X Ambassadors – My Own Monster

Today, multi-platinum-selling rock band X Ambassadors share their latest single, a darkly cinematic track called “My Own Monster.” Released via KIDinaKORNER/Interscope Records, “My Own Monster” is a moody psychodrama in the form of a groove-heavy pop song. “My Own Monster” is available now at all digital retailers.

Made with producer Andrew Wells (Young the Giant, Halsey, Fitz and the Tantrums), “My Own Monster” unfolds as a seductive and surreal piece of storytelling, examining themes of alienation, emotional risk, and the desire to break free from pain. “It’s a song about someone who has a voice inside their head,” reveals X Ambassadors lead singer Sam Nelson Harris. “There’s something evil about the voice, but the person is attracted to that and ultimately decides, ‘I’m going to embrace this awful thing, let it be my best friend and let it protect me. What could possibly happen?’” To create the powerful tension that propels “My Own Monster,” X Ambassadors merged the track’s sinister groove with dreamy Mellotron textures and Theremin-like guitar tones specifically selected for their otherworldly effect.

With their highly awaited third album due out later this year, “My Own Monster” marks the start of a compelling new lyrical direction for X Ambassadors.  “My Own Monster” is the first new music from X Ambassadors since their hyper-creative multi-part project (Eg). A three-song effort released in early 2021, (Eg) found the band collaborating with a series of similarly forward-thinking artists, including Earl St. ClairTerrell Hines, and Jensen McRae.

ABOUT X AMBASSADORS
X Ambassadors made their full-length debut with VHS, a 2015 release that saw the band transition from Ithaca alt-rockers and Brooklyn-indie-scene outsiders to Billboard stalwarts. Now certified platinum, VHS provided an intimate look at Sam Nelson Harris and his brother Casey Harris’s youth, delivering the genre-defying hits “Unsteady” and “Renegades” and leading to a three-year global touring odyssey as well as a string of high-profile festival performances. VHS was followed by X Ambassadors’ 2019 sophomore album ORION, which they supported with an extensive headline tour of the U.S. A project inspired by ’60s and ’70s soul and R&B, the band’s Belong EP arrived in March 2020.

Alex Cuba × Mendó

Multiple LATIN GRAMMY Winner ALEX CUBA’s New Album Mendó (“The Substance Of The Soul”) Soars To #6 On KCRW’s TOP 30 Chart

The Critically Praised Cuban Canadian Multi-Instrumentalist Lands The Only Latin Music Release On This Week’s Chart From The Influential Los Angeles NPR Station

Watch Hablando x Hablar

Watch H x H

“It’s always exciting to unpack the latest music by Alex Cuba! His work is divine from start to finish, the production is outstanding, his themes are universal, and his voice is luscious! We’ve all gone through a dark year, so every moment of beauty has been especially poignant and ‘Mendo’ has been a steady companion.” Ariana Morgenstern – KCRWExecutive Producer, Music Department.

Alex Has Also Just Released Videos For The Album’s TWO Unique Versions Of Hablando x Hablar -His Standout Collaboration With CIMAFUNK – Giving You A Choice To Enjoy Your Bass Funk Groove Straight Up – Or With A Power Blast of Horns Courtesy of Joaquín Betancourt & Su Joven Jazz Band

Alex Cuba is back with another collection of killer songs… some of his best songs in a career filled with brilliance… It’s not for no reason that this completely indie artist has multiple Latin Grammy nominations to his credit… On Mendó, he reached out across the digital universe to collaborate with some of Latin music’s biggest names for 10 new tunes that range from funk to flamenco, nuevo canto to bossa ballads. Naturally, all of these songs bear the distinctive Cuba stamp of pristine production, instrumental prowess and silky singing that just seduces the listener… each track is like a single designed to evoke a unique mood and emotional reaction. Cuba usually plays everything on his homemade records. And why not, when you can bring a personal touch to any instrument you come into contact with? But a special place is reserved for his spectacular dexterity on the standup bass. opening track Hablando x Hablar (feat. Cimafunk). is blown wide open by Cuba’s slapping, rubbery bass lines coupled with sparse handclaps and layered choruses…. H X H (feat Cimafunk, Joaquin Betancourt & Su Joven Jazz Band).  this swinging big-band arrangement makes clear that somewhere down the way, Cuba needs to cut an album backed by a full orchestra. The baritone saxophones loop that underpins the whole tune is just so incredibly deep that it’s impossible not to tap along with it. This deserves a big extended remix by some ace Miami scene dance DJ, because it’s got packed dance floor stamped all over it.” – Vancouver Sun

