ALESSO × MARSHMELLO × JAMES BAY — CHASING STARS

GRAMMY-nominated producer and dance artist Alesso joins forces with Marshmello featuring GRAMMY nominated singer-songwriter and guitarist James Bay for the invigorate release of “Chasing Stars” – a sublime and soulful new uplifting single that finds each superstar at the top of his game. Out now via 10:22PM/Astralwerks, “Chasing Stars” is accompanied by a wildly imaginative video that succinctly captures the song’s mood of dreamy nostalgia. Listen here and check out the video here.

A beautifully detailed look back at a broken relationship, “Chasing Stars” opens on a poignant, piano-accompanied vocal performance from Bay (who also created the single’s enchanting artwork). From there, Alesso and Marshmello work their undeniable magic, layering in driving beats and folk-infused guitar work before building to a heart-stopping drop. Equal parts bittersweet and euphoric, “Chasing Stars” then transforms into a full-tilt anthem, its chorus lit up in gloriously soaring synth lines that perfectly reflect the track’s no-regrets sentiment.

Directed by Jake Jelicich (Dua Lipa, Niall Horan), the fantastically surreal visual for “Chasing Stars” finds Bay working the counter at a video store and scanning through a stack of VHS tapes. As the video unfolds, he becomes more and more mesmerized by the deeply intimate, home-movie-like scenes onscreen – and by the beguiling woman who appears in each tape – and soon ends up fully transported into those memories. In a particularly clever twist, the video store’s walls are plastered with posters bearing images of Alesso and Marshmello. In addition, a number of the VHS sleeves also feature Alesso and Marshmello, brilliantly stylized in classic B-movie aesthetic.

“Chasing Stars” arrives as the follow-up to PROGRESSO VOL 2, a long-anticipated two-track release that Alesso shared in early June. The second installment in a series that began with 2019’s ALESSO MIXTAPE – PROGRESSO VOLUME 1, the release includes “TOGETHER” (a massively catchy floor-filler) and “AGAIN” (a forward-thinking techno track that also harkens back to rave classics).

About Alesso

A global maverick in the dance world, Alesso has repeatedly proven that his influence transcends boundaries and crosses over into countless genres – to that end, he’s collaborated with such eclectic artists as OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder, Calvin Harris, Tove Lo, Liam Payne, Swedish House Mafia’s, Sebastian Ingrosso, Hailee Steinfeld, Florida Georgia Line, Anitta, and more. With his past hits including the platinum-certified “If I Lose Myself” and gold-certified “Under Control,” the Sweden native has also found major success with “Calling (Lose My Mind),” which topped the Billboard US Hot Dance Club Songs chart. On Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, his massive breakup anthem “Let Me Go” – collaboration with Hailee Steinfeld and Florida Georgia Line – reached No. 9, while “Is That Me” peaked at No. 25. In 2020, he released a pair of hit singles: “Midnight,” featuring former One Direction member Liam Payne, and “THE END” with goth-pop singer/songwriter Charlotte Lawrence. To date, he’s performed at international festivals ranging from Tomorrowland to Ultra Music Festival to Electric Daisy Carnival, with his national TV experience including closing out GMA’s Summer Concert Series, performing on The Late Late Show with James Corden, and taking the stage at the AMAs.

About Marshmello

Marshmello’s star continues to rise as the famously masked artist breaks boundaries across the industry. With chart-topping singles and collaborations with the likes of Juice WRLD, Halsey, Demi Lovato, Bastille, Kane Brown, Selena Gomez, Jonas Brothers, and more. Marshmello has clocked almost a staggering 10.5 billion streams across Spotify alone, and with almost 45 million monthly listeners on the platform, he’s one of the top 30 most streamed artists in the world on Spotify and the third most subscribed artist on YouTube. Featured on the cover of the Forbes magazine “30 Under 30” issue Marshmello has proved to not only be an innovative producer, but a forward-thinking businessman. With his own brand of chocolate-filled marshmallows (“Stuffed Puffs”), he’s also launched a children’s entertainment channel Mellodees. Most recently Marshmello collaborated with the Jonas Brothers on their early summer smash “Leave Before You Love Me” which peaked at number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100.

