RITT MOMNEY – PUT YOUR RECORDS ON

By Cassandra Yany

Ritt Momney released the music video for his version of Corinne Bailey Rae’s “Put Your Records On” Thursday. In the video produced by Overcast and directed by Daniel Jordan K, a young boy’s daydream is brought to life and he sees himself as a future pop star in a psychedelic dreamscape.

The audience sees the pop star in a field filled with colorful roses underneath a pastel sky. This scene then starts to morph back into reality as the tone of the song changes. The serene, yet exciting vibe of the visuals perfectly encapsulates the feel-good mood of the track.

The cover first gained popularity as part of a TikTok trend where creators would put random swatches of makeup on their face and then jump to a clip where they have designed a full look using those colors. Social media influencer Ian Roley was invited on set as a makeup influencer to recreate the trend’s butterfly look for the music video.

“In 2006, Corinne Bailey Rae released one of the greatest pop songs of all time with ‘Put Your Records On,’” said Momney. “It was one of my mom’s favorites. She’d blast it in the minivan on the way to soccer practice and we’d all sing.”

“Fast forward to March 2020 when I got the idea to do a fun little cover of this song I’ve loved my whole life to combat some of the dreariness I was feeling. With this being my first real music video, I was really lucky to work with a bunch of professionals who were also around my age. They did a really good job capturing the essence of the cover, and I’m stoked that I got to work with Ian, the makeup artist who started the TikTok trend.”

Momney plans to donate a portion of the music video’s proceeds to a charity of Rae’s choosing. His rework of the song has become the 21-year-old’s breakout hit of the year. It has earned him over 120 million global streams to date with over two million TikTok videos made with the sound. This also marks Momney’s first Billboard Hot 100 entry, currently holding the no. 82 spot, and his Pop radio debut, charting at no. 39 less than two weeks after its impact.

The song topped Spotify’s US and Global Viral 50 charts in September and currently holds the no. 17 and no. 23 spots on the Us and Global Top 50, respectively.

About Ritt Momney

Ritt Momney is the solo project of Salt Lake City native Jack Rutter. The project first began as an indie rock band with his high school friends, but later became a personal outlet for the 21-year-old after his bandmates left for Mormon missions and his girlfriend went to college. He began writing, recording and producing his upcoming debut album in his bedroom. In the LP, titled “Her and All of My friends,” Rutter struggles with loss, loneliness and a drift away from Mormon culture.

Maluma x The Weeknd

MALUMA and THE WEEKND have joined forces to release a one-of-a-kind remix of global hit “HAWÁI”, along with its new music video via Sony Music Latin/RCA Records. Both are available now!

The Weeknd’s signature vocals go bilingual (English/Spanish) on the “HAWAÍ” Remix marking the first time the GRAMMY Award-winning artist sings in Spanish.

“I have always admired The Weeknd so it feels nothing short of a dream come true to have him collab on ‘HAWÁI’ Remix – he brought another flow to it and sang in both Spanish and English which is impressive,” expressed Maluma.

The melodious banger written by Maluma, The Weeknd, Keityn, Edgar Barrera and Bull Nene, was produced by the Rude Boyz. It tells the classic tale of a relationship breakup set in the modern Instagram age, where the story one tells and the pictures one posts can be deceiving.

Like with the original “HAWÁI”, the remix video, was shot by renowned director Jessy Terrero of Cinema Giants; but this time, instead of Miami, it took place in Los Angeles and features both artists.

“HAWÁI” has dominated Latin and global charts since its release. It has remained at #1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart for eight weeks; #1 on Billboard’s Latin Streaming Songs chart for nine weeks; and #1 on the Billboard Latin Airplay chart for three weeks (having scored his eighteenth #1 song on the chart). With “HAWÁI” Maluma has been at #1 on YouTube’s chart of the most viewed videos worldwide for multiple weeks and remains on the chart’s top ten.

The twenty-six year old global Latin music idol has also reached #1 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart and #2 on Spotify’s Global Top 50 chart. Internationally “HAWÁI” has reached #1 on radio, Spotify and Apple Music in 17+ countries.

Harry Styles – Golden

Harry Styles fans from across the world all tuned in to watch his new music video for his single “Golden.”

Following the music video for his single “Watermelon Sugar,” which was released at the end of July 2020, Styles continued the theme of bright colors and zany outfits in the “Golden” video.

Running through the Amalfi Coast, Styles interacts with locals and dances with the blue waters setting the backdrop in the video directed by Ben and Gabe Turner. “Golden” is already certified Gold by the RIAA and is the follow-up single to “Watermelon Sugar” and “Adore You,” both of which are certified Multi-Platinum and hit #1 on the Top 40 and Hot AC radio charts.

