Latinos Vote! Program Encourages Biden-Harris Ticket

Today, People For the American Way’s Latinos Vote! Program, in partnership with Win Justice, announced a six-figure, Spanish-language radio and TV ad buy in both the Reno and Las Vegas media markets focused on increasing Latino voter turnout to support the Biden-Harris ticket in the crucial swing state of Nevada.

The Spanish language radio and TV ads begin airing today and run through Election Day. The ad buy contrasts the Trump’s leadership with the Biden-Harris ticket, and highlights a number of pertinent issues for Latino voters in Nevada, including Donald Trump’s failure to act on the COVID-19 pandemic, the resulting economic impact felt by Latino communities, disproportionate COVID-19 infection and death rates in Latino communities, and instructions on how to safely vote by mail.

There are an estimated 32 million eligible Latino voters nationwide and 328,000 in Nevada representing 17 percent of all eligible voters in the state. This year Latino voters will be the largest racial or ethnic minority participating in a presidential election.

“It’s simple: Donald Trump needs to go because Latino families and immigrant communities cannot have another four years of dysfunction, delusion and disinformation that puts their lives at risk,” said President of People For the American Way Ben Jealous. “Under the Trump administration, life is worse for tens of millions of Americans. And the people who have felt the brunt of Trump’s racism and xenophobia are our loved ones, neighbors and friends. As voters, we have the power to change the future of this country.”

“When we talk about Latino voters, we are talking about Americans that have disproportionately felt the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on their health and in their pockets,” said People For the American Way Political Director Lizet Ocampo. “The reality is that Donald Trump abandoned Latino families in favor of cages for kids, ripping apart families. Trump’s absurd policies and abject failures disproportionately impact Latino communities and Latinos in Nevada must know that the only solution is to vote for the Biden-Harris ticket in November.”

“In election after election, Nevada has seen the power of the Latino vote, and we are committed to ensuring every Latino family has the tools they need to cast their ballots safely and securely,” said Win Justice Nevada State Director Gabriel di Chiara. “This year the opportunity to Vote By Mail will keep our families and communities safe while ensuring they can make their voices heard this election.  Our partnership with People For the American Way will help the Latino community in Nevada vote Donald Trump out of office and send Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to victory.”

“Many Latinos in Nevada and across the country have paid with their lives – or have lost their lives due to Trump’s failed leadership and failed administration,” said People For the American Way board member, civil rights and labor leader Dolores Huerta. “Women and Latinos are still the groups most infected by COVID-19 in Washoe County. Now, during the worst pandemic we’ve seen in one hundred years, under Donald Trump’s failed leadership, Latinos, especially immigrant families, have been left abandoned. Every eligible Latino voter must stand for justice and toward a future that respects all of us. The only way to do that is to vote for Biden and Harris.”

Win Justice is a group of leading progressive organizations, including Color Of Change PAC, Community Change Action, Planned Parenthood Votes, and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), formed to expand the electorate by mobilizing at least three million voters of color, young people, women, and union supporters in four key battleground states: Florida, Minnesota, Nevada, and Wisconsin. Win Justice will be particularly focused on the impact of vote-by-mail on historically marginalized Black, Latino, and Asian American and Pacific Islander communities and will engage these voters so they exercise their right to vote.

In Wisconsin, Latinos are changing the course of history. We removed Scott Walker, the Republican governor who didn’t care about our community. At the beginning of this year, our vote won state elections regardless of all obstacles. We have shown that our vote has power. Let’s vote for a leader with experience and a strong vision for our future. Let’s vote for Joe Biden.

In Wisconsin, Latinos are changing the course of history.

We removed Scott Walker, the Republican governor who didn’t care about our community. And earlier this year our vote won state elections despite the challenges and obstacles we faced.

We have already shown that when we organize and vote, we all win.

But there is still a lot to do and we need to make sure our voices continue to be heard.

We cannot wait for things to change, we need to vote.

