Vince Staples – Magic

Esteemed hip-hop artist Vince Staples today debuted his new single “Magic.” The Mustard-produced track is the first single off his highly anticipated forthcoming album Ramona Park Broke My Heart. Dedicated to his hometown–the Ramona Park neighborhood of Long Beach, CA–the new album will be released in April via Blacksmith Recordings/Motown Records.

“It’s symbolic of home,” Staples says of the album’s title. “And everyone has a home. Even though it’s very personal to me, everyone can relate to it. That’s why I thought it would work for this chapter.”

Released on Valentine’s Day, “Magic” is meant to provide warm feelings. But the love Staples’ expresses on the track is broader and more complex than its charming beat suggests. It’s a celebration of how he was able to beat the inner city blues and a system designed to keep him seeped in the adversity he was raised in. “It’s handshakes and hugs when I come around,” he raps just before acknowledging that there are foes around who don’t enjoy seeing him win. “I think it’ll put the listener in a good state of mind,” Staples says. “The mood of it defines the project.”

“Magic” is available to stream or download HERE

Staples also recently began his run as a supporting act on Tyler, the Creator’s 34-date North American Call Me If You Get Lost tour, which kicked off February 8th and also features Kali Uchis and Teezo Touchdown. The celebrated rapper will also return to Coachella to perform this April on the 17th and 24th.

At the top of March, Staples will release his debut graphic novel: Limbo Beach. Releasing via Z2 Comics and co-written by industry vets Bryan Edward Hill (Batman & the Outsiders; Titans), Chris Robinson (Children of the Atom), and Buster Moody (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), it follows the journey of the newest member of The Wunderlosts, a band of misfit teenage raiders, on a journey to discover the truth about the park—and himself—in a tale that is equal parts Lord of the Flies and The Warriors.”

Ramona Park Broke My Heart follows Staples’ 2021 critically acclaimed self-titled LP that welcomed fans to his hometown (the Ramona Park neighborhood of Long Beach, CA) in addition to introducing personal friends and family.  Entirely produced by Kenny Beats, The Rolling Stone praised Staples for his “brilliantly concise songwriting” and “knack for combining brevity and sly wordplay” with Pitchfork calling Staples and Beats “unstoppable forces” saying, “there’s fire to be found even in the duo’s quietest moments,” while NPR called the project “powerful,” and NME described it as “another spectacular record.” There’s a direct correlation,” Staples says of 2021’s Vince Staples, and 2022’s Ramona Park Broke My Heart. “They were kind of created at the same time. I was in a similar state of mind. I’m still working through things and the questions that life poses. This album will make even more sense if you heard the previous one.” There is a key change, though. “This one has more answers.”

Vince Staples Returns with Highly Anticipated Self Titled Album

VINCE STAPLES DEBUTS NEW SELF-TITLED ALBUM, MARKING HIS FIRST FULL-LENGTH RELEASE IN THREE YEARS

STREAM/DOWNLOAD VINCE STAPLES HERE

Vince and Kenny Beats have easy chemistry in and out of the booth because both are consistently proving how adaptable they are to any facet of rap. They’re two unstoppable forces, here’s fire to be found even in the duo’s quietest moments. – Pitchfork

The self-titled record once again sees the North Long Beach rapper at the top of his game. –  Complex

A spectacular slow-burn – NME

Idiosyncratic and really impressive, the sound of someone walking their own path – The Guardian

Another superb outlier from a rapper who excels in them – The Independent

Esteemed hip-hop artist Vince Staples debuted his self-titled album today via Blacksmith Recordings / Motown Records. His first full-length release since 2018’s critically acclaimed FM!, the 10-track LP delves not only into Staples’ upbringing in Long Beach, but his psyche as he learns to cope with his yesterdays and strides toward new tomorrows, picking others up along the way. Stream or download Vince Staples HERE. Staples also unveiled official lyric videos for every track on the LP, which are available to watch via his YouTube channel HERE.

Ahead of the album’s release, Staples gave fans an early preview of the project sharing the first two singles off the LP — LAW OF AVERAGES, and ARE YOU WITH THAT?, LAW OF AVERAGES  was released alongside a companion music video (available to watch HERE) featuring a montage of voyeuristic moments in Long Beach, CA, and imagery that embodies Black joy and highlights the beauty within the fringes.

