BENEE – Plain × Lily Allen & Flo Milli

New Zealand’s platinum sensation BENEE reveals her new single, “Plain” feat. Lily Allen & Flo Milli—listen HERE! It stands out as the latest song to be unveiled from her anxiously awaited full-length debut, Hey u x, out November 13th—pre-order it HERE now.

Sending a message to an ex, dreamy guitar fades in and out of the background as BENEE croons, “What a shame your girl’s so plain, she’s got nothing on me. Hope she stays the hell away, I don’t want to see her.The song features a gorgeously melancholic cameo from Lily Allen, while Flo Milli raps over the bouncy beat with a razor-sharp rhyme of her own. The track unites three dynamic and diverse female voices on one understated, yet undeniable send-off.

Of the collaboration, BENEE says, “I wanted to make it a song someone could listen to when they find out their ex is with someone new. The feeling sucks, so I wanted ‘Plain’ to make ya feel like you have the upper hand. Lily and Flo Milli both have such cool sass, and both their verses really elevated the track!”

Just over a week ago, BENEE first shared the details for Hey u x. Blending, bending and breaking genres like only she can, the much-anticipated record boasts an all-star cast of collaborators, including Grimes, Gus Dapperton, Mallrat, Kenny Beats, Bakar and Muroki. Hey u x includes BENEE’s Platinum-Certified smash hit “Supalonley” feat. Gus Dapperton, which has amassed over 2.1 billion global streams to date, as well as her recently released pop bops, “Night Garden” feat. Kenny Beats and Bakar and “Snail.” See the full album tracklist below. The album artwork was designed by Californian artist Terry Hoff.

Earlier this month, BENEE announced the launch of Olive, her very own record label based in New Zealand. Her first signing is Muroki, a 19-year-old artist from Raglan, New Zealand, who is featured on Hey u x and accompanied her on her sold-out arena tour across New Zealand. ABOUT BENEE

Stella Rose Bennett, who records as BENEE, grew up in Auckland, New Zealand on a steady diet of downer Soundcloud rap, James Blake breakup hymns, and artists who valued experimentation like Bjork, Groove Armada, and Radiohead, which her parents exposed her to at an early age. One day, on a whim, Bennett put some Gnarls Barkley and Amy Winehouse covers she’d sung directly into GarageBand up on Soundcloud, and soon, she was in the studio with producer Josh Fountain, working on original songs. Last year, Bennett released two EPs—FIRE ON MARZZ and STELLA & STEVE, which went platinum and gold in New Zealand, respectively. Additionally, she was named Apple Up Next Artist July 2020, nominated for MTV VMA “Push Best New Artist” 2020, MTV EMA “Best Push” Artist 2020, E! People’s Choice Awards New Artist of 2020 and nominated for New Zealand’s 2020 Aotearoa Music Awards in the Single of the Year, Best Solo Artist, and Best Pop Artist categories. In 2019, she took home four trophies at the New Zealand Music Awards: Single of the Year (“Soaked”), Best Solo Artist, Best Pop Artist, and Breakthrough Artist of the Year.

All of which set the stage for what would become her debut studio album, Hey u x, which is out November 13th. Hey u x is a fascinating album that exists in two opposing eras of modern society: the (relatively) carefree pre-COVID-19 era, and the post COVID world, where lockdowns and intense isolation are now a regular part of life. Each of the songs on the album offer up a discrete universe of heartbreak, loneliness, and personal growth, shot back to the listener as quiet communiques. “I’m writing music for one human listening to the music,” Bennett says. “I want them to feel as connected as they can to my mind. Like a message that you send to a friend.” On Hey u x, musical genres are to be explored and adopted, songs are constructed from otherworldly concepts, and a sense of playfulness hangs over even the most melancholy moments. Like much of what Bennett has achieved thus far, it all seems so casual that it could be accidental, but there’s a deep purpose behind her music and her worldview.

