DOLLY PARTON – TENNESSEE MUSIC PATHWAYS

STATE OF TENNESSEE AND SEVIER COUNTY HONORS DOLLY PARTON WITH UNVEILING OF NEW “TENNESSEE MUSIC PATHWAYS” MARKER IN GLOBAL MUSIC ICON’S HOMETOWN

New Marker Enhances Visitor Experience in Downtown Sevierville

Sevierville’s beloved hometown superstar, Dolly Parton, was honored with the unveiling of a new “Tennessee Music Pathways” marker. Representatives for Parton, along with city and state officials, gathered at the Sevier County Courthouse to celebrate the milestone achievement.

Distinguished as a singer, songwriter, actor, businesswoman and philanthropist, Parton is the most honored female country performer of all time and among the best-selling country artists of the post-World War II era. She opened one of the country’s most-visited attractions, Dollywood, and wrote one of the top-selling songs of all time, “I Will Always Love You.”

“I want to thank Commissioner Ezell and his team at the State of Tennessee,” said Dolly Parton. “I am proud to be from Sevier County and Sevierville and this Music Pathways sign honors me, my family and my history there.”

“When you think of Tennessee and music, there are key figures and places that often to come mind, and Dolly is one of them,” said Tennessee Department of Tourist Development Commissioner Mark Ezell, “I couldn’t think of a better way to honor her great musical legacy and all that she has done not only for music across the state but tourism as well. Dollywood is a key attraction for visitors to come and experience from across the world, and it is a great privilege to recognize the work and success of a true Tennessee icon.”

Located directly by Parton’s bronze statue on the Sevier County Courthouse lawn, the new marker commemorates Parton’s rich musical heritage in Sevier County and across Tennessee. It adds to a flourishing presence of tributes that lure Parton fans from across the world to her hometown. While in Sevierville, guests can follow Parton’s footsteps and visit the spots that played a part in the global sensation’s childhood, including:

  • A mural depicting a young Dolly Parton enjoying a burger at Red’s Café (a favorite Sevierville restaurant during her youth),
  • the Parton inspired butterfly mural on Bruce Street,
  • the bronze statue that depicts a younger Parton strumming on a guitar
  • and her newly installed “Tennessee Music Pathways” marker

Among Parton’s accolades are nine Grammys (including one for Lifetime Achievement), 10 Country Music Association Awards, seven Academic of Country Music Awards, and three American Music Association Awards. She has also been nominated for two Emmys, one tony award and two Academy Awards (Oscars), one of them for her song “9 to 5.” Although she is regarded as a country singer and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1999, her flamboyant personality has endeared her to many who do not consider themselves country fans.

Dolly Rebecca Parton was born on Jan. 19, 1946, in Locust Ridge in rural Sevier County, the fourth of 12 children. She drew on her family’s impoverished circumstances for several songs, notably “Coat of Many Colors.” Her earliest public appearances were in church. By age 10, she was on Cas Walker’s “Farm and Home Hour” in Knoxville. Her first record was released in 1959.

The day after her high school graduation in 1964, Parton went to Nashville and found initial success as a songwriter. In 1967, country star Porter Wagoner brought her onto his television show and began producing her RCA Victor Records, both as a solo performer and his duet partner. Her first No. 1 country hit, “Joshua,” came in 1971. After another No. 1 hit, “Jolene,” Parton left Wagoner’s television show. Her 1974 No. 1 song, “I Will Always Love You,” in February of that year, was viewed as her confirming her intention to sever all her contractual obligations to Wagoner.

Managed out of Hollywood, Parton began broadening her appeal. Her 1977 album Here You Come Again became a No. 1 country album and Top 20 pop album. She starred in the movie “9 to 5,” one of the all-time highest-grossing comedies, and her title song topped the country and pop charts. In 1983, she scored her second and last No. 1 pop hit with “Islands In the Stream,” a duet with Kenny Rogers.

In 1922, Whitney Houston’s recording of “I Will Always Love You” spent four weeks at No. 1 on the pop charts and is ranked among the Top 10 top-selling singles of all time.

Parton stretched her career in several directions, most notably in launching Dollywood. She has expanded the scope of its attractions, and the Dollywood Foundation has worked to offer scholastic opportunities and medical services to underserved communities.

Parton’s later recording career featured a return to her Appalachian and bluegrass roots, including the 1999 Grammy-winning Best Bluegrass Album, The Grass is Blue. In 2015, she narrated and wrote the story for another venture rooted in her upbringing, “Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors” on NBC-TV. She continues to be actively involved in music and philanthropic ventures. Her Imagination Library has given more than 100 million books to children around the world.