This election we must elect a leader with experience, dedication, and a strong vision for our future and that of our families. Let’s vote for Joe Biden. This is a message from Voces de la Frontera Action.

Vegas settles in the very heart of Nevada, a state that is considered a motherland of gambling and entertainment. When you arrive in the neon city, be prepared to meet multiple celebs walking down the streets amid casual tourists. Do you want to take a picture with His Highness Elvis Presley? Easy! Dozens of artists dressed up as the King of rock-n-roll will gladly make a selfie with you.

Vegas never sleeps, just like people who visit this marvelous city. Tourists have a myriad of cool things to do in this dazzling place. You can start your trip from attending the legendary Mob Museum to learn more about gangsters and see another dark side of Vegas. Your next destination can be the iconic museum of Madame Tussauds (not to be confused with the museum in London), where you can take a photo with eminent celebs, like Britney Spears or Mike Tyson. You can dive into the atmosphere of luxury and burlesque in the notorious Burlesque Hall of Fame. Are you a huge Marvel fan? Then welcome to the Marvel Avengers Station featuring your beloved superheroes in a full size.

Top 5 unusual things to do in the neon city

Looking for more thrilling Nevada adventures?! For more demanded tourists, who want to get a truly mind-blowing and one-of-a-kind experience in the neon city, we prepared a list of the top 5 unusual things to do in Vegas.

Feel the spirit of the Wild West ghost town

The unique atmosphere of Wild West will never stop intriguing people. No wonder, as the world of brave cowboys, bandits, and saloons seems so mesmerizing and even a bit frightening (thus even more tempting). In Vegas, tourists have a unique chance to feel that Wild West thrilling spirit by booking a tour to the Wild West ghost town. The tour duration is 10 hours (10 AWESOME hours to be exact), during which visitors can learn the history of ancient cowboys, have a drink in the authentic saloon, and try their luck in gold mining. And don’t forget to purchase a cowboy hat as a souvenir from this remarkable spot.

Don’t miss the Titanic exhibition!

The sad history of the most famed liner Titanic is known to everyone. The film adaptation, directed by the eminent James Cameron, gave a second breath to the Titanic’s story and brought 11 Oscars to its creators. People still commemorate all those passengers who tragically passed away in the liner’s crash. In Vegas, you can feel the Titanic spirit as an actual traveler by attending the unique exhibition. You can step on the deck and visit recreated rooms of the legendary ship to get that realistic experience like the Titanic’s passengers decades ago. The organizers assure that those who visited their exhibition at least once would always keep Titanic’s story in their hearts.

Check the National Atomic Testing Museum

Whether you love physics or not, the National Atomic Testing Museum is a must-to-visit spot in Vegas. The museum stores unique pieces of weapons, video recordings, and letters from the times of WWII. Visitors can get a one-of-kind experience of the atomic testing and read the diaries of the prominent scientist Albert Einstein. You can discover the mysteries of atomic evolution and find out how contemporary geniuses continue their ancestors’ path by developing new top-notch technologies. You can put yourself in Sheldon Cooper’s shoes in the museum and find out what it feels like to be a talented physicist.

Visit the Red Rock Canyon

Nothing can beat the beauty of witnessing a picturesque sunset at the Red Rock Canyon. Millions of tourists annually attend this marvelous national conservation spot in Nevada. The views of the magnificent mountains and plains, incredible wildlife, and unforgettable hiking experience make the Canyon the most beloved sightseeing among tourists and locals. Visitors can book a camping tour and spend a night under the open-air, sitting near the fire and listening to the guitar. They can admire the beauty of the surrounding nature and landscape at an aerial view by booking a flight across the Canyon. This mysterious place won’t leave anyone cold.

