House of One Q×A

Brittany Farinas fiercely and fashionably has entered the world of interior design. The designer of both residential and commercial spaces resides in South Florida, where she launched her company, House of One. After graduating from the University of Miami with a degree in interior design, Farinas utilized her life-long passion to help others beautify their spaces. Streamlined, sleek, and polished, Farinas has an impeccable eye for style that makes her stand out. 360 Magazine spoke with the designer about her favorite interior aesthetics, House of One’s recent blog launch, and upcoming projects.

When did you first get into designing residential and commercial spaces?

About four years ago.

What type of look does House of One try to imbue in its clients spaces?

I try to make each of my client’s spaces very much a reflection of who they are, while creating a visually exciting yet timeless look. At House of One, we strive on creating unique spaces with bold moments.

How would you describe your personal favorite interior aesthetic?

My personal design aesthetic is minimal eclectic. I love sculptural elements in a space and I have a great appreciation for luxurious textures. When it comes to designing an interior space for myself- I like to neutralize the primary pieces (larger furniture items such as sofas, tables, cabinetry) and add character in secondary pieces (i.e accent chairs, pillows, accessories, accent lighting).

What visual design software does House of One utilize?

We use AutoCAD, SketchUp, and multiple rendering softwares.

What is the most important thing to consider when designing an interior space?

The most important thing to consider when designing spaces for our clients is to envision exactly how they will use their space daily and how the space will evolve through time.

How does designing a residential space differ from designing a commercial space?

When designing a commercial space, it’s about promoting the brand image and creating a setting for productivity and growth for the company as a whole. It’s necessary to be conscious of how multiple groups of people might be using the space- whereas designing for a residential client is more specific and lifestyle driven. While designing residential and commercial spaces are targeted towards a different end goal, both need to be extremely functional while aesthetically pleasing.

On your website, I saw that you are launching a blog. That is so exciting! What type of content will be published on House of One’s blogspace?

Yes! I am extremely excited about the blog as well. This will be a place where I can elaborate more on the projects in different categories. For example, we will have a section labeled “Project Tours” where you will be able to get an in depth look at some of our recently completed work. I’ll also be featuring posts on different trends, and a behind the scenes look of our design process.

Where do you find interior design inspiration?

I find inspiration everywhere I go. However, I’ve always been inspired by fashion. When I go eat at restaurants I can’t help but touch the different fabrics and materials. I have always been so curious that way.

Did you always have an eye for detail, or are there ways in which you’ve sharped your interior design vision over time?

I would say I’ve always had an eye for detail. My mom worked at a furniture store when I was about the age of 3-15. I spent a lot of days with her hanging around the showroom. I always gravitated towards certain colors/details. At a young age I was very opinionated about what I liked and didn’t like when it came to design. Over time, I feel my eye for design has definitely evolved, and I know it will keep doing so over time. I think it’s just a part of life and growing as a person and designer.

Are there any exciting projects coming up for House of One that you can speak about?

Yes! We’re currently working on a 8500 square-foot office space that we’re all really excited about- the palette is gorgeous. We’ve also been working on restoring a Mediterranean home in Miami Beach, which will be completed in about two months. This project is very special for us, and we’re excited to get this one styled and photographed soon.

Interview With Graham and Brown

Graham & Brown was founded by Harold Graham and Henry Brown in 1946 during a paper shortage. Today, they sell wallpaper that spices up spaces and and helps people turn houses into homes. I spoke with Paula Taylor, Graham & Brown’s Color & Trend Specialist about what Graham & Brown does, and what trends we expect from them going forward.

Does Graham & Brown do custom designs for homes or individuals?

Yes, both.

Where can someone find/purchase Graham and Brown?

On this website.

When will the next Graham & Brown collection or design be released? Can you give us any hints as to what it will look like?

Graham & Brown will release their next Color of the Year and Wallpaper of Year in September 2021–stay tuned!

Where do you find inspiration for new designs?

