How Much Time do We Spend Using a Smartphone in the UK?

On average, the Britons are currently spending more than 30 hours a week online making it one of the most addictive activities around. People spend a good part of their time on the internet doing a variety of things including betting, playing online games, dating while others are there mainly for business purposes.

In recent statistics, most of the youths aged between 16 years and 24 years have been noted to be having the highest population of internet users. Smartphones have made work extremely easy and manageable due to the high levels of technology prevailing in the country.

Some Statistics

In these times, the rate at which people are using the internet, especially the smartphones has greatly risen compared to the past 10 years. The statistics have also shown that women are spending more of their time on the internet as compared to men.

More time online

As previously stated, in the UK people are averagely spending 24 hours a week on the internet. This tells of the great influence the internet has to the people and their general well-being. The comprehensive report which was compiled by Ofcom has also revealed that 78% of the UK population use smartphones on online related activities.

The addiction has moved to a higher level in that people here check-in using their smartphones after every 12 minutes and as well 35% of the population check their phones just before going to bed.

Less time on phone calls

Another good example that can really tell how much people treasure their smartphones than any other thing else is in the way they are making their phone calls. It has been noted that the total number of outgoing calls has greatly dropped by 1.7 percent.

The main cause is that people have turned away from the normal phone calls and have opted to call using WhatsApp or messenger. To be more precise, 75% of the population prefer making phone calls in this way and at the same time 92 percent of the population say browsing the web is more important.

The Most Popular Mobile Activities

Mobile related activities have been on the increase especially after the introduction of modern technology and the wide use of the internet by most people in the UK. This brought a lot of advancement and development in the mobile sector and the entire IT fraternity.

Social Media

The social media platforms are among the most popular among many of the UK residents. People have turned away from messaging and currently WhatsApp, Facebook and twitter among the widely used social media platforms. This has become one of the simplest ways of reaching out to a wider audience and is equally an effective tool for communication.

Slots

This is another common activity among many residents of the UK, especially the adults. Most of the residents are glued on their screens spending a few of their minutes and hours playing at casinos not on Gamstop via mobile. This has gained popularity among the residents and it has greatly contributed to uncontrolled rates of addiction among many. Slots can either be played for fun or for real money. Although it is liked by many, it has as well caused high rates of addiction leading to problem gambling rising.

Dating services

This is yet another more popular activity among many. Most people have linked up through these dating sites and it eventually ended up in marriage to a number of them. It has been a common thing on the internet among many youths and adult and several relationships have thrived to a greater extend.

Conclusion

Since the introduction of mobile technology especially smartphones, a lot of developers have been realized in the technological sector. This has glued many people on their screens spending time with mobile gaming. Great thanks to the recent advancements in mobile technology who are taking the lion’s share in terms of offering reliable, fast and standard solutions to many of the problems.

ALBUM LIFE SUPPORT

WATCH HERE

Madison Beer release her latest single “Baby” via Sing It Loud/First Access Entertainment on exclusive license to Epic Records. With the drop of the single comes a dreamy voyeuristic video that finds Madison plucked from a picturesque scene and dropped into the dark reality of life. “Baby” is taken from Madison’s forthcoming debut full length album Life Support, out later this year. You can listen to the single here.

“Coming out of a dark time mentally I inevitably had to build my confidence back up,” says Madison. “Writing ‘Baby’ made me feel in control of myself and my body again in the best way. When I wrote ‘Baby’ I was not only reminding myself that I can have what I deserve but also warning the next person that comes into my life that being with me is conditional . ‘If you wanna be my baby’ then know I’m going to be loud, quiet, wild, sexy, shy, high, low. I’m not going to apologize for who I am or shrink myself down anymore so if you can’t deal, then keep walking. I am regaining my confidence and this song truly makes me feel powerful and I hope it supplies anyone who might need a boost of confidence the same thing.”

Madison’s debut album, a strong personal and artistic statement, is slated for release later this year. “Her soon to be released album,” states V Magazine, “will surely pay homage to her years of growth in the spotlight with an entirely new depth of clarity.” Life Support sees Madison where she thrives – commanding complete creative control through writing her own songs, producing and creating her own visuals. The album will feature previous releases “Good In Goodbye,” “Selfish,” and “Stained Glass” which have a combined total stream count of over 282 million. “Selfish” is now also certified Gold in the US.

Prior to signing with Epic Recordslate last year, Madison Beer achieved unprecedented success as an independent artist with her partner First Access Entertainment. Her debut EP As She Pleases boasts over 950 million streams and made her the first independent female solo artist to break into the Top 20 radio charts, after having debuted in the Top 5 on iTunes in 18 countries and in the Top 10 in 42 countries worldwide. Globally, Beer has over 2 billion streams across her catalogue.

She’s attracted the endorsement of Time, NME, V MagazineBillboard who named her among its coveted “21 Under 21” list and Rolling Stone who hailed her as a “raising pop star.” Madison will be debuting “Baby” on The Late Late show with James Corden on August 26th.

Fashion trends in 2018

Fashion and Social media influencer Urszula Makowska is a fashionable New Yorker with over 116k followers on Instagram. She was invited to almost every event of the New York Fashion Week. Urszula is influencing others with her fashion style and at this occasion, she had an interview that revealed what the fashion trends are of 2018, as seen at the NYFW.

As a fashion blogger, what were you looking forward to seeing in New York Fashion week?

The most exciting time of the year for bloggers is always fashion week. This time of the year is the busiest for us. We plan our outfits and the events we will attend in advance. We work hard to coordinate everything to perfection including travel and hotel stays.