Get unforgettable emotions in the Caesars Palace

Nevada is a gambling state, and Vegas is the heart of the most luxurious casinos and entertainment spots. When you are in Vegas, the No.1 spot to see on your map should be Caesars Palace. This magnificent place will change your vision of entertaining routine as nobody gets bored there. No wonder that this resort is titled the Palace because once you enter its doors, you dive into the parallel universe with the gorgeous halls, Michelin-starred restaurants, and lavish casinos. The majestic gambling area in the Caesars Palace will make you feel like George Clooney’s hero at Ocean’s Eleven. Visitors can have a tour in the Caesars Palace even if they don’t stay in the hotel. It is a dream place for gamblers and high rollers or casual spectators who want to feel that unique thrill.

Things to know when scheduling a voyage to Vegas

When you are in Vegas, you won’t let yourself get bored. However, there are some rules you must know when planning to visit the city of dazzle:

In Vegas, it is forbidden to drink alcohol if you are under 21.

You can’t stop a taxi on the street in Vegas. Taxis can take passengers only in the designated spots. Usually, they locate near hotels, restaurants, and casinos.

You can get married within an hour in any chapel if you provide your ID. Vegas marriages are the fastest and easy-going, though we can’t say the same thing about the divorces. When considering tying the knot in Vegas, better think twice not to pass through a tiresome divorce process afterward.

Take gambling mindfully! Though casinos and wagering activities are allowed in Nevada, there are many pitfalls that gamblers must learn before visiting a gambling spot. According to the WorldBookmakers’ experts, bettors can start wager on real money only if they set up a strategy in advance. A good strategy is a key to hit the bank on wagering and gambling.

Summing up

People who have been in Vegas at least once admit that this majestic city stole their hearts forever. If you plan a trip to the neon city, pick up the sightseeing you want to visit beforehand. You can schedule a shopping marathon, attend the largest museums in the area, go camping to the legendary Canyon, and try your fortune at the luxurious casinos. So many awesome spots and gorgeous places to visit along the way! Vegas is full of opportunities that you can discover firsthand.

Jake Paul FBI Raid

By Mina Tocalini

ABC News released footage of the FBI raid in YouTuber Jake Paul’s Calabasas mansion on Wednesday morning. The footage revealed several firearms being carried by deputies from the home, Paul was out of the state at the time.

Details regarding the investigation cannot be disclosed yet, but it is believed to be linked to the Scottsdale looting charges faced by Jake Paul and fellow YouTuber, Arman Izadi this past May. Paul has dismissed the charges on social media claiming to be “strictly documenting, not engaging” in the Fashion Square Mall protest.

Izadi’s ‘Graffiti Mansion’ in Las Vegas also underwent a similar raid the same day. Staff member Richard Ochoa commented to FOX 5 News that, “They did a search of the property, looking for a certain person that resides in Southern California (referring to Paul)”. Izadi seemed unconcerned with the raid as he continued to spend the day painting his house pink with a group of models for his ‘Barbie’ shoot.

MAGIC Cancels Live Event

Informa Markets Fashion announced today the cancellation of MAGIC’s Las Vegas fashion wholesale trade show at the Las Vegas Convention Center, which was set to run from September 30 – October 2, 2020. Instead, MAGIC, with sister shows, COTERIE, PROJECT, MICAM Americas, and CHILDREN’S CLUB, is in full swing to debut their digital trade event, scheduled to open on September 1, 2020 and run through November 1, 2020.

MAGIC, the largest domestic fashion tradeshow in Las Vegas, which includes WWDMAGIC, PROJECT, MICAM Americas, POOLTRADESHOW, STITCH, and SOURCING at MAGIC draws an audience of international and domestic retailers, brands, media, and industry influencers. With the offering of a comprehensive and centralized digital trade platform this fall, brands and retailers will benefit from an inclusive, location-free opportunity to connect and conduct commerce – bridging the gap created by the continued uncertainty of travel restrictions and health and safety concerns. This digital trade event – one of the largest digital marketplaces for fashion wholesale – is the initial step forward within a much larger, future-facing plan of collaborative physical and digital events for the fashion wholesale industry.

