THE RONNIE WOOD BAND
MR LUCK – A TRIBUTE TO JIMMY REED: LIVE AT THE ROYAL ALBERT HALL

The Ronnie Wood Band return to the blues this month with the second instalment of his live album trilogy –‘Mr Luck – A Tribute to Jimmy Reed: Live at the Royal Albert Hall’. Released by BMG today, September 17, 2021, the 18-track album features The Ronnie Wood Band including Mick Taylor with incredible special guests, Bobby Womack, Mick Hucknall and Paul Weller and pays tribute to one of Ronnie’s musical heroes and major influences, the Mississippi electric blues pioneer Jimmy Reed.

The album is recorded live at a memorable night at the Royal Albert Hall on November 1st, 2013. It features stunning tracks including “Good Lover,” “Ghost of A Man,” and “Shame, Shame, Shame.” With unique album artwork specially created by Ronnie, Mr Luck will be available digitally, on CD, as a vinyl release, and as a beautiful limited-edition dual-tone smoky blue vinyl.

When self-taught guitarist Eddie Taylor imparted his skills onto his friend Jimmy Reed, he surely couldn’t have imagined the effect this was to have on the Chicago blues scene. Backing up such luminaries as John Lee Hooker, he is best remembered for his work with his former student.

Sweet coincidence, then, that in 1974 another Taylor, Mick, would make way for Ronnie Wood in the Rolling Stones, paving the way for these two friends and celebrated guitarists to work on projects ever since. The culmination of this to date is Taylor’s place in The Ronnie Wood Band at the Royal Albert Hall for 2013’s Bluesfest, where they played the now-legendary set that would come to birth to this recording.

Ronnie comments: “Jimmy Reed was one of the premier influences on the Rolling Stones and all the bands that love American blues from that era until the present day. It is my honor to have the opportunity to celebrate his life and legacy with this tribute.”

This album marks the second iteration in a trilogy of special and personal albums by Wood and the band, celebrating Ronnie’s musical heroes. The first album, Mad Lad explored the work of Chuck Berry as an emotional commemoration after Berry’s passing just over two years ago. Ronnie toured with Berry and was a lifelong fan.

Fire in Little Africa

“SHINING” THE FIRST SINGLE AND VIDEO FROM FIRE IN LITTLE AFRICA IS OUT TODAY VIA MOTOWN RECORDS/BLACK FORUM IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE BOB DYLAN CENTER AND WOODY GUTHRIE CENTER

“Shining” is a celebratory song and video conveying the peak of black excellence that defined the Greenwood District 100 Years Ago. Watch the “Shining” music video here and listen to it here

Fire in Little Africa, a groundbreaking album of original material, written and recorded by a collective of Oklahoma hip hop artists to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Tulsa Race Massacre releases “Shining” today along with a striking visual. It is the first single from the album that will be released on May 28 by Motown Records/Black Forum in partnership with Tulsa’s Bob Dylan Center and Woody Guthrie Center. Watch, post and share the music video here.

“Shining” was produced by Executive Producer Dr. View and features Tulsa area artists Steph Simon, Dialtone, Ayilla and Jerica Wortham. The video was produced and directed by Boomintree Films with Assistant Director avitiuh.

Giving context to the video, Dr. View shares,”’Shining’ is a trip back in time to Tulsa in 1920, just before Black Wall Street was attacked, bombed and burned to the ground in the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. The video conveys the peak of Black Excellence that defined the Greenwood district 100 years ago and ties it to the Fire in Little Africa movement that is showing the world how Tulsa still shines today.” He continues, “We know that the story of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre is one filled with pain, darkness and trauma for Black people, but the story of Tulsa in 2021 is about the greatness that rose from the ashes. “Shining” humanizes the victims of the Tulsa Race Massacre, taking them out of the history books and showing them on a night on the town living life joyfully. That is what Greenwood was, is, and will always be about.”

ABOUT FIRE IN LITTLE AFRICA

The 21-track collection gets to the truth of what happened on May 31 and June 1, 1921 when a white mob descended on the streets of Greenwood, then a prosperous Tulsa neighborhood known as Black Wall Street, and burned down the business district, destroying roughly 1,500 homes, killing hundreds, and leaving thousands of Black Tulsans homeless. For years, this historic, albeit dire, chapter was left out of classrooms and textbooks as the city attempted to erase this part of its past. The artists heard on Fire in Little Africa get to the truth through urgent songs, recalling stories told and stories lived in hope to usher in a new era for Tulsa as they help the community process this generational trauma through music.

Motown Records Chairman & CEO Ethiopia Habtemariam said, “Fire in Little Africa is a powerful and timely project that will reward listeners with a sense of discovery. Not only does it examine a largely overlooked chapter in our history, the album also pulls the curtain back on the vibrant hip hop scene that has been Oklahoma’s best-kept secret. Like the citizens who created Black Wall Street, the artists of Fire in Little Africa are driven by creativity, love, and an uplifting, ego-free sense of community. The project aligns perfectly with Black Forum’s commitment to introducing the next generation of game changers.”