We have a vast 30,000-piece archive that we often look back to for inspiration for future pieces. It is really great for understanding how trends have changed and will continue to change moving forward. We also do extensive trend research and have various stories that we work to refresh and update every four to six months. [By] keep[ing] them as relevant and forward thinking as possible, [it] helps us capture any satellite trends that emerge.

What are some of the most popular designs Graham & Brown has created?

Boreas has been a popular design choice, tapping into the botanical look that has always been prevalent, but has taken on a new lease of life in recent months. This [popularity] has been highlighted through the biophilia trend of bringing the outside in. Other customer favorites are geometrics such as Palais–elegantly simple with a nod to the Art Deco, rounded styling we are seeing more of.

Can you tell us what styles and trends are popping up for the summer?

Whilst there has been a growing trend for feature walls, we are also seeing more people wallpapering all four walls to make a real statement. organThe latest trend is for the ceiling to be wallpapered too, furthering that statement look. By papering the ceiling, the edges of the room appear to blur, and you create a cozy feel that appears limitless.

We are also seeing trends that can help reduce stress, such as balance and geometry, [due to] a need to create order in these uncertain times. Simplified structures and architectural references with a repetitive pattern will calm the senses and bring order to the chaos, [as] comfort is found in the routine.

The biophilia trend will remain key for summer as we see organic imagery taking over. It brings the outside in and connects us with natural elements. This connection is of ever-increasing importance to our health and wellbeing in urban society. Research has shown that even indirect elements of nature help reduce stress, blood pressure and heart rates, as well as promote wellbeing.

Next time you are looking to re-do your home, office, apartment, or even dorm room, think of Graham & Brown and check out their website!

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN’S NEXT ERA

Last week, Marvel announced that a team of superstar writers will assemble this October for a brand new run of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN. Zeb Wells, Kelly Thompson, Saladin Ahmed, Cody Ziglar, and Patrick Gleason have crafted a saga beyond anything that’s come before in Spider-Man history, and the soon-to-be thrice-monthly series will boast an all-star team of amazing artists. Writer/artist Patrick Gleason will be the bedrock of the team, leading the design and doing the art on the over-sized milestone issue AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #75. Joining him will be acclaimed artist Sara Pichelli, the co-creator of Miles Morales doing her first work on Amazing Spider-Man, as well as Michael Dowling, known for his incredible work on Black Cat. In addition, comic book legend Arthur Adams will grace this epic run with his amazing artwork on each and every cover. And this is just the tip of the iceberg for the legends who will be bringing this revolutionary epic to you!

Here’s what Editor Nick Lowe had to say about this upcoming era:

“When we started building ‘Beyond’ we knew we had to pull out all the stops from the artistic side. That began with making sure Patrick Gleason was with us from the get-go as a writer AND an artist. His recent webhead covers have rocked the industry showing yet another element to the incredible career that we all saw on display during his run on Amazing Spider-Man. He quickly stepped up to be our artistic cornerstone, but we also needed to make sure that whoever else joined him were elite talents.

“Sara Pichelli is an absolute legend, creating some of the most impactful work of the last ten years. It’s crazy to think this will be her first time drawing Amazing Spider-Man, and she’s already blown us away with her masterful work. Michael Dowling’s work on Unfollow and other works got him hired for Black Cat, but his work there showed us that he would be an absolute superstar, and his issues are already blowing our minds. And then, to be able to land Arthur Adams as our cover artist. I mean, from his classic X-Men Annuals to today, Arthur has defined the Marvel Universe visually as much as almost anyone. So to have him here? I’m beyond excited. And wait until we reveal the rest of our all-star roster!”

Don’t forget to check out FREE COMIC BOOK DAY 2021: SPIDER-MAN/VENOM on August 14th for your first glimpse at what’s to come in this exciting new age of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN! Check out upcoming covers, variant covers, and artwork from the first three series artists and stay tuned for more information, including the grand reveal of the main cover for AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #75! Desenio Pastel Paradise

NEW SS21 INTERIOR TRENDS: INTRODUCING PASTEL PARADISE

This week, Desenio is launching the third of its four key trends for SS21. Inject some color and happiness into your life with the Pastel Paradise trend, an aesthetic that focuses on creating delight and an element of surprise through pastel color blocking and self-expression. Here are some tips for bringing the Pastel Paradise trend to life.

