etcétera (Loreto Garín Guzmán and Federico Zukerfeld) – Buenos Aires, Argentina

As a counter position to multinational agreements and treaties for the protection of the environment that often fail or disappoint, Etcétera will develop NEO-EXTRA-ACTIVISM: For a Protocol of Buen Vivir (Good Living), a two-year platform for collecting and creating new and existing protocols protecting the environment that are based on or inspired by those of farmers and Indigenous peoples, socio-environmental organizations and activists, art and ecology groups, and, more recently, mutual aids, and incorporate the Indigenous concept of Buen Vivir.

Formed in 1997 in Buenos Aires, Etcétera is a multidisciplinary collective composed of visual artists, poets, and performers. Since 2007 it has been led by co-founders Soledad Garín Guzmán (Chile) and Federico Zukerfeld (Argentina). In 2005, they were part of the founding of the International Errorist movement, an international organization that proclaims error as a philosophy of life. In addition to participating in exhibitions in museums and biennials such as the biennials of Jakarta (2015), São Paulo (2014), Athens (2013), Istanbul (2009), and Taipei (2008), they often work with street-art, public interventions, actions, and performances that are necessarily contextual, ephemeral, and circumstantial. In 2015, they received the Prince Claus Award in the Netherlands. Their work has been recognized for its denouncement of human rights and environmental abuses through theatrical and poetic actions and statements often exercised at personal risk.

Borderlands Fellowship

Carolina Caycedo – Los Angeles, California

The Collapsing of a Model advances the artist’s work on the construction of “borders” as an extractive infrastructure serving multiple corporate and state interests, from homeland security to the oil industry. Her examination within the framework of fair energy transition focuses on local, popular, and self-sustaining energy production alternatives that challenge the current mining-energy model.

Carolina Caycedo is a London-born Colombian multidisciplinary artist known for her performances, video, artist’s books, sculptures, and installations that examine environmental and social issues. Her work contributes to the construction of environmental historical memory, as a fundamental element for non-repetition of violence against human and non-human entities. Among others, she held residencies at the DAAD in Berlin, and The Huntington Libraries, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens in San Marino, California; received funding from Creative Capital, California Community Foundation, and Prince Claus Fund; participated in the Chicago Architecture, São Paulo, Istanbul, Berlin, Venice, and Whitney Biennials. Recent and upcoming solo shows include Care Report at Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź, Poland; Wanaawna, Rio Hondo, and Other Spirits at Orange County Museum of Art; Cosmoatarrayas at ICA Boston; and From the Bottom of the River at MCA Chicago. Caycedo is the 2020 Wanlass Artist in Residence at Occidental College in Los Angeles. She is a member of the Los Angeles Tenants Union and the Rios Vivos Colombia Social Movement.

Borderlands Fellowship

Maria Hupfield – Toronto, Canada

Breaking Protocol will embody anthropologist Audra Simpson’s theory on the politics of refusal and Indigenous feminist scholarship on ethical collaboration. Using performance art and museum display strategies this project will visualize Native women, non-binary, and transgender people as the decolonial heart of art-making in North America.

Maria Hupfield is a transdisciplinary artist working in performance and media arts. She was awarded the Hnatyshyn Foundation Award for Outstanding Achievement by a Canadian mid-career artist (2018) and a Lucas Artists Fellowship in Visual Arts, Architecture & Design, Montalvo Arts Center (2019-2020). Hupfield is a Guest Curator for the Artists of Color Council, Movement Research at Judson Church, Winter 2020, and an inaugural resident of the Surf Point Foundation Residency 2020. Her solo Nine Years Towards The Sun at the Heard Museum, Phoenix, (2019) focuses on exhibiting performance as living culture and follows her first major institutional solo exhibition in Canada, The One Who Keeps on Giving, a production of The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery, Toronto. Her work has shown at the Museum of Arts and Design, BRIC, Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian, represented Canada at SITE Santa Fe (2016) and traveled nationally with Beat Nation: Art, Hip Hop, and Aboriginal Culture (2012-14); with recent performances at the National Gallery of Canada. Hupfield is an off-rez citizen of Wasauksing First Nation, Ontario, Anishinaabe Nation, and the recently appointed Canadian Research Chair in Transdisciplinary Indigenous Arts at the University of Toronto.

His skills not only impressed Kendrick but also caught the eye of Brasstracks (Chance The Rapper’s “No Problem”), who reached out and went to work, helping Kemba craft his forthcoming album due out next year.

Mustard, who reunited with YG for the rappers’ fourth studio album, Stay Dangerous, has had an impressive year. The 10 Summers CEO experienced chart-topping success after producing the single, “Boo’d Up” for his first signee, Ella Mai. The song topped three R&B/Hip-Hop Radio Charts, making Ella the first woman to do so since Beyoncé in 2012. Mustard, also appeared alongside, Nick Jonas at the 2018 VMA’s, as the duo performed their latest single “Anywhere”. Fans of Mustard can catch him at his Las Vegas residency where he will be headlining through September 22nd.
