Lamborghini Huracán STO

“Can perform a corner without losing its speed, there is no secret, only a matter of overall balance.” Andrea Caldarelli

By: Conan Zhang, Elle Grant × Vaughn Lowery

The Lamborghini Huracán first debuted at the 2014 Geneva auto show, and it is nearing 17,500 sales nationally, making the Huracán of the most popular cars in the United States. In the year 2022, This legendary model displays its prowess in a powerful performance! The “Super Trofeo Omologato,” in short as STO, is making its name in the Lamborghini Huracán family.

The Huracán STO is the most powerful Huracán ever made, created with only one goal: to deliver the most genuine feeling of a track car in the body of a road-legal machine. The car is inspired by the racing heritage of Lamborghini Squadra Corse’s one-make race series, featuring the Super Trofeo EVO and also GT3 EVO model, which won 3 times at the  24 hours Daytona and twice at the 12 hour Sebring race. In this car model, drivers are provided with the opportunity to enjoy the ultimate race experience every time they take to the road.

Once again, 360 Magazine is excited to be invited to the exclusive Lamborghini Lounge NYC; the opening of this site coincides with the debut of Huracán STO! This private space is located at 533 W 26th Street in the heart of the Chelsea district. The space was designed in an extravagant way offering us and other users the most luxurious experiences. The sound system in the room provided by Bang & Olufsen brings forth a progressive listening experience, maximizing the atmosphere of rallies and parties that can be held in the space. All the rooms here feature Italian furniture by Living Divani, while the kitchen is furnished by La Dolce Vita, allowing all the guests to not only enjoy driving Italian but also living Italian. Most excitingly, 360 had the chance to see and drive the 2022 Lamborghini Huracán STO with the guide with a Formula 1 Racer from the Lounge.

Design

The exterior is designed to achieve the balance of being both powerful and functional. It inherits the appearance of the Huracán Super Trofeo EVO while being even more aggressive! The usage of carbon fiber in the model makes up 75% of the body panels, which means every part viewable to the consumer’s eye is made of carbon fiber. This unique configuration makes the car 88 pounds lighter than the Performante model.

The one thing extraordinarily unique about the design is in the front of the car. It is called the “Cofango” – a specially designed body component that incorporates the front hood and fender. It looks like a stylish clamshell made purely of carbon fiber resting on the head of the car and it can be lifted as a whole.

When we move our sight to the back of the car, there is an exaggerated double-profile rear race wing that can be adjusted into 3 positions. It will provide 714-925 pounds of downforce, equivalent to the weight of a highland cow! On top of the car is a central shark-fin along with several air scoops that helps drag optimization and an ideal aerodynamic performance. Compared with the Performante model, this vehicle is 37% more aerodynamic efficient.

Compared with the 2021 Lamborghini Huracan EVO RWD Spyder, which 360 had the opportunity to test drive last month, the drag coefficient is much better on the STO model, as the EVO is a Spyder version where the drag force is extremely high with the top down.

Performance

The rear-wheel-drive not only contributes to making this car’s ability to drift and turn in a more sophisticated way but also assists in making the car lighter than the AWD models. It is equipped with rear steering that makes handling even more precise. With a V10 naturally aspirated 640 hp (470 kW) power plant, it produces a torque of 565 Nm, at 6,500 rpm. These components combined provide an acceleration of 0-62 mph in 3.0 seconds, 0-124 mph in 9.0 seconds, and a top speed of 192 mph.

The brakes on this car absolutely provide us with a race evocative adrenaline! The CCMR Braking System, which is directly derived from F1, is now built into the carbon-ceramic brakes that help stop this speed monster in 3 seconds when driving at 62 mph.

Technology

When we settle into the driver’s seat, there features a delicate touch screen on the center of the console. New Human Machine Interface (HMI) is equipped on the car, which helps the users to control the drive mode, monitor tire pressures, and tracks brake temperatures. The car is exactly what is needed to be a champion on the track day on the weekend without sacrificing the high-end features of a technologically advanced model. What is more satisfying is that the STO Connected Telemetry System will record a splendid performance which drivers can use to check our phones anytime and everywhere.

There are 3 driving modes that one can choose on the steering wheel – STO mode which is for daily driving, Trofeo mode which is for a fast and furious track driving experience, and Pioggia mode that adds huge traction designed expressly for driving on the wet surface.