About James Bay

For as much as James Bay upholds traditions of timeless songcraft, the UK singer, songwriter, guitarist, and producer also confidently challenges himself and popular music. He spikes a tried-and-true style with clever lyricism, honest confessions, and instrumental proficiency. On the heels of his platinum- certified 2015 debut Chaos And The Calm, he garnered GRAMMY nods in the categories of Best New Artist, Best Rock Album, and Best Rock Song for the gold-selling single “Hold Back The River.” Meanwhile, “Let It Go” went triple platinum. Nominated for dozens of awards, he took home two BRIT Awards, two Q Awards, and top honors at the Ivor Novello Awards and ECHO Awards. Tallying nearly 7.5 billion streams by 2021, he has performed on Saturday Night Live,&#a0;The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Jimmy Kimmel LIVE!, and Late Night with Seth Meyers. He also notably duetted with icons such as Alicia Keys on The Voice and Mick Jagger while supporting The Rolling Stones at Twickenham Stadium in London. In addition to selling out shows on four continents, Epiphone honored him with his own limited-edition James Bay Signature “1966” guitar. Following the success of 2018’s Electric Light, he deconstructed his sound to its bare essentials on the Oh My Messy Mind EP a year later hitting nearly 500 million global streams. It yielded the hit “Peer Pressure” feat. Julia Michaels], generating over 300 million global streams, received critical acclaim from Time, Rolling Stone, and Billboard and the next year saw James opening up for “Sheeran on his 2019 record-breaking stadium run. WATCH INTERVIEW  HERE

Yesterday, Glass Animals unveiled a stunning performance of their Platinum-Certified global hit Heat Waves on Good Morning America—watch their performance HERE and interview HERE! The band’s signature high-energy performance was shot remotely at Brighton’s iconic British Airways i360 observation tower during sunrise. Frontman Dave Bayley also spoke more about the song and its meaning with Good Morning America Digital—watch HERE.

Glass Animals have had a career-defining year with Heat Waves and their 2020 album, Dreamland. Not only did Heat Waves recently peak in the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart over a year after its original release date, but the band also performed the song during their first-ever U.S. awards show performance at Billboard Music Awards, were selected as Billboard Music Awards finalists for Top Rock Song: Heat Waves and Top Rock Album: Dreamland, and performed the track on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Ellen, and more.

Next month, Glass Animals will kick off their nearly sold-out North American Dreamland Tour, which sold over 135,000 tickets in the first 3 days of its on-sale. The run kicks off August 30th in Lewiston, NY and takes the band across North America well into 2022. The shows add to their already sold-out fall UK tour dates, previously announced 2022 Red Rocks shows, and confirmed festival performances at Bonnaroo, Life Is Beautiful, Firefly Festival, Outside Lands, and more.

Dreamland, the band’s hugely popular third full-length album, entered UK charts on its opening week at #2 (their highest ever scoring chart position, a massive 21 spots above their last album, Mercury Prize-nominated How To Be A Human Being) and charted inside the top 10 in the US (#7 on Billboard Top 200 Chart), Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland. The album clocked up 160 million streams in its first week of release. Over the past year, Heat Waves was crowned #1 on Triple J’s Hottest 100—an accolade not given to a UK band since 2009 with previous winners including Kendrick Lamar and Billie Eilish—receiving a sync placement on FIFA, then an organic Minecraft affiliation, whereby the YouTuber LoverFella (2.61M subscribers) rebuilt a Glass Animals fan’s base and surprised her with a meet and greet with the band who were waiting inside. Watch it HERE and the Extended BTS HERE. Earlier this year, Heat Waves peaked at #1 on the Alternative Radio Chart for 3 consecutive weeks and in the Top 15 on the Top 40 Radio Chart, a first for Glass Animals in their career. It also held the #1 spot on the ARIA Official Singles Chart in Australia for 6 consecutive weeks, marking the band’s first #1 single globally. Heat Waves has had over 800 million combined streams to date, peaked at over 2 million daily streams, and has received over 31 million views of the video on YouTube.

Delta Nove – Beyond

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA’S WORLD-FUNK PIONEERS, DELTA NOVE, RELEASE 8TH FULL-LENGTH ALBUM BEYOND; FIRST NEW MUSIC IN TEN YEARS, HONORING THE BAND’S CO-VOCALIST/SONGWRITER/DRUMMER DOMINIC FEEDAM AFTER HIS HARD-FOUGHT BATTLE WITH CANCER

FEATURING FUNK LEGEND FRED WESLEY (JAMES BROWN, THE JB’S, PARLIAMENT-FUNKADELIC), JIRO YAMAGUCHI (OZOMATLI), JASON HANN (THE STRING CHEESE INCIDENT), ADRYON DELEON (ORGONE)

PURCHASE/STREAM BEYOND

Today, Delta Nove has released their eighth studio album, a 16-song double LP titled Beyond. Relix exclusively premiered the full album earlier this week.

For Delta Nove, the past decade has been both transformational and tragic. Following their last record, Imaginary Conversations, the former Jambase Road Warriors of the Year chose to slow down their once-relentless touring schedule to stay closer to home, focusing on their families and their individual careers while continuing to collaborate as Delta Nove.