Stevie “Dr. View” Johnson, PhD, Manager, Education & Diversity Outreach at the Woody Guthrie Center | Bob Dylan Center and the album’s executive producer added, “Fire in Little Africa has evolved into a communal hip hop movement and we’re excited that we get to share the flavor, history and legacy of Black Wall Street with the world, in collaboration with the amazing leadership of the Motown/Black Forum family. We’re grateful for Ethiopia’s foresight in providing us an opportunity to share our important stories with the world. There are Black Wall Streets across the diaspora and we unequivocally know that Fire in Little Africa will inspire many people. In the words of Steph Simon, everything is us.”

In this feature, Rolling Stones noted, Fire in Little Africa is poised to teach the world about that long-suppressed history, from locals who grew up in a community that still lives with the aftermath of the massacre. Just as important, the artists involved in the project also hope it serves as a launching-pad moment for Tulsa’s hip-hop scene, which has long flown under the national radar

The album was recorded in Greenwood over a five-day period in March 2020. Studios were set up at the Greenwood Cultural Center and other locations, including the former home of 1921 massacre mastermind/KKK leader Tate Brady. The house is now owned by former NFL first-round draft pick and Tulsa native Felix Jones. The Tulsa World was on hand to speak with the artists involved in the historic sessions. Read the article here and check out the accompanying video here

“Fireside with Dr. View” is a weekly podcast featuring “Dr. View” in conversation with thought leaders in activism, academia and culture, centered on the movement behind the Fire in Little Africa music. Listen to “Fireside with Dr. View” here. Hosts Ali Shaw and Doc Free sit down with Fire in Little Africa artists, Tulsa community leaders and national voices for conversations on music and culture in the “Fire in Little Africa” podcast, which can be found here

Located in the Tulsa Arts District, the Woody Guthrie Center opened in 2013. The Bob Dylan Center is expected to open on the same block within the next year. Both are projects of the George Kaiser Family Foundation, the primary funder for Fire in Little Africa. The album is chronicled in a documentary film, which will be released later this year.

Fire in Little Africa marks the first new material released by Black Forum since the label’s relaunch earlier this year. Black Forum originally debuted in 1970 with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Why I Oppose The War In Vietnam, which won a Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album. The label reissued Dr. King’s influential speech earlier this year.

Morgxn Ft. Walk The Moon Reveal “Home”

LA-based artist morgxn and Alt-Pop four-piece WALK THE MOON have come together to reveal their take on morgxn’s standout single “home.” With dynamic visuals on the way, “home” seamlessly blends morgxn’s vocals with WALK THE MOON frontman Nicholas Petricca. The pair sang “home” for the first time live at morgxn’s Lollapalooza debut performance earlier this summer and decided to go into the studio to turn it into an official collaboration.

Morgxn about the single:

“When Nicholas from WALK THE MOON joined me at Lollapalooza on this song I felt something cosmic in that moment and the idea was born to make a new version. How often do you get to step back on the mic and sing with the feeling of singing in Paris, London, Berlin, Salt Lake City, Sacramento, Chicago, New York, Nashville… How often do you get to sing a song already knowing it has changed your life? That’s this version. That’s this HOME.”

Morgxn who recently released his debut album vital sat down with Rolling Stone GRAMMYs at Lollapalooza to shed light on his standout song “home” (over 10m streams) and a Robert Smith-approved cover of The Cure’s “boys don’t cry.” Additionally, his song “carry the weight” was the soundtrack to HBO’s chill-inducing “Share The Love” PRIDE campaign HERE and added to SiriusXM’s Alt Nation. Morgxn recently revealed a live, stripped down version of his single “carry the weight”, shot at Clubhouse Austin here and an intimate Baeble Music NEXT session and “Armed with just a piano, he let his voice shine, switching between powerhouse vocals and delicate vibrato” here.

Morgxn is currently on tour with Dreamers and Weathers, stopping in cities across the country from Atlanta to Columbus (see all dates below.) Previously, morgxn has toured with Phoebe Ryan, Skylar Grey, Miike Snow and X Ambassadors.

“It’s moving, raw and promises big things for Electric Light.” – Idolator

Following its release on Monday, three-time GRAMMY® Award-nominated and BRIT Award-winning multiplatinum singer-songwriter James Bay shares the music video for his latest track “Slide.Check out the “Slide” here and the video here!

On “Slide” and its beautiful video Bay said: “Slide was the last song written for the new album and it felt like a natural closer. Although it’s tone is sad and heavy, it’s essentially about connection – a theme which, with hindsight, this album is really hinged on – and hope, despite the fact it doesn’t always work out. I guess it goes back to the nature of why I love songwriting – because a song promises the possibility of connection with other people – so we chase those flashes of creativity even when they sometimes lead us astray.”

The outro to the song and video feature a reading of one of Bay’s favorite Allen Ginsberg’s poems: “Song” which begins with “…the weight of the world is love” and is read by musician David Ryan Harris who Bay brought on tour this spring.