Besides those technical features that help monitor the Huracán’s day-to-day performance, this car also features more classic modern features such as Apple Car Play and USB cables for convenience on the daily commute!

Conclusion

This stunning beast of a vehicle starts at USD 327,838, which is surely more expensive than the RWD Huracán EVO. People may doubt whether it is worthwhile spending more on a car that is both a daily vehicle and born for the track. The answer, from experience, is this STO model is a supercar of its kind and features peak performance qualities across the board – the STO stands in a class of its own. In a look towards the future, Lamborghini has announced that they will go completely hybrid on all model lines beginning in 2024. Despite this development, we are glad to still be living in an era where the STO still shines on stage, or rather, the track.

Bugatti × Rimac Partnership

Rimac Automobili officially joins forces with Bugatti Automobiles under the recently announced, Bugatti Rimac d.o.o. The new company sees two motor vehicle powerhouses generate an exciting movement in the automotive and technology industries, originally initiated and strongly supported by the sports car manufacturer Porsche AG.

Rimac’s short but rich 10-year history from garage start-up by one man, Mate Rimac, took a big leap forward to begin official operating under Bugatti Rimac as of November 1st.

The Rimac Group is the major shareholder in Bugatti Rimac with a 55% stake. Mate Rimac will retain his shareholding in Rimac Group at 35%, with Porsche at 22%, Hyundai Motor Group doing the same at 11%, and other investors making up 32%. The development, production, and supply of battery systems, drivetrains, and other EV components that Rimac is known for and trusted by, will be separated into a new entity, Rimac Technology, that is 100% owned by the Rimac Group.

Bugatti Rimac has the unique combination of two automotive and technological trailblazers. Rimac’s distinctive agility, technical expertise, and relentless innovation in the EV sphere, along with Bugatti’s 110-year heritage of design and engineering of some of the world’s most iconic hypercars, are now combined in the leading hypercar company. Porsche plays a strong role in the joint company as a strategic partner. Along with two managers, the Stuttgart based sports car manufacturer appointed two Supervisory Board members, Oliver Blume and Lutz Meschke.

Mate Rimac’s leadership and strategic direction that has allowed Rimac to become an industry frontrunner means he is exceptionally skilled to lead the company as Chief Executive Officer. As CEO of Rimac Group, he runs both Bugatti Rimac and the new division, Rimac Technology.

Bugatti Rimac’s global headquarters is situated at Rimac’s current base on the outskirts of Zagreb, Croatia, but in time will transition to the recently announced €200M and 200.000m2 Rimac Campus, also serving as the home of Rimac Technology. With construction having now begun, joint research and development of future Rimac Automobili and Bugatti hypercars will ultimately take place there, with projected opening in 2023.

High-tech innovation forms the basis of the state-of-the-art facility, with the capacity to host 2,500 curiosity-driven people and a hive of groundbreaking developments. Bugatti Rimac operates with 435 employees as part of the new company, 300 of headquartered in Zagreb and 135 in Molsheim, France. In addition,180 people at Bugatti Engineering’s location in Wolfsburg, Germany, are supporting the new company. Rimac Technology consists of over 900 employees whilst the Rimac Group tackles over 1,300 employees across its various locations.

Bugatti Rimac’s new Board of Management has determined Christophe Piochon as Chief Operating Officer. He formerly held the position of Director General at Bugatti Automobiles and guarantees the continuation of the manufactory with its worldwide outstanding quality. Larissa Fleischer became Chief Financial Officer, previously being the head of controlling at Porsche in the areas of digitalization and the development of new business models. Lastly, Emilio Scervo is named Chief Technology Officer, having held the same title before at Rimac Automobili.

Rimac Automobili and Bugatti Automobiles will each continue to operate as separate brands and manufacturers, retaining their individual production facilities respectively, as well as the distribution channels. Rimac Technology will continue to innovate, developing vehicle systems and technologies for many global OEMs.

Commenting on the first day of Bugatti Rimac operations, CEO Mate Rimac says, “I am honored to be leading this new fusion of automotive minds and begin what will no doubt be a successful, revolutionary and exciting new chapter for everyone involved. I am also extremely curious to oversee the profound impact Bugatti Rimac will have on the industry, and I look forward to developing innovative new hypercars and technologies.”