BENEE – Snail

WATCH THE OFFICIAL VIDEO FOR “SNAIL” HERE

“BENEE’s career is traveling at anything but a snail’s pace.” – Billboard
“‘Snail’ isn’t just a catchy pop bop, it’s a bid for world domination.” – Consequence of Sound
“Quirky but impeccably produced pop” – Stereogum
“Practically radiates sunshine” – PAPER Magazine

“It’s most definitely on repeat…” – V Magazine
“Thumping pop tune” – UPROXX
“Bright and bouncy” – NYLON
“Offbeat bop” – Idolator

New Zealand’s platinum sensation BENEE unveils the official video for her latest single “Snail” today—watch it HERE!

For the visual, BENEE and director Anita Fontaine deliver a lush and larger-than-life fantasy befitting of the track. In the colorful clip, BENEE wakes up to feed her giant snail roommates and slides around their slime trails before heading to work in her secret elf lab. Soon, she’s cycling out of her home—a concrete replica of her own head—out into a storm. After being struck by lightning, our heroine turns into an elf and cruises through a mushroom wonderland under the glow of an aurora borealis-style blanket of colors across the sky. Reflective of her personality, it pops off as her biggest and boldest video to date.

Not to mention, “Snail” has already clocked nearly four million Spotify streams and received praise from Billboard, Entertainment Weekly, Consequence of Sound, Stereogum, UPROXX, NYLON, PAPER Magazine, V Magazine, NME, Clash, DIY, Dork, LADYGUNN, Idolator, Ones To Watch, This Song Is Sick and many more.

Of the inspiration behind the video, BENEE says, “I knew I wanted the vid to be a weird fantasy story involving snails! I said to Anita that I wanted to be an elf with long braids riding a bike and have giant mushrooms somewhere in the vid…She came back with the treatment, and I loved ittttttt! Her imagination is supa whacky in the best way, and I’m so happy with how ‘Snail’ turned out!”

Earlier this week, BENEE delivered a show-stopping performance of her breakthrough smash “Supalonely” on NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers. Once again, she pulled out all of the stops with no shortage of surprises—watch it HERE. Plus, the songstress recently reached new heights with nominations at the MTV EMAs (PUSH Best New Artist Category), E! People’s Choice Awards (The New Artist of 2020 Category) and New Zealand’s Aotearoa Music Awards (Single of the Year, Best Solo Artist, Best Pop Artist).

Currently on her sold out headline tour across New Zealand, BENEE will be treating fans around the world to a very special livestream finale show from New Zealand’s Spark Arena on October 17th. This will be the world’s first livestreamed show in front of a sold out arena audience since concerts have returned in New Zealand. The show will be livestreamed and available to ticketholders on October 17th at 9:20pm NZDT, and a fuSll replay of the show will then be available on October 17th for fans globally at 1:00pm PDT/4:00pm EDT. For complete livestream and ticket information visit here.

Lastly, today BENEE announced the launch of Olive, her very own record label based in New Zealand. Her first signing is Muroki, a 19-year-old artist from Raglan, New Zealand, who is accompanying her on tour this month. Behind the scenes, BENEE is reveling in building a team with a fresh approach to music. Experienced label manager Trieste Douglas, formerly A&R for Universal NZ, has joined Olive, working with BENEE and Poppy Tohill from her management company, CRS. BENEE says, “The Olive team is already packed with some hardworking badass women, and I feel this is an important time for us in the music business to come together and make some really cool shit happen.”

Stay tuned for more exciting news from BENEE very soon!

ABOUT BENEE
From her hometown in Auckland, New Zealand, breakthrough popstar Stella Bennett, aka BENEE, remains unphased, unchanged and almost impervious to the cataclysmic success coming her way since releasing her debut EP, FIRE ON MARZZ, last summer. Already her tale is one of eye-watering statistics and achievements. Her story is international and expanding on the hour, across modern and traditional platforms. Her audience seems endless. BENEE, however, remains easygoing, centered and—most importantly—herself. It’s just over six months since the release of her second EP of 2019, STELLA & STEVE, garnered knockout reviews. Breakthrough track “Supalonely” is a slice of upbeat and original pop—like its creator, a little exotic and cheerfully weird. The song hits like a ray of sunshine, jammed to the hilt with personality and punctuated by BENEE’s verbal tics. BENEE’s music runs the gamut of everything pop can be in 2020 and is filled with her quirks in the experimental indie sounds and the cartoon-ish sprawl of her lyrical imagery. Her fans have a naturally intimate connection with her deceptively easy-going pop and that thing she still loves to call her “BENEE-VISION.”

