‘Last Day Of Summer’ Becomes First Sped-Up Album Ever Released By An Artist

Today, Summer Walker revamps her 2018 opus Last Day Of Summer project and releases Last Day Of Summer (Sped Up). The newer version comes after the TikTok success of “Karma,” which saw spikes in streams after fans sped up the older rendition at the start of 2022. TikTok influencer @whereisreese created the viral dance and helped propel the song into new success. The original song, which garnered 250-300k weekly global streams at the beginning of the year, reached a whopping 2 million after LVRN/Interscope Records re-released the sped-up song. “Karma” peaked at 4.1 million global weekly streams and reached gold status in August.

Other Summer songs which have found similar success after being sped up on TikTok and YouTube include “Shame,” “Deep,” and her Billboard smash hit “Girls Need Love (Remix)” featuring Drake. The latter began catching traction when Kehlani expressed her joy in the sped-up version, dubbing it her “new favorite sound.” Last Day of Summer is officially the first sped-up album to be released and is a result of the singer listening to her devoted fanbase, who found pleasure in revisiting her classic but in a newer way. 

Last August, Summer released her Amazon Music Live EP Summer Series. The five-track offering includes live performances of fan-favorite Summer records, including “Over It,” “Playing Games,” “Session 32,” “Throw It Away,” and “Unloyal.” 

Summer has enjoyed a string of stellar performances over the last few months, beginning with her sold-out concert, A Hot Summer Night, last June. ABOUT QUAVO

Along with bringing trap to the masses as one-third of Migos, rapper/producer Quavo brings his triplet flows and personalized style to his solo releases and a multitude of other artists’ tracks as a featured guest. His 2018 solo album Quavo Huncho rose to the number two spot on the Billboard charts, and he appeared as a guest on several songs that did time in the Top Ten, including hits from Drake, Justin Bieber, and Post Malone. Quavo frequently releases new material in the form of non-album singles, including songs like 2020’s “Too Blessed,” 2021’s “Strub Tha Ground,” and 2022’s “Hotel Lobby.

Quavo was born Quavious Marshall in 1991 and grew up in Lawrenceville, Georgia. Alongside Offset (his cousin) and Takeoff (his nephew), he helped form Migos in 2009 and they released their first mixtapes, Juug Season in 2011 and No Label in 2012. (No Label went on to receive a sequel in 2014.) However, it wasn’t until the release of the track “Versace” from their 2013 mixtape, Young Rich N*ggas, that they came to full prominence. The song was a breakout hit, receiving further exposure when Drake produced a remix. In 2014, Quavo was named “most influential rapper” by the online hip-hop community Complex Music. In subsequent years, he appeared on further releases with Migos, most notably their full-length albums Yung Rich Nation (2015) and C U L T U R E (2017). He also appeared on tracks like “Champions” for Kanye West‘s GOOD Music label and performed alongside Young Thug on 2016’s “Fuck Cancer,” and on 2017’s “Go Off” with Travis Scott and Lil Uzi Vert for the Fate of the Furious movie soundtrack. Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho, a collaborative project with Travis Scott, was also released in 2017. The following year, Quavo released a series of solo singles, including “Workin Me” and “Bubble Gum.” Those tracks found their way onto his official solo debut, Quavo Huncho, which arrived in October 2018. The album featured guests such as Drake, Travis Scott, Kid Cudi, 21 Savage, Offset, Takeoff, and even Madonna. Quavo continued adding flare to other artists’ singles with featured verses over the next few years, appearing on tracks by E-40, Don Toliver, Iggy Azalea, Major Lazer, 2 Chainz, and many others. In 2018, Quavo was featured on DJ Khaled‘s “No Brainer,” which peaked at number five on the charts, and in 2020 he was featured on another track that hit that mark with his contributions to Justin Bieber‘s single “Intentions.” He also issued several singles of his own, including the 2021 song “Strub Tha Ground,” featuring Yung Miami. The following year saw Quavo team up with Takeoff on the singles “Hotel Lobby”, “Us vs Them” ft. Gucci Mane, and most recently “Big Stunna” ft. Birdman.

ABOUT TAKEOFF

Takeoff is the youngest member of trap trendsetters Migos, whose songs “Versace” and “Bad and Boujee” became major streaming hits, and whose 2017 sophomore album, Culture, topped the pop charts in both the U.S. and Canada. Along with his contributions to Migos, Takeoff released his solo full-length debut, The Last Rocket in 2018, along with singles like the 2022 Rich the Kid collaboration “Crypto.”

Born Kirshnik Khari Ball on June 18, 1994 in Lawrenceville, Georgia, Takeoff started Migos in 2009 with family members Quavo and Offset in a bid to escape the ghetto cycle of poverty and crime. Their breakthrough single, “Versace,” came out in 2013; the album Yung Rich Nation followed in 2015, and Culture came two years later. Takeoff’s non-appearance on the album’s 2016 lead single, “Bad and Boujee,” caused a minor Internet controversy; he brushed it off, claiming he was simply unavailable for the recording session. In May of 2017, he released his first solo track, “Intruder.” Takeoff occasionally appeared solo as a featured performer on tracks by other artists, including Jose Guapo, Chill Will, and, most notably, Calvin Harris, on the song “Holiday” from the Scottish producer’s 2017 album Funk Wav Bounces, Vol. 1.

Migos’ third album, the lengthy, 24-track Culture II, was released in January 2018. Takeoff made his own full-length debut in November of that year with The Last Rocket, which debuted in the Top Four on both the R&B/hip-hop chart and the Billboard 200. Appearances on various singles followed over the next few years, including featured roles alongside Rich the Kid on “Too Blessed” and YRN Lingo on “All Time High,” both released in 2020. In 2022 he reunited with Rich the Kid for woozy recent single “Crypto” and teamed up with Quavo on the new singles “Hotel Lobby”, “Us vs Them” ft. Gucci Mane, and “Big Stunna” ft. Birdman.

