Ivory Layne – Confetti

Rising Nashville-based singer songwriter Ivory Layne releases her debut EP ‘Confetti’ today, alongside focus track ‘Lonely Hearts’.

A collection of powerfully emotive songs that shows the breadth of and scope of Layne’s talents, the ‘Confetti’ EP includes critically acclaimed singles ‘December’, a surging rush of modern day soul pop, and Layne’s rousing feminist anthem ‘God Save The Queens’.

Meanwhile, the heart-crushing title track outlines just why Billboard tipped her to become “the new Adele”, while ‘Lonely Hearts’ is a sublime combination of classic songwriting and widescreen production that places her in the sphere of contemporary pop polymaths like Maggie Rogers.

Produced by Nick Atkinson and Edd Holloway aka The Barn Productions (Lewis Capaldi, Gabrielle Aplin, Dean Lewis) Jimmy Robbins (Keith Urban, Maren Morris, Miranda Lambert) and Ivory herself, the Confetti EP is Ivory’s first UK release since signing with Justin Timberlake’s development company Villa 40 and showcases the unique voice and masterful songwriting that caused Timberlake to sit up and take notice of Ivory’s talents.

Layne says‘In a world constantly asking “what do you believe?”, I see the Confetti EP as my answer. It’s been my musical collection of lessons learned over the last seven years, touching on themes of personal growth, heartbreak, love, mental health, and letting go. I began this EP having barely co-written, never been in a relationship, still new to Nashville, and with one academic trip abroad under my belt. I finished writing it last year in London, having visited so many times it felt like home, crafting songs about dates gone wrong for the right reasons and the beauty found in every season when you take the time to look. I’m still writing as I’m living, it’s the nature of art itself, but the Confetti EP will always hold a special place as the diary of my early twenties, where I’ve been and where I want to go.”

Tipped for stardom by the likes of Billboard, V Magazine and Live Nation’s Ones To Watch, Layne’s remarkable talent has garnered critical acclaim as well as attracting a wealth of stellar collaborators.

In just a few years, she’s worked with Grammy award-winning producer Ed Cash (Dolly Parton, Amy Grant) on her debut EP; collaborated with Andrew McMahon In The Wilderness and Needtobreathe; written for other artists alongside co-writes with some of Nashville’s finest including Jimmy Robbins, Shane McAnally and Lori McKenna. Layne’s sharpness in the writer’s room has also landed her two global ad campaigns, one for prestigious jewellery house Swarovski and another for cable giant, HBO.

The Confetti EP is primed to cement Layne’s reputation as one of the world’s finest, rising female talents.

Sam Johnson – Nineteen

Following on from the soaring success of his recent single ‘Changes’, which landed in Spotify editorial playlists such as ‘Pop Brandneu’, ‘Easy’, ‘Pop Relax’ and ‘New Pop UK’, was played on Apple Music’s Radio Show ‘New Music Daily Deutschland mit Aisha’, and highlighted in Billboard’s 10 Cool Pop Songs feature, British singer and songwriter Sam Johnson continues to build momentum for his forthcoming EP ‘Are We There Yet?’ with the release of his latest stunning single ‘Nineteen’ out November 20th.

WATCH THE LYRIC VIDEO HERE

Continuing the bold and thunderous sound that has become a theme of his latest offerings, ‘Nineteen’ sees Sam combine warm and wistful aesthetics with a truly anthemic production. Channeling his humble roots as a gifted acoustic singer-songwriter, the track quickly shifts gears and delivers a bright and euphoric texture that embodies the multifaceted feel that Sam Johnson has injected into all of his material to date.

Speaking about his new single, he said, “This one is a little more direct than the others. No hidden meaning here. It’s a very literal and biographical throwback to my fairly hedonistic last few years of school. My friends and I seemed far more focused on smoking high grade than we did on getting high grades and it certainly showed in our A level results. Still, they were some of the best days of my life, and this is a regret free ode to them. Interestingly though, I was born in 1995, and certainly not taking my final exams that year. The opening line ‘flash back to ninety-five’ can therefore be seen as a rare example on the EP where I gave myself artistic license to not be entirely honest, but instead allow some ambiguity because I liked the way the line sounded.”