Of the new Kenny Beats-produced LP, Staples says, This project really gives much more information about me that wasn’t out there before. That’s why I went with that title. I feel like I’ve been trying to tell the same story. As you go on in life, your point of view changes. This is another take on myself that I might not have had before.

Throughout the LP, Staples ropes in recordings of intimate chats with loved ones for poignant interludes that provide insight into who he is. THE APPLE & THE TREE features his mother recalling moments she let anger push her into a situation, hindsight now tells her succumbing to anger did nothing to serve her. LAKEWOOD MALL stars one of Vince’s best friends Pac Slim remembering a night where Vince decided not to go to a party that ended in gunshots. Other standout tracks include ARE YOU WITH THAT? and TAKE ME HOME, which showcase his dynamic musicality and knack for layering hard-hitting bars over infectious beats that push the creative envelope.

Elsewhere on the album, we discover that Staples deals with the anxiety of not being able to decipher friend from foe at times as who cruises through streets he grew up on. Moreover, the tug of war between the music star life and staying planted in the soil he bloomed from doesn’t seem to gnaw at him as it does with others as fortunate as he.

The celebrated rapper’s latest body of work is also just the beginning of his busy 2021. He is currently working on a number of creative projects with additional details to be announced throughout the year.

I’m a mind more than I am an entertainer to a lot of people, Staples says, adding, I appreciate that my fanbase is willing to go on this ride with me. I’m ready to diversify what we’re doing and see how we affect the world.

James Vincent McMorrow × Paradise

James Vincent McMorrow shares the music video for Paradise from his upcoming album, Grapefruit Season, to be released on September 17.

“McMorrow has a soul voice to cherish” – Guardian

“The ever-shifting Irish singer-songwriter…it works” – Sunday Times, Hottest Tracks

“A deft collaboration, with James pushing his music onto a different realm, whilst maintaining that recognizable emotional pull” – CLASH

“Lyrically raw and immensely quotable” – The Forty Five

James Vincent McMorrow shares the video for new single Paradise, which is available now via Sony Music UK/RCA Records. Paradise is the latest taste of James’ much-anticipated new album Grapefruit Season – which also features teaser singles Headlights, Gone, and I Should Go (with Kenny Beats) – and is now set for release on September 17.

Produced by James alongside Paul Epworth and Lil Silva, Paradise is about pretending everything is fine when, beneath the surface, it really isn’t. Initially struggling to find its visual concept, the Paradise video started as an off-hand remark (“why don’t I just dig out my rollerblades and film myself learning to skate again in the park behind my house?”) but now feels like the perfect fit to the track’s uplifting, feel-good but melancholic center.

Paradise further previews Grapefruit Season, James Vincent McMorrow’s upcoming, fifth studio album – and one in which the artist, producer, and songwriter pushes himself (and his sound) in all new ways. The record was recorded between London, Los Angeles, and Dublin, largely before the pandemic struck. It embraces the timeless yet timely fact that life is chaos; the idea of growing up, but as Paradise suggests, still feeling none the wiser. Each song is held together by McMorrow’s instantly-identifiable voice, an untethered musical imagination, and (from dancehall to soul, country to R&B) purposefully little else in its pursuit of fear-free pop music. Even the title, Grapefruit Season, seems to signpost doing simply what you want, rather than what you are supposed to do – it was inspired by James watching his mum eat grapefruit as a kid, and the idea that what’s good for you may not actually be pleasurable.

Throughout the emotional highs and lows of Grapefruit Season, you are reminded of the risks James Vincent McMorrow has taken since the singer-songwriter roots of debut album Early In The Morning (which turned ten in 2020); but also that those same instincts – to follow inspiration wherever it leads, and to be as brutally honest possible – remain a refreshing constant. Whilst there may always be trouble in Paradise, what’s emerged is James Vincent McMorrow’s most essential album to date.