He also claims that “[it’s] difficult to find a better match than Rimac and Bugatti. What each party brings to the table in terms of technical expertise, know-how and automotive history makes for an electrifying recipe. Rimac’s fast-paced operations and electrification skills are the perfect complement to Bugatti’s exceptional heritage and craftsmanship. Stay tuned for some truly extraordinary projects in the future.”

“I am convinced that we have found the right mix of experience and know-how, innovative strength and team spirit for the management,” says Lutz Meschke, Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board and member of the board for Finance and IT at Porsche AG. “That’s why I’m very optimistic and because the project is very close to my heart, I will continue to accompany it closely and passionately in the future.”

Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Board of Management at Porsche, named this merger as “the perfect solution” for everyone involved, “Together, we are creating a high-performance automotive company. We have succeeded in positioning the traditional Bugatti brand with its charisma for the future in a way that creates value. Bugatti embodies fascination and passion, and Rimac has great innovative strength and tech expertise.”

ROLLS-ROYCE GHOST

By Cassandra Yany × Vaughn Lowery

As of late, 360 was able to spend some time with the newly reimagined Rolls-Royce Ghost at the illustrious Fairmont in Austin. Prior to our arrival, the staff and media representatives all tested negative for COVID-19.

Our room at the Fairmont was spacious and we had a gorgeous view of the city. The hotel was filled with modern art and had a number of amenities available for our enjoyment, including an outdoor pool which was fitted with chaise lounges alongside large cabanas which illuminated at night. The hotel compliments Austin’s identity as a city on the rise, and the Rolls Royce New Ghost is similarly ascendant. Both have been reimagined for an elevated, excellent future. Full of innovation and prosperity.
During this event, we were ecstatic to be in the presence of friends, colleagues and advanced automotive architecture, and to be doing so safely. It was gratifying to come together and experience the Ghost’s artistry during this prolonged time of uncertainty.

Design

The Rolls Royce New Ghost was designed with a client-centered approach and with technological advancements to drive with ease. It has been termed “future-focused with a minimal aesthetic.” CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös describes this model as “the most technologically advanced Rolls-Royce yet.” It is offered in a variety of colors including Arctic White, Salamanca Blue, Tempest Gray and Gunmetal Gray. 360 had the experience driving Artic White, an electrifying yet brilliant shade certain to capture the attention of all.

360 Magazine President, Vaughn Lowery, said, “This vehicle is for an obsessive perfectionist, it’s a driver’s car – ergonomically fabricated for those who enjoy to drive or be driven.”

A team of specialists, engineers and craftsmen researched Ghost clients’ interests, opinions and taste patterns to meet drivers’ preferences. The style of the Ghost was created using the ‘Post Opulence’ philosophy, which designer Henry Cloke said is “about simplicity. [It’s] about something that doesn’t shout at you, but it whispers.”

Starting in the front, the bonnet has been lowered and tested for aerodynamics, which gives it a new look. The Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament can be lowered or raised using controls from the driver’s seat, perfect for that personalized touch. The New Ghost’s dashboard is lighter than that of the first model, giving the vehicle an overall more spacious feeling. It features hundreds of illuminated lights that resemble a constellation surrounding the Ghost nameplate, lighting up an evening like stars do a night sky.

The interior contains open-pore wood accents, which create a relaxing and serene experience. The headliner is adorned with celestial fiber optic lights, which can be dimmed or brightened from the driver and passenger seats. Occasionally, you might catch a streak of light that mimics a meteor. It is truly a one of a kind visual experience.

The trunk is power-operated, completely carpeted (even under the lid) and provides ample space to store any and all belongings.

Technology

The 2021 Ghost is a new and improved style of its 2010 predecessor. Engineers combined dynamic highlights from the portfolios of numerous types of cars into this edition. It was formulated to remove as much energy transfer as possible from the road into the body with the goal of creating a smooth ride.

The Ghost was built with sound absorbing materials which reduced the level of noise inside. Touch enabled media screens fold in and out automatically from behind the driver’s and passenger’s seats, providing entertainment for those sitting in the back. Wooden trays emerge as well, ones that can be used with or without screens.

A bespoke audio design allows passengers to use dials on the rear doors to control the stereo volume to their preference. Beyond this, the back seats have headrest pillows and individual controls that allow you to move forward or backward, and design the back of the seat to your desired level of comfort. There is also a refrigerator located behind the center console in the rear seats, perfect for storing beverages on the go and the definition of opulence behind the wheel.