With a recording studio in Long Beach, California to call home and a core of seven musicians that had evolved into the band’s most cohesive unit, Delta Nove was poised to record and tour in support of a much-anticipated new album in 2018. Sadly, this plan came crashing down shortly after basic tracking on the album was completed when drummer, co-vocalist, and major contributing songwriter Dominic Feedam was diagnosed with cancer. After a hard-fought battle with the disease, Dominic lost his life in 2019.

Delta Nove called upon their most loyal fans to collaborate with them on a music video for their song Big Sky, a Dominic Feedam composition that has become a staple of the band’s live shows over the years. This video serves as both a tribute to Dominic’s memory as well as a love letter between the band and their fans.

After the initial shock and grief passed, Dominic’s musical family decided to honor their fallen brother by completing the album that they had worked closely together to write. So, in 2020, the surviving members regrouped to pick up the pieces, return to the studio, and finish the record; But no sooner than they started, the entire world shut down due to COVID. Despite the challenges that a pandemic posed, the band pressed on, holding sessions with one or two masked musicians until all overdubs and production were completed. With the album finally finished despite all the obstacles, but with many questions remaining as to what comes next, Delta Nove named the album Beyond.

Delta Nove’s eighth album, Beyond, is a passionate expression of a band at their most evolved level. The double-LP exemplifies the distinctly diverse world-funk sound that Delta Nove honed through more than two decades of playing together. Delta Nove’s live performances, affectionately dubbed the D-No Show by fans, are legendary in circles for taking dancers on a musical journey of globetrotting styles. This 16-song, 80-minute offering takes its inspiration from these live sets, seamlessly blending heavy funk, roots rock, reggae, Brazilian rhythms, afrobeat, and improvised psychedelic explorations.

To add even more depth to the album, the band calls on some of the friends they’ve made throughout two decades of touring; These world-class guest artists include funk legend Fred Wesley (James Brown, Parliament-Funkadelic), whose signature sound is on display during the classic-sounding instrumental jam Money Funk. Several guest percussionists are present on the record, including Jiro Yamaguchi (Ozomatli), whose syncopated tabla rhythms bring a world-music flavor to the modern go-go track Feet on the Ground, and Jason Hann (String Cheese Incident, EOTO), who takes up his djembe to solo over a massive Brazilian percussion ensemble on the rootsy samba-reggae original Samambaia. Also featured is vocal powerhouse Adryon DeLeon (Orgone), who contributes her soulful harmonies to four songs. And finally, Delta Nove’s original sax player and fan-favorite Rob Covacevich reunites with his old musical brothers for a guest feature on the band’s re-imagination of Fela Kuti’s Upside Down; aptly titled Downside Up.

Thankfully, the basic tracking for Beyond was all completed before Dominic Feedam became too ill to play and sing. So, Dominic is present on all sixteen songs, and his performance is nothing short of inspired; almost as if he was aware that this album would be his parting gift to his musical family. While many questions remain about what lies beyond for Delta Nove, the band hopes that this album serves to honor the memory of their beloved brother Dominic, and as a testament to the never-ending pursuit to always go Beyond.

About Delta Nove

Born in a garage in Long Beach, California, Delta Nove has put in some serious work since their first independent release in 1998, leaving a trail of deep funk, thunderous Brazilian drums, greasy horns, and psychedelic exploration wherever they go. After over well over 1000 shows across the United States, 8 independent releases, and years of musical evolution, the band has truly developed into a singular powerhouse of sound and rhythm.

The live show is where the band shines, connecting with their energy to the audience, never failing to whip them into a full-on dance party. Each show features a unique set drawn from a huge catalog of original material and unique covers, sprinkled with lots of improvisation and on the spot creativity.

Delta Nove continues to make their uniquely original music year after year, and have done their part to help define the sound of Southern Californian music and culture, as well as international cross-cultural pollination. With a long and storied trip across many years through cities, states, festivals, benefits, and beyond, Delta Nove has no plans to stop firing up crowds with their patented form of world funk.

Fire in Little Africa

“SHINING” THE FIRST SINGLE AND VIDEO FROM FIRE IN LITTLE AFRICA IS OUT TODAY VIA MOTOWN RECORDS/BLACK FORUM IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE BOB DYLAN CENTER AND WOODY GUTHRIE CENTER

“Shining” is a celebratory song and video conveying the peak of black excellence that defined the Greenwood District 100 Years Ago. Watch the “Shining” music video here and listen to it here

Fire in Little Africa, a groundbreaking album of original material, written and recorded by a collective of Oklahoma hip hop artists to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Tulsa Race Massacre releases “Shining” today along with a striking visual. It is the first single from the album that will be released on May 28 by Motown Records/Black Forum in partnership with Tulsa’s Bob Dylan Center and Woody Guthrie Center. Watch, post and share the music video here.