MAKE IT JOYFUL

“This trend brings much-needed happiness to our homes, focusing on playful, pastel colors in home decor and art,” says Desenio’s Executive Creative Director, Annica Wallin.

Pastel colors have been scientifically proven to have an uplifting effect on your mood. Bring joy and spontaneity to your home by choosing pastel posters, focusing on imagery that makes you happy, and sprucing up your space. The Pastel Paradise trend incorporates prints with joyful colors to surprise and delight.

DARE TO BE CREATIVE

“Changing posters in your home to new colors is a very easy way to give your home a new look,” says Annica Wallin.

Don’t be afraid to take risks in your choices: a beautifully playful effect is created when you have the freedom to choose posters and home accessories in a variety of pastel shades and forms. Mix graphic art with other styles in soft tones to create your own pastel paradise.

BRING A HINT OF THE 80S

“Influences from the 80s pastel color palette bring a sense of nostalgia from a time that was fun and carefree,” says Annica Wallin.

Indulge in creative self-expression with the use of bold colors and styles. The Pastel Paradise trend updates neon hues for 2021, giving them a softer, more palatable tint. It’s up to you how you incorporate these colors into your space: be bold and make them a key color scheme or use them as subtle accents in your home.

Immersive Van Gogh

Lighthouse ArtSpace Chicago, a brand new venue in Chicago’s Germania Club will open Feb. of 2021.

The recently renovated building will open to the U.S. premiere of Immersive Van Gogh. The building’s Victorian Era, 35-foot-tall walls will show off art exhibitions that completely encapsulate an audience, blurring the lines between entertainment and culture, art and blockbuster creation.

Immersive Van Gogh received rave reviews from critics and a wide array of audiences in Toronto, as it allowed them to step inside the iconic, emotional, imaginative artist Vincent Van Gogh.

The Toronto Sun called Immersive Van Gogh “intense and emotional, cathartic and liberating” while Debra Yeo of the Toronto Star said,  “I wondered: could projections of paintings on walls and floors be thrilling? The answer is yes.”

More than 180,000 guests were able to see the exhibition in July 2020, and it passed worldwide ticket sales for any of Ticketmaster’s live cultural events.

Tickets will be available beginning Nov. 23 at 11 a.m. CST. You can find them by clicking right here, or you can call (844) 307-4644. Admission begins at $39.99, or $24.99 for children 16 years old or younger.

The tickets will be for viewings from Feb. 11 to May 2, and parking is available at the James House parking garage, conveniently located nearby.

Given the world’s current state of affairs, the experience also makes health and safety a priority, as admissions will align with Chicago’s capacity guidelines.

Tickets will also be taken contact-free, temperatures will be taken upon arrival and hand sanitizer stations will be open. Markers throughout the exhibit will also remind guests to socially distant as they get sucked into the world of Van Gogh. Face masks will be required.

The same Italian creative team that pioneered Atelier des Lumières will create a design custom to the exhibition’s home in Chicago.

The exhibition was designed by Massimiliano Siccardi, an Italian film producer, with help from composer Luca Longobardi, who delivers a score that combines electronic music with piano, blending modern and classic tones to evoke the perfect tone for the experience. Vittorio Guidotti is the art director.

Siccardi and Longobardi created the Van Gogh, Starry Night exhibition together, setting them up for Immersive Van Gogh, which features more than 50 projectors that cover more than 14,000 square-feet.

Siccardi said Van Gogh has created a lasting emotional impact despite going relatively unknown while he was alive.

“Both myself and Luca Longobardi are very excited to visit Chicago and once again bring Van Gogh’s legacy to life in a way that is unique to the beautiful architecture of the Germania Club Building,” Siccardi said.