Lele Pons – Al Lau

Ascending to the forefront of popular music and culture worldwide, global entertainer, social media influencer and Latin music sensation Lele Pons releases a new single and music video entitled “Al Lau.”

The track highlights her dynamic vocals over a glossy groove and bouncy beat highlighted by acoustic guitar. She delivers verses with confidence before launching into a simmering chorus. The music video tells two parallel stories: Lele getting ready for a night out and a male protagonist as he does the same. Their paths cross at a bar before the clip takes a surprising turn. Click HERE to listen and watch the music video.

About the song, she commented, “I wanted to create something that felt fresh and sweet—something that people can vibe to when they reconnect with their friends and family this summer. I’m so proud of ‘Al Lau,’ because I’m not sure if I could have made this type of song a year or two ago. I’ve been working hard to grow as an artist, and I hope everyone can feel that when they listen to the new sound in this record.”

Lele’s 2020: “Se Te Nota” feat. Guaynaa remains a worldwide phenomenon and has reached equivalent status of Double Diamond in Mexico, Triple Platinum in the U.S., and Platinum in Spain. So far, it has clocked over 650 Million total streams and counting. Rising Star Gigi Vega

360 Magazine had the opportunity to ask rising star, Gigi Vega, questions that her fans would want to know. Gigi Vega debuted her hit song “Mistletoe Kiss” taking the holiday music charts by storm. She went viral on TikTok with 10 million views and 15k videos. In addition to writing and producing, GiGi is a dancer and choreographer. Read on to learn more about Gigi!

GIGI VEGA INTERVIEW QUESTIONS:

1. How has your family inspired you and your music?

GV: I would always do little shows and auditions. My father is a jazz musician. He would play the piano, so I was always surrounded by music, and theater as well.

2. What or who inspired your song “Watchu Tryna Do?”

GV: It just happened. Actually, had it for a while, but was finally able to come back to it. Originally, the lyrics were supposed to be “in the club”, instead of “in the crib”. But I had to make adjustments due to COVID 19

3. Talk about your producer on this song?

GV: Jack London. He has worked with the Chainsmokers.

4. Where do you get your ideas for songwriting?

GV: Melodies just come to me. Melodies come first for me. Lyrics come from everyday life experiences. I’ve always been into dancing and singing. It’s something that just clicked for me, but I got more into it once I started composing my own songs.

5. What charities are you aligned with and why?

GV: Anti-bullying programs.

6. What acting projects will you be involved with in the future?

GV: I will be in The Drone That Saved Christmas. Production begins in March. After that, I hope the COVID situation improves, so I can be touring.

7. Who are your biggest influences?

GV: Janet Jackson. Definitely into anyone who is super full out, and she is one of them.

8. What advice would you give to a singer starting out?

GV: Don’t let anyone steer you in the direction of what they want you to be – it is not worth it, ever.

9. Talk about your training as a triple threat, what do you do to stay on top?

GV: Just take a look at my Music video, it is all there. Acting, dancing, singing. I have trained in all three disciplines since I was very young. My dance training was focused on modern dance, but I am schooled in all disciplines. I have always been on stage or behind the camera, so it is second nature.

10. How do you take care of your voice?

GV: Regular training, like an athlete. Lots of lemon and pineapple juice, as well.

11. If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

GV: Chris Brown or Jason Derulo. Dancer/singer like I am. Janet – anyone who is full out, as mentioned before.

12. What is on your playlist right now?

GV: Omarion, Michael Jackson, Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Pop Smoke, Jason Derulo.

13. Who are you currently watching on TikTok?

GV: Everything that comes across my feed.:)

14. When did you know you wanted to be an entertainer?

GV: Never thought about anything else. I was on stage from an early age. I made the move from stage to commercial work in my teens. Once I learned how to write solid music, I knew I wanted to record music. It was a process. I spent hundreds of hours in the studio as a kid.

15. What artist did you admire as a child?

GV: I loved watching Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson is my absolute favorite.

16. Do you play any instruments?

GV: I pluck out notes on the piano and guitar to help my melodies. Had many lessons and music theory, but I won’t be accompanying myself just yet.

17. What’s your fashion style?

GV: I like more tropical vibes, or casual, put-together vibes, but I always like to switch it up. I can be glam or a Tomboy. Get a girl who can do both.

18. What do you do to relax?

GV: I love fashion, always putting fashion pieces together. I learned to sew as a child, went to classes and camps for years. I was one of those kids who got a new shirt, and then I would go to my room and change the shape and design. I love listening to music and writing. Honestly, writing is my happy space.