“Shining” was produced by Executive Producer Dr. View and features Tulsa area artists Steph Simon, Dialtone, Ayilla and Jerica Wortham. The video was produced and directed by Boomintree Films with Assistant Director avitiuh.

Giving context to the video, Dr. View shares,”’Shining’ is a trip back in time to Tulsa in 1920, just before Black Wall Street was attacked, bombed and burned to the ground in the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. The video conveys the peak of Black Excellence that defined the Greenwood district 100 years ago and ties it to the Fire in Little Africa movement that is showing the world how Tulsa still shines today.” He continues, “We know that the story of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre is one filled with pain, darkness and trauma for Black people, but the story of Tulsa in 2021 is about the greatness that rose from the ashes. “Shining” humanizes the victims of the Tulsa Race Massacre, taking them out of the history books and showing them on a night on the town living life joyfully. That is what Greenwood was, is, and will always be about.”

ABOUT FIRE IN LITTLE AFRICA

The 21-track collection gets to the truth of what happened on May 31 and June 1, 1921 when a white mob descended on the streets of Greenwood, then a prosperous Tulsa neighborhood known as Black Wall Street, and burned down the business district, destroying roughly 1,500 homes, killing hundreds, and leaving thousands of Black Tulsans homeless. For years, this historic, albeit dire, chapter was left out of classrooms and textbooks as the city attempted to erase this part of its past. The artists heard on Fire in Little Africa get to the truth through urgent songs, recalling stories told and stories lived in hope to usher in a new era for Tulsa as they help the community process this generational trauma through music.

Motown Records Chairman & CEO Ethiopia Habtemariam said, “Fire in Little Africa is a powerful and timely project that will reward listeners with a sense of discovery. Not only does it examine a largely overlooked chapter in our history, the album also pulls the curtain back on the vibrant hip hop scene that has been Oklahoma’s best-kept secret. Like the citizens who created Black Wall Street, the artists of Fire in Little Africa are driven by creativity, love, and an uplifting, ego-free sense of community. The project aligns perfectly with Black Forum’s commitment to introducing the next generation of game changers.”

Stevie “Dr. View” Johnson, PhD, Manager, Education & Diversity Outreach at the Woody Guthrie Center | Bob Dylan Center and the album’s executive producer added, “Fire in Little Africa has evolved into a communal hip hop movement and we’re excited that we get to share the flavor, history and legacy of Black Wall Street with the world, in collaboration with the amazing leadership of the Motown/Black Forum family. We’re grateful for Ethiopia’s foresight in providing us an opportunity to share our important stories with the world. There are Black Wall Streets across the diaspora and we unequivocally know that Fire in Little Africa will inspire many people. In the words of Steph Simon, everything is us.”

In this feature, Rolling Stones noted, Fire in Little Africa is poised to teach the world about that long-suppressed history, from locals who grew up in a community that still lives with the aftermath of the massacre. Just as important, the artists involved in the project also hope it serves as a launching-pad moment for Tulsa’s hip-hop scene, which has long flown under the national radar

The album was recorded in Greenwood over a five-day period in March 2020. Studios were set up at the Greenwood Cultural Center and other locations, including the former home of 1921 massacre mastermind/KKK leader Tate Brady. The house is now owned by former NFL first-round draft pick and Tulsa native Felix Jones. The Tulsa World was on hand to speak with the artists involved in the historic sessions. Read the article here and check out the accompanying video here

“Fireside with Dr. View” is a weekly podcast featuring “Dr. View” in conversation with thought leaders in activism, academia and culture, centered on the movement behind the Fire in Little Africa music. Listen to “Fireside with Dr. View” here. Hosts Ali Shaw and Doc Free sit down with Fire in Little Africa artists, Tulsa community leaders and national voices for conversations on music and culture in the “Fire in Little Africa” podcast, which can be found here

Located in the Tulsa Arts District, the Woody Guthrie Center opened in 2013. The Bob Dylan Center is expected to open on the same block within the next year. Both are projects of the George Kaiser Family Foundation, the primary funder for Fire in Little Africa. The album is chronicled in a documentary film, which will be released later this year.

Fire in Little Africa marks the first new material released by Black Forum since the label’s relaunch earlier this year. Black Forum originally debuted in 1970 with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Why I Oppose The War In Vietnam, which won a Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album. The label reissued Dr. King’s influential speech earlier this year.