The inclusion of USB-C ports is another phenomenal addition, as well as the wireless charger in the arm rest. Though there is no AI system such as Amazon’s Alexa or Apple’s Siri, the tech was on-demand and had a hands-free bluetooth function, a wireless hotspot, and Rolls-Royce Assist at your beck and call. Rolls-Royce Assist connects to an emergency services call center if necessary. These are the standard technical features for the New Ghost, but each Rolls Royce can be configured to its unique driver to make it “a motor car that is yours, and yours alone.”

Performance

The New Ghost’s all-wheel drive and all-wheel steering makes driving easy, regardless of road conditions. The car is planted firmly to the ground and corners very well. It was built on Rolls-Royce aluminum spaceframe architecture, which has been adapted to make way for advancements. The steering is much stiffer and more precise than that of the first Ghost, and the braking is more powerful.

The Planar system increases agility through the Wishbone Damper unit above the front suspension assembly, which creates a secure and effortless ride; the Flagbearer system, which uses cameras to read the road and prepare the suspension system for any upcoming changes in the road surface; and the Satellite Aided Transmission, which uses GPS data to pre-select the optimum gear for approaching corners.

Furthermore, the New Ghost is equipped with a 6.75-litre, twin-turbo V12 engine. The doors open and close electrically, which made for an easy entrance and exit. Engineering Lead Jonathan Simms, said the team “pushed [their] architecture even further and created a car even more dynamic, even more luxurious and, most of all, even more effortlessly usable.”

Additional Features

The iconic Rolls-Royce logo on the wheels is weighted so that it is always facing upright. Also, the key color is customized to match the accents of the car, a note that will be appreciated by any driver looking for a personal touch. Other notes in the interior include the inside of the doors being completely leather and having an embossment of the Spirit of Ecstasy. A button on the rear doors allows passengers to shut them automatically from the inside, and a tap of the door handle will close them from the outside. There is also a hidden umbrella that pops out from the rear doors when needed.

With so many refined and client-centered designs, it is no wonder celebrities like Beyoncé and Floyd Mayweather have strong connections to the moniker. Beyoncé has her own 1959 Silver Cloud Rolls Royce convertible. In her most recent project, Black Is King — the musical film available on Disney+ for her 2019 album “The Lion King: The Gift” — the artist sits atop the hood of a cheetah print Rolls Royce to match the catsuit she is wearing in the scene. The boxing legend similarly showed off his automobile collection earlier this year, which includes at least six Rolls Royce’s. The Rolls-Royce is undoubtedly the most iconic brand in pop culture, including being the most mentioned brand in top-charting songs. The Ghost edition is particularly bold amongst Rolls-Royce’s many stars, and anyone seeking to solidify their luxurious lifestyle need look no further for their ride.

Experiencing this sophisticated and sleek model awoken all of our senses during this challenging time of introspection. The presence of beauty and craftsmanship gave us a feeling of hope as well as pride. Rolls-Royce has long set the bar on lavish vehicles, and the 2021 edition of the Rolls Royce Ghost is no exception. For those interested in a slice of the high life, the Ghost is the very definition of it.

LEXUS GS F

“The Lexus GS F is undeniably one of the most iconic vehicles of the brand’s history! Like a reserved bottle of wine, it ages well.” – 360 MAGAZINE

By Anthony Sovinsky × Vaughn Lowery

The ‘F’ marquee represents the high performance division of vehicles engineered by Lexus. The 2019 Lexus GS F has earned its right through rigorous testing to bear the weight of the ‘F’ stamp of approval. It’s graceful design and superior performance are on par with the BMW M Models and Mercedes-AMG line.

Design

The GS F is only in its third season, yet it’s overall traits are retro while still embodying Lexus’s luxurious appeal. The side profiles are simple – no excess vents or useless lines. At the front, there’s a gradual growth in aggressiveness which begins with fender cut-outs. The spindle grille is accompanied by two massive air ducts which lie beneath each Triple Beam LED headlamps. It has been masterfully carved to enhance aerodynamics with a 0.33 drag coefficient. The buttocks is the defining attribute on this sports sedan – clearly this car can deep squat. Reminiscent of its predecessors, however, this model has chrome quad exhaust pipes (diagonally stacked upon one another).