BENEE – Snail

NEW YORK, NY – AUGUST 10th New Zealand’s sensation BENEE unveils her new single “Snail” today—listen HERE!

On the feel-good summer hit, an upbeat bass line bounces between keyboard bliss as BENEE’s vocals groove into a chantable hook, “I’m like a snail, you’re a guy, kinda mad I can’t fly.” Electronic production, quirky nuances and entrancing delivery make this yet another unpredictable and undeniable anthem from the Platinum songstress.

Written and recorded with Josh Fountain shortly after New Zealand opened up from lockdown, BENEE was inspired to write the song after spending weeks in isolation. She says, “When we were in lockdown, I was fascinated by snails. There wasn’t really a lot to be doing, so I would spend a lot of time outside looking at snails and would think about how they’re doing their own little thing and they’re all free. I just played around with the idea of being kind of like a snail and how I come out in the rain. Being stuck inside because of COVID, it’s kind of my lockdown song.”

“Snail” follows BENEE’s recently released enchanting single “Night Garden” feat. Kenny Beats & Bakar, which has been praised by press across the globe, including Billboard, E! Online, Clash Magazine, Coup De Main, DIY, The FADER, HYPEBEAST, NME, Stereogum, The Sunday Times, Teen Vogue, UPROXX and many more. BENEE performed a stunning, stripped-back version of the song for MTV PUSH—watch it here.

“Supalonely” feat. Gus Dapperton, which is now Certified Platinum in the U.S. in addition to seven other countries including New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Mexico and more. She has amassed over 1.7 billion streams worldwide and is currently climbing up the U.S. Top 40 Radio Chart and sitting at #8 this week.

Earlier this summer, Apple Music announced BENEE as the newest Up Next artist, as she made history as Apple Music’s first Up Next artist from New Zealand. BENEE also made her U.S. television debut performing “Supalonely” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and The Ellen DeGeneres Show. In addition, she was selected as MTV’s PUSH Artist for the month of June.

Conan Gray
Conan Gray has quickly cemented himself as one of the freshest voices in music during his meteoric two year rise. The singer-songwriter from central Texas, known for writing all his songs from his bedroom and for his unapologetic authenticity, has quickly amassed one of the most engaged, rabid fanbases in the music industry. He first gained attention when he uploaded his song “Idle Town” online, which he recorded from his bedroom in Texas. Upon release, the song exploded and lead to the release of his critically acclaimed Sunset Season EP. He soon made his debut tv appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers and was featured in Vogue, VMan, Teen Vogue, Paper, The Fader, MTV, I-D, Billboard, Wonderland, Clash, Notion, Seventeen and more. The album notably bowed in the Top 5 of the Billboard Top R&B Albums Chart, Top 5 of the Apple Music R&B/Soul Albums Chart, Top 5 of the iTunes R&B/Soul Albums Chart, and Top 10 of the Apple Music Overall Albums Chart. It has impressively gathered over 30 million streams in addition to receiving tastemaker praise from ELLE, Billboard, Highsnobiety, Vibe, and many more. She also made history by shooting the entire music video for the single “Chocolate” feat. Ari Lennox.

Just who is Kiana Ledé? On the one hand, you know her as a fierce and fiery force in R&B responsible for bangers such as the platinum-certified “EX,” “Mad At Me” and “Chocolate” feat. Ari Lennox and has received over 1 billion streams globally and praise from Complex, Vibe, Billboard, ROLLACOASTER Magazine and more. On the other hand, you may recognize her from series such as “Scream” and “All About The Washingtons.” But, who is she? “KIKI,” she answers. On her aptly titled full-length debut, she reveals every side of herself: the vulnerability, the vitality, the anger, the lust, the loyalty, the joy, the darkness, and the truth as evinced on song.

Long before all of this, the songstress “from South Phoenix with Black, Mexican, Native American, and White ancestry” grew up between divorced parents. She played classical instruments and competed in pageants — but popped wheelies on dirt bikes and got under the hood to fix a car or two. Eventually, an adventurous spirit carried her from Arizona to Los Angeles where she began a journey that comes full circle in 2020.

