Interview With Graham and Brown

Graham & Brown was founded by Harold Graham and Henry Brown in 1946 during a paper shortage. Today, they sell wallpaper that spices up spaces and and helps people turn houses into homes. I spoke with Paula Taylor, Graham & Brown’s Color & Trend Specialist about what Graham & Brown does, and what trends we expect from them going forward.

Does Graham & Brown do custom designs for homes or individuals?

Yes, both.

Where can someone find/purchase Graham and Brown?

On this website.

When will the next Graham & Brown collection or design be released? Can you give us any hints as to what it will look like?

Graham & Brown will release their next Color of the Year and Wallpaper of Year in September 2021–stay tuned!

Where do you find inspiration for new designs?

We have a vast 30,000-piece archive that we often look back to for inspiration for future pieces. It is really great for understanding how trends have changed and will continue to change moving forward. We also do extensive trend research and have various stories that we work to refresh and update every four to six months. [By] keep[ing] them as relevant and forward thinking as possible, [it] helps us capture any satellite trends that emerge.

What are some of the most popular designs Graham & Brown has created?

Boreas has been a popular design choice, tapping into the botanical look that has always been prevalent, but has taken on a new lease of life in recent months. This [popularity] has been highlighted through the biophilia trend of bringing the outside in. Other customer favorites are geometrics such as Palais–elegantly simple with a nod to the Art Deco, rounded styling we are seeing more of.

Can you tell us what styles and trends are popping up for the summer?

Whilst there has been a growing trend for feature walls, we are also seeing more people wallpapering all four walls to make a real statement. organThe latest trend is for the ceiling to be wallpapered too, furthering that statement look. By papering the ceiling, the edges of the room appear to blur, and you create a cozy feel that appears limitless.

We are also seeing trends that can help reduce stress, such as balance and geometry, [due to] a need to create order in these uncertain times. Simplified structures and architectural references with a repetitive pattern will calm the senses and bring order to the chaos, [as] comfort is found in the routine.

The biophilia trend will remain key for summer as we see organic imagery taking over. It brings the outside in and connects us with natural elements. This connection is of ever-increasing importance to our health and wellbeing in urban society. Research has shown that even indirect elements of nature help reduce stress, blood pressure and heart rates, as well as promote wellbeing.

Next time you are looking to re-do your home, office, apartment, or even dorm room, think of Graham & Brown and check out their website!

Backyarding is Here to Stay

Backyarding is Here to Stay & It Has a Purpose. What’s Yours?

By Kris Kiser, President & CEO of the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute

What once only happened indoors now happens outdoors. It’s called “backyarding,” and it’s a trend that’s here to stay. From office work to working out, from eating to entertaining, if these activities were once typically held inside a home or office, they are now being brought to the great outdoors.

Simply think back over the last year and recount the number of times your backyard has taken center stage in your everyday life. The family yard became the safe and purposeful space where we could gather and recharge. Spending time outdoors is great for your physical and mental health, and our backyards are the bridge between indoor and outdoor living.

The backyard is nearly limitless with possibilities, and you can get really creative in how you expand and enjoy your yard. But before you get to work in your yard, you must first identity what type of “backyarder” you are. Then, you can keep that idea in mind to create a more purposeful outdoor space that is customized to your family’s needs.

Here are just a few of the backyarding personality types. Which one(s) are you?

Entertainer Extraordinaire
Your backyard was the neighborhood hot spot long before the pandemic made that trend posh. Family milestones, birthdays, graduations, reunions, socially distanced BBQs – your yard is *the* place to gather. Your yard is set up for success with patio furniture, fire pit, yard games, plenty of outdoor seating, string lights, and maybe even an outdoor kitchen.  The family yard and community park are five-star event spaces that are always easy to book!

Environmentalist
You know that nature starts in your own backyard and that taking small steps in your yard can make a big impact on climate change. As the proverbial Robin to your yard’s Batman, you embrace your role in supporting the superhero powers of your living landscape. Those include capturing and filtering rainwater, producing oxygen, and absorbing carbon, just to name a few.