Personally, I love fashion week. For me, it is extremely exciting. I am a fashion addict and I love to attend shows and presentations to view the upcoming trends for the next seasons. I love to see what designers have created for the upcoming seasons. It is all a work of art and a way to express yourself. Then I love to share the upcoming trends with my followers and readers. During this F/W 2018 New York Fashion Week, I was super excited to attend my shows since I officially received over 40 invitations, and this included some of the big designers from Badgley Mischka to BCBG Maxazria. I was extremely proud of myself to have the ability to attend my shows and presentations. It has shown me how far I came into my career as a blogger. I was also looking forward to not only attending the shows and events, but also seeing friends who were flying into New York City, networking, meeting other bloggers, and working together with photographers to take photos of my looks.

Why is it important for a fashion blogger to attend Fashion Week?

Fashion week is extremely important for any fashion blogger and fashion influencer. Now-in-days, we bloggers and influencers hold the power to influencing and generating sales. We dominate the market and this directly means that we always have to be on top of the upcoming trends. Followers and readers look up to us as having the knowledge of our niche and market. They know us as the experts for getting style inspiration or simply buying what we are wearing or using. Fashion week allows us to keep up with the upcoming trends. We are able to see what products will be hot for the next season and how they can be styled. We are able to see the new trends before anyone else and we are able to introduce these new innovations to our followers and readers.

Aside from that, attending fashion week is also important to us in terms of networking. By attending these events, we are meeting people constantly. These people may be bloggers, editors, or photographers. We have the ability to form a relationship and partner together in the future. I know I personally have met a lot of people this season and I created strong friendships with them. We are always working together and supporting one another. At the end of the day, this only benefits you.

What was your best event so far from NYFW and why?

The best event from NYFW for me was going backstage with Aveda for Tibi. I personally love Tibi and have always wanted to attend one of their shows. Tibi’s fashion shows are extremely popular. A lot of bloggers always want to attend Tibi’s show. Luckily, I was able to go backstage with Aveda since I have a strong relationship with Aveda as one of their influencers. I was able to see the full on hair trends, hair tips, hair inspirations, makeup trends, makeup inspirations, and looks beforehand. I was extremely happy to see everything beforehand, but to learn a lot myself. I was happy to network and see my Aveda family.

Which look was your favorite look that you wore to NYFW?

One of my favorite looks for the shows was the classic Chanel themed look I went for from the S/S 2018 show. I bought a cute classic Zara dress and jacket that looked similar to the Chanel vibes from their S/S 2018 show. I layered a lilac turtleneck under the dress and paired it off with Kanye West Tubular shoes.

Which fashion trends are going to be popular this year according to NYFW?

There are a lot of upcoming trends that I saw during the F/W 2018/2019 shows that I am looking forward to.

Currently plaid is in, but don’t worry, it is not leaving anywhere anytime soon. For the upcoming seasons, we will see plaid like never before. It will be bolder than ever. We will be making statements in plaid. Plaid in saturated hues such as hot pink will be hotter than ever. During NYFW plenty of designers showcased plaid suits in hot pink and they were incredible.

Regarding outerwear, puffers, fur, and trench coats will be in trend. They will be more dramatic than ever. They will catch anyone’s eyes. We saw puffers on the runway in bright hues and extremely oversized. That is how we will see them in the fall and winter. Fur jackets were seen in bright colors from yellow to red. Trench coats were seen in leopard prints everywhere during NYFW.

One new trend that was introduced the new crop top silhouette. This top is a part bathing suit, part sports bra, and part strapless bra with underwire. It was seen a lot on the runway and will be extremely popular.

In terms of color trends, red and hot pink will be the hottest colors of the season. We saw bright pink everywhere on the runway from tops to shoes. We also saw red dominate from head to toe. The most exciting part is that the combination of pink and red will be extremely popular. Most designers used a combination of both of their pieces.

What is your personal favorite trend from NYFW?

One of my personal favorite trends will be tea length floral dresses. During the shows, these dresses were paired with cute booties. I am a big fan of booties and floral prints. I find this trend to be extremely chic, but casual. It is perfect for any person to easily put together for any occasion.

Q × A

How do you feel to be considered a fashion icon?

  • The reality is that I conquered every single thing by hard work. There is no better feeling than being recognized, seen, and heard. It means that my message is getting out there louder and louder. Fashion to me is a way to wrap your soul. I love that women and men can look at me to be inspired by who I am, inside and out. I believe this is what makes you a fashion icon.

When you were younger, was there a pivitol moment where you knew fashion would be your life calling?

    • When I was 16 and was told that I had the body of a model I remember having butterflies in my stomach. I looked at myself in the mirror and said: “One day you will be a top model”. That was my childhood dream. A pure dream that simply means to strive to be the best of the best. Being recognized today as such gives me the strength to keep on working. The beautiful part is that I get inspired everyday by my mentor, Daisaku Ikeda, knowing for a fact that there is no limit to going beyond yourself. I am looking forward to see myself in 5 years. The “no” are there, many times they are stronger than the yes. When they hit me however I know I need to surpass them.

Lastly, who or what influences your current style now? And who are your current favorite brands?

      • Instagram is my beyond imagination source of inspiration. We dictate trends. Things that we wore months before make it onto the catwalks the following season. This happens all the time with many amazing influencers. Brands are watching us now to pick up inspiration: this is the concrete signal that social media has changed an industry. I am an Italian soul and body, I adore Gucci and Fendi. I take joy in discovering new international brands and selecting the best out of them such as Malika Rajani, Femme Sans Peur, Michelle Nicole. A big shout out to stylist Ninorta Malke for making me discover Dreams On Air, a New York City showroom with amazing innovative labels. As a fashion Influencer discovering the new, seeing their vision, mission, and love gives me so much motivation. Keep on being YOU.