James also made headlines recently playing the first concert in Ireland with a live audience since the beginning of the pandemic (tickets sold out in just 30 seconds). With festivals including Latitude and Isle of Wight confirmed to follow this summer, McMorrow’s UK and European tour for early 2022 includes a London date at Kentish Town Forum on February 21 and two homecoming shows at Dublin’s Olympia Theatre on April 19-20.

In conjunction with the announcement, Staples released the much-anticipated first single off the LP, Law of Averages”, alongside the official music video for the track, directed by Kid. Studio. Mae Muller – dependent

Mae Muller dropped a brand new music video Wednesday for her song “dependent.”

The new video from the North London-based singer is directed by Sophia Ray, who has worked with artists like Lily Allen, Ty Dolla $ign and Amber Mark. You can see it by clicking right here.

Muller said this is one of her favorite videos she has ever done.

“I loved collaborating with the super talented Sophia Ray and the team that brought the concept of the song to life. The looks, the dancers, everything is on point! I really wanted to do this song justice with a stunning video and feel like we’ve really achieved that,” Muller said.

The song opens her debut EP, which is titled “no one else, not even you,” and it takes a look at the joy of finding love in combination with the fear of losing your individuality. The EP contains eight tracks and showcases Muller’s undeniably fearless and fun style of pop music.

She said she wrote the song at the beginning of a relationship at a time during which she could feel herself falling in love but felt scared at the same time.

“That’s what always happens when I start to fall for someone: instead of going with the flow and just enjoying myself, I start to panic a bit because of the power you have to give up,” she said. “This song is me being totally honest about not wanting to become dependent on someone, because my independence is so important to me.”

The song is co-written by Henrik Michelson of Electric, and it is produced and written with help from Rick Nowels, Jimmy Napes, Skyler Stonestreet and Kenny Beats.

At 23 years old, Muller has already racked up more than 100 million global streams and has been featured on Spotify’s New Music Friday and Apple Music’s A-List Pop, In My Room, Future Hits and more.

She also sold out a 2020 headline tour of the United Kingdom, proving her ability to build a fan base around the entire world.

Critics and press are also loving Muller.

GQ said, “Mae Muller’s witty and brutally honest lyrics set her apart from her peers.”

Flaunt said, “Mae Muller is your new favorite singerߪHer goal is to be a spokeswoman for this new generation, unveiling layers of authenticity, talent, beauty and confidence.”

Wonderland called her a “clear pop sensation in the making,” while The Guardian said listeners can “expect an abundance of attitude.”

Smino Baguetti Artwork

Smino – Baguetti

In the wise opening words of J.I.D, “I need a minute to meditate.” On the new song “Baguetti,” Smino (Zero Fatigue/Downtown/Interscope) is joined by Dreamville’s J.I.D and superproducer Kenny Beats to grant us all three minutes to be still with our thoughts. In his typical eccentric manner, the St. Louis artist acknowledges God for not forsaking him while calling out those who haven’t dropped a metaphorical penny into the collection plate of society. J.I.D then wraps up today’s meditation session with a TED Talk-level explanation of his credentials in the music industry. Fans around the world can now set aside their daily time of peace on all platforms after they aggressively demanded an official release following a snippet.

Earlier this year, Smino released his song “Tempo” for his hardcore fanbase. Last year, Smino was featured on the Dreamville posse cut, “Sacrifices,” with J. Cole, Saba, and Earthgang. He also nabbed a coveted guest spot on Chance the Rapper’s album, The Big Day, on the song, “Eternal,” which peaked at #25 on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart. The duo performed the track for the first time at Lollapalooza. Smino is currently gearing up to release new music.

Benee – “Night Garden”

BENEE RELEASES NEW SINGLE “NIGHT GARDEN” FEAT. KENNY BEATS & BAKAR

“SUPALONELY” ACCUMULATES OVER 1 BILLION STREAMS WORLDWIDE

ANNOUNCED AS APPLE MUSIC UP NEXT ARTIST AND FIRST EVER NEW ZEALAND UP NEXT ARTIST

RECENT APPEARANCES ON THE TONIGHT SHOW STARRING JIMMY FALLON, THE ELLEN DEGENERES SHOW AND SELECTED AS MTV PUSH ARTIST

Today, New Zealand’s sensation BENEE shares her new single, “Night Garden” feat. Kenny Beats & Bakar, out today—listen HERE  and watch the lyric video HERE!