“Based on our discussions with partners and stakeholders surrounding health, safety, and travel concerns across the country, cancelling our late September Las Vegas event, while disappointing, is the best path forward for our fashion community,” said Nancy Walsh, President of Informa Markets Fashion. “Current climate aside, re-evaluating, re-adjusting, and continually maturing our business model has always been part of our company ethos. Our digital trade event is a natural and necessary first step in revolutionizing and innovating our business in a time that is primed for digital opportunity and outlets.”

MAGIC’s digital marketplace, powered by NuORDER will not only feature new and known brands across women’s, men’s and children’s apparel, accessories, and footwear, but like the live event, will also feature a robust line-up of educational programming and seminars. With a full 8-week run time, retail buyers will be able to leisurely explore a full library of shoppable editorials and engaging educational content, from tastemaker-curated roundups and retail discovery sessions to timely industry insights. The fusion of community and value-add content will generate a more efficient endless aisle experience of unique product discovery for retailers.

Additionally, participating brands will benefit from enhanced brand storytelling and the ability to make more informed merchandising decisions in real time through data analytics and NuORDER’S market-leading features such as digital catalogs, line sheets, 360 imagery, and shoppable hotspots to connect and conduct commerce. While the momentum is gaining to utilize this new platform and its technology, exhibitors are already gearing up for onboarding, with weekly webinar training sessions in full swing. Helping brands quickly become comfortable navigating the virtual showroom technology, each hour-long session features a comprehensive tutorial demonstrating platform functionalities and capabilities, followed by a live audience Q&A.

“From the very beginning of planning a digital component to our events, back in early 2020, we have been diligently taking strides forward to ensure a meaningful product was developed for our community. We have had our finger on the pulse of our industry and we have learned so much from our customers, partners, and community in the past few days, weeks, and months – their needs, wants, and hopes – which allows us to more confidently step forward this year and then further enhance our business into a dynamic and hybrid future in 2021,” said Kelly Helfman, President of MAGIC.

The Neon Museum

By Jeff Langlois

The four-hour drive from Los Angeles to Las Vegas consists mostly of the pristine and sprawling landscape of the Mojave. Travelers who make the trip after work and into the night know they’ve crossed into Nevada when the subtle glow on the horizon becomes increasingly stronger. This glow shines from Vegas’ unique neon signs. The iconic Vegas neon signs are more than glowing advertisements, they are pieces of history, and a nonprofit institution called The Neon Museum celebrates them.

Many of these historic works of art have been donated to The Neon Museum. One of these donations is the eighty-two foot tall Gibson Les Paul known as the Hard Rock. Another shining relic that can be found at the museum is the Andy Anderson sign of the neon milkman. Anderson Dairy was a staple in Las Vegas ever since its establishment in 1907 and the deliverymen were the source of fresh milk, since citizens of Las Vegas didn’t yet have refrigeration. Some signs ironically look like modern art sculptures, like the pool player made of sheets of metal, welded together to advertise Doc & Eddys pool hall. These monumental pieces of history transport visitors to a vintage version of the Las Vegas strip.

The Nevada Arts Council, National Endowment for the Humanities, and Nevada Humanities are among the various organizations supporting the space; which also can hold weddings, photo/video shoots, and events in general. For all ages, The Neon Museum has proven to be an unmissable intersection of Vegas history, rugged Americana, and creativity. Stroll through the museum for a uniquely retro stroll that will be sure to brighten your evening!

What are the best places to travel to on your own?

Travel is one of the best things that you can do to broaden your mind, experience new cultures, and have lots of fun. Many people, though, do not have friends to head off with, which makes traveling on your own a must. Before you go, you have to plan appropriately to get the most from any trip. If you chose to head to New Jersey on a break, it would be wise to look at sites, including the Tropicana Online Casino, so you had something fun to do in your hotel room during chill time. The same is true for other destinations within the USA or around the world. Looking at what the nightlife is like, what sights there are to see, and what there is to do in the day is sensible.