Jeremy Zucker
Growing up in suburban New Jersey, 24-year-old singer, songwriter and producer Jeremy Zucker has always been surrounded by music. Since then, he has released four EP’s with breakthrough singles, such as Gold Certified singles, “talk is overrated” featuring blackbear and “all the kids are depressed,” and his biggest song to date, “comethru,” which is Platinum Certified and has surpassed over one billion streams. In 2019, he collaborated with Chelsea Cutler on brent and their Gold Certified global viral hit, “you were good to me.” Overall, Zucker has already crossed over a staggering 3 billion total streams on his catalogue, as this year he celebrated the release of his debut album love is not dying and recently released single “supercuts” out now.

Benee – “Night Garden”

BENEE RELEASES NEW SINGLE “NIGHT GARDEN” FEAT. KENNY BEATS & BAKAR

“SUPALONELY” ACCUMULATES OVER 1 BILLION STREAMS WORLDWIDE

ANNOUNCED AS APPLE MUSIC UP NEXT ARTIST AND FIRST EVER NEW ZEALAND UP NEXT ARTIST

RECENT APPEARANCES ON THE TONIGHT SHOW STARRING JIMMY FALLON, THE ELLEN DEGENERES SHOW AND SELECTED AS MTV PUSH ARTIST

Today, New Zealand’s sensation BENEE shares her new single, “Night Garden” feat. Kenny Beats & Bakar, out today—listen HERE  and watch the lyric video HERE!

For the track, the songstress recruited tastemaker-approved and Elton John-and Virgil Abloh-endorsed London artist Bakar and influential hip-hop producer and beatsmith Kenny Beats [Vince Staples, Freddie Gibbs, Denzel Curry, Rico Nasty]. Together, these three disruptors cook up an entrancing and engaging anthem. Unmistakable and unpredictable production from Beats twists through airy guitar as BENEE hums the haunting hook, “In the night garden, things are out there creeping.” Meanwhile, Bakar turns up with a clever and catchy cameo of his own. The track unites three diverse and dynamic talents from three cultures on one broodingly bold bop unlike anything else any of them have done.

The session with Kenny Beats in his legendary LA studio The Cave was one of BENEE’s first experiences recording music outside of New Zealand. She explains, “It was awesome working with him, he was so fast making the beat that it was also probably the fastest I have ever had to write a song ha ha!”

Knowing she wanted a feature on the track, she turned to Bakar, who she says “has the coolest voice, so I felt it would be sick to have him on it!”

“Night Garden” follows BENEE’S breakthrough smash hit “Supalonely” feat. Gus Dapperton, which has received critical acclaim across the globe. The song has amassed 1.3 billion streams worldwide and is currently charting at #13 on the U.S. Top 40 Radio Chart. Recently, BENEE performed the song with Gus Dapperton on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Both performances were shot socially distant, but with a twist (and a few special guests). In addition, BENEE was selected as MTV’s Push Artist for the month of June—check out her stripped-back performance of “Supalonley” shot in New Zealand’s Auckland Art Gallery HERE.

Not to mention, “Supalonely” feat. Gus Dapperton is now Gold Certified in the U.S., as well as Platinum Certified in seven other countries, including New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Mexico and more. It peaked in the Top 10 on Spotify’s Global Top 50 Chart and BENEE currently sits as “The 86th Most Listened To Artist In The World” on the platform. Within a short time, BENEE has gone from canvasing Soundcloud with covers out of her teenage bedroom to rising on the charts and amassing over 1.7 billion streams across her catalogue.

This week, Apple Music announced BENEE as the newest Up Next artist, Apple Music’s monthly artist initiative geared towards identifying, showcasing and elevating rising talent. BENEE – LOWNELY

New Zealand’s indie pop sensation BENEE unveils “Lownely,” a brand new rendition of her breakthrough international smash “Supalonely” feat. Gus Dapperton—listen HERE!