‘Nineteen’ follows up the success of his previously shared singles ‘Changes’, ‘The Kids Are Alright’, the latter of which landed on Spotify editorial playlists Fresh & Chill, Pop Right Now and New Music Friday in the UK, Germany and Switzerland; Apple Music’s New Music Daily in eleven countries, and named Record Of The Week on BBC Radio Shropshire, and its follow-up ‘Peter Pan’, which found a home on Spotify’s Easy playlist.

Taken from Sam’s forthcoming EP ‘Are We There Yet?’ which is set for a January 2021 release, his latest collection is set to see him grow more as an artist and a human being throughout. “I create characters influenced by what I see around me,” he says. “A lot of the lyrics are touchstones of my childhood, and where I grew up… and the people that I grew up around.”

In recent weeks Sam Johnson was announced as a member of the Ivors Academy Youth Council. The newly formed Youth Council is made up of sixteen young creators from the Academy’s Youth Network, acting as an advisory group, which will form a central role in shaping the future of the Academy. The Academy’s Youth Network, which was established last autumn, is a growing and connected community of young creators and a hub of partnerships with Universities, Colleges and other non-academic organizations. The Network aims to empower and educate young songwriters and composers of all genres, and provide a platform at the Academy to voice views on music industry issues.

A driven and relentlessly ambitious artist, Sam Johnson’s story also owes a debt to chance. Fate dealt him an unusual card when Kevin Shields – My Bloody Valentine auteur – crossed his path, taking the fledgling talent into the studio for the very first time. “That was a real moment for me… that developed my backbone. It made me want to have that element of legacy. And he made me realize that it could be done.”

A country boy lost in the big city, Sam’s music has taken him from a rural setting to the London metropolis, but he’s driven by an extraordinary sense of purpose. ‘Are We There Yet?’ is a tightly bound EP, one where each passage speaks to the next. Overseen by My Riot at RAK Studios, the production is left deliberately raw, almost unfinished, so that the songs “could breathe, without over-cluttering it too much”.

Q – Alone

Q IS A ONE-MAN BAND IN THE NEW “ALONE” VISUAL, FROM HIS FORTHCOMING EP THE SHAVE EXPERIMENT

WATCH HERE. LISTEN TO “ALONE” HERE.

After debuting “Take Me Where Your Heart Is,” his first single from his upcoming EP set to release 12/11 with Columbia Records, Q is returning on a slightly darker and sophisticated note in the new “Alone” visual. Watch HERE. Showing his self-taught knack for musicianship, Q glides through various performance setups playing all the instruments present, simultaneously displaying his emotional state in the Loris Ruisser directed visual. Says Q of the song “it was something I wrote at a time where I actually felt alone. I remember later feeling really bad about that, because I wasn’t really, and I think I’d want people to listen to it and get that same feeling from it. That they aren’t really alone.” With “Alone,” Q is finding the peace in solitude.

TheHxliday- “Thank U”

Up-and-coming rapper, singer and songwriter, TheHxliday, has shared his latest single, a painfully honest and powerful track called “Thank U.” Showcasing his moody hybrid of dark pop, hip-hop, and alt-R&B, “Thank U” is the Baltimore native’s first new music since signing to Motown Records earlier this year and is the lead single off his forthcoming BatBoy EP coming in 2021. You can download and stream “Thank U” HERE.

“Kids these days feel the urge to take drugs to help cope with their emotions,”  said TheHxliday. “With ‘Thank U’ it’s a message saying ‘You can take drugs. You can take anything you want but it’s only going to make things worse.’ You don’t need that to heal they’re better things to do.”

Propelled by potent trap beats and dreamy guitar tones, “Thank U” is a vulnerable yet urgent meditation on turning to drugs as a coping mechanism for problems like depression. With his vocals shifting from soulful to raw, TheHxliday created the song in order to shed light on the mental health issues at the root of drug abuse for so many of his peers.

At just 18-years-old, TheHxliday has already made waves with hits like “Save Me,” an independently released track whose Cole Bennett-directed video has amassed over 5 million views to date. Soon after signing to Motown Records, he re-released his breakout EP Broken Halls with the addition of new tracks  “Late Night Feelings” and “Make A Move.” Check out Broken Halls here.

TheHxliday is at the forefront of a new wave of rock stars inspired by rappers, pop idols, and rock bands of the past. With his work already championed by major outlets like Complex and Lyrical Lemonade, he’s also featured on  Familiar and Let You Down from Internet Money’s 2020 debut album B4 the Storm.