“Slide” was featured as a World Record by Apple Music/Beats1 with Zane Lowe and proceeds the arrival of his anxiously awaited second full-length, Electric Light [Republic Records]—finally available everywhere next Friday, May 18, 2018. THUNDERPUSSY

THUNDERPUSSY LET LOOSE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED NEW SINGLE “SPEED QUEEN”

ANNOUNCE SIGNING TO STARDOG RECORDS & REPUBLIC RECORDS

Check out “Speed Queen” HERE

Seattle rock ‘n’ roll saviors THUNDERPUSSY unleash their brand new single “Speed Queen” today.

Get it HERE via Stardog Records/Republic Records.

The track, which premiered on Seattle Times yesterday, properly introduces audiences to the fearless fem-powered four-piece–Molly Sides [vocals], Whitney Petty [guitar], Leah Julius [bass], and Ruby Dunphy [drums]. The band also recently filmed a cinematic music video to accompany the track, which will be unveiled very soon.

About the song, the band noted “Speed Queen’ is a motorcycle-musical love story that mirrors the real-life affair between its narrator and its namesake, Whitney Petty and Molly Sides.”

Petty continues the narration and said: “I got the title from an old coin laundry joint in Seattle that was full of high powered dryers labeled, “Speed Queen.” I always imagined a “Speed Queen” as this mythical character with a checkered past who led a female motorcycle gang. Then when I started writing the song– it became clear that I was writing about my partner– Molly Sides. That’s where the line, “I was looking for her, she was looking for me,” came from, among other things…”

In addition, THUNDERPUSSY proudly announce their signing to Stardog Records/Republic Records. The group is readying themselves for more music in 2018 after working in studio with producer Sylvia Massy [Johnny Cash, Tool].

Thunderpussy. If Thor’s Hammer of the Gods from “Immigrant Song” landed in the hands of four wise, willful, and wild women? Well, it would sound something like Thunderpussy. The quartet–Molly Sides [vocals], Whitney Petty [guitar], Leah Julius [bass], and Ruby Dunphy [drums]–do the most rock ‘n’ roll thing possible and quite literally fuck up every rock ‘n’ roll stereotype you know to be true, piercing the halls of Valhalla in the process. The Seattle-based group turned into a quiet phenomenon with the endorsement of Rolling Stone and Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready as well as a string of already legendary performances under their high-waisted belts. Look out for more music from Thunderpussy soon!

Stardog Records was created by PolyGram Records in 1989 exclusively an imprint for Seattle glam-rock act Mother Love Bone and the group’s releases with subsidiary Mercury Records. The label’s name is a nod to the Mother Love Bone song “Stardog Champion.” In partnership with Republic Records, Stardog Records was revitalized in 2016. Picking up where history left off, Stardog released the official soundtrack for Showtime’s Roadies and recently signed Seattle rock band Thunderpussy.

CARDI B × BACARDÍ

BACARDÍ Presents Dress To Be Free with Performances by Cardi B and Les Twins

What: Last night, BACARDÍ toasted Halloween with “Dress To Be Free,” a celebration of the beauty of those who wake up every day and dress to be their truest selves. BACARDÍ and friends joined forces for an evening of dance, liberation, creative expression and of course, cocktails, with featured performances by chart topper Cardi B and dancers Les Twins.

Cardi B
, whose Rolling Stone cover debuted earlier in the day, arrived in true Cardi B fashion – lighting up the red carpet donning a “Bruella” de Vil costume, black and white fur coat and matching hairdo, long red gloves, a black embellished bustier, and a long cigarette holder. Sadly her new rock – nor her new fiancée – made an appearance atop her satin gloves, as it is currently getting resized. Other notable guests walking the carpet included DJs Nina Sky, actor Broderick Hunter, and models Vashtie Kola, Jordun Love, Slick Woods, and more.

Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed the spirit and uniqueness of the Caribbean with the BACARDÍ Zombie, a tiki cocktail made with BACARDÍ Superior and BACARDÍ Gold, as well as exciting surprises from House of Yes.

The evening culminated with an energetic performance from Cardi B, who performed her Billboard number one hit “Bodak Yellow” along with “Lick”, “Motorsports”, “No Limit”, and “Foreva.” She greeted the crowd in full Cruella character – yelling “what up poor people” in her signature way, followed by “despicable, despicable, despicable,” to the crowds’ bemusement.

Before she left the stage Cardi B encouraged guests to dress however they want and be whoever they want, which is what the #DresstobeFree movement means to her. She reminded the crowd that her name, Cardi B, is a nickname for Bacardi, and that she was honored to perform at the BACARDÍ Dress to be Free event.

Guests were also treated to an exclusive dance set from Parisian dancers and choreographers Les Twins, who have graced the stages with Beyoncé and Missy Elliott. Les Twins shocked partygoers as they took to the stage unexpectedly – dancing to get the crowd going and spraying them with water before letting Nina Sky, dressed as twin nuns, reclaim the DJ booth.