Of course, before you delve into the finer details of any resort or city, you need to pick the right place first. That is often a little trickier for solo travelers who have a slightly different set of priorities than those holidaying in a group. But which are the best destinations for solo travel around the world?

Cannes

Beautiful Cannes is in the South of France on the fabled Cote D’Azur. However, like most other destinations around the world, it has been hit by COVID-19 lockdown measures recently, Cannes plans to revive tourism soon. But what makes this place so great? First of all, the weather is superb during the summer months, and this makes it perfect for relaxing on the gorgeous beaches there while doing some people watching.

The café culture is also evident, so you will feel very comfortable when sipping a latte alone while watching the world go by. Cannes is also a very safe and welcoming destination, which makes it ideal for solo travelers. With a buzzing atmosphere and many other single travelers around, it is a fabulous place to holiday on your own.

Stockholm

If you fancy heading somewhere where Scandi cool is in full effect, Stockholm in Sweden is a reliable choice. Stockholm just has an air of laid-back charm that allows you to slow down and recharge your batteries. The city that you access via a series of bridges is spread across 14 islands, which makes it simple to get around.

It is also full of lovely parks and stunning architecture to marvel at while having plenty to keep you occupied. If you need help getting around, there is a fun guided Vespa Tour you can take. If you are a real foodie, there are numerous Michelin-starred restaurants around the city where you could dine alone in true style. With a friendly and cozy feel, this is a real gem for solo travel.

New York

You might not immediately think of New York as a solo travel hot-spot, but it is. With so much to do and so many people around, you never actually feel isolated. New Yorkers are famous for their particular charm, and this means you will always find a friendly face in cafés, bars, or shops. If you want a city that will also keep you busy, the Big Apple is it.

The shopping here is excellent (especially Fifth Avenue), and it gives you every chance to pick up cool souvenirs to bring home. Also, New York has many fabulous sights to see – from lovely Central Park to the Metropolitan Museum. If you fancy a change from dining and drinking each night, why not check out the best plays on Broadway?

Dominica

One surprising choice for any single traveler may be the Caribbean – after all, it is known as a honeymoon spot or a cruise destination. Dominica is a little different, though, and is somewhere that feels perfect for traveling alone. If you like an adventure when away, it is a great choice. The island has lakes to trek alongside and massive gorges to cave through. The wildlife here is naturally fantastic, and there is also some excellent accommodation for a reasonable price. You will always feel safe here, thanks to the welcoming local community, and it is an island that is very easy to walk around. With delicious local food and some charming bars to enjoy a shot of rum at, Dominica is a real hidden gem.

Solo travel spots are worth researching first

No doubt, checking out the best places to go alone before booking any trip is worthwhile. Doing so will ensure that you end up in a place where there is plenty to do, and that makes you feel comfortable being there as a single person. Hopefully the above has given you some fresh ideas on the most exciting places to try.

MGM Resorts Reopening

MGM Resorts International announced its planned June 4 reopening of Bellagio, New York-New York, MGM Grand Las Vegas and The Signature, following the closure earlier this year of all of its U.S. properties amidst the coronavirus crisis. At opening, amenities at all properties will be limited. As demand for the destination builds, additional venues within these resorts will open and other MGM Resorts properties on The Strip will reopen.

“Our hearts go out to everyone in the communities where we operate, and around the world, who has been personally impacted during this time of crisis,” said Bill Hornbuckle, MGM Resorts’ Acting CEO and President, “As we plan for these openings, the health and safety of our guests and employees is at the forefront of all we do. Getting many of our employees back to work and welcoming guests through our doors once again will allow us to do what we do best – entertain. The team is ready and we can’t wait.”