19. What other businesses do you plan on starting to promote your brand?

GV: I am very into sneakers and shoes. I have so many different designs in my head that need to come out.

20. What’s the one thing you think everyone could do to make the world a more positive place?

GV: Less judgment of others, especially strangers.

About Bongo ByTheWay

Uforo “Bongo” Ebong, better known as Bongo ByTheWay, is a Grammy-winning platinum record producer originally from Nigeria and raised in both Florida and Rhode Island (currently residing in Los Angeles, CA). Bongo became known for his unparalleled talent with production; he also plays bass, piano and a multitude of other percussion instruments. As a child who grew up in the church, Bongo took to music as an outlet early on and received teaching from his musically inclined older brother beginning at age eight. By the time he was eleven Bongo began creating his own beats and got his first major placement on a Musiq Soulchild track when he was only 18. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of North Florida, Bongo relocated to the entertainment epicenter of Los Angeles to focus on his music full-time. But despite his early expression of talent and validation from big names in the industry, Bongo ByTheWay never stopped striving to get better and better and merge his instrumentalist background with the wave of new technology available. As the rising super-producer has explained, I grew up appreciating organic sounds. I played in the church, I grew up listening to Erykah Badu and The Roots, people that really have that feel of the instrumentation. But at the same time, I do appreciate the nuances of technology because they allow you to express yourself in a new way and have different soundscapes that are cutting edge.”

As his career was taking off majorly beginning in 2013, Bongo became widely known for his production on Big Sean’s number one album Dark Sky Paradise and Documentary 2 by The Game. Bongo’s unique high-caliber production turned heads throughout the industry and has since led him to producing tracks for Roddy Ricch, Nipsey Hussle, Jeremih, Eric Bellinger, Kanye West, Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Ty Dolla $ign, Snoop Dogg and Future among many others. He’s a 4-time Grammy nominated producer for songs with YBN Cordae and BJ the Chicago Kid and his landmark Grammy Award winning production on “Free From It All” by Hip Hop – Gospel crossover star Lecrae and his extensive discography has cemented him as one of THE most sought-after producers for popular urban music. In the summer of 2020, even amidst a global pandemic, Bongo ByTheWay secured two Billboard number ones for his chart-topping production on Teyana Taylor’s The Album and Pop Smoke’s Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon. A high-achieving person by nature, there’s no doubt that BongoByTheWay won’t stop his grind, no matter how many accolades he earns. Selena Gomez releases a highly anticipated new song about self-love.  “Lose You To Love Me” is available today at all digital retailers via Interscope Records.  Selena co-wrote the song with long-time collaborators Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter as well as Mattias Larsson and Robin Fredriksson with additional production from FINNEAS. Gomez says, “This song was inspired by many things that have happened in my life since releasing my last album.  I thought it was important to share the music, as I know many can relate to the fact that the road to self-discovery generally comes through the scars in one’s life.  I want people to feel hope and to know you will come out the other side stronger and a better version of yourself.” Listen to “Lose You To Love Me” HERE.

The beautiful music video directed by the acclaimed Sophie Muller (“Good for You”) was shot entirely on the new iPhone 11 Pro.  Watch the video HERE.

Earlier this year, Gomez was featured on “I Can’t Get Enough” with Benny Blanco, J Balvin and Tainy. In 2018, she collaborated with DJ Snake, Ozuna and Cardi B on the global hit “Taki Taki,” which became one of the fastest videos to reach over 100 million views. Her previous five singles “It Ain’t Me” with Kygo, “Bad Liar,” “Fetish,” “Wolves” x Marshmello and “Back to You” all have been certified RIAA platinum or multi-platinum.  As a solo artist Gomez has accumulated over 20 billion global streams.

At the end of 2017 Gomez was named Billboard Magazine’s “Woman of the Year.” In 2015, Gomez released her critically acclaimed album Revival. The first three singles off the album “Good For You,” “Same Old Love” and “Hands to Myself” went to number one on the US Top 40 chart. Gomez is one of only six female artists to have at least three songs from one album reach the #1 position since the chart launched in 1992.

Gomez most recently executive produced the critically acclaimed Netflix docu-series “Living Undocumented” which created much buzz and discussion regarding the polarizing issue of undocumented people living in the United States.  Earlier this year, she starred in Jim Jarmusch’s film THE DEAD DON’T DIE opposite Bill Murray and Adam Driver, which premiered at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival.