Some of the most notable pieces featured include Self Portrait with Felt Hat, The Bedroom in Arles, Irises and The Starry Night.

Corey Ross, the co-producer of Immersive Art Space, said Immersive Van Gogh is a new way to consume art from all directions.

“Both connoisseurs and new admirers of Van Gogh’s work are guaranteed a breathtaking perspective on the influential artist’s oeuvre,” Ross said. “Merging state-of-the-art technology, theatrical storytelling, animation and some of the finest works of art ever created, Immersive Van Gogh is a uniquely mesmerizing experience that seemingly transports the viewer into the artist’s mind to see these timeless works as never before.

Graham & Brown Announces Wallpaper and Color of 2021

GRAHAM & BROWN ANNOUNCES WALLPAPER AND COLOR OF THE YEAR 2021

Each year, the UK’s leading wallpaper and paint specialists, Graham & Brown, announces its Wallpaper of the Year and Color of the Year. Drawing upon seventy five years of design and manufacturing experience in the field, the in-house design studio identifies key movements in the interiors sector and forecasts the future trends that will shape the Graham & Brown collections for the coming months.

Launching the 2021 collection from its design headquarters in Blackburn in a globally streamed digital showcase, the heritage brand presented Wallpaper of the Year: Timepiece and Color of the Year: Epoch, an expert fusion of archive material and contemporary components.

GRAHAM & BROWN WALLPAPER OF THE YEAR 2021: TIMEPIECE AMETHYST
Full of movement, color, and exuberance, the Graham & Brown Wallpaper of the Year marks the start of the 75 Anniversary celebrations of the brand which will run throughout 2021. Piecing together fragments from the Graham & Brown archive, Timepiece is an amalgamation of prints dating from 1946 to the present day. The result is a bold, innovative wallpaper that represents the essence of the Graham & Brown design philosophy.

Timepiece evokes an environment that is opulent, glamorous, and indulgent. Reminiscent of the lavish blooms and tangled stems of Dutch flower painting, the rich, jewel-toned color palette is enlivened with flashes of sunlit petals and vividly striped tulips. Hyacinth florets form an inviting textural juxtaposition to the large-scale arrangements featuring elegant magnolia blooms.
In addition to the Amethyst colorway, Timepiece is also available in Moonstone and Midnight palettes. For the first time ever the design can also be produced as a made-to-measure bespoke Mural of the Year: Timepiece, highlighting just how far wall covering production has developed from the fixed repeat surface print machines of 1946.

The Wallpaper of the Year and Color of the Year are shining examples Graham & Brown’s perfectly partnered paint and wallpaper offerings. Each wallpaper in the extensive Graham & Brown collection is mirrored by a perfectly matched hero paint color and three coordinating hues for a complimentary full room solution. Complementing the Wallpaper of the Year is the Color of the Year: Epoch, along with partnering shades Spiced Mulberry, Fondue, and Whale Tail.

“Design innovation has always been the driving force and the heartbeat of Graham & Brown throughout the years. The studio team love to delve into the pattern and print archives and discover hidden treasures that we can then reimagine with modern production techniques and new color compositions, presenting a twist on the latest interior trends. A great deal of craftsmanship goes into the making of each archive artwork and we believe that is something to be cherished and celebrated,to be able to breathe new life into this material and let it have a new place within our history is something we love to do.”

-Maryanne Cartwright, Design Studio Manager at Graham & Brown

GRAHAM & BROWN COLOR OF THE YEAR 2021: EPOCH

To complement the Timepiece wallpaper design, Graham & Brown has announced its Color of the Year 2021: Epoch. A directional shade of plum, Epoch pinpoints the richest purple tone in the Timepiece wallpaper and amplifies it, channeling the revelry, regality, and luxury associated with the shade. A calming, cocooning tone, Epoch echoes a wider interior trend which looks to create restful spaces for healthier, happier homes.