Expert Landscaper
Your yard makes neighbors green with envy. You know how to maintain a healthy living landscape all year long, and you have the latest outdoor power equipment to make even big jobs easier. Your idea of a good time? Spending the weekend doing yardwork. You love the sense of accomplishment that comes from working in your yard, and friends can count on you for advice about their own living landscapes.

Horticulturist
The USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map is bookmarked on your browser because putting the right plant in the right place is the living landscape Golden Rule you live by. You consider location, maintenance, sunlight and watering requirements, as well as your climate zone and lifestyle needs, before you even think about sticking your shovel in the dirt.

Kid Zone Creator
You know the safest place for your kids to be is in your own backyard, and you work hard to create an outdoor fun zone they will never want to leave. A flat area of sturdy turfgrass to play sports and pitch a tent? Check. Treehouse? Check. Zipline strung safely between backyard trees? Check. An elevated garden where kids can help grow the family’s meals? Check. Natural playscapes, like a patch of sand bordered by rocks and log stump seating? Check. “Fun” is your middle name, and you are winning at this game.

Nature Lover
No binging Netflix for you. You subscribe to “Nature TV” and prefer to spend your free time watching the birds, bats, butterflies and other wildlife that count on your yard for food and shelter. You cultivate a living landscape that supports a rich biodiversity with butterfly bushes, flowering plants, water sources, and trees and shrubs with nooks for nesting and food.

Pet Pamperer
Your focus is on Fido, and you take cues from your four-legged friends about how to purpose your backyard. You’ve planted sturdy turfgrass like Buffalo or Bermuda that can stand up to pet play, and you’ve used soft foliage to create a natural barricade between “off limits” areas and the rest of the lawn. Trees and shrubs are strategically planted for shade, and you’ve even set up a shallow water feature to help your pup cool off on hot days. For you, planting with purpose means keeping toxic plants out of the picture. (For a complete list, visit ASPCA’s list of non-toxic and toxic plants.

Work (and learn!) from Home Warrior
You don’t need to turn to technology to create a virtual backdrop for your video calls. The natural setting created by your yard’s trees, flowers, bushes and other plants is your go-to video call background. Your kids aren’t doing in-person school? No problem. Your backyard or neighborhood park is a living laboratory for learning that supports outdoor learning, even when school isn’t in session. Your kids take online classes under the shade of a tree. Do homework at a patio or picnic table. Brush up on STEM education by planting and studying flowers, bug hunting, and weather watching.

Zen Master
Enjoying your morning coffee on the balcony as songbirds serenade you. Meditating under the shade of a tree. De-stressing by swinging in a backyard hammock. Taking a break from your busy day to feel the sun on your face and the breeze in your hair. Your backyard is your sacred space for rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation. It’s the best “green spa” in town. You know that spending time outside is good for your health and well-being and that, thanks to your yard, these benefits are only steps away.

Setting the stage for backyarding. One final and important note to backyarders of all kinds. Creating a yard that supports all of the aspects of your family’s outdoor lifestyle means taking stock of what you might need to care for your lawn. Take an inventory of your outdoor power equipment to make sure you are prepared. Then, get out there and create your canvas for even more backyard memory-making.

Sports Innovation Lab × Sceenic

Sceenic, a leading software solutions provider for real-time experiences, has been named a Game Changer in the growing Co-Watch trend in the latest Sports Innovation Lab Power Play Index.

Sports Innovation Lab’s Power Play Index for the Fluid Fan Behavior of Co-Watch identifies those companies that are best positioned to create immersive viewing experiences for fans at home. Sceenic is the only Game Changer in the index, which charts the top 10 technology providers that offer co-watch solutions in the market.

The Power Play Index ranks companies in two categories:

  • Technology Alignment: determined through a company’s signal score as it relates to watch parties, video chat, and voice chat.
  • Market Validation: determined through a company’s signal score as it relates to leagues, venues, people, and partners.