For the track, the songstress recruited tastemaker-approved and Elton John-and Virgil Abloh-endorsed London artist Bakar and influential hip-hop producer and beatsmith Kenny Beats [Vince Staples, Freddie Gibbs, Denzel Curry, Rico Nasty]. Together, these three disruptors cook up an entrancing and engaging anthem. Unmistakable and unpredictable production from Beats twists through airy guitar as BENEE hums the haunting hook, “In the night garden, things are out there creeping.” Meanwhile, Bakar turns up with a clever and catchy cameo of his own. The track unites three diverse and dynamic talents from three cultures on one broodingly bold bop unlike anything else any of them have done.

The session with Kenny Beats in his legendary LA studio The Cave was one of BENEE’s first experiences recording music outside of New Zealand. She explains, “It was awesome working with him, he was so fast making the beat that it was also probably the fastest I have ever had to write a song ha ha!”

Knowing she wanted a feature on the track, she turned to Bakar, who she says “has the coolest voice, so I felt it would be sick to have him on it!”

“Night Garden” follows BENEE’S breakthrough smash hit “Supalonely” feat. Gus Dapperton, which has received critical acclaim across the globe. The song has amassed 1.3 billion streams worldwide and is currently charting at #13 on the U.S. Top 40 Radio Chart. Recently, BENEE performed the song with Gus Dapperton on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Both performances were shot socially distant, but with a twist (and a few special guests). In addition, BENEE was selected as MTV’s Push Artist for the month of June—check out her stripped-back performance of “Supalonley” shot in New Zealand’s Auckland Art Gallery HERE.

Not to mention, “Supalonely” feat. Gus Dapperton is now Gold Certified in the U.S., as well as Platinum Certified in seven other countries, including New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Mexico and more. It peaked in the Top 10 on Spotify’s Global Top 50 Chart and BENEE currently sits as “The 86th Most Listened To Artist In The World” on the platform. Within a short time, BENEE has gone from canvasing Soundcloud with covers out of her teenage bedroom to rising on the charts and amassing over 1.7 billion streams across her catalogue.

This week, Apple Music announced BENEE as the newest Up Next artist, Apple Music’s monthly artist initiative geared towards identifying, showcasing and elevating rising talent. BENEE makes history as Apple Music’s first New Zealand Up Next artist. The global campaign includes the release of a short film shot entirely on iPhone 11 Pro and a sit-down interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. The vast Up Next roster of past talent includes Grammy-nominated and critically lauded talent. BENEE’s Apple Music Up Next film is available to watch HERE and her Apple Music interview with Zane Lowe is available to watch HERE.

Recently, BENEE announced her return to touring with a headline tour across New Zealand this fall, which includes a sold-out show and recently added second show at her hometown Auckland’s Spark Arena on October 16th and 17th. Tickets are available now HERE.

Stay tuned for more from BENEE very soon!

ABOUT BENEE:

From her hometown in Auckland, New Zealand, breakthrough popstar Stella Bennett, aka BENEE, remains unphased, unchanged and almost impervious to the cataclysmic success coming her way since releasing her debut EP, FIRE ON MARZZ, last summer. Already her tale is one of eye-watering statistics and achievements. Her story is international and expanding on the hour, across modern and traditional platforms. Her audience seems endless. BENEE, however, remains easygoing, centered and—most importantly—herself. It’s just over six months since the release of her second EP of 2019, STELLA & STEVE, garnered knockout reviews. Breakthrough track “Supalonely” is a slice of upbeat and original pop—like its creator, a little exotic and cheerfully weird. The song hits like a ray of sunshine, jammed to the hilt with personality and punctuated by BENEE’s verbal tics. BENEE’s music runs the gamut of everything pop can be in 2020 and is filled with her quirks in the experimental indie sounds and the cartoon-ish sprawl of her lyrical imagery. Her fans have a naturally intimate
connection with her deceptively easy-going pop and that thing she still loves to call her “BENEE-VISION”.