“Time is an overarching theme that winds its way through each thread of our 2021 Trends Forecast. As the world we live in continues to shift and evolve at an ever-increasing rate, we look toward the future through the lens of nostalgia. We’ve explored how the future has been envisioned throughout history and how time is often considered the most precious commodity of all. Both Timepiece and Epoch contemplate on the passing of time and what can be discovered should we embrace the opportunity to recharge, reflect, and rediscover our history.”

-Paula Taylor, Color & Trends Specialist at Graham & Brown

Abby Hesketh, Product Manager and Paint & Color Specialist at Graham & Brown has shared her expert tips for styling the Graham & Brown Color of the Year: Epoch within the home:

● “Tonal pairings are a great way to make use of rich, expressive shades while still keeping things fairly safe. Epoch works brilliantly when used as a feature wall partnered with lighter hues of lavender and heather – this will soften the impact of the darker color while ensuring that all walls of the room tie together cohesively.

● If drama is your goal, then try pairing Epoch with other equally vivid colors. Partnering Epoch with shades of teal will result in an opulent, peacock-inspired look, while adding pops of peach can shape a playful yet sophisticated space.

● Color-blocking is a creative way to incorporate Epoch into a space. Below you’ll see a super easy geometric design using just three Graham & Brown paints – Epoch, Spiced Mulberry, and B aby Powder; the result is a light and airy feature that would make a fun addition to a kid’s bedroom, playroom, or even a lounge.

● A trend we’ve noticed gathering momentum is pale walls paired with skirting boards and doors painted in a darker shade. This is a great way to highlight the architectural features of a room and adds a cozy element while still building depth and structure as we head into the autumn and winter months. Use Epoch across all the woodwork within a room and pair with either a lighter shade of purple for a sophisticated tonal scheme, or with a mid-grey with warm undertones for lightweight feel.

● Finally, consider creating a drop ceiling effect by using Epoch on the ceiling but then continuing the color down to picture rail height – this is one of my favorite interiors trends and will work well with any of the perfectly partnered Graham & Brown paint shades.”

About Graham & Brown:
For over seventy years, Graham & Brown has inspired people to think differently about their walls through continuous innovation, creativity, and craftsmanship. Founded by two friends – Harold Graham and Henry Brown, the business has been family-run from its Headquarters in Blackburn,Lancashire since 1946. Now the UK’s leading wallpaper manufacturer, Graham & Brown has expanded its collection to include paint, murals, wall art and soft furnishings. Graham & Brown is sold internationally to over seventy-five countries through its divisions in North America, France, Holland, Russia, China and Australia.

Trend Edit: Neon

Every year, designers showcase their latest designs and forecast the next big trends on the catwalk, which we can incorporate into our own clothing collections. Staying up to date with the latest fashion trends can be hugely important, whether you work in fashion or you simply just like to look current!

At the end of 2018, fashion weeks across the world displayed SS19 collections, giving a nod towards some striking trends. One such style you’ve probably seen before, but it’s here to stay in a big way.

The neon trend was a prevalent feature across the board in last year’s catwalk shows, and it’s not going anywhere just yet. Made popular by the likes of Kim Kardashian, high street fashion and luxury fashion houses, neon can now be seen everywhere. So, are you ready to embrace a brighter colour palette this year?

How to wear neon

Neon can be a daunting shade to adopt, but realistically it’s just brightened versions of your favourite colours. Think lime, lemon, tangerine and fuchsia; these are your basic neon colours and you can play around with them as boldly or subtly as you like.

You may want to consider pairing a neon top or trousers with a muted counterpart and simple accessories to ease your way into this top trend. Recent seasons have featured very neutral colour palettes, so neon could be the perfect way to overhaul your collection for 2019. On the other hand, if you’re feeling brave then go for a head-to-toe ensemble; think neon power suit or dress for a bold statement.

Neon works incredibly well when paired with other key trends. Incorporate the latest designs in one by wearing neon streetwear, or neon snake print. Casual wear in particular can look great in neon, by making something quite simple look extraordinary.