“Bringing his distinctive folk, funk and rock hybrid to life, the four-time Latin Grammy winner presents his new album Mendó, a testament to the respect other artists have for Alex. On this set, Cuba collaborates with renowned artists including Antonio Carmona, Cimafunk, Lila Downs, Gian Marco, Raul Midón and Gilberto Santa Rosa.” – Billboard

“A while back I had to ask myself ‘Is it me or do I actually like everything Alex Cuba releases?’ So far, the answer is: Very much! …The four-time Latin Grammy winner’s brilliant discography has evolved from Afro-Cuban music to world music, rock en español, salsa, alternative Latin and Latin crossover blends of pop, soul and jazz. And it just gets better… Irresistible, superbly minimalistic yet profoundly full …a sensory upload of sublime playing, creative arrangements and melodic delight.”  – NPR

“Fresh off his most recent Latin Grammy nominations (seven along with four wins), and notable performance on the November 2020 broadcast… and in advance of his upcoming eighth studio album… Alex Cuba, is releasing new single ‘Hablando x Hablar’ with Cuban breakout star, Cimafunk. ‘Hablando x Hablar’ is a fun and funky upbeat track that questions what we think we know to be true in society… a brave musical concept using only one physical instrument (an upright bass), handclaps, and vocals, ‘Hablando x Hablar is a bold, full bodied song, completely universal in nature, that feels like a giant production without getting bombastic… high energy performer Cimafunk has been rated by Billboard as a ‘top 10 Latin artist to watch’ with his Afro-Cuban funk-soul music style…. [While] Alex carries his Cuba within, incorporating subtle jazz influences, and tasteful, sophisticated chords and lyrics expressing his poetry in an undeniably Cuban way. His growing body of work defines a unique musical place in the Latin diaspora.” – Cashbox Canada

Nicky Jam Is Seduced By Temptation On His New Single Miami

Available on all digital music platforms

One of the greatest urban-music pioneers, Nicky Jam, unveils his new single Miami, a song that defines the limits of temptation in a long-lived relationship. Could Nicky Jam resist? To find out, fans will be able to enjoy their idol’s new music video on YouTube.

On many occasions, relationships are put to the test by the intervention of third parties, and this is what the new Nicky Jam’s song “Miami” is all about. A very common life story in which a man is tempted to betray his partner with another girl who represents something new, different, and forbidden.

The song has A-class producers such as Dj Luian, Mambo Kingz, and Neneto, under the wings of the record label La Industria INC/Sony Music Latin.

Miami premiers with its official music video, an unprecedented audio-visual production. The video is full of emotion and bright colors, under the lens of the master of urban genre music videos, Jessy Terrero.

“I think that all my fans are going to love this song. It’s all about real-life experiences. Those that can really connect you with the audience, because, unfortunately, heartbreaks are more common than happy endings,” said Nicky Jam.

The videoclip was produced by Cinema Giants INC, and as expected, it was recorded in the city of Miami, Florida. Filmmaker Jessy Terrero did not miss the opportunity to show off the best landscapes in the city, including luxurious balconies overlooking the ocean and bold Miami-style streets where nightlife is the real protagonist.

About Nicky Jam:

Nick Rivera Caminero, known as Nicky Jam, is recognized around the world as a pioneer of Latin urban music. At the age of 11, he recorded his first album …Distinto A Los Demás (Different from the Rest), which attracted the attention of DJs and artists in Puerto Rico.

As a young adult, Nicky Jam quickly rose to the top of his genre with radio hits including “Yo No Soy Tu Marido (I’m Not Your Husband),” “Me Voy Pa’l Party (I’m Leaving for the Party),” “Fiel A Tu Piel (Faithful to Your Skin)” and “La Combi Completa (The Complete Package),” among others. He toured the world and became one of Latin urban music’s first international stars. He was obligated to stop his music career for three years because of some serious personal problems. In 2013, he relaunched with a new image, coming back stronger than ever. He notched five radio hits: “Piensas en ME (You Think About Me),” “Curiosidad,” “Juegos Prohibidos (Forbidden Games),” “Voy a Beber (I’m Going to Drink)” and the global chart-topper, “Travesuras (Mischief).”

In February 2015, Nicky Jam teamed up with Enrique Iglesias to release “El Perdón (Forgiveness)”, his most internationally acclaimed single to date. Tallying over one million YouTube views on the day of its release, “El Perdón” was #1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart for 30 weeks (second longest-running single in the chart’s history). In January 2016, Nicky released “Hasta el Amanecer (Until Dawn),” which gave him the biggest Latin song of the year for the second consecutive year.

In 2017 Nicky Jam released “El Amante (The Lover)” and his very first solo album Fénix. The single “El Amante” quickly became an international hit, reaching 7x platinum, while the album went 11x platinum. The same year, he made his acting debut in the Vin Diesel blockbuster XXX: Return of Xander Cage.