An ace at only 18-years-old, TheHxliday mixes his melodic flow and thumping trap beats to forge his sad boy sound. The rapper, singer and songwriter is a Baltimore native who creates hits straight out of his bedroom, expressing his singular and centric ideas to separate himself from the norm.

Inspired by the likes of Trippie Redd, XXXTentacion, Justin Bieber, Linkin Park, and My Chemical Romance, TheHxliday is paving his own path with the dynamic palette of dark pop, R&B, and hip-hop showcased on his EP Broken Halls. His biggest hit to date “Save Me”  is a banger, and just one of over 1,000 songs created so far. According to TheHxliday,  Save Me is a  firecracker compared to the bombs forthcoming.

Notable songwriting and production collective, Rock Mafia, have released Songs for the Eternal Optimist Vol. 2 via 12Tone Music – listen HERE. The divine pairing of Tim James and Antonina Armato – collectively known as Rock Mafia – has added their creative genius to the music of stars like Kehlani, ILLENIUM, Karol G, Miley Cyrus, Eminem, Zedd, Young Thug, Mariah Carey, and BTS to name a few, while also garnering critical acclaim for their own music.

Shaylen x Temporary Feelings

SHAYLEN RELEASES NEW EP TEMPORARY FEELINGS TODAY INCLUDES NEW SINGLE “ROLL THE DICE”

Today, Shaylen reveals her brand-new Temporary Feelings EP via The Heavy Group/Republic Records.

Listen to the Temporary Feelings EP HERE.

Regarding the four-track project, the critically acclaimed songstress commented, “This EP is a rollercoaster of emotions I went through over the last year, coming out of a really long-term relationship and thinking the world was ending. In the end, I reminded myself, everything—even feelings—are temporary.”

In order to capture these emotions like never before, she penned the songs acoustically for the very first time. She would either sit behind her piano or sing to nothing more than an acoustic guitar.

In addition, the EP talks about the emotional journey Shaylen has taken over the past year. The new single “Roll The Dice” is a power anthem about dating that brings us all the late 80’s and early 90’s Ace of Base feels. Produced by Loote’s very own Jackson Foote (Demi Lovato, The Chainsmokers) and co-produced by Tushar and Jeremy Skaller (Zayn Malik, Nicki Minaj), “Roll the Dice” is at once aggressive, vulnerable and nicely nostalgic sounding. On the other end of the spectrum, “Voicemails” talks about memories left behind from those who are gone, inspired by messages left by her late grandpa. “Sometimes, those voicemails are all we’re left with of those chapters in our lives,” she says.

Meanwhile, “Goodbye” takes a re-invented look at the classic Macy Gray track and updates it for a new generation on a tune about “saying goodbye to those crutches in life. While Shaylen was writing it, Macy Gray walked into her writing session and gave her blessing for the new take on the track!

She initially paved the way for the EP with “Forgive Myself,” which was the first track Shaylen wrote for the project and was written “after one of the hardest times in her life when I was really struggling with self-forgiveness as if I would wondering if I would ever move forward.” Upon arrival, Billboard touted it among “10 Cool New Pop Songs To Get You Through The Week” and claimed, “As far as brutally honest self-assessments go, ‘Forgive Myself’ is at once easily understood and affecting.

ABOUT SHAYLEN
Way more than a singer and songwriter, Shaylen might just be your shoulder to cry on, partner-in-crime, and the keeper of your most intimate truths. Spilling her secrets first, she doesn’t just welcome this sort of vulnerability as she does command it. She’ll open up about days on the floor in tears, share the mantras she spoke to the mirror on Instagram, and laugh about going home alone despite eyeing a dude across the bar like, “You gonna make a move or what, bruh?” Listening to her is like sharing an Uber with a brand new best friend. It doesn’t matter where you’re headed; you just hope the ride doesn’t end, because the conversation is so freakin’ interesting.

As a result, she racked up over 12 million streams in twelve months across her debut EP Highs & Lows, singles such as “Sprite,” and collaborations a la “Come Back To Me” with Chantel Jeffries as she twisted up pop, R&B, and alternative on her own terms. Not to mention, she garnered acclaim courtesy of BillboardJust JaredHollywood LifePopdust, and Idolator who predicted “[she’s] on the brink of a major breakthrough.”

However, she embraces listeners even tighter on her 2020 Temporary Feelings EP [Republic Records] led by the singles “Forgive Myself” and “Roll The Dice.”