Consider the seasons; neon can work through the year in various guises. Think neon jumpers for the winter, and neon beachwear in the summer.

Neon style inspiration

There are many different ways you can incorporate the neon trend into your clothing collection, from day to night. As mentioned earlier, neon knitwear can work perfectly when paired with your favourite jeans for off-duty, weekend style; likewise, a muted top with neon trousers can create an effortlessly on-trend appearance.

For eveningwear, say goodbye to those jewelled tones of last year and say hello to your favourite bright shades. Royal blue, deep purple and emerald are quickly making way for more vivid hues, and they can easily be worn in the form of a mini, midi or maxi dress. Just remember to accessorise accordingly; simple hair and makeup goes best with this kind of look. Look out for extra enhancements like sequins and prints for something a little more unique.

Of course, for those of you who still aren’t convinced that neon is the way to go this year, why not think on a smaller scale? Handbags and shoes make a perfect way to experiment with the trend, creating a striking look without going over the top!

Honda To Lead 2019 Rose Parade

On January 1, 2019, American Honda will ring in the New Year and its 60th anniversary celebration with the lead float in the 130th Rose Parade® presented by Honda. The company’s float entry, “Celebration of Dreams,” will pay tribute to Honda’s heritage in the U.S. and its dreams for the future.

The 25-foot tall float will be shaped like a giant birthday cake to mark the occasion, complete with special “candles”—60 members of Historically Black College and University (HBCU) marching bands. The band members’ schools recently participated in the Honda Battle of the Bands, an annual showcase created by Honda as part of the company’s commitment to the HBCU community and music education.

The floral confection will also feature a re-creation of the company’s first Los Angeles storefront. The float will be punctuated by vibrant color, music and video, with screens that share the story of American Honda’s commitment to the community.

“For 60 years, Honda has celebrated the power of dreams and has been committed to making the communities where we live and work better places for future generations,” said Steve Morikawa, vice president of Corporate Relations & Social Responsibility, American Honda. “We look forward to celebrating this anniversary with our customers while continuing to provide products and services that will bring them joy for years to come.”

The main float will be surrounded by five satellite units, each dedicated to Honda products, themes and milestones:

  • Honda Super Cub. The product that marked American Honda’s debut and represents Honda’s motorcycle heritage.
  • Environment. This unit will showcase a floral re-creation of the 1975 Honda Civic CVCC, the vehicle that was the first to satisfy U.S. Clean Air Act standards without the use of a catalytic converter. It serves as a reminder of Honda’s mission to reduce the impact of its products and operations on the environment.
  • Safety. Honda believes in Safety for Everyone. To visually demonstrate this, the float unit will feature crash test dummies surrounded by an arch with five stars. The arch symbolizes the top crash safety rating available in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s NCAP program, which top rating has been earned by many Honda and Acura vehicles.
  • American Manufacturing. Focused on American Honda’s manufacturing presence, this float will highlight the 25 millionth vehicle built in the U.S.—and one of the best-selling vehicles in its vehicle lineup—the Honda Accord*.
  • Future. Honda believes in the Power of Dreams and is fulfilling its dreams of flight on the wings of HondaJet.

In keeping with Honda’s commitment to the environment, the float will be powered by a specially configured low-emission, Honda hybrid powertrain. The Parade’s theme banner float will also be powered by Honda hybrid technology.

In addition to the float, the 2019 Honda Insight will be the Parade’s Official Pace Car. The Insight offers exceptional fuel economy ratings and advanced standard safety features and joins the Clarity series and Accord Hybrid as the fifth Honda electrified vehicle introduced in the past year. The 2019 Acura RDX will serve as the Sound Car. This third-generation RDX is the first to be designed and engineered in America, with styling design conducted in the Acura Design Studio in Los Angeles, California, and development and manufacturing conducted in Ohio.

The 130th Rose Parade® presented by Honda will be broadcasted at 8:00 a.m. Pacific on Tuesday, January 1, 2019.