In 2018 he earned three Latin GRAMMY nominations and appeared on the all-star remix of “Te Bote (I Dumped You),” whose video became the most watched on YouTube in any genre during 2018. Additionally, Nicky Jam had the honor of recording and performing “Live It Up,” featuring Will Smith and Era Istrefi, for the official soundtrack of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

His autobiographical series El Ganador (The Winner) premiered on Netflix at the end of 2019, as well as his album Íntimo.

Nicky Jam returned to the big screen in early 2020 with a role in Bad Boys for Life, starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. His most recent single “Fan de tus Fotos” has generated great impact in the music industry, garnering more than 25 million views within a month of its release.

Vintage Colors – Outfit Your Website in Modern Retro

The phrase ‘modern retro’ might sound like an oxymoron but it’s just an easy way of describing something that has crept its way back into fashion, even if it died in ignominy many decades ago. It’s the kind of trend that causes coffee shops to blend pop art with vintage furnishings or hospital green appliances with white subway tiles. It’s a collision, in other words, often of two or more disparate design decades.

While it’s easy to expect this kind of trend to crop up in interior design circles, websites began experimenting with modern retro around the same time that millennials started to forget about the days they spent living in the 80s and 90s; that is, about five years ago. The difficulty inherent in this style of work is melding classic colors and imagery without compromising the usability of the website.

70s, 80s, and 90s

But what did these decades look like? The 90s were bright, chaotic, and kitschy, encapsulated by the ‘jazz’ cup design created by Gina Ekiss. The previous decade, the 80s, was more about neons, burnished metals, and pinks and blues. Lastly, the 70s liked its oranges and browns and large repeating patterns. Oddly enough, our experiments with decade-spanning trends seemed to end around the turn of the millennium.

However, one of the design fascinations that never seems to go away involves space, futurism, and technology. For instance, the website of AI-based energy company Nesh has domed habitats flanking its namesake smart assistant, while Genesis Casino features astronauts, planets, and satellites. The latter is one of the more technology-forward sites too; it’s a paysafecard online casino and accepts Apple Pay. This shows the broad adoption of this style.

Contributors to website awards site Awwwards point to the Soviet Design page as a good example of 90s stylings. One of the best places to look for website inspiration with 80s leanings, though, is not a website at all. Artistic movements like vaporwave and future funk have the Blade Runner decade pinned down to its most basic elements. Large and loud typefaces are the key to creating a site with a convincing 70s vibe.

Simplicity

An important point to remember is that the further back in time you plan to go, the less complicated your design needs to be. Marketing materials made in the 70s, for instance, are unlikely to have been in a digital format, which restricts their complexity to whatever a printing press could handle at the time. The reverse, an overabundance of options, is perhaps why the 90s were so chaotic.

Ironically, one of the few design schemes to hit the mainstream in the 2010s was simple almost to a fault. Flat design, which was arguably pioneered by Microsoft in its Windows 8 operating system, stripped the outlines and details away and replaced them with ‘flat’ colors. This style often makes use of long shadows and has been central to the design philosophy of Google and Apple too.

Modern retro allows companies to leverage nostalgia and a love for all things vintage to capture customers’ collective hearts.

Flames to dust

Lovers to friends

Why do all good things come to an end?

Grammy winning singer/songwriter Nelly Furtado signaled a new era in pop music by fusing her multicultural musical heritage and unabashedly honest lyrical style with trip-hop for a bold approach that resonates to this day. Today, “All Good Things (Come To An End),” the fifth single from her third studio album, Loose, which is certified gold or platinum in 26 countries, transitions from an introspectively lush dreamscape to a dance-friendly fusion that retains the feel of its timeless sentiment with a new remix from gold- and platinum-awarding winning German production duo Quarterhead (Ofenbach, Robin Schulz, Sabrina Carpenter, Dan+Shay). Written by Nelly Furtado, Chris Martin, Danja and Timbaland, the song remains a fan favorite with more than 250 million streams globally across digital service providers, according to Universal Music Artists app

Quarterhead — multi-instrumentalists Janik Riegert and Josh Tapen — have created a new version of “All Good Things (Come To An End).” The Nelly Furtado x Quarterhead Remix EP (IGA/UMe) also includes three edits (Extended and Instrumentals).

“‘All Good Things’ was one of the main pop anthems we grew up with,” said Janik Riegert. “Nelly, Timbaland and Chris Martin are the people behind the soundtrack of our very first heartbreaks, best road trips and longest nights. To work on this project wasn’t just a remix for us.”