BENEE strips down “Supalonely” to raw elements of ethereal guitar, delicate production and lush strings. Her vocals and lyrics echo with emotion over the dreamy and soulful soundscape. Recorded with producer Josh Fountain at Golden Age Studio the night that New Zealand went into COVID-19 lockdown, “Lownely” was made in the last few hours before the midnight curfew.

Of the song, BENEE says, “I decided that I wanted to show a different side to the song seeing as when I wrote it, I was actually at a pretty low point. I wanted to fully commit to making a really sad song (.: My guitar player Tiare came up with the guitar parts, which I loved! I wanted to create a slow, sad indie vibe, and she did a really awesome job of this! We ended up getting it mixed by Dilip Harris in the UK, who does a lot of work for King Krule (who I love). I thought he would really complement the style of the song.”

“Supalonely” eclipsed 400 million total streams and counting, as well 1.8 million-plus in global consumption. BENEE also recently emerged as “The 94th Most Listened to Artist in the World” on Spotify, and “Supalonely” peaked in the Top 10 of the platform’s Global Top 50 Chart.

Within a short time, BENEE has gone from canvasing Soundcloud with covers out of her teenage bedroom to rising on the charts with “Supalonely” feat. Gus Dapperton and amassing over 650 million streams of her catalog around the globe. Last month, “Supalonely” vaulted to #10 on the Spotify Global Top 50 Chart, #18 on the US Top 50 Chart and #58 on the Billboard Hot 100. Over the airwaves and online, the song has entered the Top 20 on the US Top 40 Radio Chart at #18 and has been used in 11 million plus TikTok videos, while earning 150 million-plus video views and counting. Other chart moves include #2 on the Pop Streaming Chart, #6 on Nielsen’s On-Demand Streaming Chart and #43 on the Top 200 Song Consumption Chart. In addition, the song has been certified Platinum in Australia and Gold in New Zealand, Canada and Norway, reached #1 on the New Zealand Top 50 and #6 on the Australian Top 50 Spotify Chart, Top 15 on the UK Airplay Chart and UK Singles Chart.

Critics have been raving about “Supalonely” with Pitchfork calling it “sun-dappled and funky,” Los Angeles Times hailing it “deeply infectious” and People Magazine praising it with “kids are loving ‘Supalonely’ but the legends are too” – referring to BENEE’s recent appearance on Elton John’s Rocket Hour Radio Show on Apple Music where he called the track a “global smash.”

This unprecedented run follows a massive 2019, which she capped off by taking home trophies for “Single Of The Year” [“Soaked”], “Best Solo Artist,” “Best Pop Artist” and “Breakthrough Artist Of The Year” at the New Zealand Music Awards in November. Adding to these accolades, “Soaked” and “Glitter” have also been certified Double Platinum in New Zealand and Australia and “Evil Spider” and “Find an Island” have been certified Gold in New Zealand and Australia. Her two EP’s, STELLA & STEVE and FIRE ON MARZZ, have also been certified Gold in New Zealand.

ABOUT BENEE
From her hometown in Auckland, New Zealand, breakthrough popstar Stella Bennett, aka BENEE, remains unphased, unchanged and almost impervious to the cataclysmic success coming her way since releasing her debut EP, FIRE ON MARZZ, last summer. Already her tale is one of eye-watering statistics and achievements: close to ten million TikTok videos made to her latest single “Supalonely” featuring Gus Dapperton, hundreds of millions of streaming numbers, the most added song on U.S. Top 40 radio and a collection of platinum records in her home country. Her story is international and expanding on the hour, across modern and traditional platforms. Her audience seems endless. BENEE, however, remains easygoing, centered and—most importantly—herself. It’s not yet six months since the release of her second EP of 2019, STELLA & STEVE, garnered knockout reviews.

“A Kiwi Pop Star In the Making” – Pigeons & Planes

New Zealand’s indie pop sensation BENEE returns with the video for “Supalonely” featuring Gus Dapperton, today—watch HERE! “Supalonely” is featured on her latest EP, STELLA & STEVE, released to critical acclaim in November.

BENEE worked with rising Australian director, Rome, on the video. Explaining how she wanted the video to match the song’s colorful and fun mood but also convey its contrasting lyrical theme, she says, “It starts with me being a lonely teen at home then turns into this weird dreamscape, where I end up dancing around with Gus who appears through a TV screen in the lounge!”