Our test model came well-equipped with the 10th Anniversary Package for an additional $5000 USD. It has several unique style upgrades inside and out. Only 100 units were produced in the United States. Exterior refinements include a matte Nebula Gray paint and 19” contrasting BBS 16-spoke wheels. Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires come standard along side of painted blue Brembo calipers and ‘F’ logo puddle lights.

Up front are a 16-way power adjustable driver and a 5-way adjustable passenger ‘F’ performance race-inspired seats. They encase passengers comfortably and firmly. An ‘F’ Sport steering wheel with racing ergonomics elegantly compliment the cabin. There’s electric blue carbon fiber along the door panels and dash coupled with alcantara door trim and armrest. Futhermore, there’s a F 10th Anniversary Limited medallion affixed just right above the blue shift knob.

Performance

Unlike its competition, commonly turbocharging and supercharging their vehicles to boast extra power, Lexus decided to implant a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 in the GS. It outputs 467 hp and 389 lb-ft of torque. Although it’s not outpowering it’s German counterparts, it offers a nostalgic feel with balanced performance and predictability. Its force is distributed through an 8-speed automatic transmission that is best experienced in SportS+ mode. One should take advantage of the paddle shifters and row the gears through their more spirited ranges, 4800 RPM and above.

This car exemplifies it’s athletic prowess on roads which test it’s balance. And, for those of us who don’t have access to a track, windy roads will serve. We drove through LA’s Mulholland Drive to PCH for a Sunday morning jaunt to Carr Winery in Santa Barbara for a tasting. Much to our surprise, the husky 4-door held its ground. The tires stuck around corners with great tenacity and body roll was almost absent. Moreover, the ventilated disc brakes with high friction pads were of great help in approaching turns. In gain, F Sport suspension with Ilachs-sourced shock absorbers kept the ride firm with little rebound in both Track and SLALOM modes.

Safety

Plenty of features are included to keep drivers as well as passengers safe and sound. Essential characteristics that came in handy are the following: smart stop technology, blind spot monitor with cross traffic alert, all-speed dynamic radar cruise control (for long drives), lane departure alert with steering wheel assist and lane keep assist (are great for driver fatigue). Lastly, Lexus Enform offers assistance if the vehicle is involved in accident or stolen. You can also communicate with an actual representative to send directions straight to the car while in motion. Finally, a car concierge for a sports sedan that confortably seats four.

Technology

As much as we enjoyed listening to the sweet serenade of the exhaust, the audio system is just as satisfying. Our version came with a 17-speaker Mark Levinson premium sound system, with 835 watts of power ($1380 USD). It’s unquestionably one of the most powerful units its segment. In addition, there’s a 12.3-inch infotainment display that can be surfed with an armrest remote. To date, Apple CarPlay or Android Auto are unavailable. However, music can be played from your phone while connected to Bluetooth and/or plugged into the USB port. And, for $900 you can opt for an in color heads-up display (HUD) that offers metrics such as the speed limit, current MPH/KMH and tachometer.

Conclusion

In short, the standard 2019 Lexus GS F is priced at $84,350 and the 10th Anniversary Edition retails around $93,250. For far less than its challengers, the GS F is an exotic with tons of intuitive amenities. A true head-turner and automotive beast.

Most Expensive States For Speeding

The United States is a vast nation connected by the automobile. But while our car culture helps connect the far reaches of the country to each other, it also comes with some clear limitations. Like how fast you can travel whilst zipping from the Grand Canyon to the Great Smoky Mountains on your cross-country road trip. And few things can ruin a vacation quite like getting slapped with a speeding ticket.

However, depending on where you get it, a speeding ticket can range from a minor annoyance to a significant financial burden. A $20 fine isn’t always a huge burden to bear, but relatively few Americans can afford to fit an unexpected fee of $300 into their normal budget. So, before you set out on your great American road trip, it might be worth learning how much a ticket would cost you in the states along your route.

To determine this, GOBankingRates delved into the cost of a speeding ticket in each state using data from GoCompare.com’s Harsher Penalties 2018 study. The GOBankingRates study then compared the cost of a ticket for traveling 13 mph over the posted speed limit for a first-time offender and assuming no additional fees established a ranking of the expected cost by state.