“Watermelon Sugar” also topped the Billboard Hot 100, marking his first ever #1 on the chart. The tracks are all featured on Harry’s Platinum certified album Fine Line, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 upon release and was recently named one of the top 500 albums of all time by Rolling Stone.

Vogue said that Styles was seen driving a convertible and a speed boat at the Amalfi Coast leading fans to believe a new video was on the way. They were right. Styles wasn’t just gallivanting around the coast for leisure, though that wouldn’t be a surprise either, he was collecting clips for the “Golden” video.

While Styles has excelled in his solo music career following the split of One Direction, he has also become a fashion icon for his gender fluid looks and fashion pieces that push boundaries. One thing Styles is known to do is wear lesser known designers intermixed with high fashion brands.

For the “Golden” video, Styles chose to wear the designer Steven Stokely-Daley, more notably the white and blue floral pleated trousers seen throughout the video and for the single’s cover. Stokely-Daley graduated from the University of Westminster this year earning his BA in Fashion and Apparel Design.

British GQ reported, “The items sit within Stokey-Daley’s graduate collection, which saw him use deadstock and leftover tweed, chiffon and silk from Alexander McQueen’s material archive, donated to the university by the brand under creative director Sarah Burton’s guidance.”
Styles also wore a piece from young designer James Pink.

Adding more to his repertoire, Styles is investing in a new arena in his hometown of Manchester according to Variety. Set to open in 2023, the project is lead by the Oak View Group and will be called CO-OP Live. “I’m incredibly proud and excited to be partnering with OVG on their plans for Co-op Live. Manchester is an incredible city, filled with incredible people, and I couldn’t be happier being involved in this project,” said Styles to Variety.

Styles is keeping busy this quarantine: new music, new fashion, and even a new building project. He no doubt makes us jealous by frolicking around Italy in the “Golden” video, but while he soaks up the Mediterainian sun, we’ll be watching the video on repeat to feel like we’re there too.

The Kid LAROI x Lil Mosey

In the spirit of Fall, The Kid LAROI is back to school for the highly anticipated visual for “Wrong” featuring Lil Mosey. Directed by YouTube and internet personality Logan Paul, the music video stars LAROI and Mosey, with cameos from friend and fellow label-mate Lil Tjay. Watch the fun and exuberant video HERE.

Music Video for Robert Grace – Fake Fine

Irish-pop newcomer Robert Grace releases the video to his hit single “Fake Fine” via Sony Music Germany/RCA Records. Watch HERE. “Fake Fine” was released last month and marked Robert’s first release with Sony Music Germany/RCA Records.

In the video to “Fake Fine”, Robert Grace sarcastically talks about the inner and outer disguises we put on for self-protection. Including real life facemasks, a minimum distance, and the will to once again be yourself. Nathan Barlow directed this video.

Robert says, “The idea behind this music video was to shed some more light on mental health. To show in a slightly light hearted way that there really is no quick fix for depression or anxiety. Happiness isn’t easy for everyone (especially at the moment!) and I don’t think enough people realize that!“

ABOUT “FAKE FINE”

The songwriter, musician, and producer from Graignamanagh, Kilkenny covers a topic relevant to this day and age. “The song is about acting like you’re fine when really you’re not,” Robert says, explaining the story behind “Fake Fine”. “When it’s all just pretending, the situation itself might not even be that bad. But, for some reason, something just isn’t right and you try to find out why that is.” Grace discusses the somewhat hazy feeling of being beside oneself. It’s finding yourself in the wrong movie, which ends up being about yourself, and hiding behind a mask in order to not reveal your true feelings. The irony of course being that masks play an especially important role these days – a fact that marvelously aligns with Robert’s clip to “Fake Fine”, in which he moves somewhere between sheer sarcasm, black humor, and the bittersweet hope for a better life.

The track entered the Spotify viral charts at #2 in his home country Ireland, #14 on the Shazam charts, and conquered the top 40 Irish airplay charts. And also over here it’s only a matter of time until “Fake Fine” will find its way into the hearts and ears of listeners!

ACHEIVEMENTS

His previous single “Be Your Friend” made it into the New Music Friday playlist on Spotify UK, was on rotation on Irish radio, and became track of the week on 2FMs Breakfast Show. While still in the process of being written, “Fake Fine” already reached over 700,000 views on TikTok and within only seven weeks, over 160,000 followers subscribed to him. Robert Grace has developed into a highly sought-after songwriter who has written tracks with Dan McDougall (The Wanted, The Shires), Blair MacKichan (Paloma Faith/Sia/Lily Allen) and Josh Wilkinson (One Direction/5 Seconds of Summer). The track before that, “Moving Fast”, was track of the week on 2FM and his song “The Good Place” made it into the influential Easy-Playlist on Spotify. The singer/songwriter from Kilkenny has also performed at Ireland’s biggest festivals, including “Electric Picnic” and “Independence.” Also, he has written songs with some of UK’s most reputable songwriters.