Josh Tapen adds: “To work with this legacy was an amazing experience. We hope that the new mix between Nelly’s world and our vibe brings back a lot of amazing memories and helps to create as many new ones!”

Online hailed it as “an exciting alt-pop release from a very promising new talent,” and Refinery29 praised it saying, “a classic nursery rhyme gets a haunting Gen-Z makeover.”

Lyn Lapid has affirmed herself as a star on the rise for 2021. “Producer Man” emerged as “the most-viewed unreleased demo on a TikTok video in 2020. The song morphed from a viral TikTok clip into a phenomenon, as the original demo eclipsed over 70 million views and 8 million likes on the app. To date, the official release—produced by Dan Nigro [Olivia Rodrigo, Conan Gray, Carly Rae Jepsen, Lewis Capaldi, Sky Ferreira, Empress Of]—has racked up over 40 million global streams and 6 million YouTube views on the music video. Attracting widespread tastemaker praise, Rolling Stone claimed, “The fully produced version evokes early Nineties coffee-house soul gussied up with modern drum programming and ghostly electronic harmonies, while Idolator rightfully predicted it “is certain to make big waves.

ABOUT LYN LAPID

A classically trained musician, unpredictable vocal dynamo and fearless genre-breaker, Lyn Lapid asserts herself as an individual through and through. At 18-years-old, the singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and member of vocal collective EARCANDY has unassumingly emerged as an unapologetic and undeniable voice for her generation. In 2018, Lyn posted a ukulele and vocal cover of “Best Part” by Daniel Caesar and H.E.R. on YouTube. She went on to deliver D.I.Y. YouTube renditions of everyone from Ariana Grande and Sabrina Claudio to Edith Piaf and Sarah McLachlan, amassing 34 million-plus views and counting on her channel. In late 2019, Lyn launched her TikTok page, building an audience of 3.8 million followers at a rapid pace. Meanwhile, a snippet of her first original, “Producer Man,” exploded. Gathering over 70 million views and 8 million likes thus far, it emerged as “the most-viewed unreleased demo on a TikTok video in 2020.

Women on Web × Abortion Service

Online Abortion Service Women on Web Welcomes New Executive Director

Women on Web, a Canada-based international telemedical abortion service is excited to announce the appointment of Venny Ala-Siurua as its new Executive Director. She previously held the role of Manager of Operations in the organization.

After 15 successful years, Dr. Rebecca Gomperts will step down as the Executive Director and become Research Director, continuing to steer the organization’s innovative research efforts.

To have the opportunity to work with such a strong and charismatic leader as Rebecca Gomperts has been a great privilege and opportunity. No one exceeds her in creativity and devotion. I know her commitment to the Foundation remains undiminished and now, with the leadership of our wonderful new Executive Director, Venny Ala-Siurua, Rebecca will be able to commit herself more to helping envision our next 15 years and beyond.” Richard Owens, Chair of the board of Women on Web International Foundation.

Venny brings to the role over a decade of leadership in health and social protection projects, with international experience in nonprofit management and organizational change.

Venny’s hiring comes at an exciting juncture for the organization as we re-imagine our future role in the post-pandemic landscape of abortion access, enabling the preference for self-managed medical abortions and advocating for abortion services that correspond to the rights, needs, and autonomy of pregnant people. Under Venny’s leadership, digital rights will carve out a prominent space in our work as part of the organization’s growth and evolution.

“We will continue working towards a future where at-home abortions are a part of modern and inclusive healthcare. Self-managed abortions should not only be endorsed during a time of crisis, and they should not be considered as the last resort that individuals turn to after all other options have been exhausted.” Venny Ala-Siurua, Executive Director of Women on Web International Foundation.

This announcement coincides with Women on Web’s 15-year anniversary campaign that looks back on the past achievements and focuses on some exciting new directions. To stay updated on their future work, please sign up for their newsletter to be launched in June.

Formed in Derby, England, in 2012, The Struts have found themselves massively embraced by some of the greatest icons in rock-and-roll history. Along with opening for Foo Fighters, The Rolling Stones, The Who, and Guns N’ Roses, the UK-bred four-piece band was handpicked by Mötley Crüe to serve as the supporting act for their last-ever performances. Releasing their debut album Everybody Wants in 2016 and sophomore album YOUNG & DANGEROUS in 2018, they’ve toured incessantly since their formation, including worldwide headline shows and major festivals like Lollapalooza, Governors Ball, and Isle of Wight. When COVID-19 brought touring to a halt, The Struts created their third album Strange Days over the course of a charmed and frenzied burst of creativity last spring. After getting tested for COVID-19, the band moved into the L.A. home of producer Jon Levine and, within just ten days, laid down nine original tracks alongside their masterful cover of a KISS B-side.
