Li Heat is Heating Up

By Hannah DiPilato

Breakout rapper Li Heat just dropped a new single featuring Big Yavo called “Titi.” With a funky beat and rhythmic bars, this is a song to add to your hip-hop playlist.

Originally from Birmingham, AL, Li Heat is an up and coming viral rap phenomenon prepared to take over the industry’s new hip-hop wave. Heat knew he wanted to do something out of the ordinary from a young age. Growing up in Birmingham, he began accumulating mild offenses until he was put on house arrest freshman year of high school. After his mischievous younger years he attended boot camp and eventually graduated high school which led to a mundane job at Church’s Chicken. He knew he wanted more than this and began his journey of becoming a rapper.

Heat took note of rappers around him and how successful they were able to become by doing something they loved. He too wanted to be financially stable simply by creating pieces of music he was proud of. Heat’s inspirations include NoCap, Rylo Rodriguez, Tee Grizzley, Luh Soldier, and Lil Baby which shows through in his music. By incorporating the same kinds of lyrics and beats as these rappers, the influence of current-day popular rap shines through. However, he adds enough of his own style to stay bold in the world of rap and is able to stand out among many other breakthrough artists. The sound of his music is recognizable and will draw people in, but unique enough to keep listeners engaged.

Heat began recording music in December 2019 and slowly learned the ways of the studio. His most notable track “007” was released to Spotify on May 27, 2020. This song was an instant viral success and now with over 3 million views on youtube is his biggest single to date. The “rambunctious, trap-flavored, warm tune” brought fame and success to the young rapper. Because of the song’s simple, yet catchy set up, thousands of people became fans of Heat and he now has over 30,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. Popular rappers Young Thug and Gucci Mane also became fans and Heat has since collaborated with them both.

Li Heat’s style is catchy, steady, and will instantly draw in music listeners everywhere. Heat is excited to be working on finishing his debut project, which will exhibit his growth as an artist. The Alabama-bred rapper is on the verge of becoming a hip-hop sensation after only being present in the music industry for not even a year.

Listen to Heat’s new single “Titi” and watch the music video here. Catch up with him on Instagram to see all of his upcoming projects.

Tune In Tonight for Lil Baby’s Performance at Howard U

Rap Life, Apple Music’s industry leading hip-hop playlist, will feature an important and meaningful live event captured on the campus of Howard University – one of the most historic and prestigious HBCU (historically black colleges and universities) in the world. This special live-streamed event aims to further extend the discussion around the many important issues impacting the Black community through open dialogue, important conversations, and the power of music.

Hosted by Apple Music’s global head of Hip-Hop and R&B, Ebro Darden along with Apple Music 1 hosts Nadeska and LowKey, the event will feature intimate conversations and bespoke performances from beloved rappers Lil Baby, Nas, Rapsody and Wale. As the events of 2020 continue to reveal the broken systems within our society, these artists stand out as incredibly passionate and outspoken advocates for their community, using both their music and social influence to promote issues like police reform, racial and gender equality, social justice, and standing up to racism.

“The Rap Life team’s main objective was to use our voice and tools to show support and solidarity with students, artists and activists around the nation rising up to make sure the world knows that Black Lives Matter,” Ebro said “We plan to bring Rap Life Live to more HBCU campuses because these institutions are part of the backbone of Black communities and Hip-Hop is from the Black experience.”

When asked why he wanted to participate, Lil Baby said, “I feel like we got a long way to go. I’d be lying if I said we are getting there. Don’t get me wrong it’s a start, but it’s going to take some time for this to work out.”

Wale said, “Black people need to understand and hear each other, combine our messaging and give it to the world.”

Rapsody said, “our voice is our biggest weapon. You have to speak up for what you want. You have to be the change. Speak to each other. Speak up, let people hear you.”

Nas said, “Whatever is going on in society, affects people. People affect society. And People are going to speak and artists are going to make art.”

Additionally, Rap Life Live will feature sit down interviews with Howard University students – including student association president Rachel Howell, Miss Howard University Taylor Davis and president of the 10for10 organization Peter Lubembela – providing a global platform to empower the next generation of leaders as they discuss how they are working to inspire, educate, unite and uplift their communities.