R&B streaming supernova Summer Walker is back to release her Amazon Music Live EP Summer Series. After being nominated for the Billboard Music Awards and BET Awards, Summer earned another nomination at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. Nominated for Best R&B Video, Summer’s R&B scorcher “No Love (Extended Version)” featuring Cardi B and SZA sits at 19 million on YouTube and remains a contender for song of the year in the R&B space. 

In its original form with Summer Walker and SZA, “No Love” instantly lit up charts upon its debut last November. The song surged to No. 1 on Apple Music’s U.S. Top 100 chart and, though it wasn’t an official single at the time, also debuted at No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 to become Summer Walker‘s highest-charting hit. The collab appears on Summer’s Still Over It, which broke the record for the album for the most one-week streams ever by a female R&B artist and was the first R&B album by a female act to top the Billboard 200 since 2016. Those achievements led Summer to be honored with the Chartbreaker Award at Billboard’s annual Women in Music.

Milk + Cookies is thrilled to announce Atlanta-based rap artist and record executive Gucci Mane and DJ, producer and singer Alison Wonderland as the headliners for the spring Block Fest. The headliners will be joined by DJ collectives WERC Crew and Perreo404, with more local and national acts to be announced. With an expected guest count of over 5,000 attendees, Milk + Cookies Atlanta will blend various music genres, tasty food selections, and creative activities to curate a meaningful, multi-sensory experience for Atlanta’s flourishing creative community. Milk + Cookies Atlanta will take place outdoors Saturday, June 4, 2022, at Atlanta’s famed Centennial Yards from 2-10 PM.

The dessert-themed music festival’s venue is a cultural hub in the heart of Atlanta in between the State Farm Arena and the Mercedes Benz Dome. Attendees will be treated to a diverse musical lineup; headlined by Atlanta’s own Gucci Mane and directly supported by national and local talent. Singer/Songwriter NO1-NOAH (Ghetto Earth Records/Interscope Records) kicks off his next era with the release of his new single, “Bonjour,” with his label head, R&B superstar Summer Walker. The melodic slow jam showcases the New York native at his best, blending effortlessly between layers of enticing sensuality, raw vulnerability and self-assured confidence. Summer, of course, brings the trademark honeyed vocals that fueled her to billions of career streams and multiple Billboard records in the last year. “Bonjour” previews NO1-NOAH’s forthcoming EP, You Should Come Over, which will be released on April 22.

After displaying beams of promise on Walker’s sizzling anthems, NO1-NOAH inked a deal with her label Ghetto Earth Records in December 2020. Her first artist, NO1 looks to rattle the cages of R&B with his emo-leaning tracks and sticky hooks. His debut record, “Ridin For My Love,” flaunted his pillowy vocals and gutsy lyrics, the follow-up “Bounce” presented a seductive side, and his melodic muscles were on full display with his anthemic banger “Thank God.” Not only did the records demonstrate his versatility and ease at mastering a range of sounds and styles, they also skyrocketed the newcomer to more than 130 million streams in the U.S. alone. The budding star has also been on the road for “The Summer Walker Series” concerts. Most recently in Houston and Chicago and will next visit Dallas on April 16.

The promising songwriter was named one of Billboard’s 15 Hip-Hop & R&B Artists to Watch in 2020. The reigning queens of R&B, streaming supernova Summer Walker and chart-topper SZA, announce Grammy-winning artist Cardi B will appear on a new version for their hit single, “No Love” (LVRN/Interscope Records) coming this Friday. Summer confirmed the news on Instagram, days after she hinted at a third performer by suggesting that the single artwork represented each woman’s Zodiac birth sign. Savvy fans quickly jumped on Cardi B as the leading candidate, and the two jumped on an Instagram Live to celebrate the news in front of their combined 130 million followers. In its original form, “No Love” instantly lit up charts around the world upon its debut last November. The song surged to No. 1 on Apple Music’s U.S. Top 100 chart and became the first song to dethrone Adele’s long-standing champ “Easy on Me.” Plus, though it wasn’t an official single at the time, “No Love” debuted at No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 to become Summer Walker’s highest-charting hit. The collab appears on Summer’s Still Over It, which broke the record for the album for the most one-week streams ever by a female R&B artist, with 201.1 million in its debut week, and was the first R&B album by a female act to top the Billboard 200 albums chart since 2016. Those achievements, along with 18 Hot 100 hits from the project, powered Summer to be honored with the Chartbreaker Award at Billboard’s annual Women in Music celebration earlier this month.

SZA, too, is also riding high with her own hit streak. The multi-platinum singer’s “I Hate U” has jumped from a fan-favorite Soundcloud release to the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.  Among its feats, it entered at #1 on both Spotify and Apple Music US charts and broke the record for the most streamed R&B song by a female artist on Apple Music in its first week.  In addition to that certified smash, the virtuoso also racked up two more top 10 Hot 100 hits in 2021 thanks to the 3x-platinum hit “Good Days” and by assisting Doja Cat on the summer banger, “Kiss Me More.”

The extended version reunites Cardi B musically with both ladies. She and SZA teamed up on “I Do” from Cardi’s Grammy-winning Invasion of Privacy album, while she and Summer collaborated on “Bitter,” which generated a wave of social media attention for its subject matter and the rapper’s spoken-word advice affirmations. The pairing was just one of her highlights of 2021, a year that included her landing a fifth No. 1 Hot 100 hit with “Up,” a nominee for the Grammy Award for best rap performance at next month’s ceremony. The superstar also recently secured her third RIAA-certified diamond single (“I Like It”), tying for the most by any female artist in history.