“When we publish a Power Play Index, we let the data do the talking. Our methodology identifies companies with both the market validation and technology depth that allows them to enable the Fluid Fan,” said Josh Walker, Co-founder and President of Sports Innovation Lab. “Sceenic is our Co-Watching Game Changer for 2020, proving that powerful co-watching technology isn’t the future, but the present.”

Sceenic is identified as the highest-ranking company for each measure due to the seamless turnkey nature of its offering for video, OTT, IPTV or STB providers, and the ease of integration for the Sceenic Watch Together SDKs and APIs into existing platforms with customization. The report also noted Sceenic’s partners and the experiences that they power in the market for clients such as BT Sport (UK), NPO (NL), ScreenHits TV (EU and US), LaLiga (ES), among others.

Key facts:

  • Sports Innovation Lab focused their recent fan behavior research on “Co-watch” presented in the Power Play Index. Getting fans to watch sports content – a live game, a recorded stream, or highlights – is simply getting them to show up. To keep Fluid Fans hooked, to get them coming back more frequently, and for longer periods of time, sports organizations must enable them to learn more about the sport and the athletes. When fans learn, they dive deeper into storylines, get invested in matchups, and come back again and again because they have a greater appreciation for the sport. When fans watch more, revenue opportunities from sponsorships, as well as ancillary behaviors like shopping merchandise or betting, increase
  • Sceenic is a leader in proving co-watch solutions to enhance the fan experience inside their clients’ platforms. Sceenic created the Watch Together software solution in 2013 to provide Broadcast, Telcos and Media companies with an engaging experience inside their platforms. The technology is available to be quickly deployed for video, OTT, IPTV or STB providers to integrate into their existing platforms
  • Sceenic was the first company, in 2019, to showcase and offer the Watch Together software solution on 5G
  • EE (the UK Telco) launched Matchday Experience on the BT Sport app in October 2020, with all BT Sport customers able to access the service from January 2021
  • BT Sport’s Watch Together is available on all broadcast content, 24/7 and on all devices (mobile, tablets, TV)
  • Powered by Sceenic during the 2020 Tour de France, NPO, the Netherlands Public Broadcaster enabled their users to meet the former cyclist Michael Boogerd inside their NPO Start web platform to share insights, answer questions and take online selfies with fans.

“Seven years in development and refinement, our Watch Together technology stack is proving its worth in large scale deployments with BT Sport, T-Mobile Germany, NPO – Tour de France and others,” said Paul Bojarski, CEO, Sceenic. “What is now exciting is seeing how Watch Together actively supports our customers’ business objectives: the organic multiplier effect it brings to subscriber acquisition and retention, the powerful compliment of C2C word of mouth recommendations to machine learning, and the emergence of wholly original in-room interactive marketing/advertising opportunities.”

OXYGEN: A SECRET WEAPON FOR FITNESS?

Expert Offers Insight into the “Oxygen-Enhanced Exercise” Trend & Shares Breathing Tips to Improve Health & Enhance Your Workout

Have you seen anyone at your gym wearing unusual face masks as they workout? If not, you are sure to encounter this soon and when you do, there is no need for alarm. It’s called oxygen-enhanced exercise, and it’s a holistic approach to fitness that has recently skyrocketed in popularity. Once available and common only with Olympians and pro athletes (like Tiger Woods, Michael Phelps, and Mario Lemieux,) this training method has hit the mainstream and now at-home-exercisers and workout warriors across the country are using it as an all-natural way to gain an athletic advantage.

Oxygen-enhanced exercise is a scientifically proven phenomenon that’s said to benefit the body by reducing the physical stress of exercise, accelerating recovery, helping you sleep, giving you more energy, and improving your metabolism.

According to breathing expert Michael Grant White, oxygen is crucial for peak athletic performance.

