Kiana Ledé – KIKI

By Cassandra Yany

Platinum-selling artist Kiana Ledé released seven brand new songs Friday to expand her critically acclaimed album KIKI. These tracks help the Phoenix-born and LA-based singer to show more seduction, spirit and soul than she has before.

The deluxe version includes the single “Only Fan” featuring Jacquees, on which lustful verses, airy guitar and a steady beat create a throwback R&B energy. The two artists sing back and forth as Jacquees’ falsetto reaches a hypnotic peak. The album now contains a bonus track, “Youth” featuring GRAMMY Award-winning blues rock artist Gary Clark Jr., who brings smooth vocals and a head-bobbing riff to the song.

KIKI was first released on April 3 and earned a spot in the Top 5 of the Billboard Top R&B Albums Chart, Top 5 of the Apple Music R&B/ Soul Albums Chart, Top 5 of the iTunes R&B/ Soul Albums Chart and Top 10 of the Apple Music Overall Albums Chart. It has garnered over 50 million streams and received praise from notable outlets such as ELLE, Billboard, Highsnobiety, Vibe and more.

Recently, Kiana Ledé teamed up with Usher for “This Day” from the Netflix original film Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey.

About Kiana Ledé

Just who is Kiana Ledé? On the one hand, you know her as a fierce and fiery force in R&B responsible for bangers such as the platinum-certified “EX,” “Mad At Me” and “Chocolate” feat. Ari Lennox and has received over 1 billion streams globally and praise from Complex, Vibe, Billboard, ROLLACOASTER Magazine and more. But, who is she? “KIKI,” she answers. On her aptly titled full-length debut, she reveals every side of herself: the vulnerability, the vitality, the anger, the lust, the loyalty, the joy, the darkness, and the truth as evinced on song.

Long before all of this, the songstress “from South Phoenix with Black, Mexican, Native American, and White ancestry” grew up between divorced parents. She played classical instruments and competed in pageants—but popped wheelies on dirt bikes and got under the hood to fix a car or two. Eventually, an adventurous spirit carried her from Arizona to Los Angeles where she began a journey that comes full circle in 2020.

Summer Walker – Life on Earth

R&B superstar Summer Walker (LVRN/Interscope Records) continues her impressive winning streak after the release of her emo-leaning EP, Life on Earth. Debuting at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the Top R&B Albums chart, the five-track serving proves to be a healthy entree for listeners enamored by Walker’s candor and dulcet vocals. Featuring NO1-NOAH (“SWV” & “White Tee”) and PARTYNEXTDOOR (“My Affection”), Walker brilliantly collides with both artists, while maintaining her entrancing mystique as R&B’s prized gem. Walker’s streaming excellence continues to be her calling card, as Life on Earth netted an astounding 32 million streams its opening week.

Even the pandemic can’t thwart Walker’s momentum, as her legion of supporters came in droves from various cities for her recent activations. In collaboration with Amazon Music, Walker’s Life on Earth UFO Listening Experience allowed fans in Atlanta to receive a first glimpse of the project inside of their cars. With Walker’s pink UFO on-site, her devotees soaked in the galactic experience at various showings throughout the evening. On release day, Walker treated her Atlanta fans once again with her spacey Battle on Earth Laser Tag experience at the Westside Cultural Arts Center. The singer’s altruism continued when she whipped up her Life on Earth Ice Cream Shuttle experience for her fans in New York City. With social distancing encouraged, fans safely ventured to several locations in NYC to meet the space shuttle for free ice cream and space candy from the LVRN songstress. For the cherry on top, Walker chatted with Apple Music’s R&B Now Radio to discuss her new EP, her creative process and more.

Walker’s scorching success continues to be the talk of the music industry. After her debut project Last Day of Summer spent 35 weeks on the Billboard 200, she quickly bloomed into an R&B powerhouse with her 2x platinum breakout single, “Girls Need Love” from her 2018 project Last Day of Summer. Walker would capitalize on her success with her magnum opus, 2019’s Over It. Residing on the Billboard 200 Top 10 for 11 weeks, Over It birthed an RIAA Gold single in “Come Thru” with Usher and a platinum single with her lead record, “Playing Games.” Over It remained a dominant force on the Billboard 200, spending 38 weeks in the top 40 and 40 weeks in the top 50, solidifying her torrid run as R&B’s most elite vocalist.

Usher – I Cry

Usher releases “I Cry,” a song with an emotional response to this unprecedented time in our lives

Today, Usher releases a brand new song “I Cry,” which explores Usher’s emotional response to this unprecedented time in our lives.

Listen to “I Cry” here.

“This song was inspired by wanting to teach my sons that it is ok for a man to feel emotions deeply and to cry. Like many men, I was raised to believe that we have to be “tough” and not show our vulnerability, which I don’t want to teach them. While I was shut in during the Pandemic and watching the death of George Floyd, the ongoing slaughtering of Black men and women, the protests and the events that unfolded, I became very connected to the wider universal feeling of hopelessness. Like many, I grew increasingly frustrated by how slow things have been to change. I became very depressed thinking about all sons who have lost their fathers to police brutality, social injustice and violence; the daughters and mother’s too. So I returned to this song and realized it was intended for this time, so I finished it and here it is,” said Usher.

Usher will be donating his proceeds from the record to LISC, the Local Initiatives Support Corporation, which provides grants to Black-owned small businesses and communities. In addition to the release of “I Cry” today, Usher will also debut the track live tomorrow at Global Goal: Unite for Our Future – The Concert.