Key Initiatives include;

  1. A physical distancing policy will be implemented, with floor guides serving as reminder
  2. For areas where physical distancing presents challenges, plexiglass barriers will be installed, or other measures will be used to reduce risks
  3. Standalone handwashing stations designed by MGM Resorts conveniently located on casino floors
  4. Contactless Check-In through the MGM Resorts App will allow hotel guests to go through the check-in process on their personal devices, minimizing interactions
  5. Guestroom Attendants will wear masks and gloves while cleaning each room and will change gloves between guestrooms
  6. In addition to increased and enhanced routine cleaning of guestrooms and public spaces based on CDC guidance, electrostatic sprayers will be utilized in many large public spaces so that disinfectant is applied efficiently
  7. Digital menus will be available to view on personal mobile devices via QR codes in the company’s food and beverage outlets
  8. To minimize groups congregating while they wait, restaurant guests receive text message notification when their tables are ready

MGM Resorts’ full “Seven-Point Safety Plan,” designed in conjunction with medical and scientific experts to mitigate the spread of the virus, protect customers and employees, and rapidly respond to potential new cases can be viewed here.

The Mob Museum x Crime in Pop Culture

THE MOB MUSEUM DEBUTS “THE MOB ON TV,” EXHIBIT DEDICATED TO ORGANIZED CRIME IN POP CULTURE

The Mob Museum, the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, announces its newest exhibit: “The Mob on TV.” Comprising a collection of on-screen costumes and props from three iconic organized crime-based TV series – “The Sopranos,” “Boardwalk Empire” and “Breaking Bad” – the exhibit is on view in the Museum’s retail store.

While Mob movies dominated the twentieth century with blockbuster hits such as “The Godfather,” “Goodfellas” and “Casino,” the depiction of the Mob on the small screen gave rise to some of the most iconic television series of the twenty-first century. Both “The Sopranos” and “Breaking Bad” rank among the greatest series ever made, being named No. 1 and 3, respectively, by Rolling Stone magazine’s 100 greatest TV shows of all time.

Costumes and props in this collection include:

“Nucky” Thompson’s “Death Suit”: A three-piece suit worn in the series finale by Steve Buscemi, who played real-life Atlantic City crime boss Enoch “Nucky” Johnson in HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire.” The suit features a bullet hole where the character was shot. “Boardwalk Empire,” created by Terence Winter and executive produced by Martin Scorsese, chronicles organized crime in Atlantic City and beyond during Prohibition. The show’s five seasons (56 episodes) ran from 2010 to 2014.

“Breaking Bad” Hazmat Suit: The collection includes the hazmat suit and mask used during meth-cooking scenes worn by Bryan Cranston, who played Walter White in AMC’s “Breaking Bad.” This popular show ran from 2008 to 2013 for five seasons (62 episodes), following the transformation of White from a mild-mannered high school chemistry teacher to ruthless drug kingpin in Albuquerque, New Mexico. “Breaking Bad” was created by Vince Gilligan, who extended the story through a prequel AMC series, “Better Call Saul” and a sequel Netflix film, “El Camino.”

Tony Soprano in Casual Mode: A costume worn by James Gandolfini, in his role of Mob boss Tony Soprano in the HBO series “The Sopranos,” during season five, episode two. “The Sopranos,” created by David Chase, premiered in 1999 and ran for six seasons (86 episodes). The stories and characters were inspired by real-life Mob crime families in New Jersey.

“Boardwalk Empire” Tommy Gun: This submachine gun prop was used by “Nucky” Thompson in season two, episode eight of “Boardwalk Empire.” In the episode, Thompson receives crates of Tommy guns destined for the Irish Republican Army, which is rebelling against English rule. In episode nine, Thompson travels across the Atlantic to deliver the guns, which are smuggled inside a coffin that presumably holds his deceased father’s remains.

On-screen Gas Mask: This gas mask was worn on-screen during meth-cooking scenes in “Breaking Bad.” The drug-making chemistry in the show was quite accurate, from the rudimentary production processes shown in the early episodes to the “super-lab” scenes in later seasons.