“Playing sports, weight-lifting, circuit training, or any other intense physical activity, of course, burns calories and builds muscle, but many people don’t consider the wear and tear it has on their body. Lack of oxygen ages the body at a much greater rate…”

…says White, who has studied breathing over the past 24 years and has seen a rapid rise in interest for oxygen-enhanced exercise. As anti-doping initiatives spread across the country, and athletic drug testing becomes more prevalent, many athletes are turning to oxygen-enhanced exercise as a way to amplify their workouts without the use of drugs, chemicals, surgery, or invasive techniques.

We all know oxygen and exercise go hand-in-hand, but in case you missed this high school biology lesson, here’s a quick recap of the science: During exercise, your muscles have to contract and work harder, which increases their demand for oxygen. The amount needed is much more than you are taking in. Your body first burns the existing oxygen in the red blood cells and when this runs out, the body turns to fermentation for its energy needs. Instead of using oxygen, the muscles convert glucose into lactic acid and this is when fatigue sets in. Oxygen-enhanced exercise leverages the body’s already-existing system for oxygenating the blood before this happens.

If you’re not ready to sport an oxygen mask, you can still enhance your workout through mindful breathing. According to research, proper breathing should be one of your main focuses during exercise. It’s easy to underestimate just how much it impacts our overall health and fitness. Oxygen helps the body maintain pH balance, it increases neuronal energy metabolism in the brain, detoxifies the blood, and strengthens the immune system by killing harmful bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Oxygen also plays a huge role in the recovery process because it helps restore pre-exercise ATP levels and helps your liver break down lactic acid into simple carbohydrates.

“Not all breathing is created equal, there are breathing techniques you can do to enhance your workout…”

…says White who has trained athletes to use proper breathing techniques and seen first-hand how better breathing can help strengthen endurance, lower lactic acid production, and improve stamina for cardio-centric activities (like running, swimming, biking, etc.) In addition, simple breathing techniques can help athletes (at any level of fitness) recover more quickly from high-intensity activities.

In short: better breathing = better health.

Michael Grant White is on a mission to awaken the breathing consciousness of the world. He has insight into the oxygen-enhanced exercise trend and can share breathing tips people can use at home to improve their health and their workout.

Jordan Hollywood Releases The Video for “Finally”

Just recently, the 25-year old rapper-singer-songwriter and Broward Country native Jordan Hollywood releases his music video for “Finally,” which is the title track off his Quality Music Control Music debut EP FINALLY.

Watch the video HERE and listen to the EP HERE

In “Finally,” Jordan continues his trend of having cinematic visuals working with his longtime video director Christian Breslauer. The opening scene finds him in the center of a storm. This symbolizes Jordan’s feelings about people who betrayed him. He was hurt but instead of dwelling he channels that energy into hustling harder. The final scene displays half the room waking up from a slumber, which symbolizes people are finally starting to notice Jordan Hollywood.

“Finally” has so many different emotions for me. These built up emotions turned me into a new person. People counted me out. People turned their backs on me. People have been sleeping on me my whole career. Now people are finally waking up,” said Jordan on the video.

Jordan also recently released the music videos for “Leave Me” and “Let Me Find Out” which features Lil Baby. The video gained over a million views within a week of its release and now clocks over 7.5 million views. “Let Me Find Out” is also impacting airwaves as the second most added song at urban radio.

Jordan has been in the game as a co-writer for French Montana, Jason Derulo, and more. He spent time ghost writing for different rappers. Jordan has been releasing music since 2011 as a teenager and has collaborated with Yo Gotti, Lil Baby, Ronny J, Tory Lanez, Lil Durk, Hitmaka, and longtime producers SkipOnDaBeat (G-Eazy, Kodak Black) and platinum record making producer Smash David (Big Sean, Khalid, Chris Brown). Jordan comes from the diverse Broward County, the same area that spawned a slew of rappers from Kodak Black, Smokepurpp, Lil Pump and the late XXXTENTACION.