Gus Dapperton chimes in, saying, “It was a really seamless shoot, and the final product is a great depiction of the song!”

BENEE will be back in North America this spring for the biggest headline tour of her burgeoning career. The tour kicks off on April 21st in Santa Ana at Constellation Room and makes stops in Los Angeles at The Roxy Theatre on April 24th, Brooklyn at Music Hall of Williamsburg on May 7th and more. Californian artist Remi Wolf joins BENEE for most dates on the tour, which promises to make for a riotously funky night out. See the full list of upcoming dates below. Tickets go on sale Friday, February 7th at 10:00am local time.

2019 was a monumental year for BENEE, as her music buzzed on the hippest playlists with a fervent audience growing around her groove-drenched sound and quirky lyrical-take on the world. Her latest hit “Glitter” and breakout single “Soaked” have each passed 30 million Spotify streams, with “Glitter” featured on Spotify’s “Pop Rising,” “TGIF” and “Indie Pop” and Apple Music’s “Indie Pop” and “Pop Deluxe” playlists. The song is certified Platinum in both New Zealand and Australia, while “Soaked” is now Double Platinum in her home country and Platinum in Australia.

BENEE claimed four New Zealand Music Awards in November, taking home trophies for “Single Of The Year” for “Soaked,” “Best Solo Artist,” “Best Pop Artist” and “Breakthrough Artist Of The Year.” She proved her growing domination down under by taking three places in the listener-voted Triple J Hottest 100 2020 in January. The influential Australian song poll ranked “Glitter” at #19, “Find an Island” at #25 and “Evil Spider” at #52 among the best songs of the year. BENEE also recently performed “Glitter” and her own unique take of James Blake’s “Mile High” featuring Travis Scott for Triple J’s Like A Version.

Stay tuned for more from BENEE in 2020!

ABOUT BENEE
Vi·sion·ar·y – as defined by Google – is a (noun) person with original ideas who plans the future with imagination or wisdom. With both traits in abundance well beyond her age, New Zealand’s BENEE redefines the word. Carving out a space between indie pop and R&B, she deconstructs modern “pop music” to create a sonic landscape all her own. Growing up in suburban Auckland, New Zealand among a community of creatives, BENEE was immersed in the arts from a young age, and after releasing a series of self-released GarageBand covers on SoundCloud, she was soon writing and recording at Golden Age Studio with producer Josh Fountain in her senior year of high school. Just two weeks after enrolling in university, BENEE dropped out with a now unstoppable and feverish conviction to pursue music full-time. After releasing her Double Platinum-Certified breakout single “Soaked (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubE_ac2wYPQ) ” in 2018, what she refers to as her ‘BENEEvision’— or “the idea that all of my music, visuals and content contribute to a greater artwork.”—immediately hit home.

BENEE “Lil North America Tour”

Today, buzzing 19-year-old indie pop artist BENEE announces she will play a slew of headline dates in North America this October for her “Lil North America Tour”—including shows in Brooklyn, Boston, Washington, D.C. and Toronto—see the list of dates below. Tickets will go on sale on Saturday, August 16th at 9:00AM ET via http://benemusicc.com/.

BENEE recently made her mark on the world with her debut EP, FIRE ON MARZZ, released earlier this summer to widespread critical acclaim. The EP features her lead single “Glitter,” as well as her breakout hit “Evil Spider.” In celebration of the EP, BENEE has been performing shows to sold out audiences across New Zealand, Australia and Europe, as well as a whirlwind US debut in New York and LA earlier this year.

BENEE has emerged as New Zealand’s artist to watch with her chart-topping hit “Soaked,” which quickly climbed Spotify’s Viral Charts, accumulated over 22 million streams to date, charted on Australia’s Triple J radio’s Hottest 100 of 2018 and held the number one spot on New Zealand’s Shazam Top 100 for two months, not to mention achieved Platinum Certification in New Zealand and Gold Certification in Australia. With endorsements from Zane Lowe and Apple’s Beats1 radio, BENEE went from playing her first small club gig to her first arena show—opening for longtime role model Lily Allen—in a matter of months.