Lil Baby also hit #1 at urban radio for the 7th time — with his important and powerful single “The Bigger Picture,” hit 20 Billion streams globally, and was named Vevo’s Top Performing Hip Hop Artist of 2020.

All in a week’s work for Lil Baby who is celebrating his many milestones by giving fans the video release of “Forget That (featuring Rylo Rodriguez).” Rodriguez himself is an artist signed to Lil Baby’s 4PF label, where Baby continues to support artists and share his knowledge of being successful while staying authentic and true to himself.

Earlier this year, Lil Baby graced the cover of Rolling Stone; tied Prince and Paul McCartney for Billboard Hot 100 hits; saw his February #1 release of “My Turn” return to the top of the Billboard 200 three months later; spent 5 weeks at #1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart (tying Taylor Swift for most weeks atop the list in 2020). In June, Lil Baby dropped the powerful record, “The Bigger Picture,” articulating frustration, confusion, and a call to stand up for something much bigger than himself.

With such a rapid rise and a relentless stream of critical and commercial hits, it’s clear that Lil Baby is one of the greatest and most important success stories in hip-hop. At 25, has been one of the most dominant and critically acclaimed names in rap since his first release in 2017, and with just 3 years under his belt, it’s clear his run is far from over.

New iann dior Music Video

21-year-old rapper iann dior released a new music video for his song “Prospect” on Tuesday. It can be seen here!

The song features Lil Baby and was featured on Spotify playlists like Rap Caviar, Get Turnt and New Music Friday, all helping to propel it to more than 41 million streams since its May release.

The gorgeously shot video is directed by Omar Jones and inspired by Chinese landscape, architecture and colors to tribute the obvious inspiration to the beat. According to the press release, dior’s plans to tour in Asia were cancelled because of the pandemic, so the music video was his next best choice to show love to his Chinese fans.

“Prospect” is just dior’s latest in a long line of hits in a short period of time. Growing up in Corpus Christi, he quickly learned he was a talented writer and decided to turn that talent into hip-hop music. His first song earned 10,000 streams and caught the attention of Taz Taylor, the founder of Internet Money.

He released “Cutthroat” in 2019 which racked up 13 million streams on SoundCloud. He then inked a deal with 10K Projects, with whom he released his first mixtape titled “nothing’s ever good enough.”

dior gives credit to J. Cole for inspiring him to make music.

“He showed me that I could use songs to tell my own story, just like he uses his songs to tell his story,” dior said.

“Prospect” can be found along with other hits like “Pretty Girls,” “Sick and Tired” and “Paradise” on his new album, “I’m Gone,” which was released in June.

ABOUT FREDO BANG:
With his deep, barking drawl and a natural affinity for melody, Fredo Bang (Fredrick Givens) is the next rhymer to rise out the Bayou. The highs and lows of his life encompass turning down a scholarship at Texas Southern U. in order to study closer to home, and a stiff jail sentence for aggravated battery that was commuted in 2018. At age 23, the Baton Rouge native’s rhymes have now won the South. He has collaborated with everyone from YNW Melly to Moneybagg Yo to Kevin Gates. 2018’s 2 Face Bang mixtape put Fredo on the map with the breakout single “Oouuhh” and a streak of hits including “Shootas on the Roof” and “Father” (over 22 million YouTube views). The street took deeper notice in 2019, with the Big Ape mixtape and a non-stop string of regional single + video hits that included “Oouuh” Remix featuring Kevin Gates, “Gangsta Talk” featuring NLE Choppa, and “Story To Tell” (Remix) featuring Moneybagg Yo. Fredo entered into a partnership with Def Jam in the fall 2019. The hits continued unabated with “Face Down” and “Vest Up,” then “Yo Slime,” and “Waitin 4” (with a beat from Hardbody B-Eazy and DJ Chose). Fredo’s next mixtape, Pain Made Me Numb hit in November, with the single + video releases “Cap A Lot” and “Slidin.” April 2020 brought the back-to-back releases of the single + video “Trust Issues,” and Fredo’s fourth mixtape, Most Hated. Fredo’s next string of new releases, “Receipts,” “Top,” and “Monsters” point the way to his fifth mixtape, In The Name Of Gee, coming soon.
